Abstract:An on-line software is designed to monitor electric power network stability sections using real-time network topology. According to different power network operation modes, this software automatically changes the monitored sections and calculates their real-time values. If the sections are heavy loading or overloading, various warning messages are sent to dispatchers, helping them take necessary steps to eliminate hidden troubles and insure electric power network stability.

Abstract:Nuclear power system shows very typical nonlinear characteristics in many aspects. Sometimes the system's safety must suffer from the inconvenience which induced by the nonlinear characteristic, such as system control problem, safety analysis, correlation application range, and so on. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) as the simulation technology of human brain can deal with some inherent essences of complex system. Many researchers try to import this method into nuclear energy field. In this paper, some representative usages of ANN in nuclear field are introduced roundly. After that some existed problems are discussed and some suggestions are given.

Abstract:The implementation of artificial neural networks (ANN) as a power system stability monitoring tool is a viable option, introducing dynamic and intelligent solution to utility operators. This paper examines the performance of two nonlinear multilayer ANN models which are similar in structural topology and training emphasis but different by way of the utilization of their net or basis function. The performance of both models were compared for the estimation of stability index to gauge the stability of a power system network. Although tests were conducted in a simulated environment, loading patterns analyzed in this case study were realistically generated, and hence test results realistically accentuates the potential of ANN for practical on-line dynamic system implementation.

Abstract:Integration of large-scale renewable energy sources and increasing uncertainty has drastically changed the dynamics of power system and has consequently brought various challenges. Rapid transient stability assessment of modern power system is a vital requirement for accurate power system planning and operation. The conventional methods are unable to fulfil this requirement. Therefore, novel approaches are required in this regard. Machine leaning approaches such as artificial neural network can play a significant role in this regard. Therefore, this paper aims to review the application of artificial neural network for transient stability assessment of power systems. It is believed that this work will provide a solid foundation for researchers in the domain of machine learning applications to power system security and stability.

Abstract:In recent years, the artificial intelligence (AI) technology is becoming more and more popular in many areas due to its amazing performance. However, the application of AI techniques in power systems is still in its infancy. Therefore, in this paper, the application potentials of AI technologies in power systems will be discussed by mainly focusing on the power system operation and monitoring. For the power system operation, the problems, the demands, and the possible applications of AI techniques in control, optimization, and decision making problems are discussed. Subsequently, the fault detection and stability analysis problems in power system monitoring are studied. At the end of the paper, a case study to use the neural network (NN) for power flow analysis is provided as a simple example to demonstrate the viability of AI techniques in solving power system problems.

Abstract:Artificial neural networks (ANN) have achieved successes in many fields, such as pattern recognition and speech recognition etc.. In this paper, we will summary its applications in the source reconstruction for electromagnetic interference (EMI) diagnosis in two ways. Firstly, near-field scanning is used to obtain the near-field data, and then ANN is used to reconstruct the equivalent EMI sources from the near-field. Both amplitude and phase of the near-field are used in our methods. The first case is to show the ability of ANN to consider multi-reflection and/or diffraction effects in EMI source reconstruction. The next case is to show how to reconstruct EMI sources in an iterative way with ANN. Both two cases are verified by measurement examples.

Abstract:In this paper, a three-layer feedforward artificial neural networks (ANN) is applied to estimate on-line parameters of power systems. The inputs of the ANN are some measurable parameters of one system bus. The outputs of the ANN are some parameters of other system buses. The simulation results show that a well-trained ANN can approximate the real operation parameters with satisfying accuracy and great generalization abilities.

Abstract:Numerous factors, including sudden load reductions, switching transient loads, lightning strikes, and malfunctions of control devices, can result in overvoltage. Overvoltage can harm associated power supply components and result in insulation failure, electronic component damage, flashovers, etc. A machine learning technique called a "neural network" estimates computation results that depend on a lot of inputs. For a variety of reasons, neural networks have recently been used to manage and optimize the power system. This paper presents an artificial neural network (ANN)-based approach to determining overvoltages in power systems. To simulate overvoltages, many simulations were performed in Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP). Variations of parameters of interest that have an influence on overvoltages were made using JavaScript that was connected to EMTP models. The extraction of characteristic parameters from overvoltage waveshape is a demanding task, and it was conducted in MATLAB, as was a overvoltage classification methodology based on neural networks. Results were presented and discussed.

