Abstract:Cyber-Individual, with a short term 'Cyber-I', is a real individual's counterpart in cyberspace. It is closely related to human-centric computing ideology which focuses on placing human in the centerof computing. The study on Cyber-I tries to re-examine and analyze human essence in the digital era. Cyber-I's vision is to create a unique, digital,comprehensive description for every real person being in the cyberspace. Human's social context, mood, temper, physical status and so on also need to beconsidered for such a full description. Further research on social computing, antropology, human behaviour study, psycology and other fields/disciplines are required to enrichCyber-I concept, meanwhile, Cyber-I will also raise new problems to these fields/disciplines. The IT technologies on the whole including ubiquitous computing, pervasive sensors, wired/wireless networks and clouds will bring Cyber-I vision into practice. In this paper, we first present the Cyber-I concept, its important characteristics and basic architecture. Then, we discuss the special features of Cyber-I as compared with other related concepts and studies including AR (Augmented Reality), HCI (Human Computer Interaction), AI, artificial life, etc. The Cyber-I layered architecture and basic elements are described in detail, and the associations between Cyber-I and the corresponding real individual are explained as well. Finally, fundamental problems and challenging issues brought by Cyber-I are addressed in terms of necessary technique, security, privacy, ethic, philosophy, etc.

Abstract:The high development of emerging computing paradigms, such as Ubiquitous Computing, Mobile Computing, and Social Computing, has brought us a big change from all walks of our work, life, learning and entertainment. Especially, with the high accessibility of social networking services along with the increasingly pervasive use of portable wireless mobile computing devices, more and more populations have been engaged into this kind of integration of real physical world and cyber digital space, which can be called the hyper world. To help people live better in the highly developed information society, the so-called cyber-individual (Cyber-I), which is far beyond a user model or a software agent to assist a user, has been proposed to provide the most comprehensive digital entities for its corresponding Real-I in terms of the individual's experience, behavior, and thinking as well as his or her birth, growth, and death. In this study, we concentrate on the personal data analytics to facilitate the cyber individual modeling. Organic Stream is introduced to systematically organize and refine the personal stream data, which can help improve the data processing and management in the CI-Spine tier and CI-Pivot tier of Cyber-I. The DSUN (Dynamically Socialized User Networking) model is employed to better utilize the collective intelligence from a group of users, which can help improve the CI-Mind tier to make Cyber-I to become more robust. Based on these, we discuss the functional modules for the facilitation of cyber individual modeling. Finally, a scenario is given, and the experimental results are presented to demonstrate that the valuable outcomes from the personal analysis can be utilized to enrich the Cyber-I, and provide users with more suitable services.

Abstract:Cyber-Individual (Cyber-I) is the digital counterpart of an individual in the real world, which aims at systematically studying and developing comprehensive individual human modeling and its associated applications. The ultimate goal of this research is to create a digital clone for each individual and to provide active desirable services. We present a part of our research work focusing on examining the basic system architecture and the birth process of Cyber-I from a security perspective. In this study, a customized honeypot is used to record multidimensional data Cyber-I is constructed for a corresponding invader. Further, assembling a Cyber-I with associated CI-Applications enables aninvader having more behaviors in the honeypot and provides a possible chance to prolong activities of the invader, which complements a loop mechanism to feed Cyber-I for its growth. The preliminary result in this paper reveals that appropriate authorization and controls are extremely necessary to prevent Cyber-I from being maliciously used and to ensure privacy of its real individual in building an open Cyber-I platform.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) computing paradigm and its variants, such as the Social Internet of Things (SIoT) and the Internet of People (IoP), have enabled the interconnection of billions of devices with existing computing systems like the social networking platforms. Such interconnection allows IoT applications to offer large-scale context-aware services. On the other hand, the pervasive integration of the IoT and the Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) have posed many new challenges on the cyber modeling of physical, social and thinking entities. After mapping all the basic elements that form the physical, social and thinking spaces, these elements will be represented in the cyberspace as cyber entities, which are the most elementary particles of the cyberspace. Cybermatics was proposed as a holistic field for the systematic study of cyber entities in the cyberspace and their functions, properties, and conjugations with entities in conventional spaces. In this paper, we emphasize the temporal parts, life cycle and inter-relations of the cyber entities. The potentials of endurance and perdurance cyber mapping are also discussed. Furthermore, a mapping model that incorporates the cyber entity evolution and temporal parts consistency is proposed and presented using a smart home as a use case scenario. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:With the progressive development of information and communication technologies, we are now forming a new world called hyperworld that is composed by the cyber world and the physical world with various digital explosions including data, connectivity, service and intelligence. Therefore, Cyber-I has been proposed, which is a real individual's counterpart in cyberspace, and is to create a unique, digital, comprehensive description for every individual person. As similar to our human, a Cyber-I once born should be able to grow. Therefore, a Cyber-I's model must be a dynamic one, and can be built successively by utilizing an increasing amount of personal data with adaptive methods. Namely, a growable Cyber-I model is necessary to achieve the adaptation for successive approximations to its corresponding real individual (Real-I). This paper presents our research and development of an adaptable system, called Cyber-I growth modeling system (CGMS). This research is mainly to (1) schedule a Cyber-I's growth according to data and time; (2) manage the quantity of raw data that is involved in a specific growth process; (3) generate the Cyber-I model data with appropriate growth forms, and (4) keep the update records of a Cyber-I model's growth process into a log file in personal database.

