Abstract:We are pleased to present a special issue of Data Science and Engineering (DSE), which contains a collection of four extended papers from the APWeb-WAIM 2019 conference.Besides these four special issue papers, this DSE issue also has one survey paper and one regular research paper.APWeb-WAIM conferences focus on research, development, and applications in relation to Web information management, including a wide range of topics, such as text analysis, graph data processing, social networks, recommender systems, information retrieval, data streams, knowledge graph, data mining and application, query processing, machine learning, database and Web applications, big data, and blockchain.APWeb-WAIM 2019 was held in Chengdu during August 1-3, 2019, and attracted a total of 180 research paper submissions.The conference program committee selected 42 full research papers, 17 short papers, and 6 demonstration papers to be presented at the conference and published in the conference proceedings [1,2].

Abstract:It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 2nd ACM Workshop on Social Web Search & Mining -- SWSM'09. This year's workshop continues its tradition of being the premier forum for presentation of research results and experience reports on leading edge issues of searching and mining of the social web and social networks. The scope of the workshop includes, but not limited to web mining, social network analysis, semantic web, information retrieval, and natural language processing. Moreover, SWSM'09 plans to provide with delegates theoretical analyses as well as practical system perspectives on issues related to web search and mining. The call for papers attracted 17 submissions from Asia, Europe, and the United States. The program committee accepted 8 full papers and 1 short paper that cover a variety of topics, including social network modeling and analysis, social influence analysis, influence analysis, and semantic social network. In addition, the program a keynote speech by Dr. Ravi Kumar from Yahoo! Research. We hope that these proceedings will serve as a valuable reference to further the research in social network search and mining.

Abstract:Data mining has emerged as one of the most dynamic and lively areas in IT research and development. Many data mining techniques and algorithms have been used in a diversity of application areas in banking, finance, medicine, education, business, and marketing analysis, etc. They have been found to be able to effectively discover meaningful patterns in large volumes of data in these application areas, and these achievements are due directly and indirectly to the results of many years of effort in the R&D of new data mining methodologies, new processes in knowledge discovery, new theory on data mining foundations and new insights into the use of data mining techniques in emerging domains. By promoting novel, high-quality research and by developing innovative solutions to challenging real-world problems, we expect data mining to continue to advance and create a big impact in the world. It is this belief that prompted us to organize a two-day IEEEDataMining Forum in May, 2008 at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom, Hong Kong. For the Forum, we invited a select number of the world’s leading experts in data mining from North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia to give invited talks and participate in panel discussions. The forum was attended by academics and practitioners alike and the presentations on original, cutting-edge, and state-of-the-art progress in data mining have provided insights for the audience and the speakers to further advance the area. This special issue grows out of the presentations at the Forum. Some speakers were invited to submit a paper on the topic they presented. After a careful review process, four papers were finally selected. They cover the research areas in peer-to-peer networks, optimization-based data mining, graph clustering, and semi-supervised learning. Abstract:This proceedings is the published record of the Thirteenth ACM SIGKDD International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD-07) held in San Jose, California on August 12--15, 2007. The KDD-07 conference provides a forum for novel research results and important applications in the area of data mining and knowledge discovery. The vibrancy, excitement and breadth of the field are reflected by the strong lineup of research papers, invited talks, tutorials and workshops at the conference. KDD-07 received a record number of 513 Research Track submissions from 36 different countries. From these, the program committee accepted 92 papers for oral presentation at the conference. This year all accepted research-track papers are full papers that are giving both oral and poster presentations. KDD-07 also received 60 Industrial and Governmental Track submissions from 16 different countries. Of these, the Industry Track program committee accepted 11 regular papers and 8 short papers for presentation at the conference. As with the Research Track, all accepted Industrial and Governmental Track papers are giving both oral and poster presentations. In addition to the paper presentations, the conference also featured seven tutorials, twelve workshops, one panel, several Birds-of-a-Feather sessions (a new feature this year), the KDD-Cup Competition, a demo session, and invited talks by Chris Anderson (Wired Magazine), Usama Fayyad (Yahoo!), and Jon Kleinberg (Cornell). The Industrial and Government Applications track included invited presentations by Joshua Goodman (Microsoft) and Bharat Rao (Siemens).

Abstract:Data-enabled smart transportation has attracted a surge of interest from machine learning and data mining researchers nowadays due to the bloom of online ride-hailing industry and rapid development of autonomous driving. Large-scale high quality route data and trading data (spatiotemporal data) have been generated every day, which makes AI an urgent need and preferred solution for the decision making in intelligent transportation systems. While a large of amount of work have been dedicated to traditional transportation problems, they are far from satisfactory for the rising need. We propose a half-day workshop at CIKM 2019 for the professionals, researchers, and practitioners who are interested in mining and understanding big and heterogeneous data generated in transportation, and AI applications to improve the transportation system. We plan to have several invited talks from both academia and industry. This workshop would be organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Didi Chuxing and Pennsylvania State University.

