Abstract:In Digital Library, information is often stored in unstructured and semi-structured textual form. Domain modeling techniques are used for specific domain knowledge services in order to make use of the massive amounts of textual information. Ontology is an efficient way to build specific domain model for abstraction of concepts and relations. In this , we propose an ontology-based domain modeling framework, CADAL-ODM, to structure domain model. CADAL-ODM is designed to provide multi-level and multi-granularity knowledge services in order to meet the various requirements of users in digital library instead of basic reading service. We explain our work by which knowledge is extracted automatically from the unstructured and semi-structured documents. Specific domain model is structured by specific domain ontology description and extracted knowledge. We evaluate the framework with real data sets, specifically, the medical records of TCM documents set from CADAL.

Abstract:Extensible Markup Language (XML) and Resource Description Framework (RDF),these metadata standards announced by W3C,standardize the resources description syntax and semantics on Internet respectively,and offer an infrastructure for the encoding,exchange and reuse of metadata. In this paper, considering the large amount of MARC data in numerous library systems, we present the MARC metadata description approach based on XML/RDF. We mainly solve the problems on the MARC mtadata description based on XML and RDF respectively. It enables the possibility of the conversion from the MARC specific format metadata to the general machine-readable and machine-understandable metadata. The achievements of our research will contribute to the existing MARC data utilization in digital library in the future.

Abstract:Dublin Core is a metadata standard for general electronicdocument description on Internet.The metadata specification in document information field is Machine Readable Catalogue.In order to reuse the large amount of MARC bibliography data on Internet,we extend the Dublin Core for bibliography,and design and implement a bibliography meta-information management system based on EDC(Extended Dublin Core).Further more,critical technology of implementation is discussed.Practical system development shows the feasibility of the design scheme.

Abstract:In April 2016, a community of researchers working in the area of Principles of Data Management (PDM) joined in the Dagstuhl Castle in Germany for a workshop organized jointly by the Executive Committee of the ACM Symposium on Principles of Database Systems (PODS) and the Council of the International Conference on Database Theory (ICDT). The mission of this workshop was to identify and explore some of the most important research directions that have high relevance to society and to Computer Science today, and where the PDM community has the potential to make significant contributions. This report describes the family of research directions that the workshop focused on from three perspectives: potential practical relevance, results already obtained, and research questions that appear surmountable in the short and medium term. Abstract:In order to solve the problem of computing the core of consistent information system, based on the full analysis of rough set theory and decision tree method, we introduce the concept of the core samples and put forward a method of computing core attributes. It is proved that this method is effective combined with specific instance. Results show that the core computing method based on the decision tree has good operability and interpretability and this method can effectively calculate the core attributes of the information system.

Abstract:Exploring the topic hierarchy of a research field can help us better recognize its intellectual structure. This paper proposes a new method to automatically discover the topic hierarchy, in which the keyword network is constructed to represent topics and their relations, and then decomposed hierarchically into shells using the K-core decomposition method. Adjacent shells with similar morphology are merged into layers according to their density and clustering coefficient. In the keyword network of the digital library field in China, we discover four different layers. The basic layer contains 17 tightly-interconnected core concepts which form the knowledge base of the field. The middle layer contains 13 mediator concepts which are directly connected to technology concepts in the basic layer, showing the knowledge evolution of the field. The detail layer contains 65 concrete concepts which can be grouped into 13 clusters, indicating the research specializations of the field. The marginal layer contains peripheral or isolated concepts.

Abstract:We show how faceted search using a combination of traditional classification systems and mixed-membership topic models can go beyond keyword search to inform resource discovery, hypothesis formulation, and argument extraction for interdisciplinary research. Our test domain is the history and philosophy of scientific work on animal mind and cognition. The methods can be generalized to other research areas and ultimately support a system for semi-automatic identification of argument structures. We provide a case study for the application of the methods to the problem of identifying and extracting arguments about anthropomorphism during a critical period in the development of comparative psychology. We show how a combination of classification systems and mixed-membership models trained over large digital libraries can inform resource discovery in this domain. Through a novel approach of "drill-down" topic modeling-simultaneously reducing both the size of the corpus and the unit of analysis-we are able to reduce a large collection of fulltext volumes to a much smaller set of pages within six focal volumes containing arguments of interest to historians and philosophers of comparative psychology. The volumes identified in this way did not appear among the first ten results of the keyword search in the HathiTrust digital library and the pages bear the kind of "close reading" needed to generate original interpretations that is the heart of scholarly work in the humanities. Zooming back out, we provide a way to place the books onto a map of science originally constructed from very different data and for different purposes. The multilevel approach advances understanding of the intellectual and societal contexts in which writings are interpreted.