Abstract:Future health ecosystems demand the integration of emerging data technology with an increased focus on preventive medicine. Cybernetics extracts the full potential of data to serve the spectrum of health care, from acute to chronic problems. Building actionable cybernetic navigation tools can greatly empower optimal health decisions, especially by quantifying lifestyle and environmental data. This data to decisions transformation is powered by intuitive event analysis to offer the best semantic abstraction of dynamic living systems. Achieving the goal of preventive health systems in the cybernetic model occurs through the flow of several components. From personalized models we can predict health status using perpetual sensing and data streams. Given these predictions, we give precise recommendations to best suit the prediction for that individual. To enact these recommendations we use persuasive technology in order to deliver and execute targeted interventions.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming an attractive system paradigm, in which physical perceptions, cyber interactions, social correlations, and even cognitive thinking can be intertwined in the ubiquitous things’ interconnections. It realizes a perfect integration of a new cyber–physical–social–thinking (CPST) hyperspace, which has profound implications for the future IoT. In this article, a novel concept Cybermatics is put forward as a broader vision of the IoT (called hyper IoT) to address science and technology issues in the heterogeneous CPST hyperspace. This article covers a broaden research field and presents a preliminary study focusing on its three main features (i.e., interconnection, intelligence, and greenness). Concretely, interconnected Cybermatics refers to the variants of Internet of anything, such as physical objects, cyber services, social people, and human thinking; intelligent Cybermatics considers the cyber–physical–social–thinking computing to provide algorithmic support for system infrastructures; green Cybermatics addresses energy issues to ensure efficient communications and networking. Finally, open challenging science and technology issues are discussed in the field of Cybermatics.
iCPS-Car: An Intelligent Cyber-physical System for Smart Automobiles

Abstract:Automobiles are becoming increasingly important in our daily life. However, people usually need to cost lots of efforts and time to get their required services. On one hand, an automobile itself consists of many physical processes to achieve its traditional functionality, on the other hand, it is being integrated with more and more sensors and actuators, which makes it a typical cyber-physical system. In order to provide friendly and human-centric services for users, we proposed the Intelligent Cyber-Physical System for automobiles (iCPS-Car) for automobiles. iCPS-Car integrates people, cars and cyber spaces together and provides natural interaction manners, and personalized and continuous services. A prototype, along with several applications such as remote surveillance, gesture-based control, media migration, was built and evaluated to verify the efficiency of iCPS-Car. The prototype car has been exhibited on Beijing Auto 2012.

