Abstract:Three new eremophilane sesquiterpenes were isolated from the MeOH extract of the roots of Senecio nemorensis. Their structures were identified as 8 alpha-hydroxy-6 ss-(isobutanoyloxy)-1-oxoeremophila-7(11).9-dieno-12.8 ss-lactone (1), 6 ss,8 ss-dimethoxy-1-oxoeremophila-7(11),9-dieno-12,8 alpha-lactone (2) and 10 alpha-hydroxy-6 ss-(isobutanoyloxy)-1-oxocremophila-7(11),8-dieno-12,8-lactone (3), respectively, based on spectroscopic data, including IR. EI-MS, HR-ESI-MS, and 1D- and 2D-NMR data.

Its structure was elucidated as 6-angeloyloxy-eremophila-1(10),7(11)-diene-12,8-lactone on the basis of spectroscopic analysis, including IR, electron ionisation mass spectrometry, high-resolution electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy.

Abstract:Three new highly oxygenated eremophilane-type sesquiterpenes, 1 beta 10 beta(8,12)-diepoxy-7 beta,11 beta-dihydroxy-8 beta,12 alpha-dimethoxyeremophilane (1), 11 alpha H-12,8 beta-epoxy-7 beta-hydroxy-8 alpha-methoxyeremophil-11 alpha H-12,8 beta-olide (2), and 6 beta-isobutyryloxy-8 alpha-hydroxy-l-oxoeremophil-7(11),9-dien-12,8 beta-olide (3), together with nine known compounds (4-12) were isolated from the roots and aerial parts of Senecio nemorensis L. (Compositae). Structures of compounds 1-3 were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidence including IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR techniques and were unequivocally confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments. The antimicrobial activity of the isolated compounds 1 3 and 8-12 was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans.

Abstract:From the whole plant of Senecio tsoongianus, two pairs of epimers, tsoongianolides A (1) and B (2), and tsoongianolides C (3) and D (4), and two new sesquiterpene lactones, tsoongianolides E (5) and F (6), all of which possess the eremophilane skeleton, were isolated. Two known eremophilane dimers (7) and (8) were also obtained from this species. Their absolute structures were elucidated by 1D- and 2D-NMR techniques and by X-ray diffraction studies, along with chemical evidence.

Abstract:Four new eremophilanoid sesquiterpenes were isolated from Senecio oldhamianus. On the basis of spectroscopic and X-ray diffraction analysis, their structures were elucidated as: 7β, 11-epoxy-9α, 10α-epoxy-8-oxoeremophilane (1), 8,11-dioxol-6-en-9α, 10α-epoxy-8β-hydroxyeremophilane (2) , 7(11)-en-9α, 10α-epoxy-8-oxoeremophilane (3), 6-en-9α, 10α-epoxy-11-hydroxy-8-oxoeremophilane (4). The experiment of anticancer activity reveals that compound 1 promoted, while compound 2 and 3 inhibited , the growth of human hepatoma cells (SMMC-7721) and human ovarioncus cells (HO-8910).

Abstract:The title eremophilenolide, C(15)H(22)O(3), is a natural compound isolated from Senecio laetus Edgew. The two cis-fused six-membered rings have chair confomations and the five-membered ring has a planar envelope conformation [maximum deviation = 0.010 (1) Å]. The β-hy-droxy group participates in inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding, forming mol-ecular chains along the a axis.

Abstract:A new furanoeremophilanen derivative, 6-oxo-9 alpha-angloyloxy-10 beta H-furanoeremophilane (1) was isolated from the aerial parts of Senecio dianthus, together with a known compound, spiroeuryolide 2. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including HR-ESI-MS, ID and 2D NMR experiments. Compound 2 was isolated from the plant for the first time. Complete H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectral assignments of 2 were leading to revision of some C-13 NMR assignments previously made for this compound.

Abstract:One known eremophilanolide, 3beta-angeloyloxy-8beta,10beta-dihydroxy-6beta-methoxyeremophilenolide (1) and seven new eremophiane sesquiterpenes, 3beta-angeloyloxy-6beta-ethoxy-8beta,10beta-dihydroxyeremophilenolide (2), 30,6beta-diangeloyloxy-10alpha-hydroxy-8alpha-methoxyeremophilenolide, 6beta-angeloyloxy-8beta,10beta-dihydroxy-3-oxo-eremophilenolide, 6beta,8beta,10beta-trihydroxy-3-oxo-eremophilenolide, 3beta-angeloyloxy-6beta,10beta-dihydroxy-eremophila-7(11),8(9)-dien-8,12-olide (6), 3beta-angeloyloxy-10beta-hydroxy-6beta-methoxy-eremophila-7(11),8(9)-dien-8,12-olide, 3beta-angeloyloxy-8-oxo-eremophila-6.9-dien-12-oic acid ethyl ester, were isolated from the roots of Cacalia ainsliaeflora. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Compounds 1, 2 and 6 were assayed against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. No positive activities were observed.

Abstract:Two new eremophilane sesquiterpene lactones, 1β-angeloyloxy-6β, 10β-dihydroxy-8β-methoxyeremophila-7(11)en-8α,12-olide and 1β-angeloyloxy-6β,10α-dihydroxy-8α-methoxyeremophila-7(11)en-8β,12-olide were isolated from the extract of the whole plant of Ligularia myriocephala Ling. Their structures and stereochemistry were elucidated by various spectroscopic methods including intensive 2D-NMR techniques (COSY, gHMQC, gHMBC and 1H-1H NOESY) and HR-ESIMS.

Abstract:A new eremophilane derivative, 4,5,11-trimethyl-9( 10), 7 ( 11) -eremophiladien-8-keto-12-carboxylic acid-beta-D-glucopyranoside( which named dianthuside A) 1 and four known compounds, 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-flavonone-3-0-beta-D-glucoside (2), quercetin-3-0-beta-D-glucoside(3) ,hyperin(4) and rutin(5) have been isolated from the aerial part of Senecio dianthus. Their structures were elucidated by physicochemical properties and spectroscopic data analysis. Compounds 2, 4 and 5 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Two new furanoeremophilanes, 1α, 6α-epoxy-9-oxo-10β-hydroxyl-furanoeremophilane (1), and 9-oxo-1α, 6β, 10β-trihydroxy-furanoeremophilane (2) were isolated from Senecio nemorensis. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. This is the first report of the isolation of the C1–C6 oxygen bridge of furanoeremophilane. Their cytotoxic effects on BEL7402 and NF-KB cell lines were tested.