Based on the log data of ACM DL, we investigated the characteristics of the queries submitted by users, the distribution features of search topics in ACM DL and the relationship between query reformulation and search topic. In the future, we will study the complex relation between search sessions in-depth and how to classify the users' search topics better. It will help digital library serve users better.

Abstract:The conceptual knowledge framework OML/CKML needs several components for a successful design. One important, but previously overlooked, component is the central core of OML/CKML. The central core provides a theoretical link between the ontological specification in OML and the conceptual knowledge representation in CKML. This paper discusses the formal semantics and syntactic styles of the central core, and also the important role it plays in defining interoperability between OML/CKML, RDF/S and Ontolingua.

MCR-Tree: An Efficient Index for Multi-dimensional Core Search.

Abstract:Core models are well-known cohesive subgraph models for graph analytics that have been extensively studied. These models, including (α, β)-core, (k, l)-core, and k -core, have multiple parameters, which are referred to as multi-dimensional cores. The goal of core search is to retrieve subgraphs from a graph that satisfy the semantics of a given core model. In the literature, various indexes have been proposed to accelerate core search for different core models. However, existing indexes suffer from several limitations, such as significant redundancy, lack of scalability with respect to the number of parameters, limited generality, and inadequate consideration of index maintenance. To address these limitations, in this paper, we thoroughly investigate the problem of multi-dimensional core search. In particular, we propose a novel index called MCR-Tree, which can be applied to different core models. The MCR-Tree projects all vertices into a multi-dimensional space by leveraging the skyline corenesses, which are indexed by an R-tree. Furthermore, the MCR-Tree integrates the connectivity information of subgraphs into the nodes of the R-tree to facilitate multi-dimensional core search. Subsequently, an efficient branch-and-bound algorithm is designed to perform multi-dimensional core search by traversing the MCR-Tree. Additionally, we discuss how to maintain the MCR-Tree for graph updates. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the MCR-Tree is up to two orders of magnitude smaller than existing indexes and the MCR-Tree-based core search method is up to an order of magnitude faster than existing algorithms.

In this paper, the author analyzes the characteristics and differences of Chinese Cataloging Rules and Descriptive Cataloguing Rules for Western Materials, and proposes some future trends, such as revising cataloging rules, improving record quality, describing documents in deeper levels, developing online cataloging, realizing FRBR and improving OPAC functions. 7 refs.
RK-core: An Established Methodology for Exploring the Hierarchical Structure within Datasets

Abstract:Recently, the field of machine learning has undergone a transition from model-centric to data-centric. The advancements in diverse learning tasks have been propelled by the accumulation of more extensive datasets, subsequently facilitating the training of larger models on these datasets. However, these datasets remain relatively under-explored. To this end, we introduce a pioneering approach known as RK-core, to empower gaining a deeper understanding of the intricate hierarchical structure within datasets. Across several benchmark datasets, we find that samples with low coreness values appear less representative of their respective categories, and conversely, those with high coreness values exhibit greater representativeness. Correspondingly, samples with high coreness values make a more substantial contribution to the performance in comparison to those with low coreness values. Building upon this, we further employ RK-core to analyze the hierarchical structure of samples with different coreset selection methods. Remarkably, we find that a high-quality coreset should exhibit hierarchical diversity instead of solely opting for representative samples. Abstract:A technique for converting Library of Congress Subject Headings MARCXML to Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) RDF is described. Strengths of the SKOS vocabulary are highlighted, as well as possible points for extension, and the integration of other semantic web vocabularies such as Dublin Core.
