Abstract:According to Kerchoff's principle, the secrecy of a cryptosystem must reside entirely on the secret keys. In this paper, a new cryptosystem is presented and one of its secret keys is generated by a chaotic map, we call it chaotic key. Some experimental results are given and the security of our cryptosystem is discussed.

Abstract:The chaotic output-cipher feedback mode(OCFM) stream cipher was developed to resist attacks based on chaotic orbits.The chaotic signals were generated based on iterating the piecewise linear chaotic map(PLCM) with a segment number parameter(SNP).Odd bits were used to produce the key streams.After being incorporated,the even bits and ciphers were fed back as the next state of the key stream generator.When the chaotic systems were realized with finite precision,the perturbation approach was applied to remedy the finite precision effect,and the perturbation signal was m-sequence.Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the OCFM cipher is secure and easy to be realized by hardware or software,and that the encryption speed can be adjusted to meet the application requirement at the algorithm level.

Abstract:In this paper,the authors present their opinion on different understandings related to the definitions and basic properties of chaos,as well as of the security of chaotic cryptosystems.The method of producing chaotic signals is explored and chaotic encryption is compared with conventional encryption.A novel scheme of cascading chaotic and conventional encryption stages is proposed.The new scheme makes use of the unpredictability of chaotic systems.It is shown that the combination of chaotic encryption and conventional encryption is important in raising the security of cryptosystems.

Abstract:In this paper, a new method for image encryption based on chaotic system is proposed. An unpredictable chaotic sequence is generated by Logistic-map, and its characteristics of pseudo-random and sensitiveness to the initial condition helps to construct transformation matrix for image encryption. And two images are used together to encrypt each other in the proposed method for the sake of higher security. An example is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:The key in strong randomness is needed in image encryption.The key generation algorithm based on chaotic cryptography has a large key space,and however,not all keys in the space are of strong randomness.This paper presents a chaotic image cryptography based on exhaustive entropy.The chaotic signal is generated by Lorenz system,and with binary quantization in group,the only one group with larger entropy is selected for image encryption and decryption processing.Meanwhile,the analysis on encrypted image security shows that the proposed image encryption scheme is of higher robustness than the traditional chaotic image encryption scheme.

Abstract:The security is a significant topic in transmission and management of pictures, while encryption is an effective method for protecting the secret images. In recent years, the chaotic/hyperchaotic system has been thoroughly developed in image encryption area due to its high randomness. In this chapter, the optical cryptosystems based on chaotic/hyperchaotic system are expressed in detail. We starts with the brief introduction of various chaotic/hyperchaotic systems, then several optical cryptosystems based on the chaotic/hyperchaotic map are expressed in detail. Some experiments are made to verify the security and robustness of these schemes.

Abstract:Because low-dimensional chaotic precision degradation has seriously affected the security of encryption, compound chaotic function is designed. It is based on two new one-dimensional chaotic functions. By the definition of Devaney chaotic, the properties of compound chaotic functions are rigidly proved. Based on the compound chaotic function and linear feedback shift register (LFSR), a new pseudo-random sequence generator is designed to generate a more random sequence and expand the key space. The properties of compound chaotic functions and LFSR are also established. In the scheme, a dynamic block division of the 3D baker and dynamical perturbation are illustrated using the compound chaotic map to derive the confusion image. The new pseudo-random sequence generator expands the key space and improves the security of image encryption scheme. The results of entropy analysis, difference analysis, weak-key analysis, statistical analysis, cipher random analysis, and cipher sensitivity analysis show that the encryption scheme has a better security. Compared with traditional encryption scheme and one-dimensional logistic chaotic map, the new image encryption scheme has a better performance in speed, complexity, and security. This paper illustrates how to solve the problem of short periods and low precision of one-dimensional chaotic function by perturbation and LFSR together.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel hybrid scheme for chaotic image encryption by means of both public-key cryptosystem and symmetric cryptosystem. In the public-key cryptosystem, the hash value of the plain image can be securely transmitted through a public channel by utilizing elliptic curve for generating public and private keys, embedding hash value, encrypting and decrypting embedded data, and finally restoring hash value in the receiver. Based on a 8-dimensional discrete-time hyper-chaotic system, a symmetric encryption method associated with the hash value of plaintext is then implemented, which achieves several mutually independent encryption operations, including position sequence and row-column cyclic shift for permutation, modulus and exclusive OR operations for diffusion. In particular, because of its passing NIST and TestU01 for random statistical properties, the proposed 8-dimensional discrete-time hyper-chaotic system can also be used to construct a higher-performance S-Box, acting as another crucial component in the chaotic image cryptosystem, so that its security can be further enhanced. Theoretical analysis and numerical experiments confirm the feasibility of the method.

Abstract:The idea of combining synchronous chaotic systems with classic cryptography has been presented. A chaotic system sends a driving signal to two chaotic slave systems which have no influence on the generating of the driving signal. These two slave systems are synchronized and used to generate secret keys. The secret keys can be considered as pseudorandom. They are used only once and are not shorter than the message length, In this way, the idea of chaotic cryptography has been demonstrated. Abstract:Chaotic systems are widely used in image encryption due to their sensitivity to initial values, ergodicity, and other properties; many image encryption algorithms based on chaotic systems have been studied in the past few years. To obtain a more secure encryption algorithm, this work firstly proposes a new two-dimensional discrete hyperchaotic map, which has a wider continuous chaotic interval, larger Lyapunov exponents and passed all NIST and part of TestU01 tests. Then, we apply the proposed map to generate S-boxes and combine them in pairs; finally, twelve S-boxes are obtained, and the elements of the plaintext image are grouped, each group of pixels is summed, and modular operations are used to specify specific S-boxes. Next, each set of elements is bitwise XOR with the corresponding S-box. Finally, the cipher image is obtained by scrambling using chaotic signal. Experiments show that compared with some other encryption algorithms, the proposed S-box-based encryption method has higher security, and it resists to common attacks.

