Abstract:In this correspondence, we construct some new quadratic bent functions in polynomial forms by using the theory of quadratic forms over finite fields. The results improve some previous work. Moreover, we solve a problem left by Yu and Gong in 2006.

Abstract:A sufficient and necessary condition that a quadratic polynomial function is a bent function was presented by Ma W P, et al. in 2005. In the same year, Charpin P, et al proposed a sufficient and necessary condition that a polynomial function is a quadratic semi-Bent function with three trace terms in a paper. Corollary 5, 6 of the former and Theorem 5, 6 of the latter are not quite right by further investigating these conditions. Based on the theory of quadratic polynomial over finite fields, the correct conditions are presented. Moreover, some quadratic bent functions with three or four trace terms are constructed. Finally, a new method for constructing bent functions in polynomial forms is provided by using bent functions of two trace terms and permutation of polynomial.

Abstract:Bent functions have many applications of great importance in graph theory,combinatorial design theory,cryptography and communications for the constructing of strong regular graphs,S-boxes in symmetric cryptography,sequences,association schemes,codes and so on.It is of great difficulty to completely characterize bent functions.Therefore,lots of research work mainly focuses on the characterization and construction of special bent functions.This paper talks about the characterization and construction of a class of quadratic bent functions by using properties of cyclotomic polynomials and their polynomial coefficients to present detailed characterization of quadratic bent functions in two cases and enumerates the number of quadratic bent functions in the second case.

Abstract:In this paper, a new construction of quaternary bent functions from quaternary quadratic forms over Galois rings of characteristic 4 is proposed. Based on this construction, several new classes of quaternary bent functions are obtained, and as a consequence, several new classes of quadratic binary bent and semi-bent functions in polynomial forms are derived. This work generalizes the recent work of N. Li, X. Tang and T. Helleseth.

Abstract:In this paper, we first discuss the bentness of a large class of quadratic Boolean functions in polynomial form $f(x)=\sum _{i=1}^{{n}/{2}-1}\mathrm {Tr}^n_1(c_ix^{1+2^i})+ \mathrm {Tr}_1^{n/2}(c_{n/2}x^{1+2^{n/2}})$, where n is even, $c_i\in \mathrm {GF}(2^n)$ for $1\le i \le {n}/{2}-1$ and $c_{n/2}\in \mathrm {GF}(2^{n/2})$. The bentness of these functions can be connected with linearized permutation polynomials. Hence, methods for constructing quadratic bent functions are given. Further, we consider a subclass of quadratic Boolean functions of the form $f(x)=\sum _{i=1}^{{m}/{2}-1}\mathrm {Tr}^n_1(c_ix^{1+2^{ei}})+ \mathrm {Tr}_1^{n/2}(c_{m/2}x^{1+2^{n/2}})$, where $n=em$, m is even, and $c_i\in \mathrm {GF}(2^e)$. The bentness of these functions is characterized and some methods for deriving new quadratic bent functions are given. Finally, when m and e satisfy some conditions, we determine the number of these quadratic bent functions.

Abstract:We generalize the construction of affine polar graphs in two different ways to obtain partial difference sets and amorphic association schemes. In the first generalization we replace the quadratic form in the affine polar graph construction by higher degree homogeneous functions that are p-ary weakly regular bent. The second generalization uses a combination of quadratic forms and uniform cyclotomy. The negative Latin square type partial difference sets arising from the second generalization seem to be new.

Abstract:Several sufficient conditions for quadratic bent functions represented by trace are given. These sufficient conditions correspond to two families of quadratic bent functions in polynomial forms. Abstract:Bent functions have flat absolute Walsh-Hadamard spectra and negabent functions have flat absolute nega-Hadamard spectra. Those properties are wide applications in cryptography for constructing cryptographically strong functions and error correcting codes for better performance. In this paper, we present a new construction of quadratic and cubic negabent functions over finite fields. Those functions can be represented as the sum of the three components: one is the trace function of the monomial term λx 3 or it multiplying by the trace function of x; the second, the sum of all the quadratic monomial functions except for one; and the third, the product of two linear functions where the parameter λ and variable x belong to an arbitrary binary finite field of 2 n elements for n odd.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the characterization of the bentness of quadratic Boolean functions of the form $f(x)=\sum_{i=1}^{\frac{m}{2}-1} Tr^n_1(c_ix^{1+2^{ei}})+ Tr_1^{n/2}(c_{m/2}x^{1+2^{n/2}}) ,$ where $n=me$, $m$ is even and $c_i\in GF(2^e)$. For a general $m$, it is difficult to determine the bentness of these functions. We present the bentness of quadratic Boolean function for two cases: $m=2^vp^r$ and $m=2^vpq$, where $p$ and $q$ are two distinct primes. Further, we give the enumeration of quadratic bent functions for the case $m=2^vpq$.

