Abstract:In ubiquitous computing scenarios, there is urgent need for service infrastructure to provide effective service provision according to current context such as device capability, network status and user preference, etc. Our work focused on developing a context-aware service selection engine that can dynamically select appropriate services for end-users. To serve this purpose, we explored the traditional quality of service and proposed a metric named as "degree of service satisfaction", which is used to evaluate the impact of various context upon service selection. By employing first-order logic inference and fuzzy logic evaluation, we designed the service selection engine that can calculate the degree of service satisfaction and implement dynamic service evaluation and selection. We also exemplified the process of service selection to demonstrate the validation of our design.
A Self-Optimizing QoS-aware Service Composition Approach in a Context Sensitive Environment

Abstract:QoS-aware service composition is aimed to maximize the global QoS of a composite service when selecting candidate services. In a context sensitive service execution environment in pervasive computing, the context information for service composition is not static: device, policy, and user constraints, and QoS requirements may change, new services may be deployed, old ones withdrawn, or existing ones change their QoS parameters. This results in the current service composition plan failing or its QoS degrading from the optimum. In this paper, a runtime self-optimizing service composition framework is proposed. An implementation of a prototype for this framework is presented, addressing the issues of reducing extra delay while increasing global QoS in service composition in a dynamic context environment. Three service re-plan algorithms are compared that can be used in dynamic context environment, i.e., minimal-conflict hill-climbing repair genetic algorithm (MCHC-repair GA), an improved penalty-based GA, and our multi-population conflicts sorted repair genetic algorithm (MP-CS-repair GA), as well as three kinds of service composition mechanisms-with backup, without backup, and our context-aware service re-selection mechanisms. The results show that our MP-CS-repair GA and context-aware service re-selection method can reduce more extra delay while acquiring a higher global QoS for the composite service in a context sensitive environment. This context-aware service re-selection mechanism also shows some adaptability to different context change frequencies and user requirements for reducing computation cost in the self-optimizing process.

Abstract:Context-awareness has become a key issue in Human-Computer Interaction(HCI) to provide better user experience under multi-device and multi-modal environment. With this intuition, we have proposed a web service based framework, which associates interactions with services, and provided service selection mechanism using context knowledge to achieve smart interaction migration [1]. A fundamental problem of such a service-oriented framework for interaction migration is to design an effective while scalable algorithm for service selection. In this paper, we propose a service selection algorithm considering not only context information and user preferences but also inter-service relations such as relative location. Our algorithm detects interaction hot spots within user active scope and presents the best service combination based on evaluation of interaction effectiveness. We also conduct simulation and the results illustrate that our algorithm is effective and scalable for interaction service selection.

Abstract:Day after day, the number of mobile applications deployed on cloud computing continues in increasing because o f smartphone capabilities improvement. Cloud computing has already succeeded in the web based application, for that reason, the demand for context aware services provided by cloud computing increases. To customize a cloud service that takes into account th e consumer requirements, which depend on information change, it brings to light many recent challenges to cloud computing about environment aware, location aware, time aware. The cloud provider, moreover, has to manage personalized applications and the con straints of mobile devices in matters of interaction abilities and communication restrictions. This paper proposes a strategy for selecting automatically an appropriate cloud environment that runs out whole requirements, defines a configuration for the ass ociated cloud environment and able to easily adapt to the change of the environment on either the user or the cloud side or both. This process builds on the principles of dynamic software product lines, Agent oriented software engineering, and the MAPE k m odel to select and configure cloud environments according to the consumer needs and the context change.

Adaptive Service Selection Method in Mobile Cloud Computing

Abstract:Despite the rapid advances in mobile technology, many constraints still prevent mobile devices from running resource-demanding applications in mobile environments. Cloud computing with flexibility, stability and scalability enables access to unlimited resources for mobile devices, so more studies have focused on cloud computing-based mobile services. Due to the stability of wireless networks, changes of Quality of Service (QoS) level and user' real-time preferences, it is becoming challenging to determine how to adaptively choose the "appropriate" service in mobile cloud computing environments. In this paper, we present an adaptive service selection method. This method first extracts user preferences from a service's evaluation and calculates the similarity of the service with the weighted Euclidean distance. Then, they are combined with user context data and the most suitable service is recommended to the user. In addition, we apply the fuzzy cognitive maps-based model to the adaptive policy, which improves the efficiency and performance of the algorithm. Finally, the experiment and simulation demonstrate that our approach is effective.

Abstract:Context-awareness has been a key enabler for providing users with customized services in mobile commerce. Based on the three models, we propose a context-aware service reasoning mechanism framework. It is divided into 3 phases which are needs discovery, service looking-up and solution selecting. 1) needs discovery: system discovers user's needs, according to the current context of user; 2) service looking-up: system looks up relevant services type which can satisfy the user's needs; 3) solution selecting: system makes a cost-and-benefit analysis between candidates of each service type based on user model, context model and service model.

