Abstract:For a normed linear space $(X,|\cdot|)$ and $p>0$ we characterize all $n$-tuples $(\mu_1,...,\mu_n)\in\mathbb{R}^{n}$ for which the generalized triangle inequality of the second type $$\|x_1+...+x_n\|^p\leq\frac{|x_1|^p}{\mu_1}+...+\frac{|x_n|^p}{\mu_n}$$ holds for any $x_1,...,x_n\in X$. We also characterize $(\mu_1,...,\mu_n)\in\mathbb{R}^{n}$ for which the reverse of the inequality above holds.

Abstract:In this paper, some refinements of norm equalities and inequalities of combination of two orthogonal projections are established. We use certain norm inequalities for positive contraction operator to establish norm inequalities for combination of orthogonal projections on a Hilbert space. Furthermore, we give necessary and sufficient conditions under which the norm of the above combination of orthogonal pro jections attains its optimal value.

Abstract:For an inequality system defined by an infinite family of proper lower semicontinuous convex functions in normed linear space, we consider the Farkas-Minkowski (FM for short) type qualification and the basic constraint qualification (BCQ for short). By employing a new approach based on some new results established here on the SECQ (sum of epigraphs constraint qualification) for families of closed convex sets, some sufficient conditions involving further relaxing Slater type conditions for ensuring the FM qualification are provided. As applications, new sufficient conditions for ensuring the BCQ are given. These results significantly improve the corresponding ones in [C. Li and K. F. Ng, SIAM T. Optim., 15 (2005), pp. 488-512] and [C. Li, X. P. Zhao, and Y. H. Hu, SIAM J. Optim., 23 (2013), pp. 2208-2230], and they are obtained without the key continuity assumption on the sup-function of the inequality system which the previous works depend heavily on. Some examples are also presented to illustrate the applicability of our results.

Abstract:Several unitarily invariant norm inequalities and numerical radius inequalities for Hilbert space operators are studied. We investigate some necessary and sufficient conditions for the parallelism of two bounded operators. For a finite rank operator $A,$ it is shown that \begin{eqnarray*} \|A\|_{p} &\leq &\left(\textit{rank} \, A\right)^{1/{2p}} \|A\|_{2p} \,\, \leq \,\, \left(\textit{rank} \, A\right)^{{(2p-1)}/{2p^2}} \|A\|_{2p^2}, \quad \textit{for all $p\geq 1 $} \end{eqnarray*} where $\|\cdot\|_p$ is the Schatten $p$-norm. If $\{ \lambda_n(A) \}$ is a listing of all non-zero eigenvalues (with multiplicity) of a compact operator $A$, then we show that \begin{eqnarray*} \sum_{n} \left|\lambda_n(A)\right|^{p} &\leq& \frac12 \| A\|_{ p}^{ p} + \frac12 \| A^2\|_{p/2}^{p/2}, \quad \textit{for all $p\geq 2$} \end{eqnarray*} which improves the classical Weyl's inequality $\sum_{n} \left|\lambda_n(A)\right|^{p} \leq \| A\|_{ p}^{ p}$ [Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci. USA 1949]. For an $n\times n$ matrix $A$, we show that the function $p\to n^{-{1}/{p}}\|A\|_p$ is monotone increasing on $p\geq 1,$ complementing the well known decreasing nature of $p\to \|A\|_p.$ \indent As an application of these inequalities, we provide an upper bound for the sum of the absolute values of the zeros of a complex polynomial. As another application we provide a refined upper bound for the energy of a graph $G$, namely, $\mathcal{E}(G) \leq \sqrt{2m\left(\textit{rank Adj(G)} \right)},$ where $m$ is the number of edges, improving on a bound by McClelland in $1971$.

Abstract:A sharp inequality for $\ell_p$ quasi-norm with $0<p\leq 1$ and $\ell_q$-norm with $q>1$ is derived, which shows that the difference between $\|\textbf{\textit{x}}\|_p$ and $\|\textbf{\textit{x}}\|_q$ of an $n$-dimensional signal $\textbf{\textit{x}}$ is upper bounded by the difference between the maximum and minimum absolute value in $\textbf{\textit{x}}$. The inequality could be used to develop new $\ell_p$-minimization algorithms.