Abstract:KDD AIDSH 2024 aims to foster discussions and developments that push the boundaries of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science (DS) in healthcare, enhance diagnostic accuracy and promote human-centric approaches to healthcare, thus stimulating future interdisciplinary collaborations. This year's symposium will focus on expanding the application of AI/DS in healthcare/medicine and bridging existing gaps. The workshop invites submissions of full papers as well as work-in-progress on the application of AI/DS in healthcare. The workshop will feature three invited talks from eminent speakers, spanning academia, industry, and clinical researchers. Abstract:We are delighted to welcome you to the 8th ACM International Conference on Web Search and Data Mining (WSDM 2015), held in Shanghai, China, from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, 2015. As in the previous years, WSDM continues to be a leading forum for reporting the latest research developments in the field. We are pleased to present here the proceedings of the conference. We received a total of 238 submissions, out of which 39 were accepted for publication in the proceedings, thus reaching an acceptance rate of 16.4% (compared to 18% last year). The accepted papers are from 44 institutions in 16 countries, making WSDM a truly international forum. This year, oral presentation slots were allocated to all papers. Yet, in order to maintain the single track model that most attendees prefer, we introduced this year short 10-minute presentations. Out of the 39 accepted papers, 18 were assigned such shorter slots, while 21 were assigned longer 20-minute slots. The type of slot was chosen by the Senior PC members and Program Chairs, based on whether the topic and the content of the paper would appeal to a broad group of conference attendees. In addition to oral presentations, authors of all accepted papers were invited to present their work in an interactive poster session. We would like to acknowledge the tremendous work of the 28 Senior Program Committee members, 220 Program Committee members, and 41 additional reviewers. The credit for creating a high quality technical program goes to them. To recognize the hard work of the best reviewers, which rarely makes it to the public limelight, this year we created Outstanding Reviewer Awards. 3 members of the Senior Program Committee and 27 members of the Program Committee received these awards. The technical program this year featured keynotes by prominent researchers from the industry and academia, Lada Adamic (Facebook), Michael Franklin (UC Berkeley), and Thorsten Joachims (Cornell University). We thank the keynote speakers for their illuminating talks and for sharing their insights and wisdom with the conference attendees. The program also featured 5 Practice & Experience talks, which were introduced for the first time at WSDM'14. These were presented by Tushar Chandra (Google), Rong Jin (Baidu), Jure Leskovec (Stanford), Kaihua Zhu (Baidu), and Juchao Zhuo (Tencent). We thank the P&E speakers for taking the time off their busy schedules to attend the conference and share their experience in applying recent research results in industrial settings.

Abstract:The papers in this special section examines the deployment of Big Data and artificial intelligence for network technologies. The eneration of huge amounts of data, called big data, is creating the need for efficient tools to manage those data. Artificial intelligence (AI) has become the powerful tool in dealing with big data with recent breakthroughs at multiple fronts in machine learning, including deep learning. Meanwhile, information networks are becoming larger and more complicated, generating a huge amount of runtime statistics data such as traffic load, resource usages. Abstract:I n many of today’s data-driven applications, the main theme seems to revolve around the effective and efficient use of ‘big data’ generated in modern processes/systems. This usually requires the involvement of various disciplines such as Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics. The term data mining is often used to describe in general the analysis efforts of large data sets and has attracted enormous interest in multiple research fields in recent years. The knowledge generated through data mining has benefited a variety of application domains. This special issue of QREI provides a collection of recent research efforts in this area. We are very grateful for the contributions of the authors who submitted their work for this special issue. After two rounds of rigorous reviews, eight papers are accepted for publication. The application domains include engineering, health care, mobile networks, and finance. Motivated by an ingot growth process in semiconductor manufacturing, the paper by Dai et al. proposes a method to monitor growth profile trajectories of unequal lengths. The paper by Zhang et al. proposes a method to estimate the remaining useful life for engineering systems with high fluctuating degradation. The paper by Zeng and Peterson develops models to mine telephone nurse triage data. These models reveal the variation in the accessibility of the triage service and the effect of weekday/weekend, which provide significant information for performance assessment and improvement of the service. Duan et al. present a semisupervised learning method to integrate low-accuracy and high-accuracy mobile device location data. The paper by Li et al. proposes an L1-regularized support vector machine and applies it to the modeling of financial early warning systems. Phaladiganon et al. propose a support vector data description method, in which the boundary constructed for differentiating novel from normal patterns considers both shape and dense region of the data. Han and Clemmensen propose a double weighted support vector regression in which one weight is added to the slack variables in the objective function and another weight to the slack variables in the constraints. This approach is shown to be able to describe the relative importance of observations and lower the influence of possible outliners. The paper by Smith et al. studies how to improve statistical process control methods for understanding and visualizing process variation in data-rich environment and creates a quality visualization toolkit for practitioners. Abstract:The goal of the Eighth Workshop on Information Integration on the Web (IIWeb 2012), held in conjunction with SIGMOD 2012 on May 20th, 2012 at Scottsdale, Arizona, USA was to bring together academic researchers and industry practitioners in Information Integration. This edition had a special focus on challenges brought out in integrating Social Media data with the more traditional data published on the Web. The workshop program consisted of two invited talks and eight presentations from authors of accepted papers, all focused in the area of gathering, combining and analyzing social media and web data for gaining business insights. The eight papers were picked after a peer review process. The workshop attracted about 30 registered delegates of SIGMOD 2012.

