Abstract:The decidability of weak bisimilarity on normed BPA is a long standing open problem. It is proved in this paper that branching bisimilarity, a standard refinement of weak bisimilarity, is decidable for normed BPA and that the associated regularity problem is also decidable.

Abstract:Recent studies reveal that branching bisimilarity is decidable for both nBPP (normed Basic Parallel Processes) and nBPA (normed Basic Process Algebras). These results lead to the question if there are any other models in the hierarchy of PRS (Process Rewrite Systems) whose branching bisimilarity is decidable. It is shown in this paper that the branching bisimilarity for both nOCN (normed One Counter Nets) and nPA (normed Process Algebras) is undecidable. These results essentially imply that the question has a negative answer.

In the present paper it is shown that the branching bisimilarity of the normed -pushing PDA is decidable and that the branching bisimilarity of the -pushing PDA remains Σ 1 -complete.

Abstract:The paper considers the strong bisimilarity/similarity checking problems for CCS and CCS, two typical variants of CCS. The strong bisimilarity of the CCS/CCS processes is shown to be Π 1 -complete, even when the processes are restricted to the restriction prenex normal forms. The strong bisimilarity between a CCS/CCS process and a fixed regular process is also shown to be Π 1 -complete. The paper also establishes the decidability of the similarity problem of a regular process by a CCS process.

Abstract:The structured argumentation system that represents arguments by premise-conclusion pairs is called premise-conclusion argumentation (PA) and the one that represents arguments by their premises is called base argumentation (BA). To assess whether BA and PA have the same ability in argument evaluation by extensional semantics, this paper defines the notion of extensional equivalence between BA and PA. It also defines the notion of bisimulation between BA and PA and shows that bisimulation implies extensional equivalence. To illustrate how base argumentation, bisimulation and extensional equivalence can contribute to the study of PA, we prove some new results about PA by investigating the extensional properties of a base argumentation framework and exporting them to two premise-conclusion argumentation frameworks via bisimulation and extensional equivalence. We show that there are essentially three kinds of extensions in these frameworks and that the extensions in the two premise-conclusion argumentation frameworks are identical.

Abstract:The bounded linear regularity property plays a key role in the study of the strong convergence and/or convergence rate of the CQ algorithm for solving split feasibility problems. To establish some sufficient conditions ensuring the bounded linear regularity property for split feasibility problems in normed linear spaces, we introduce the notion of a relative regularity condition and its associated relative regularity constant in spirit of the regularity condition used in Burke and Ferris (1995) [12]. Based on convex analysis techniques, we explore equivalent characterizations of the relative regularity condition, which in particular extend the classical results in Burke and Ferris (1995) [12] from the Euclidean space to general normed linear spaces, and then establish some important and useful properties in terms of the related relative regularity constant. Consequently, we develop a new technique to establish some sufficient conditions ensuring the bounded linear regularity property for split feasibility problems in normed linear spaces. The sufficient conditions presented in this paper are in terms of the relative regularity constant, which seem completely new. Applied to the case of Hilbert spaces, our results extend and improve the corresponding ones in Wang et al. (2017) [35] by relaxing the relevant assumptions.(c) 2023 Elsevier Inc. Abstract:Recently a branching bisimilarity congruence has been established for randomized process models in a model independent approach. In this paper, we propose a new probabilistic weak bisimilarity for randomized CCS and show that it is a congruence. We also provide a complete axiomatization for the finite submodel. Both work respect model independency and thus can be easily generalized to randomized extension of any interactive model.

Abstract:Place bisimilarity is a behavioral equivalence for finite Petri nets, proposed in \cite{ABS91} and proved decidable in \cite{Gor21}. In this paper we propose an extension to finite Petri nets with silent moves of the place bisimulation idea, yielding {\em branching} place bisimilarity $\approx_p$, following the intuition of branching bisimilarity \cite{vGW96} on labeled transition systems. We also propose a slightly coarser variant, called branching {\em d-place} bisimilarity $\approx_d$, following the intuition of d-place bisimilarity in \cite{Gor21}. We prove that $\approx_p$ and $\approx_d$ are decidable equivalence relations. Moreover, we prove that $\approx_d$ is strictly finer than branching fully-concurrent bisimilarity \cite{Pin93,Gor20c}, essentially because $\approx_d$ does not consider as unobservable those $\tau$-labeled net transitions with pre-set size larger than one, i.e., those resulting from (multi-party) interaction.

Abstract:Recently a branching bisimilarity congruence has been established for randomized process models in a model independent approach. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic weak bisimilarity for randomized CCS based on the notion of weak ϵ-tree and show that it is a congruence. We also provide a complete axiomatization for the finite fragment of the language. Both the definition of weak bisimilarity and the proof of congruence respect model independency and thus can be easily generalized to a randomized extension of any interactive model.

Abstract:The logic of bunched implications (BI), introduced by O'Hearn and Pym, is a substructural logic which freely combines additive and multiplicative implications. Boolean BI (BBI) denotes BI with classical interpretation of additives and its model is the commutative monoid. We show that when the monoid is finitely generated and propositions are recursively defined, or the monoid is infinitely generated and propositions are restricted to generator propositions, the model checking problem is undecidable. In the case of finitely related monoid and generator propositions, the model checking problem is EXPSPACE-complete.