Abstract:This paper proposes a new four-dimensional hyperchaotic map based on the Rabinovich system to realize chaotic encryption in higher dimension and improve the security. The chaotic sequences generated by Runge-Kutta method are combined with the chaotic sequences generated by an exponential chaos map to generate key sequences. The key sequences are used for image encryption. The security test results indicate that the new hyperchaotic system has high security and complexity. The comparison between the new hyperchaotic system and the several low-dimensional chaotic systems shows that the proposed system performs more efficiently.

Abstract:Since 1989, many contributions have been devoted to the methods of using chaos to construct digital ciphers. Although some chaotic ciphers have been known insecure and several defects have been found, a large number of chaotic ciphers still remain secure till now. Furthermore, in the past few years, some novel chaotic ciphers have been proposed, which avoid some weaknesses in previous chaotic ciphers and seem to have stronger cryptographic properties. In this paper, we first review the progress of the digital chaotic ciphers nowadays from 1989 till now (2002), and then discuss some problems in the general design of digital chaotic ciphers and possible solutions. Some suggestions are given on the future directions in chaotic cryptography. We believe that the research on chaotic cryptography will be helpful to benefit the conventional cryptology and open a broader road to more perfect ciphers.

Abstract:Recently S. Papadimitriou et al. have proposed a new probabilistic encryption scheme based on chaotic systems. In this letter, we point out some problems with Papadimitriou et al.'s chaotic cryptosystem: (1) the size of the ciphertext and the plaintext cannot simultaneously ensure practical implementation and high security; (2) the estimated number of all possible virtual states is wrong; (3) the practical security to exhaustive attack is overestimated; (4) the fast encryption speed is dependent on the first defect; (5) problems about the dynamical degradation of digital chaotic systems; (6) no explicit indications are given to explain how to construct the virtual state space with the 2d virtual attractors, the 2e virtual states and the permutation matrix P. The detailed analyses and discussions on the above problems show that the proposed chaotic cipher is insecure and unpractical. Also, we give our suggestions on the design of general digital chaotic ciphers, and give some open topics in this area.

Abstract:Chaotic systems are applicable to image cryptography with their inherent properties. Unfortunately, in numerous existing chaos-based image cryptography, chaotic systems face the problems of uneven chaotic trajectories and narrow chaotic regions, which leads to hidden risks in the encryption approach. To solve these problems, a novel two-dimensional Sine-Arcsin-Cos-Arcsin (2D-SACA) chaotic mo-del is constructed, which can design chaotic systems according to users' own needs, and then we propose an image encryption approach applying the designed chaotic systems. Compared with the existing chaotic systems in image cryptography, the designed chaotic systems have better randomness, sensitivity, wide chaotic regions and more uniform trajectory distribution. The major contribution of this scheme is to design a 2D-SACA chaotic model, which can generate different superior chaotic systems, and propose an image encryption approach that enables images of different dimensions and categories to be encrypted. Simulation analysis illustrates that this approach has superior performance, high efficiency, strong key sensitivity, and wide key space, thanks to the sensitivity of designed chaotic systems and the extensive chaotic region, which can prevent various attacks. And even with noise interference and data loss, the original image can be successfully restored.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a secret key stream generating algorithm based on discrete chaotic systems. Using a simple chaotic system and another chaotic system based on linear system with a piecewise linear state feedback, we put the two sequences through threshold function and XOR operation. The result we get is an unpredictable pseudo-random sequence. The analysis and simulation results indicate that the algorithm can effectively resist the predictive attack and statistic analysis. This algorithm can meet the request for secret key stream in cryptography. So, it can be used for generating secret key stream in stream cipher.

Abstract:Zhou et al. have proposed a chaotic encryption scheme, which is based on a kind of computerized piecewise linear chaotic map (PWLCM) realized in finite computing precision. In this paper, we point out that Zhou's encryption scheme is not secure enough from strict cryptographic viewpoint. The reason lies in the dynamical degradation of the computerized piecewise linear chaotic map employed by Zhou et al. The dynamical degradation of the computerized chaos induces many weak keys to cause large information leaking of the plaintext. In addition, we also discuss three simple countermeasures to enhance the security of Zhou's cryptosystem, but none of them can essentially enhance the security.

Abstract:The paper proposed a new encryption algorithm of one dimension chaotic map, which based on parameter randomly changing. Through the randomly changing of parameter and iteration times, the complicated degree of chaotic sequences and cryptographic specific property are strengthened, and improved algorithm has n2 times long cycle compared to original function. Theory analysis to the mapping is well-distributed, and self-correlation and mutual -correlation is also good property. Through encryption test, it shows that new algorithm has high security , is realized easily ,and the encryption speed is very fast.

Abstract:In this note, we apply the sub-sampling idea to the design of the chaotic secure communication system and analyze the Lorenz system and a kind of hyper chaotic system. The result obtained indicates that the security of the cryptosystem is not only determined by the dimension, but also related with the sampling interval. Then, we verify these two systems using the VWK (Volterra-Wiener-Korengerg) nonlinear test and surrogate data test methods.