Abstract:It\u0027s our pleasure to welcome you to WSDM, the 10th annual ACM International Conference on Web Search and Data Mining, held in Cambridge, UK. WSDM is one of the premier conferences on web inspired research involving search and data mining. We are pleased to present here the proceedings of the conference. The program reflects the breadth and diversity of research in the field and showcases the latest developments in the field.The conference received a total of 505 submissions, which is 30% higher than any previous WSDM conference. The submitted papers cover the research of 1796 authors across 50 countries. Of these, 80 were accepted for publication.\r\n\r\nWSDM has historically used a two-tier single-blind review process. This year, we applied this same procedure, but we also experimented with double-blind reviews in some cases. We will present analysis of the data from this experiment before the conference itself.\r\n\r\nIn the first stage of reviewing, four Program Committee members were assigned to each paper. In 90% of cases, all four reviews were completed; in 10% of cases, only three reviews were completed. The PC members provided ratings and comments while evaluating the papers according to the standard criteria of relevance, quality, reproducibility, clarity, and impact. This resulted in the collection of 1963 reviews. In the second stage, every paper was assigned to a Senior PC member. The SPC member was tasked to oversee a discussion amongst the reviewers and attempt to reach a consensus recommendation for the paper. The final decisions were based on all of the above. Ultimately 80 papers were selected for inclusion in the program. We owe a debt of gratitude to the 42 Senior PC members and the 242 PC members who participated in this process.\r\n\r\nThe WSDM 2017 acceptance rate of around 16% is 1-2% lower than previous years, but the number of submitted papers is 30% higher. This year, continuing with WSDM tradition, single-track oral presentation slots were allocated to all 80 accepted papers. Out of the 80 papers, 24 were assigned long presentation slots and 56 were assigned short presentation slots. This assignment was based on the topic and results in each paper, with the Program Chairs assigning long slots to papers more likely to appeal to a broader audience. In addition to the oral presentations, all papers will be presented as posters in interactive sessions.\r\n\r\nThe technical program this year features keynotes by prominent researchers from academia and industry: Ricardo Baeza-Yates (NTENT, USA; UPF, Spain; and U. de Chile), Claire Cardie (Cornell University), and Steve Young (Cambridge University). The program also features four invited Practice and Experience talks, which were introduced for the first time at WSDM 2014: Andrew Blake (Alan Turing Institute), Ralf Herbrich (Amazon), Anjali Joshi (Google) and Jan Pedersen (Microsoft). Abstract:To react to the drastic developments in Big Data, the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (IEEE CIS) has taken several measures, including setting up the First IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence in Big Data, which is going to be held within the SSCI 2014 in December 2014 in Florida, USA, and revising the name of the Technical Committee on Data Mining to expand its scope to cover Big Data Analytics. This special issue of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine is one in a series of reactions of the IEEE CIS to the boom in Big Data Analytics research that aims to publish selected research articles presenting most recent advances and discussing challenges and opportunities in the application of CI techniques to Big Data. After a peer-review procedure, two papers have been selected from 12 manuscripts submitted to the Special Issue to be present in this Special Issue, representing the highest quality work on CI techniques in understanding Big Data challenges. Both papers are briefly summarized. Both papers are of review nature discussing the opportunities and promises of CI techniques along with challenges. They have raised more questions than answers, which is actually the aim of this Special Issue to trigger a wider range of interests in the CI community.