Abstract:Geuvers and Jacobs (LMCS 2021) formulated the notion of apartness relation on state-based systems modelled as coalgebras. In this context apartness is formally dual to bisimilarity, and gives an explicit proof system for showing that certain states are not bisimilar. In the current paper, we relate apartness to another classical element of the theory of behavioural equivalences: that of turn-based two-player games. Studying both strong and branching bisimilarity, we show that winning configurations for the Spoiler player correspond to apartness proofs, for transition systems that are image-finite (in the case of strong bisimilarity) and finite (in the case of branching bisimilarity).

Abstract:Probabilistic B\"uchi automata are a natural generalization of PFA to infinite words, but have been studied in-depth only rather recently and many interesting questions are still open. PBA are known to accept, in general, a class of languages that goes beyond the regular languages. In this work we extend the known classes of restricted PBA which are still regular, strongly relying on notions concerning ambiguity in classical omega-automata. Furthermore, we investigate the expressivity of the not yet considered but natural class of weak PBA, and we also show that the regularity problem for weak PBA is undecidable.
On the bisimulation congruence in chi-calculus - (Extended abstract)

Abstract:In this paper, we study weak bisimulation congruences for the X-calculus, a symmetric variant of the pi-calculus. We distinguish two styles of such bisimulation definitions, i.e. "open" and "closed" bisimulation, the difference between which lies in that in open style the equivalence is closed under context in every bisimulation step whereas in closed style the equivalence is closed under context only at the very beginning. As a result, we show that both in labelled and barbed congruence, the open and closed style definitions coincide. Thus all bisimulation congruences collapse into two equivalences, that is, the well-known open congruence and open barbed congruence, which axe the same in the strong case, while in the weak case their difference can be reflected by one axiom. The results of this paper close some conjectures in the literatures and shed light on the algebraic theory of a large class of mobile process calculi.
Decidable (Ac)counting with Parikh and Muller: Adding Presburger Arithmetic to Monadic Second-Order Logic over Tree-Interpretable Structures

Abstract:We propose $\omega$MSO$\Join$BAPA, an expressive logic for describing countable structures, which subsumes and transcends both Counting Monadic Second-Order Logic (CMSO) and Boolean Algebra with Presburger Arithmetic (BAPA). We show that satisfiability of $\omega$MSO$\Join$BAPA is decidable over the class of labeled infinite binary trees, whereas it becomes undecidable even for a rather mild relaxations. The decidability result is established by an elaborate multi-step transformation into a particular normal form, followed by the deployment of Parikh-Muller Tree Automata, a novel kind of automaton for infinite labeled binary trees, integrating and generalizing both Muller and Parikh automata while still exhibiting a decidable (in fact PSpace-complete) emptiness problem. By means of MSO-interpretations, we lift the decidability result to all tree-interpretable classes of structures, including the classes of finite/countable structures of bounded treewidth/cliquewidth/partitionwidth. We generalize the result further by showing that decidability is even preserved when coupling width-restricted $\omega$MSO$\Join$BAPA with width-unrestricted two-variable logic with advanced counting. A final showcase demonstrates how our results can be leveraged to harvest decidability results for expressive $\mu$-calculi extended by global Presburger constraints.

Complete Abstractions for Checking Language Inclusion

Abstract:We study the language inclusion problem L 1 ⊆ L 2 , where L 1 is regular or context-free. Our approach relies on abstract interpretation and checks whether an overapproximating abstraction of L 1 , obtained by approximating the Kleene iterates of its least fixpoint characterization, is included in L 2 . We show that a language inclusion problem is decidable whenever this overapproximating abstraction satisfies a completeness condition (i.e., its loss of precision causes no false alarm) and prevents infinite ascending chains (i.e., it guarantees termination of least fixpoint computations). This overapproximating abstraction of languages can be defined using quasiorder relations on words, where the abstraction gives the language of all the words “greater than or equal to” a given input word for that quasiorder. We put forward a range of such quasiorders that allow us to systematically design decision procedures for different language inclusion problems, such as regular languages into regular languages or into trace sets of one-counter nets, and context-free languages into regular languages. In the case of inclusion between regular languages, some of the induced inclusion checking procedures correspond to well-known state-of-the-art algorithms, like the so-called antichain algorithms. Finally, we provide an equivalent language inclusion checking algorithm based on a greatest fixpoint computation that relies on quotients of languages and, to the best of our knowledge, was not previously known.

Abstract:Bisimilarity is one of the most important relations for comparing the behaviour of formal systems in concurrency theory. Decision algorithms for bisimilarity in finite state systems are usually classified into two kinds: global algorithms are generally efficient but require to generate the whole state spaces in advance, local algorithms combine the verification of a system's behaviour with the generation of the system's state space, which is often more effective to determine that one system fails to be related to another. In this paper we propose a quasi-local algorithm with worst case time complexity O(m1m2), where m1 and m2 are the numbers of transitions in two labelled transition systems. With mild modifications, the algorithm can be easily adapted to decide similarity with the same time complexity. For deterministic systems, the algorithm can be simplified and runs in time O(min(m1, m2)).

Abstract:In this work, we study the non rough norms in Banach spaces with small diameter properties, namely the Ball Dentable Property (BDP), the Ball Huskable Property (BHP) and the Ball Small Combination of Slice Property (BSCSP). We introduce two more notions of non rough norms, namely the weakly average non rough norms and average non rough norms in Banach spaces. We prove the duality between these three versions of non rough norms and the small diameter properties in Banach spaces. We also prove that each of the three non rough norms is a three space property under certain assumptions.