Abstract:In this article, we proved that a Schatten $ p $-(quasi)norm for $ 0 < p < 1 $, defined on Euclidean Jordan algebras, satisfied a relaxed triangle inequality with an optimal constant $ 2^{\frac{1}{p} - 1} $; hence, it indeed induced a quasinorm. This confirmed the validity of a conjecture raised by Huang, Chen, and Hu.

Abstract:Using the error bound results established in the present paper for approximate solutions, we study the stability issues when perturbed by possibly nonaffine smooth maps E for the abstract inequality system F >=(K) 0 defined by a (possible nonclosed) convex cone K and a Frechet differentiable function F satisfying the (extended) weak gamma-condition. We provide some sufficient conditions, in terms of the information at a solution x(0), for ensuring the lower semicontinuity and/or the Lipschitz-like continuity at x(0) of the solution mapping for the perturbed system F + E >=(K) 0 with smooth perturbation E. Explicit upper bounds of the Lipschitz-like moduli are also provided.
Schatten $p$-norm and numerical radius inequalities with applications

Abstract:We develop a new refinement of the Kato's inequality and using this refinement we obtain several upper bounds for the numerical radius of a bounded linear operator as well as the product of operators, which improve the well known existing bounds. Further, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the positivity of $2\times 2$ certain block matrices and using this condition we deduce an upper bound for the numerical radius involving a contraction operator. Furthermore, we study the Schatten $p$-norm inequalities for the sum of two $n\times n$ complex matrices via singular values and from the inequalities we obtain the $p$-numerical radius and the classical numerical radius bounds. We show that for every $p>0$, the $p$-numerical radius $w_p(\cdot): \mathcal{M}_n(\mathbb C)\to \mathbb R$ satisfies $ w_p(T) \leq \frac12 \sqrt{\left\| |T|^{2(1-t)}+|T^*|^{2(1-t)} \right\|^{} \, \big \||T|^{2t}+|T^*|^{2t} \big\|_{p/2}^{} } $ for all $t\in [0,1]$. Considering $p\to \infty$, we get a nice refinement of the well known classical numerical radius bound $w(T) \leq \sqrt{\frac12 \left\| T^*T+TT^* \right \|}.$ As an application of the Schatten $p$-norm inequalities we develop a bound for the energy of graph. We show that $ \mathcal{E}(G) \geq \frac{2m}{ \sqrt{ \max_{1\leq i \leq n} \left\{ \sum_{j, v_i \sim v_j}d_j\right\}} },$ where $\mathcal{E}(G)$ is the energy of a simple graph $G$ with $m$ edges and $n$ vertices $v_1,v_2,\ldots,v_n$ such that degree of $v_i$ is $d_i$ for each $i=1,2,\ldots,n.$

Abstract:For an inequality system defined by an infinite family of proper convex functions, we introduce some new notions of constraint qualifications in terms of the epigraphs of the conjugates of these functions and study relationships between these new constraint qualifications and other well-known constraint qualifications including the basic constraint qualification studied by Hiriart-Urrutty and Lemarechal and by Li, Nahak, and Singer. Extensions of known results to more general settings are presented, and applications to particular important problems, such as conic programming and approximation theory, are also studied.

Abstract:We consider conic inequality systems of the type$F(x)\ge_K 0$, with approximate solution $x_0$ associated to a parameter $\tau$,where $F$ is a twice Fréchet differentiable function between Hilbert spaces $X$ and $Y$, and$\ge_K$ is the partial order in $Y$ defined by anonempty convex (not necessarily closed) cone $K\subseteq Y$.We prove that, under the suitable conditions,the system $F(x)\ge_K 0$is solvable, and the ratio of the distance from $x_0$ to the solution set $S$ over the distance from $F(x_0)$ to the cone $K$ has anupper bound given explicitlyin terms of $\tau$ and $x_0$. We show that the upper bound is sharp.Applications to analytic function inequality/equality systems on Euclidean spaces are given,and the corresponding results of Dedieu [ SIAM J. Optim. , 11 (2000), pp. 411--425] are extended and significantly improved.