Abstract:Cyber-Individual (Cyber-I), is a counterpart of Real-Individual (Real-I) in cyberspace, namely, a unique, digital and comprehensive description for a real individual. A Cyber-I is to gradually approximate to its Real-I by continuously collecting, processing and utilizing Real-I's personal data. The personal data in terms of data types and data amount is continuously increasing due to widely use of smartphones, sensors, and other devices as well as software tools. Such personal data makes Cyber-I's growable model possible. This paper is mainly focused on describing the initialization and growth of Cyber-I model. That is, how is a Cyber-I model initialized with the basic data generated at the Cyber-I birth stage and how can it grow with continuously collected incoming personal data to approximate to its Real-I's states, behaviors and characteristics. In this paper, a system prototype for supporting the model initialization and growth is illustrated, and a case study for showing the growable modeling is given.

Abstract:Conceptual design plays an important role in a product development process. Significant development of technologies in the cyber-physical system (CPS) provides innovative approaches for product conceptual design. This paper proposes an architecture of CPS for conceptual design that realizes the acquisition of real-time physiological data from the physical world and the feedback of psychological states from the cyber world. As understanding and meeting the needs of customers have been recognized as significant aspects for conceptual design, an intelligent psycho-physiological approach that incorporates electroencephalogram (EEG) into the Kano model is adopted in this CPS for real-time customer needs analysis. The sample entropy (SampEn) extracted from EEG data is an endogenous neural indicator for customers' psychological states. A support vector machine using this SampEn as input is trained for classifying different categories of quality attributes defined in the Kano model. A case study is conducted to testify the feasibility of the approach proposed in this paper.

Abstract:The cyber part of the cyber physical system is designed to control the behavior of the physical part precisely and timely according to the requirements of the users,employing the cyber abilities such as computing,communicating and control technologies.Physical behavior is time-continuous and concurrent,while the cyber behavior is discrete.Such heterogeneous brings big challenges for the design of the cyber system.An accurate model is needed to capture the interaction requirement of the cyber part and the physical part.First,an architecture of the Abstract behavior entities of the CPS system was given and explained.Then an event-action behavior model was proposed and defined in detail.Finally,the effect of the behavior model in the development of cyber system was analyzed in the background of smart detecting vehicle system,and future research work was pointed out.

Abstract:A concept of Cyber-A(nima) is presented with its modelling, reasoning and applying approaches in this article. Cyber-A(nima) is dedicated to reflect the nature of an individual person (or any individual entity broadly) with inner humanity concepts. The inner humanity terms are constructed semantically to represent the person's humanity concepts in nature. The inner humanity instances are associated with and transformed from outward personal information, which are collected from user inputs, Internet resources, application systems, and portable equipment. Application-oriented and role-based user models are developed from Cyber-A(nima) to be humanized. The humanity-based user models have been used to innovate traditional filtering and reasoning approaches and algorithms to address the existing performance challenges such as cold start, data sparsity, and grey sheep. The approaches and algorithms are further applied in a number of applications to improve their performance. To verify the feasibility of the proposed Cyber-A(nima) concepts and techniques, a cyber-anima-based private cloud browser, a cyber-anima-centric application, an anima-desire-intention(ADI) recommender, a humanity-based search engine, and several cyber-anima-based recommenders for travel services, healthcare services, and educational services are presented as typical application models and examples.

Abstract:Brain-inspired cognitive systems (BCSs) are an emerging field of cybernetics, cognitive science, and system science. BCSs study not only the intelligence science foundations of artificial intelligence (AI) and cognitive systems, but also formal models of the brain embodied by computational intelligence. This article presents the brain and intelligence science foundations of BCS toward hybrid intelligent systems and the symbiotic intelligence of humanity. It explores the transdisciplinary theoretical foundations of system, brain, intelligence, knowledge, cybernetic, and cognitive sciences toward the next generation of knowledge processors beyond classic data processors for autonomous computing systems. A BCS provides an overarching platform for cognitive cybernetics, humanity, and systems to enable emerging hybrid societies shared by humans and intelligent machines.

