Abstract:By means of a nested sequence of some critical pieces constructed by Kozlovski, Shen, and van Strien, and by using a covering lemma recently proved by Kahn and Lyubich, we prove that a component of the filled-in Julia set of any polynomial is a point if and only if its forward orbit contains no periodic critical components. It follows immediately that the Julia set of a polynomial is a Cantor set if and only if each critical component of the filled-in Julia set is aperiodic. This result was a conjecture raised by Branner and Hubbard in 1992.

Abstract:We outline a proof of a remarkable conjecture of Labastida-Mari{\~n}o-Ooguri-Vafa about certain new algebraic structures of quantum link invariants and the integrality of infinite family of new topological invariants. Our method is based on the cut-and-join analysis and a special rational ring characterizing the structure of the Chern-Simons partition function.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.

Abstract:As a significant variation of Ramsey numbers, the Gallai-Ramsey number $GR_k(H)$ refers to the smallest positive integer $r$ such that, by coloring the edges of $K_r$ with at most $k$ colors, there exists either a monochromatic subgraph isomorphic to $H$ or a rainbow triangle. Mao, Wang, Magnant, and Schiermeyer [Discrete Math., 2023], Song, Wei, Zhang, and Zhao [Discrete Math., 2020], and Zhao and Wei [Discrete Appl. Math., 2021] each proposed one conjecture on the Gallai-Ramsey numbers for fans, wheels, and kipases, respectively. We establish new lower bounds that disprove all three conjectures. Su and Liu [Graphs Combin., 2022] studied the Gallai-Ramsey-full property of graphs and conjectured that a graph is Ramsey-full if and only if it is Gallai-Ramsey-full. We present two classes of graphs that are Ramsey-full, but neither is Gallai-Ramsey-full.

Abstract:A very nice result of Bárány and Lehel asserts that every finite subset $X$ or $\mathbb R^d$ can be covered by $f(d)$ $X$-boxes (i.e. each box has two antipodal points in $X$). As shown by Gyárfás and Pálvőlgyi this result would follow from the following conjecture : If a tournament admits a partition of its arc set into $k$ quasi orders, then its domination number is bounded in terms of $k$. This question is in turn implied by the Erdős-Sands-Sauer-Woodrow conjecture : If the arcs of a tournament $T$ are colored with $k$ colors, there is a set $X$ of at most $g(k)$ vertices such that for every vertex $v$ of $T$, there is a monochromatic path from $X$ to $v$. We give a short proof of this statement. We moreover show that the general Sands-Sauer-Woodrow conjecture (which as a special case implies the stable marriage theorem) is valid for directed graphs with bounded stability number. This conjecture remains however open.

Abstract:Two new proofs are provided, offering two new perspectives on Godbersen's conjecture. One of the proofs utilizes Helly's theorem to provide a concise and elegant proof of the inequality in Godbersen's conjecture. The other proof utilizes the Brunn-Minkowski inequality to provide a completely new proof of the inclusion $-K\subset nK$ for convex bodies $K$ with centroid at the origin, thereby proving Godbersen's conjecture.

Abstract:Let $Q_n$ be the $n$-dimensional hypercube, and let ${\rm cr}(Q_n)$ be the \textit{crossing number} of $Q_n$. Erdős and Guy in 1973 conjectured the following equality: ${\rm cr}(Q_n)=\frac{5}{32}4^n-\lfloor\frac{n^2+1}{2}\rfloor 2^{n-2}$. In this paper, we construct a drawing of $Q_n$ with less crossings when $n>6$, which implies that for $n>6$ we have a strict inequality.

Abstract:We present a mathematical proof of a conjectural formula due to Aganagic, Dijkgraaf, Klemm, Mariño and Vafa, expressing the topological vertex as a Bogoliubov transform of the fermionic vacuum. In our proof we introduce a boson-fermionic field assignment which generalizes the well-known boson-fermion correspondence. The proof also works for the generalization to the framed topological vertex made by Deng and Zhou. As a consequence, partition functions of toric Calabi-Yau threefolds are related to tau-functions of multi-component KP hierarchy.

