Abstract:We first investigate the lower bound for higher eigenvalues λ _i of the Laplace operator on a bounded domain and obtain a sharp lower bound. Then, we extent this estimate of the eigenvalues to general cases. Finally, we study the eigenvalues Γ _i for the clamped plate problem and deliver a sharp bound for the clamped plate problem for arbitrary dimension.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the class of graphs Gm,n that have the same degree sequence as two disjoint cliques Km and Kn, as well as the class G ̄m,n of the complements of such graphs. The problems of finding a maximum clique and a maximum independent set are NP-hard on Gm,n. Therefore, looking for upper and lower bounds for the clique and independence numbers of such graphs is a challenging task. In this article, we obtain such bounds, as well as other related results. In particular, we consider the class of regular graphs, which are degree-equivalent to arbitrarily many identical cliques, as well as such graphs of bounded degree.

Abstract:In this paper, we demonstrate a useful interaction between the theory of clique partitions, edge clique covers of a graph, and the spectra of graphs. Using a clique partition and an edge clique cover of a graph we introduce the notion of a vertex-clique incidence matrix for a graph and produce new lower bounds for the negative eigenvalues and negative inertia of a graph. Moreover, utilizing these vertex-clique incidence matrices, we generalize several notions such as the signless Laplacian matrix, and develop bounds on the incidence energy and the signless Laplacian energy of the graph. %The tight upper bounds for the energies of a graph and its line graph are given. More generally, we also consider the set $S(G)$ of all real-valued symmetric matrices whose off-diagonal entries are nonzero precisely when the corresponding vertices of the graph are adjacent. An important parameter in this setting is $q(G)$, and is defined to be the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues over all matrices in $S(G)$. For a given graph $G$ the concept of a vertex-clique incidence matrix associated with an edge clique cover is applied to establish several classes of graphs with $q(G)=2$.

Abstract:Let G be a simple connected undirected graph. The Laplacian spectral ratio of G is defined as the quotient between the largest and second smallest Laplacian eigenvalues of G , which is an important parameter in graph theory and networks. We obtain some bounds of the Laplacian spectral ratio in terms of the number of the spanning trees and the sum of powers of the Laplacian eigenvalues. In addition, we study the extremal Laplacian spectral ratio among trees with n vertices, which improves some known results of Z. You and B. Liu (2012).

Abstract:Let G be a simple graph with n vertices, m edges, diameter D and degree sequence d(1), d(2), ..., d(n), and let lambda(1)(G) be the largest Laplacian eigenvalue of G. Denote Delta = max{d(i) : 1 <= i <= n}, ((alpha)t)(i) = Sigma(i similar to j) d(j)(alpha) and ((alpha)m)(i) = ((alpha)t)(i)/d(i)(alpha), where alpha is a real number. In this article, we first give an upper bound on lambda(1)(G) for a non-regular graph involving Delta and D; next present two upper bounds on lambda(1)(G) for a connected graph in terms of d(i) and ((alpha)m)(i); at last obtain a lower bound on lambda(1)(G) for a connected bipartite graph in terms of d(i) and ((alpha)t)(i). Some known results are shown to be the consequences of our theorems.

Abstract:In this paper we consider particular graphs defined by $\overline{\overline{\overline{K_{\alpha_1}}\cup K_{\alpha_2}}\cup\cdots \cup K_{\alpha_k}}$, where $k$ is even, $K_\alpha$ is a complete graph on $\alpha$ vertices, $\cup$ stands for the disjoint union and an overline denotes the complementary graph. These graphs do not contain the $4$-vertex path as an induced subgraph, i.e., they belong to the class of cographs. In addition, they are iteratively constructed from the generating sequence $(\alpha_1, \alpha_2, \ldots, \alpha_k)$. Our primary question is what invariants or graph properties can be deduced form a given sequence. In this context, we compute the Lapacian eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenspaces, and derive a lower and an upper bound for the number of distinct Laplacian eigenvalues. We also determine the graphs under consideration with a fixed number of vertices that either minimize or maximize the algebraic connectivity (that is the second smallest Laplacian eigenvalue). The clique number is computed in terms of a generating sequence and a relationship between it and the algebraic connectivity is established.

New graph invariants based on $p$-Laplacian eigenvalues

Abstract:We present monotonicity inequalities for certain functions involving eigenvalues of $p$-Laplacians on signed graphs with respect to $p$. Inspired by such monotonicity, we propose new spectrum-based graph invariants, called (variational) cut-off adjacency eigenvalues, that are relevant to certain eigenvector-dependent nonlinear eigenvalue problem. Using these invariants, we obtain new lower bounds for the $p$-Laplacian variational eigenvalues, essentially giving the state-of-the-art spectral asymptotics for these eigenvalues. Moreover, based on such invariants, we establish two inertia bounds regarding the cardinalities of a maximum independent set and a minimum edge cover, respectively. The first inertia bound enhances the classical Cvetković bound, and the second one implies that the $k$-th $p$-Laplacian variational eigenvalue is of the order $2^p$ as $p$ tends to infinity whenever $k$ is larger than the cardinality of a minimum edge cover of the underlying graph. We further discover an interesting connection between graph $p$-Laplacian eigenvalues and tensor eigenvalues and discuss applications of our invariants to spectral problems of tensors.

Abstract:The eigenvalues of the normalized Laplacian of a graph provide information on its topological and structural characteristics and also on some relevant dynamical aspects, specifically in relation to random walks. In this paper we determine the spectra of the normalized Laplacian of iterated triangulations of a generic simple connected graph. As an application, we also find closed-forms for their multiplicative degree-Kirchhoff index, Kemeny’s constant and number of spanning trees.

Abstract:Let G be a connected graph on n vertices with diameter d . It is known that if 2≤d≤n−2 , there are at most n−d Laplacian eigenvalues in the interval [n−d+2,n] . In this paper, we show that if 1≤d≤n−3 , there are at most n−d+1 Laplacian eigenvalues in the interval [n−d+1,n] . Moreover, we try to identify the connected graphs on n vertices with diameter d , where 2≤d≤n−3 , such that there are at most n−d Laplacian eigenvalues in the interval [n−d+1,n] .

Abstract:The exact distance $t$-power of a graph $G$, $G^{[\sharp t]}$, is a graph which has the same vertex set as $G$, with two vertices adjacent in $G^{[\sharp t]}$ if and only if they are at distance exactly $t$ in the original graph $G$. We study the clique number of this graph, also known as the $t$-equidistant number. We show that it is NP-hard to determine the $t$-equidistant number of a graph, and that in fact, it is NP-hard to approximate it within a constant factor. We also investigate how the $t$-equidistant number relates to another distance-based graph parameter; the $t$-independence number. In particular, we show how large the gap between both parameters can be. The hardness results motivate deriving eigenvalue bounds, which compare well against a known general bound. In addition, the tightness of the proposed eigenvalue bounds is studied.

Abstract:In this paper, we compute common neighbourhood Laplacian spectrum, common neighbourhood signless Laplacian spectrum and their respective energies of commuting graph of some finite non-abelian groups including some AC-groups, groups whose central quotients are isomorphic to $Sz(2)$, $\mathbb{Z}_p\times \mathbb{Z}_p$ or $D_{2m}$. Our findings lead us to conclude that these graphs are CNL (CNSL)-integral. Additionally, we characterize the aforementioned groups such that their commuting graphs are CNL (CNSL)-hyperenergetic.
