Abstract:Methods toward the dimerization and homocoupling of terminal alkynes have been established that employ Co complexes along with tBuOK under different atmosphere. A variety of Z-1,3-enynes were furnished with a high Z:E (up to 93:7) ratio in moderate to very good yields under inert atmosphere. Alternatively, the Glaser homocoupling reaction of terminal alkynes was also accomplished with a Co catalyst, successfully affording various 1,3-diynes in excellent yields (up to 93%) under oxygen.

Abstract:Bis(alkynyl)silanes react with low valent zirconocene species to afford zircon cyclobutene intermediates. These in situ generated reactive organometallic intermediates can react with alkynes, ketones, aldehydes, and isocyanates by means of a novel skeletal rearrangement. When a zirconacy-clobutene intermediate was treated with an alkyne, an alpha-alkynylsilyl zirco-nacyclopentadiene was formed. Addition of dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD) and CuCl resulted in one-pot formation of an alkynylsilyl-benzene derivative from three different alkynes. At a higher temperature, the alpha-alkynyl-silylzirconacyclopentadiene was transformed by means of an intramolecular skeletal rearrangement to a zirconacy-clohexadiene-silacyclobutene fused-ring compound, which reacted with DMAD in the presence of CuCl affording the same alkynylsilyl-benzene derivative. When treated with a ketone, an aldehdye, or an isocyanate, the zirconocyclobutene intermediate also underwent the above-mentioned skeletal rearrangement, generating zirconocene-mediated cross-coupling products.

Abstract:A new protocol has been developed for the formation of C−Se and C−S bonds by the direct selenosulfonylation of alkenes. This protocol is operationally simplistic, has a wide substrate scope, uses readily available seleno and sulfonyl sources, and is amenable to gram-scale synthesis. This reaction represents a significant addition to the limited number of reactions available for the intermolecular selenide difunctionalization of alkenes and would be useful for the synthesis of sulfur- and selenium-containing molecules

Abstract:In the presence of catalytic amount of cesium hydroxide, the hydroselenation of terminal alkynes occurred in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at room temperature under nitrogen atmosphere to afford (E)-1-organseleno-l-alkene in high yields. The reaction mechanism is that selenols reacted with cesium hydroxide to give cesium selenides, which underwent nucleophilic addition to the alkynes to form selenium vinylic anion, hydrolyzed to give product (E)-1-organoselenovinylene and catalyst cesium hydroxide. The method could provide a new and expedient way for the hydroselenation of unactivated alkynes.

Abstract:Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions between naturally abundant sp3-hybridized carbon centers facilitate access to diverse molecules with complex three-dimensional structures. Organometallic compounds are among one of the most powerful reagents that are broadly used in carbon–carbon bond formations. Although sp2-hybridized organometallic compounds are widely employed in cross-couplings, sp3-hybridized organometallic coupling partners are less developed. Herein, we report visible-light-induced single nickel-catalyzed C(sp3)–C(sp3), C(sp3)–C(sp2), and C(sp3)–C(sp) cross-coupling reactions using alkylzirconocenes, which are easily generated in situ from terminal or internal unactivated alkenes through hydrozirconation and chain walking. This method is mild and applicable for a large range of substrates including primary, secondary, tertiary alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, alkynyl halides, and a variety of alkenes. Mechanistic studies suggest a novel nickel-catalyzed radical cross-coupling pathway, which represents the first visible-light-induced transformation of alkylzirconocenes.

Abstract:An efficient cross-coupling reaction of N-allylic sulfonimides with organozinc reagents has been developed. In the presence of 1 mol-% of Pd2(dba)3, a range of N-allylic sulfonimides smoothly couple with various organozinc reagents at room temperature to give the corresponding (E)-alkene products in moderate to excellent yields and with good to exclusive a-selectivity. It is noteworthy that allyl ether, benzyl ether, and ester are tolerated under the reaction conditions.

Abstract:Reaction of alkynyllithium with zirconocene dichloride in the presence of quinones afforded zirconoenediynes in good yields. Treatment of the zirconoenediyne with p-chloranil in the presence of CuCl afforded 1,1,4,4-tetraethynyl-1,3-diene in good yield. Abstract:Robust N-heterocyclic carbene palladium complexes are highly efficient catalysts for direct alkylsulfonylation of (hetero) aryl-or alkenyl-boronic acids with potassium metabisulfite and (hetero)-alkyl-halides. Among them, acenaphthoimidazolylidene palladium(II) complexes exhibited the highest activities, and up to quantitative yields were obtained for diverse structurally distinct sulfones under very mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:Sonogashira-type cross-couplings of functionalized heterocyclic halides with terminal alkynes were performed efficiently at room temperature. The heteroaryl halides were easily prepared from the corresponding heterocyclic compounds. The catalytic system tolerated a very broad scope of substrates; oxazoles, thiazoles, and furans participate in this type of reaction for the first time. This reaction provides an efficient method for the direct functionalization of heterocycles.

Abstract:Palladium catalysts deposited over silica gel bearing simple amine (≡Si(CH2)3NH2) and composite functional amide pendants equipped with various donor groups in the terminal position (≡Si(CH2)3NHC(O)CH2Y, Y = SMe, NMe2 and PPh2) were prepared and evaluated in Sonogashira-type cross-coupling of acyl chlorides with terminal alkynes to give 1,3-disubstituted prop-2-yn-1-ones. Generally, the catalysts showed good catalytic activity in the reactions of aroyl chlorides with aryl alkynes under relatively mild reaction conditions even without adding a copper co-catalyst. However, their repeated use was compromised by a significant loss of activity after the first catalytic run.
