Abstract:The article discusses book information domain metadata description criterian,introduces Dublin Core ElementSet(DC for short) and Machine Readable Catalogue(MARC for short),and builds the web book information metadata description criterion,and describes the book instance with XML under our criterion.

Abstract:In recent years,digital publishing share in the information society more and more,readers of the growing demand for personalized service strong traditional culture,publishing services are currently unable to meet this demand,especially for the digital home needs.For family-oriented,personalized digital publishing needs,this paper uses the method of multi-dimensional indexing metadata tissue,data mining,knowledge classification management,natural language as the three dimensions of the dynamic association to create a database;mechanical matching personalized method of data retrieval,and can take the initiative to push;through the reorganization of the publishing and content transcoding method,the layout can keep the original format of the EPUB format document;using digital watermarking and digital encryption to protect the method of combining the author's legitimate interests.In this article based on the development of family-oriented personal digital publishing services system,in practice,demonstrate the practicality of this technology.

Abstract:Increasing amount of commercial data is presented in XML format for exchanging or publishing on the web. It is emerging as a new standard for information representation and exchanging over the Internet. How to retrieve valuable information from XML documents on the web is a new challenge to data mining research. Compared with relational database, XML data in documents is stored as file with tree logical structure inside, it results in lower efficiency and performance in directly querying data. So it is still necessary to transform data into database (warehouse) for data mining afterwards. In this paper, we present a scheme to analyze relation of elements in XML on the web, and construct relational database schema based on the analysis. During the process, there would be a worthy accessory product - a glossary, which can facilitate the process of data mining warehouse designing and building. © 2006 IEEE.

Abstract:Dublin Core is a metadata standard for general electronicdocument description on Internet.The metadata specification in document information field is Machine Readable Catalogue.In order to reuse the large amount of MARC bibliography data on Internet,we extend the Dublin Core for bibliography,and design and implement a bibliography meta-information management system based on EDC(Extended Dublin Core).Further more,critical technology of implementation is discussed.Practical system development shows the feasibility of the design scheme.

Abstract:Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Resource Description Framework (RDF),these metadata standards announced by W3C,standardize the resources description syntax and semantics on Internet respectively,and offer an infrastructure for the encoding,exchange and reuse of metadata. In this paper, considering the large amount of MARC data in numerous library systems, we present the MARC metadata description approach based on XML/RDF. We mainly solve the problems on the MARC mtadata description based on XML and RDF respectively. It enables the possibility of the conversion from the MARC specific format metadata to the general machine-readable and machine-understandable metadata. The achievements of our research will contribute to the existing MARC data utilization in digital library in the future.

Abstract:The Metadata Standards of data in geo-information science have been created by many international organizations.But they only lay great stress on the public and common object.For the Geo-Object classes,which are important to the exchanging,searching and sharing web geo-information sources,have not been described in details.Therefore we need an essential metadata standard for integrating searching, exchanging, and sharing all sorts of web geo-information sources on the Internet. In this paper, considering the large amount of Geo-Object description in various sources, we present the GOMS Metadata description approach based on XML.It enables the possibility of the conversion from the specific format to the general machine-readable and machine-understandable metadata. GOMS and Extensible Markup Language annouced by W3C, standardize the Geo-Object resources description semantics and syntax on the Internet respectively, and offer an importance for the encoding exchange and reuse of Metadata.

Abstract:Metadata make the spatial data more effective and have great benefits in data managing,using and sharing.The method how to design and realize land use metadata management subsystem has been especially discussed.Relationship of metadata inscape is first analyzed,then the module of managing metadata is designed and the process of designing metadata subsystem is analyzed.The XML(Extensible Markup Language) document is used as the way of organizing the content of land us metadata and the new technology XSLT(Extensible StyleSheet Language Transformations) is used to transform the document created by XML.The result is successfully integrated in the system of LanEx.The method that the paper adopted is of typical and general.

Abstract:Presented is the metadata research and development in China. Beginning in the 1980s, the research project aimed at developing Chinese metadata standards, schemes, and specifications was first launched in 1997. Since then, many metadata-related projects have been conducted and completed. This paper summarizes the achievements of these projects, and introduces Chinese metadata standards, schemes, and specifications in digital libraries, archives management, and digital resources management in some specific domains. Specifically, it introduces a series of CDLS (Chinese Digital Library Standards) metadata standards based on Dublin Core (DC), the metadata standard for Chinese administrative electronic records, and gives an overview of Chinese metadata standards for digital resources in various specific domains. Abstract:Extracting metadata from academic papers has attracted much attention from researchers in past years. But how to extract metadata automatically from books is still seldom discussed. In this paper, we address this task on Chinese books and present a system to extract metadata from the title page of a book. This system consists of three components: metadata segmentation, metadata labeling, and post-processing. Different strategies are adopted in the system to identify different metadata types, and a variety of information sources, including geometric layout, linguistic, semantic content and header-footer, are used to accommodate the wide range of metadata layouts. Experimental results on real-world data have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed system.

Abstract:The ocean color remote sensing metadata describes the content, quality, condition, and other characteristics of ocean color remote sensing data. Paper presents a metadata standard draft based on XML, and gives the details of main ocean color remote sensing metadata XML elements. The ocean color remote sensing data platform-sharing is in developments as a part of the digital ocean system, on this basis, the ocean color remote sensing metadata directory service system based on web service is put forward, which aims to store and manage the ocean color remote sensing metadata effectively. The metadata of the ocean color remote sensing data become the most important event for the ocean color remote sensing information more retrieved and used.

Abstract:Commonly, an organizational information system may have various data types and directory formats. It usually employs different metadata formats to represent the documents. Although the metadata system can cover the different formats of documents, there still exist the integration problems in various metadata systems. This may lower the performance of data processing and impede information sharing. Research focuses on the model of using multi‐XML schema to construct an XML system framework. Through a complete hierarchical tree structure definition of inner elements, the proposed model can settle the weakness of traditional object‐oriented languages in information sharing; it can also eliminate the constraints of storage and management among heterogeneous metadata while processing different metadata information.

Abstract:Book reviews contributed by readers in social sites contain valuable information on books' content, style and merit, many informative words in which can be used to enrich metadata of books in China-Us Million Book Digital Library. In this paper, we present a system for review-oriented metadata enrichment and propose an Book-Centric Diverse Random Walk algorithm on a four-partite graph containing three kinds of relations among authors, books, reviews and words, in order to produce highly relevant as well as diverse keywords for a book. Experimental results of a user study show that our approach significantly outperforms other methods in terms of relevance and diversity. The metadata generated by our approach also has a large overlap with popular social tags and brief introductions from DouBan for books in the coverage experiments.

Abstract:Web pages are typical semi-structure data. Some tree-based models have been proposed to describe the semantic content structure of web pages in order to facilitate further content analysis. However, most existing models only present the segmentation hierarchy of content blocks rather than the semantic relationships among them. In this work, we propose a novel web page semantic structure model, called Logical Structure Model. It can present more comprehensive structure information of web pages. Based on this model, the hidden patterns in web content can be revealed easier. The proposed model has been used to facilitate identifying course metadata in our Online Course Organization project, which aims to build an online course portal to serve the course information obtained from the Web.