Abstract:Let be a family of open subsets of a topological space X equipped with a nonnegative Borel measure satisfying some basic properties. We establish sharp quantitative weighted norm inequalities for the Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator associated with in terms of mixed – constants. The main ingredient to prove this result is a sharp form of a weak reverse Hölder inequality for the weights. As an application of this inequality, we also provide a quantitative version of the open property for weights. Next, we prove a covering lemma in this setting and using this lemma establish the endpoint Fefferman–Stein weighted inequality for the maximal operator . Moreover, vector-valued extensions for maximal inequalities are also obtained in this context.

Abstract:We prove a set of inequalities that interpolate the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and the triangle inequality. Every nondecreasing, convex function with a concave derivative induces such an inequality. They hold in any metric space that satisfies a metric version of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, including all CAT(0) spaces and, in particular, all Euclidean spaces. Because these inequalities establish relations between the six distances of four points, we call them quadruple inequalities. In this context, we introduce the quadruple constant - a real number that quantifies the distortion of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality by a given function. Additionally, for inner product spaces, we prove an alternative, more symmetric version of the quadruple inequalities, which generalizes the parallelogram law.

Abstract:This paper studies a question of Bourin on noncommutative L(p )spaces. Some inequalities due to Hayajneh et al. [Norm inequalities for positive semidefinite matrices and a question of Bourin II. Int J Math. 2021;32:2150043] and Hayajneh et al. [Norm inequalities for positive semidefinite matrices and a question of Bourin III. Positivity. 2022;26:23] are extended to the case of operators in noncommutative L-p spaces associated with a semifinite von Neumann algebra. We give a partial answer to a question of Bourin on noncommutative L-p spaces. Some related submajorization inequalities are also given.

Abstract:We introduce a new norm (say -norm) on the space of all bounded linear operators defined on a normed linear space . We explore various properties of the -norm. In addition, we study several equalities and inequalities of the -norm of operators on As an application, we obtain an upper bound for the numerical radius of product of operators, which improves a well-known upper bound of the numerical radius for sectorial matrices. We present the -norm of operators by using the extreme points of the unit ball of the corresponding spaces. Furthermore, we define a geometric constant (say -index) associated with and study properties of the -index. In particular, we obtain the exact value of the -index for some polyhedral spaces and complex Hilbert space. Finally, we study the -index of -sum of normed linear spaces.

Abstract:This short note gives a proof of the triangle inequality based on the Kantorovich duality formula for the Wasserstein distances of exponent $p\in[1,+\infty)$ in the case of a general Polish space. In particular it avoids the "glueing of couplings" procedure used in most textbooks on optimal transport.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a new weak norm, iterated weak norm in Lebesgue spaces with mixed norms. We study properties of the mixed weak norm and the iterated weak norm and present the relationship between the two weak norms. Even for the ordinary Lebesgue spaces, the two weak norms are not equivalent and any one of them can not control the other one. We give some convergence and completeness results for both weak norms. We study the convergence in truncated norm, which is a substitution of the convergence in measure for mixed Lebesgue spaces. And we give a characterization of the convergence in truncated norm. We show that Hölder's inequality is not always true on mixed weak spaces and we give a complete characterization of indices which admit Hölder's inequality. As applications, we establish some geometric inequalities related to fractional integration in mixed weak spaces and in iterated weak spaces which essentially generalize the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality.

Abstract:We consider the geometric structure of quasi‐normed Calderón–Lozanovskiĭ spaces. First, we study relations between the quasi‐norm and the quasi‐modular "near zero" and "near one," which are fundamental for the theory. With their help, we provide a precise description of the basic monotonicity properties. In comparison with the well‐known normed case, we develop a number of new techniques and methods, among which the conditions Δε and Δ2−str play a crucial role. From our general results, we conclude the criteria for monotonicity properties in quasi‐normed Orlicz spaces, which are new even in this particular context. We consider both the function and the sequence case as well as we admit degenerated Orlicz functions, which provides us with a maximal class of spaces under consideration. We also discuss the applications of suitable properties to the best dominated approximation problems in quasi‐Banach lattices.