Abstract:In this letter, using techniques from linear algebra and coding theory, we characterize the quadratic Boolean functions represented by trace. We show that a linear combination of trace-terms over finite field can be determined to be bent by a polynomial GCD computation. Then we derive some new families of bent functions.

Abstract:Bent and almost-bent functions on ℤ_p^2 are studied in this paper. By calculating certain exponential sum and using a technique due to Hou (Finite Fields Appl 10:566–582, 2004), we obtain a degree bound for quasi-bent functions, and prove that almost-bent functions on ℤ_p^2 are equivalent to a degenerate quadratic form. From the viewpoint of relative difference sets, we also characterize bent functions on ℤ_p^2 in two classes of ℳ ’s and 𝒫𝒮 ’s, and show that the graph set corresponding to a bent function on ℤ_p^2 can be written as the sum of a graph set of ℳ ’s type bent function and another group ring element. By using our characterization and some technique of permutation polynomial, we obtain the result: a bent function must be of ℳ ’s type if its corresponding set contains more than ( p − 3)/2 flats. A problem proposed by Ma and Pott (J Algebra 175:505–525, 1995) is therefore partially answered.

We first characterize the semi-bentness of these quadratic Boolean functions. There exists semi-bent functions only when m is odd. For the case: m = p r , where p is an odd prime with some conditions, we enumerate the semi-bent functions. Further, we give a simple characterization of semi-bentness for these functions with linear properties of ci. In particular, for a special case of p, any quadratic Boolean function f (x) = ∑ p1 2 i=1 T r 2p 1 (cix 1+4 i ) over F22p is a semi-bent function.

Abstract:Inspired by a recent work of Tang et al. on constructing bent functions [14, IEEE TIT, 63(1): 6149-6157, 2017], we introduce a property (Pτ) of any Boolean function that its second order derivatives vanish at any direction (ui,uj) for some τ-subset {u1,…,uτ} of $\mathbb {F}_{2^{n}}$, and then establish a link between this property and the construction of Tang et al. (IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 63(10), 6149–6157 2017). It enables us to find more bent functions efficiently. We construct (at least) five new infinite families of bent functions from some known functions: the Gold’s bent functions and some quadratic non-monomial bent functions, Leander’s monomial bent functions, Canteaut-Charpin-Kyureghyan’s monomial bent functions, and the Maiorana-McFarland class of bent functions, respectively. Our result generalizes some recent works on bent functions. We also provide the corresponding dual functions in all our constructions except the quadratic non-monomial one. It also turns out that we can get new bent functions outside the Maiorana-McFarland completed class.

Abstract:In this letter, we present a construction of bent functions which generalizes a work of Zhang et al. in 2016. Based on that, we obtain a cubic bent function in 10 variables and prove that, it has no a ffine derivative and does not belong to the completed Maiorana-McFarland class, which is opposite to all 6 /8-variable cubic bent functions as they are inside the completed Maiorana-McFarland class. This is the first time a theoretical proof is given to show that the cubic bent functions in 10 variables can be outside the completed Maiorana-McFarland class. Before that, only a sporadic example with such properties was known by computer search. We also show that our function is EA-inequivalent to that sporadic one.

Abstract:Constructing bent functions by composing a Boolean function with a permutation was introduced by Hou and Langevin in 1997. The approach appears simple but heavily depends on the construction of desirable permutations. In this paper, we further study this approach by investigating the exponential sums of certain monomials and permutations. We propose several classes of bent functions from quadratic permutations and permutations with (generalized) Niho exponents, and also a class of bent functions from a generalization of the Maiorana-McFarland class. The relations among the proposed bent functions and the known families of bent function are studied. Numerical results show that our constructions include bent functions that are not contained in the completed Maiorana-McFarland class M#, the class PSap or the class H.& COPY; 2023 Elsevier Inc. Abstract:We introduce and study dual functions of generalized Boolean bent functions over Z(4), i.e., functions from F2-vector spaces to Z(4) whose Fourier transforms have constant magnitudes. For a special class of generalized Boolean bent functions with even number of variables constructed from a class of quadratic binary bent functions in polynomial forms proposed by the first author, we explicitly determine their dual functions by explicitly determining duals of these binary bent functions.

Abstract:Bent functions,a class of Boolean functions with the maximal possible nonlinearity,have applications in the fields of different sets,combinatorial theory,sequence design and cryptography.Motivated by the design of optimally correlated sequences used in code division multiple access(CDMA) communication system,Kumar et al.Generalized the notion of Boolean bent functions to the case of functions over an arbitrary finite field in 1985.The present paper firstly studied the ranks of circulant matrices over finite field with odd characteristic,based on which we gave a sufficient and necessary condition for bentness of a class of p-ary functions derived from quadratic forms,among which some new p-ary Bent functions were generated.