Abstract:Increasingly nonlinear dynamic loads have been connected into power systems; such as variable speed drives, robotic factories and power electronics loads. This adds to the complexity of load modeling. The increasing complexity of the modern power grid highlights the need for advanced modeling and control techniques for effective control of excitation and turbine systems. The crucial factors affecting the modern power systems today is voltage control and system stabilization during small and large disturbances. Simulation studies and real-time laboratory experimental studies carried out are described and the results show the successful control of the power system excitation and turbine systems with adaptive and optimal neurocontrol approaches.

Abstract:The application of wide-area measurement systems in power grids is increasing in recent years, which has unique advantages on using the dynamic data in power system analysis, prediction and classification with artificial intelligence (AI) and other methods. This provides a broad development prospect for the technical based on dynamic data in complex problems such as transient analysis and control in the power system. This paper first analyses the basic methods and processes of power system transient stability assessment based on dynamic data, provides a comprehensive overview of the current status of the research on the application of artificial intelligence on power angle stability analysis, and discusses the problems and challenges faced by new power system transient stability under the situation of the increasing of new energy sources and the power electronics. Finally, the development trend of data-driven analysis methods and their application in power-angle stability problems are prospected.

Abstract:As the scale of power system increases, traditional numerical methods in eigenvalue computation for small-signal stability assessment are unable to meet the requirement of real-time analysis.Therefore, this paper proposes a small-signal stability assessment method based on deep-learning (convolutional neural network). This method takes the signals of wide-area measurement system as inputs of the model and generates critical eigenvalues as outputs.After the necessary preprocessing of the inputs and outputs, the mapping relationship between inputs and outputs can be established by deep neural network.Discrete cosine transformation and graphics processing unit parallelization techniques are employed to overcome the challenges from high dimension and slow training rate of large-scale system.Case study results indicate that the proposed method is able to accurately obtain the critical eigenvalues of the studied system after offline training using historic data, given no significant change in control parameters.

Abstract:The development of power system requires higher transient stability assessment. The existing methods are faced with severe challenges in terms of scope, accuracy and efficiency of assessment. In this paper, the attribute network embedding algorithm is combined with deep learning for the first time, and an intelligent assessment framework of power system transient stability is proposed by combining the characteristics of power network topology. Firstly, a set of electric quantity characteristics reflecting the power system node attributes and the position characteristics reflecting the relative position relationship between nodes are constructed. Then AANE algorithm is used to extract the key features of the topology structure and node attribute information of the fusion power network. The extracted feature quantity is used as the input of the ensemble DBN model, and the stable result is used as the output quantity. The deep architecture is used to train the mapping relationship between the stable structure and the system characteristics. Finally, the idea of the algorithm and the detailed evaluation process are presented, and provides a new solution for transient stability assessment considering the system operation mode and topology changes.

Abstract:Diagnosing the stability of power grids based on artificial intelligence technology is a research trend. The existing artificial intelligence stability analysis methods rely on a large number of fault case data, while the graph neural network method ignores the correlation characteristics of nodes themselves and the correlation of long-distance nodes. In order to solve the problems, the graph multi-attention neural network (GMANN) was proposed. The self-attention, which characterizes the correlation between different state quantities of a single node, is proposed, firstly. Then, long-distance association attention, which represents the correlation of distant nodes in the power grid, was proposed. The long-distance correlation attention and the adjacent correlation attention in graph attention network are fused to form a global attention that reflects the global importance of the power grid. The channel attention that characterizes the importance of different pooling methods of graph convolutional network is extracted and used to obtain the importance of different convolution operations. Finally, based on the multi-source attention fusion strategy, global attention and channel attention are embedded in the graph attention neural network to form a multi-level evaluation model to achieve power grid stability evaluation efficiently guided by multiple attentions. The proposed GMANN is verified based on simulated fault cases obtained from the 10-machine 39-node system in New England. The results show that the accuracy of the GMANN can reach 97.34%, which is better than other methods. And the missed judgment rate of important indicators is significantly better than other methods.

Abstract:Abstract Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are recognized for their good properties in solving the non-linear classification problem. Especially, ANNs and their latest advancements in deep learning (DL) are blooming in artificial intelligence (AI) fields in the past few years. They have recently proven their abilities to handle some complex fault diagnosis problems. In the context of these backgrounds, this paper provides a concise review on the applications of ANNs to condition monitoring and fault diagnosis (CMFD) of nuclear power plants (NPPs). Firstly, a brief description of basic principle of ANNs are given. Then, a number of studies reported in both the journals and conferences are reviewed. These studies are divided into two categories according the application types of ANNs: shallow ANNs and deep ANNs. Finally, the conclusions and trends developed in the future are summarized.
