Abstract:In this presented note, triangular norms are studied in the general setting of bounded partially ordered sets(posets). The sets of idempotent elements, zero divisors and nilpotent elements associated to a t-norm are introduced and related to each other. The Archimedean of t-norms is discussed, in particular its relationship to the diagonal inequality.

Abstract:The article studies a generalization of the classical Fermat-Torricelli problem to normed spaces of arbitrary finite dimension. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the uniqueness of the solution of the Fermat-Torricelli problem for any n points in a fixed space are obtained, and more precise conditions for normed planes and three-dimensional spaces are presented. In addition, examples of the application of the criterion in the norms given by regular polyhedra are given.

Abstract:There are many arguments for counting with more than two "truth values"; this allows to imitate human reasoning of facts which are not binary. For theoretical reasons, it is natural to use the whole real interval as the scale. However, this brings practical problems: it is difficult, and even impossible, to represent exact values. Often only a small scale of values suffices to express what we need. Therefore, finite chains are frequently used as domains of fuzzy logical operations. Their representation and manipulation are easy. In this paper, we focus on triangular norms (t-norms). The choice of a finite domain admits some operations (Gödel, Łukasiewicz), while it excludes others (all strict ones, including the product). A disadvantage of the Gödel (minimum) t-norm is that repetition of arguments does not change their meaning. This is often desirable to emphasize the statement. ("Words, words, words!") Thus we do not consider the Gödel operations sufficient for representation of all fuzzy logical statements in human reasoning. Together with them, we discard all operations with idempotent elements other than 0, 1, thus we restrict attention to Archimedean t-norms (and t-conorms as their duals, not treated explicitly in the sequel). A disadvantage of many Archimedean t-norms is that, when applied to several arguments, the result is very often zero. Then, it gives no clue in comparing the outcomes, e.g., in giving priorities to alternatives evaluated by fuzzy rules. For instance, when the continuous Łukasiewicz t-norm is applied to 5 entries, it is nonzero only on 1/5!=1/120 of the volume of its 5-dimensional domain; in its discrete versions, nonzero results are even more rare. Thus we are interested in Archimedean t-norms with values "as large as possible", here in the maximal Archimedean t-norms (=those which are not majorized by other Archimedean t-norms). It was shown in previous works that there is an abundance of discrete t-norms; their number grows fast with the number of elements of the underlying chain (no exponential bound seems to be known). There is also an abundance of Archimedean t-norms. In contrast to that, when we counted the number of maximal Archimedean t-norms, it grows asymptotically exponentially with a mild base. What is more interesting, these numbers follow the Fibonacci sequence. We have found a description of maximal Archimedean t-norms and explained also the processes behind their construction and the role of the Fibonacci sequence. These results link the t-norms to a construction using a kind of additive generators, although this could not be used without modifications. We do not describe all Archimedean t-norms and their numbers, but we have completed at least a significant step towards this goal, too.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the notion of pseudo-triangular norm (pseudo-t-norm, for short) as a classes of weakly associative operations on trellises and as a generalization of triangular norm (t-norm, for short) on bounded trellises and we investigate their various properties and present some constructions of pseudo-t-norms on bounded trellises. Also, we study the T-distributivity on bounded trellises. Moreover, we show the relationship among pseudo-t-norms and isomorphisms on bounded trellises, which are more complicated in absence of the property of (transitivity) associativity of the trellis meet and join operations.

Abstract:The construction of uninorms on bounded lattices has been a attractive research area. In this paper, we introduce some new classes of uninorms on bounded lattices via t-subnorms and t-subconorms with a neutral element e under some constraints. We also give some illustrative examples to help understand the structure of these new uninorms. Moreover, we provide an answer to the open problem raised by <a class="workspace-trigger" href="#br0070">[7]</a>. Finally, the differences between our methods and existing approaches are assessed.

For $E, F \in \mathfrak{B}(X)$ we set $\lambda_{EF} = \inf \{\|z - x\| : x \in E, z \in F \}$. Let $\mathfrak{D}$ denote the closure (under the maximum distance) of the set of all $(E, F) \in \mathfrak{B}(X) \times \mathfrak{B}(X)$ such that $\lambda_{EF} \gt 0$. It is proved that the set of all $(E, F) \in \mathfrak{D}$ for which the minimization problem $\min_{x \in E, z\in F}\|x - z\|$ fails to be well posed in a $\sigma$-porous subset of $\mathfrak{D}$.

Abstract:The frequency-dependent attenuation typically obeys an empirical power law with an exponent ranging from 0 to 2. The standard time-domain partial differential equation models can describe merely two extreme cases of frequency independent and frequency-squared dependent attenuations. The otherwise non-zeor and non-square frequency dependency occuring in many cases of practical interest is thus often called the anomalous attenuation. In this study, we developed a linear integro-differential equation wave model for the anomalous attenuation by using the space fractional Laplacian operation, and the strategy is then extended to the nonlinear Burgers, KZK, and Westervelt equations. A new definition of the fractional Laplacian is also introduced which naturally includes the boundary conditions and has inherent regularization to ease the hyper-singularity in the conventional fractional Laplacian. Under the Szabo's smallness approximation where attenuation is assumed to be much smaller than the wave number, our linear model is found consistent with arbitrary frequency dependencies. According to the fact that the physical attenuation can be understood a statistic process, the empirical range [0,2] of the power law exponent is explained via the Levy stable distribution theory. It is noted that the power law attentuation underlies fractal microstructures of anomalously attenuative media.

