Abstract:In this paper, we prove a general theta function identity, which contains the quintuple product identity and Winquist’s identity and many other important results of elliptic theta functions as special cases. This identity can also be used to derive some important identities for the Appell theta functions. A new representation for the generating function for sums of three squares is given.

Abstract:Page 27 of Ramanujan's Lost Notebook contains a beautiful identity which not only gives, as a special case, a famous modular relation between the Rogers-Ramanujan functions $G(q)$ and $H(q)$ but also a relation between two fifth order mock theta functions and $G(q)$ and $H(q)$. We generalize Ramanujan's relation with the help of a parameter $s$ to get an infinite family of such identities. Our result shows that a theta function can always be ``dissected'' as a finite sum of products of generalized Rogers-Ramanujan functions. Several well-known results are shown to be consequences of our theorem, for example, a generalization of the Jacobi triple product identity and Andrews' relation between two of his generalized third order mock theta functions. We give enough evidence, through asymptotic analysis as well as by other means, to show that the identities we get from our main result for $s>2$ transcend the modular world and hence look difficult to be written in the form of a modular relation. Using asymptotic analysis, we also offer a clinching evidence that explains how Ramanujan may have arrived at his generalized modular relation.

Abstract:Ramanujan's last letter to Hardy introduced the world to mock theta functions, and the mock theta function identities found in Ramanujan's lost notebook added to their intriguing nature. For example, we find the four tenth-order mock theta functions and their six identities. The six identities themselves are of a spectacular nature and were first proved by Choi. Indeed, in their fifth and final volume on Ramanujan's lost notebook, Andrews and Berndt proclaimed about one of the six identities “It is inconceivable that an identity such as ϕ 10 ( q ) − q − 1 ψ 10 ( − q 4 ) + q − 2 χ 10 ( q 8 ) = J ‾ 1 , 2 j ( − q 2 ; − q 10 ) J 2 , 8 could be stumbled upon by a mindless search algorithm without any overarching theoretical insight.” Recently, the first author discovered and proved three new tenth-order like identities but for sixth-order mock theta functions. Building on this recent discovery, we develop a long sought after overarching theoretical insight hinted at by Andrews and Berndt by finding several general families of tenth-order like identities for Appell functions, which are the building blocks of Ramanujan's mock theta functions. We underscore how this adds to the mystery of the purported missing pages of Ramanujan's lost notebook.

Abstract:This paper explains the fundamentality of residue theorem in complex analysis integration termed contour integral. It also illustrates the importance of this theorem, followed by applying it in both mathematics and other fields where several typical examples coming from different fields are chosen. The paper introduces some basic definitions and theorems to support and finally prove residue theorem. Then two simple applications of residue theorem are presented. One is a contour integral of a fractional function with one singularity inside the contour. It can be solved by using partial fraction technique, then directly finding the residue at the singularity, and finally applying residue theorem to calculate for the result. The other one is a contour integral of a reciprocal of sine function with one singularity inside. This problem can be solved by finding the Laurent series of the integrand, thus finding the residue needed. However, the residue is the coefficient of negative-one-degree term of the singularity, and the value of the integral can be achieved by substituting the residue into the formula of the residue theorem.

Abstract:A proof of several identities of Ramanujan involving theta functions of level $7$ is given which uses a specific modular function for $\Gamma_1(7)$ and Klein's projective representation of $PSL(2,7)$ into $PSL(3, \mathbb{C})$. Four identities of Berndt and Zhang are derived as algebraic corollaries of the main proof.

Abstract:Assuming the Generalised Riemann Hypothesis, we prove a sharp upper bound on moments of shifted Dirichlet L‐functions. We use this to obtain conditional upper bounds on high moments of theta functions. Both of these results strengthen theorems of Munsch, who proved almost sharp upper bounds for these quantities. The main new ingredient of our proof comes from a paper of Harper, who showed the related result ∫0T|ζ(1/2+it)|2k≪kT(logT)k2 for all k⩾0 under the Riemann Hypothesis. Finally, we obtain a sharp conditional upper bound on high moments of character sums of arbitrary length.

Abstract:This paper presents an approach to summing a few families of infinite series involving hyperbolic functions, some of which were first studied by Ramanujan. The key idea is based on their contour integral representations and residue computations with the help of some well-known results of Eisenstein series given by Ramanujan, Berndt, et al. As our main results, several series involving hyperbolic functions are evaluated and expressed in terms of z=F12(1/2,1/2;1;x) and z′=dz/dx. When a certain parameter in these series is equal to π, the series are expressed in closed forms in terms of some special values of the Gamma function. Moreover, many new illustrative examples are presented.

Abstract:Jacobi's theta relations among quartic products of theta functions are generalized to those of arbitrary $n$ products. Igusa's procedure of derivation is extended to prove such general theta relations, from which we obtain general addition formulas and theta constants identities. To complete the proof, the concept of {\it cycle number $\lambda$} is essential. The case of $n=3$ is discussed and examined explicitly.

