Abstract:Temperature-programmed desorption of pyridine on solid superacids has been investigated using an on-line thermal conductivity detector and a flame ionization detector. The effluent gases were collected under liquid N2 temperature and analyzed using a mass spectrometer. Pyridine is oxidized on both the sulfated and tungstated oxides, and CO2 and SO2 are found to desorb above 500 °C. The results from the temperature-programmed desorption of pyridine cannot be correlated with the acid strength and the n-butane isomerization activity of the solid superacids.