Zarankiewicz's problem via $ε$-t-nets

Abstract:The classical Zarankiewicz's problem asks for the maximum number of edges in a bipartite graph on $n$ vertices which does not contain the complete bipartite graph $K_{t,t}$. In one of the cornerstones of extremal graph theory, Kővári Sós and Turán proved an upper bound of $O(n^{2-\frac{1}{t}})$. In a celebrated result, Fox et al. obtained an improved bound of $O(n^{2-\frac{1}{d}})$ for graphs of VC-dimension $d$ (where $d<t$). Basit, Chernikov, Starchenko, Tao and Tran improved the bound for the case of semilinear graphs. At SODA'23, Chan and Har-Peled further improved Basit et al.'s bounds and presented (quasi-)linear upper bounds for several classes of geometrically-defined incidence graphs, including a bound of $O(n \log \log n)$ for the incidence graph of points and pseudo-discs in the plane. In this paper we present a new approach to Zarankiewicz's problem, via $\epsilon$-t-nets - a recently introduced generalization of the classical notion of $\epsilon$-nets. We show that the existence of `small'-sized $\epsilon$-t-nets implies upper bounds for Zarankiewicz's problem. Using the new approach, we obtain a sharp bound of $O(n)$ for the intersection graph of two families of pseudo-discs, thus both improving and generalizing the result of Chan and Har-Peled from incidence graphs to intersection graphs. We also obtain a short proof of the $O(n^{2-\frac{1}{d}})$ bound of Fox et al., and show improved bounds for several other classes of geometric intersection graphs, including a sharp $O(n\frac{\log n}{\log \log n})$ bound for the intersection graph of two families of axis-parallel rectangles.

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to solve the problem proposed by Çaylı about uninorms on bounded lattices and build close relationships among uninorms constructed in this paper. Based on the known construction methods and researchers' work, we obtain new uninorms on L with the given t-norm and t-conorm by using closure (interior) operators. The new construction methods provide answers to the problem presented by Çaylı. All classes of uninorms constructed via closure (interior) operators in this paper can be closely connected in a quadruple from the views of the logics of finite observations.

Abstract:This paper mainly focuses on new methods of constructing triangular norms as well as triangular conorms on a bounded lattice. At first, we propose the definition of a partition element and show that the definition is well-defined. Then, we construct a t-norm (t-conorm) on a bounded lattice with the help of an interior (a closure) operator and a given t-subnorm (t-subconorm). For the sake of clarity, we give some interpretive examples of the new methods and show that the conditions restricting the elements are indispensable in the construction process. Moreover, we discuss the relationships among the construction methods proposed in this paper and the methods that already exist. Finally, we generalize the new construction methods to modified ordinal sum methods by iteration.
A note on the Huijsmans-de Pagter problem on finite dimensional ordered vector spaces

Abstract:A classical problem posed in 1992 by Huijsmans and de Pagter asks whether, for every positive operator $T$ on a Banach lattice with spectrum $\sigma(T) = \{1\}$, the inequality $T \ge \operatorname{id}$ holds true. While the problem remains unsolved in its entirety, a positive solution is known in finite dimensions. In the broader context of ordered Banach spaces, Drnovšek provided an infinite-dimensional counterexample. In this note, we demonstrate the existence of finite-dimensional counterexamples, specifically on the ice cream cone and on a polyhedral cone in $\mathbb{R}^3$. On the other hand, taking inspiration from the notion of $m$-isometries, we establish that each counterexample must contain a Jordan block of size at least $3$.

Abstract:This paper gives a combinatorial proof of a ''yes'' answer to an open question presented in [1], stated as follows: ''given a multilinear polynomial E(x): [0, 1](n) --> R, is it true that E-b(x) = E(x) - b(t)z has a strict local minimum over the discrete set {0,1}(n) for almost all b of sufficiently small norm?'' The given combinatorial proof is completed directly by providing a sufficient condition for a conjecture on the strict local minima of multilinear polynomials also postulated in [1] to hold. In addition, a simple counterexample is presented to demonstrate that the conjecture may be not true if the provided sufficient condition is not satisfied.

The results cover those on the total least square problem, and those of Huang and Yan on the existence of (E, F) is an element of P(A, B) so that [E\F] has the smallest spectral norm.

Abstract:In this study, we show some construction methods to obtain a semi-t-operator from a given pseudo-t-conorm and pseudo-t-norm on bounded lattices. Using these methods, we prove that the known methods of constructing semi-t-operators on bounded lattices proposed by Fang and Hu are incorrect, and present the correct forms at the same time. Furthermore, some other construction methods for semi-t-operators on bounded lattices are also added.