Abstract:In a recent paper Vinay, Shweta, and Harshitha use Ramanujan's theta functions to prove several trigonometric equalities. Elementary proofs for some of these equalities were given by the author and Zeilberger, then for all but one by Berndt, Kim, and Zaharescu. The remaining equality was proved in the same paper of Berndt, Kim, and Zaharescu in a non-totally elementary way, in that it uses a result of Gauss in cyclotomy: here we give an elementary proof of the same equality. Also we show how to use automated tools to discover and prove some generalizations.

Several new product identities in relation to two-variable Rogers-Ramanujan type sums and mock theta functions

Abstract:Product identities in two variables $x, q$ expand infinite products as infinite sums, which are linear combinations of theta functions; famous examples include Jacobi's triple product identity, Watson's quintuple identity, and Hirschhorn's septuple identity. We view these series expansions as representations in canonical bases of certain vector spaces of quasiperiodic meromorphic functions (related to sections of line and vector bundles), and find new identities for two nonuple products, an undecuple product, and several two-variable Rogers-Ramanujan type sums. Our main theorem explains a correspondence between the septuple product identity and the two original Rogers-Ramanujan identities, involving two-variable analogues of fifth-order mock theta functions. We also prove a similar correspondence between an octuple product identity of Ewell and two simpler variations of the Rogers-Ramanujan identities, which is related to third-order mock theta functions, and conjecture other occurrences of this phenomenon. As applications, we specialize our results to obtain identities for quotients of generalized Dedekind eta functions and mock theta functions.

Abstract:The Cauchy’s residue theorem is one of the most important theorems in complex analysis at all times, and it is demonstrated that using the residue theorem is an easier and faster method to calculate some types of real improper integrals when the targeted integrals are hard or even impossible to deal with by conventional approaches. This paper considers several types of integrals including trigonometric integrals and integrals involving logarithmic function and power function. The general methods for calculating these integrals are presented and typical examples to illustrate how to use the methods are shown. The types of integrals in the paper are useful in many fields and have applications in the engineering and scientific research. In complex analysis, the residue theorem is a powerful tool for calculating the path integrals of analytic functions along closed curves, and can also be used to calculate the integrals of real functions.

Abstract:Complex analysis is a branch of mathematics that studies the properties and behaviors of functions of complex variables, where a complex variable is a quantity that has both a real part and an imaginary part. Complex analysis is important in many areas of science, including physics, engineering, and computer science. The importance of complex analysis lies in its ability to solve problems that are difficult or impossible to solve using only real variables alone. For example, because of the complicated integrals involved, many problems in fluid mechanics, electromagnetism, and quantum mechanics can be solved using complex analysis. This paper introduces an important theorem in complex analysis, which is the residue theorem. By applying the residual theorem, the trigonometric function integral and the polynomial integral exponential function integral are calculated, which simplifies the complexity and difficulty. With the help of examples, the application of the residue theorem is demonstrated. This paper contributes to extending the idea of integral calculation and facilitates the efficient solution of integral calculations in practical problems.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain some novel identities involving trigonometric functions. Let n be any positive odd integer. We mainly show that Sigma(n-1)(r=0) 1/1 + sin 2 pi x+r/n + cos 2 pi x+r/n = (-1)(n-1)/2n 1 + (-1)(n-1)/2 sin 2px + cos 2px for any complex number with x + 1/2, x + (-1)((n-1)/2)/4 is not an element of Z, and Sigma(n-1)(j,k=0) 1/sin 2 pi x+j/n + sin 2 pi y+k/n = (-1)((n-1)/2)n(2)/sin2 pi x + sin2 pi y for all complex numbers x and y with x+y, x- y- 1/2 is not an element of Z. We also determine the values of Pi((p-1)/2)(k=1)(1 + tan pi k(2)/p) and Pi((p-1)/2)(k=1) (1 + cot pi k(2)/p) for any odd prime p. In addition, we pose several conjectures on the values of Pi((p-1)/2)(k=1)(x- e(2 pi ik2)/p) with p an odd prime and x a root of unity.

Abstract:Complex function is a function that takes complex numbers as independent and dependent variables. The theory of complex functions originated in the eighteenth century, and in nineteenth century, the new branch of complex functions dominated mathematics. The theory about complex function is called complex analysis, which is very helpful in many branches of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, number theory, analytic combinatorics, applied mathematics as well as Physics, including the branches of hydrodynamics, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and twistor theory. This paper is going to introduce an important theorem in complex analysis, and it is the residue theorem. The residue theorem can convert some integrals into integrals with complex variables, which can be solved by using Taylor series and it’s an easier method. With the explanation of those examples, the applications of using the theorem to solve functions are clearly shown. This paper is introducing several effective methods of how the residue theorem can be used in practical issues by solving integrals.