Cyber-anthropology: a new study on human and technological co-evolution

Abstract:For the first time cyber-anthropology is defined as a concept and a new field of study aimed at the analysis of person's reciprocal relations with the computer-generated (CG) world evolved as a result of technological progress. In the cyber-era, simulated reality has come to the point of becoming a force that has the potential to transform the human race. Digital beings such as virtual and embodied agents, although not a part of the natural human habitat, have become necessary elements of people's surroundings and life conditions. As a theoretical construct, Cyber-anthropology is concerned with the merger of natural and artificial worlds mediated by the human imagination, as well as compatibility between people and digital life they have created. As an empirical study, Cyber-anthropology deals with the psychophysiology and psychophysics, semantic and semiotics of human engagement with computer-generated reality that is viewed as a Complex Interactive System. Personal competence as a crucial element of any cyber-system underlines the importance of psychological culture in artificial world exploration. A newly developed concept of Psychological Culture is viewed as an essential part of Cyber-anthropology while concentrating on the following core issues: (1) ethical questions, such as whether or not technological tools can be employed to solve human problems; (2) moral consequences of bringing cutting edge technology into our every day life; (3) studies of individual differences regarding psychological competence of technology users through effective vs. ineffective, independent vs. addictive, and active vs. passive dichotomies. Psychological Culture is defined as the study of a person's competence associated with the use of modern technology and individual acceptability of technological innovations. Several crucial dilemmas arise when a human being is engaged in a simulated environment, and artificial agents inhabit a human world. The ultimate goal of Psychological Culture is to provide people with the knowledge necessary for adequate recognition of scientific innovations to overcome obstacles in the process of implementing technology to enhance human well being.

Abstract:The brain-computer interface (BCI) system serves as a critical link between external output devices and the human brain. A monitored object's mental state, sensory cognition, and even higher cognition are reflected in its electroencephalography (EEG) signal. Nevertheless, unprocessed EEG signals are frequently contaminated with a variety of artifacts, rendering the analysis and elimination of impurities from the collected EEG data exceedingly challenging, not to mention the manual adjustment thereof. Over the last few decades, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has contributed to the development of BCI technology. Algorithms derived from AI and machine learning have significantly enhanced the ability to analyze and process EEG electrical signals, thereby expanding the range of potential interactions between the human brain and computers. As a result, the present BCI technology with the help of AI can assist physicians in gaining a more comprehensive understanding of their patients' physical and psychological status, thereby contributing to improvements in their health and quality of life.

Abstract:The combination of biological and artificial intelligence is a promising methodology to construct a novel intelligent modality, proposed as cyborg intelligence. The hierarchical conceptual framework is based on the interaction and combination of comparable components of biological cognitive units and computing intelligent units. The authors extend the previous conceptual framework and focus on sensorimotor circuits to explore the representation and integration of sensation. They then present a cognitive computing model for brain-computer integration and design efficient machine-learning algorithms for neural signal decoding. They also propose biological reconstruction methods for sensorimotor circuits to not only restore but enhance functionalities with AI. They develop a series of demonstrating systems to validate the conceptual framework of cyborg intelligence and possibly herald bright prospects and high values in diversified aspects of theoretical research, engineering techniques, and clinical applications. Finally, the authors summarize the latest research trends and challenges, which they believe will further boost new scientific frontiers in cyborg intelligence.

Abstract:Cyber culture of virtual-macro-micro-computing, which formulates, explains and predicts the current processes and phenomena monitoring and control technology in the physical and virtual space is proposed. The verbal and structural definitions of the main types of computing, based on current trends evolution of planet cyber ecosystem are represented. The universal model of MAT-computing: <Memory, Address, Transactions>, which leverages three components to create a computational structure in technologically acceptable matter environment is proposed. The info-quantum direction of human expansion into space and the possibility of a similar penetration unearthly biotech objects in the ecosystem of our planet is shown. Computing model, which defines the structure of quasi-optimal digital monitoring and cloud control of scalable technical, biological, social and virtual processes is proposed.

Abstract:In the recent years, brain science has achieved great progresses with assistance of new emerging online technologies of measuring brain functions and activities. Particularly the information technology is playing a critical role in the brain research. In this paper, we discuss the integration of the brain and machines with the three perspectives: information, system, and intelligence. From the information processing perspective, the brain-machine-integrated system will be bi-directed and close-looped; from the system perspective, it will be hierarchical and multi-scale; from the intelligence perspective, it will be deep integration of biological and machine intelligence. The emerging complex brain-in-loop system will give a good opportunity for not only the neuroscience community but also the information technology community.
