The Cognition Analysis on the Role Expectation of and Medical Students and Nursing Students for Clinical Doctors and Nurses after Clinical Practice

Abstract:Objective To investigate and compare the role expectation of Medical and Nursing Students after clinical practice for clinical doctors and nurses,analysis main differences,and provide information to launch education about the role expectation and collaboration of physician and nurse. Methods Medical and nursing students of two degrees in Zhengzhou University who already have had full ten months' internship were investigated by using self-designed questionnaire. Results There are conflicts on the role expectation between Medical Students and Nursing Students. To the role expectation for doctors,the main difference is the cognition to"the doctor's duty"and"medical communication and collaboration",nursing students scored higher( P = 0. 000). To the role expectation for nurses,the nursing students score higher than medical students on " medical communication and collaboration",the difference has statistical significance( P = 0. 006). Conclusions It's essential to through the curriculum and clinical teaching to strengthen communication and understanding between the medical and nursing students,making the role expectations achieve balance,and build the harmonious and complementary physician-nurse relationships.