Abstract:A classical result of Fekete gives necessary conditions on a compact set in the complex plane so that it contains infinitely many sets of conjugate algebraic integers. We prove an effective version of Fekete's theorem in terms of a height function. As an application, we give a lower bound on the growth of the leading coefficient of certain polynomial sequences, generalizing a result by Schur. Lastly, we give an upper bound on minimal asymptotics of height over sequences of algebraic numbers.

Abstract:In this paper we resolve a conjecture of Kresch and Tamvakis. Our result is the following. Theorem: For any positive integer $D$ and any integers $i,j$ $(0\leq i,j \leq D)$, the absolute value of the following hypergeometric series is at most 1: \begin{equation*} {_4F_3} \left[ \begin{array}{c} -i, \; i+1, \; -j, \; j+1 \\ 1, \; D+2, \; -D \end{array} ; 1 \right]. \end{equation*} To prove this theorem, we use the Biedenharn-Elliott identity, the theory of Leonard pairs, and the Perron-Frobenius theorem.

Abstract:Sidorenko's conjecture states that, for all bipartite graphs $H$, quasirandom graphs contain asymptotically the minimum number of copies of $H$ taken over all graphs with the same order and edge density. While still open for graphs, the analogous statement is known to be false for hypergraphs. We show that there is some advantage in this, in that if Sidorenko's conjecture does not hold for a particular $r$-partite $r$-uniform hypergraph $H$, then it is possible to improve the standard lower bound, coming from the probabilistic deletion method, for its extremal number $\mathrm{ex}(n,H)$, the maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex $H$-free $r$-uniform hypergraph. With this application in mind, we find a range of new counterexamples to the conjecture for hypergraphs, including all linear hypergraphs containing a loose triangle and all $3$-partite $3$-uniform tight cycles.

Hypergraphs with infinitely many extremal constructions

Abstract:We give the first exact and stability results for a hypergraph Turán problem with infinitely many extremal constructions that are far from each other in edit-distance. This includes an example of triple systems with Turán density $2/9$, thus answering some questions posed by the third and fourth authors and Reiher about the feasible region of hypergraphs. Our results also provide extremal constructions whose shadow density is a transcendental number. Our novel approach is to construct certain multilinear polynomials that attain their maximum (in the standard simplex) on a line segment and then to use these polynomials to define an operation on hypergraphs that gives extremal constructions.

Abstract:The Posner-Robinson Theorem states that for any reals $Z$ and $A$ such that $Z \oplus 0' \leq_\mathrm{T} A$ and $0 <_\mathrm{T} Z$, there exists $B$ such that $A \equiv_\mathrm{T} B' \equiv_\mathrm{T} B \oplus Z \equiv_\mathrm{T} B \oplus 0'$. Consequently, any nonzero Turing degree $\operatorname{deg}_\mathrm{T}(Z)$ is a Turing jump relative to some $B$. Here we prove the hyperarithmetical analog, based on an unpublished proof of Slaman, namely that for any reals $Z$ and $A$ such that $Z \oplus \mathcal{O} \leq_\mathrm{T} A$ and $0 <_\mathrm{HYP} Z$, there exists $B$ such that $A \equiv_\mathrm{T} \mathcal{O}^B \equiv_\mathrm{T} B \oplus Z \equiv_\mathrm{T} B \oplus \mathcal{O}$. As an analogous consequence, any nonhyperarithmetical Turing degree $\operatorname{deg}_\mathrm{T}(Z)$ is a hyperjump relative to some $B$.

Abstract:Harvey Friedman's gap condition on embeddings of finite labelled trees plays an important role in combinatorics (proof of the graph minor theorem) and mathematical logic (strong independence results). In the present paper we show that the gap condition can be reconstructed from a small number of well-motivated building blocks: it arises via iterated applications of a uniform Kruskal theorem.