Abstract:Context plays an important role for making accurate recommendations in recommendation systems. There are three types of context: network location context, user context and demand context. However, current researches on service recommendation techniques fail to take into consideration all the context. This paper introduces the context-aware recommendation approach which integrates network location context, user context and demand context. An extensible meta-model is proposed in our system, thus the description of class property can be scalable. The consistent representation of service and user demand will provide convenience for service matching and service filtering. In order to ensure real-time update of service information, this paper puts forward three methods: spontaneous service updating, delayed service updating based on accessing, as well as delayed service updating periodically. For service recommendation, we proposed a combined method of three-level service filtering and collaborative recommendation.

Abstract:Because of the growing interest for mobile device and pervasive applications deployed on cloud computing, the providing of intelligent and ubiquitous context-aware applications that take into account the user's context is one of the main challenges in future applications. In this article we consider how to augment applications aware context used by mobiles device and deployed on cloud computing. The behavior of these applications should depend not only on their internal state and user interactions but also on the context sensed during their execution. Indeed, our approach based on two essential mechanisms, context sensoring and context reasoning. We consider the information acquired by the context sensoring as a product line and we use feature models to represent this information received, the services provided by cloud provider, the available resources and constraints. At the context reasoning step, the context provisioning feature model (CSCAFM) algorithm permits to generate service context-aware that fulfils the requirements of use ensures a certain level of performance of resources.

Abstract:In pervasive environments, the current service matchmaking is lack of context information with machine understandable and unable to deal with uncertainty of service properties, so it cannot achieve intelligent service discovery. This paper presents a fuzzy rough set theory based context-aware dynamic service matchmaking approach that composes an application through combining semantic information and context information. The proposed approach consists of formalized service description model with semantics and context attributes, and fuzzy rough set based service matchmaking. By describing the context attributes, the proposed approach is capable of composing context-aware application. Through a transformation technique, the incomplete information system is converted into a simpler system and then reducts are obtained from the transformed system based fuzzy rough set theory. Afterwards, the candidate service sets are selected by the function of the degree of keyword match and ranked through the function of the degree of service match. This paper describes the design and mechanism of the proposed approach. The proposed approach is expected to increase users' satisfaction in pervasive environments.

Abstract:With the rapid development of cloud computing technologies, there are increasing number of Web services deployed by service providers on cloud platforms. Invoking Web services is in the form of given orders, by which the end-user can process business and information in anytime and anyway. However, existing Web service compositions mainly focus on single Web services selection and neglect to consider the fact that complex services created and aggregated by service compositions might be low global QoS (Quality of service). In this paper, the importance and necessity to construct service clusters in business process are discussed. Then, how to build up a model to solve the optimal QoS problem of Web service composition using service clusters is proposed. Third, the dynamic programming algorithm is introduced to this model. Finally, a series of experiments are carried out to evaluate our method. The results show that service cluster has advantage to obtain composite service with best QoS for the end-user.

Abstract:Mobile business is now becoming into reality with the ubiquitous Internet connectivity, the powerful of mobile devices and the vast amount of available cloud services. However, the characteristics of mobile environment such as mobility, unpredictability and variation of the signal-strength of mobile network bring great challenges for the selection of optimal services for orchestration. Traditional Qos-aware methods selecting services with the best QoS may not always result in a best orchestration as the constant mobility makes the performance of service invocation unpredictable and location-based. This work-in-progress paper presents the challenges of this problem and defines the problem in a formal way. After that, it proposes a service selection approach based on negative selection algorithm to address this problem.

Abstract:Service is accepted as an effective way for mobile ad hoc communications and collaboration in ubiquitous computing environments. Although many effort have been devoted on the service discovery protocols, fewer works focus on the problem of service selection when the same service is provided by multiple mobile notes. However, the service selection result can greatly affect the system performance thus should be paid more attention. In this paper, we present an integrated service selection approach. Experiment results show that our approaches can achieve better overall result compared with the existing works.

Abstract:As the concept of merging the capabilities of mobile devices and cloud computing is becoming increasingly popular, an important question arises: how to optimally schedule services/tasks between the device and the cloud. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the possibilities for using a decision module on mobile devices in order to autonomously optimize the execution of services within the framework of Mobile Cloud Computing while taking context into account. A novel model of the decision module with learning capabilities, service-oriented architecture, and service selection optimization algorithm are proposed to solve this problem. To achieve autonomous, online learning on mobile devices, we apply supervised learning. Information about the context, task description, the decision made and its results such as calculation time or power consumption are stored and form training data for a supervised learning algorithm, which updates the knowledge used by the decision module to determine the optimal place for the execution of a given type of task. To verify the solution proposed, service-oriented mobile processing systems for multimedia file conversion have been developed and series of experiments have been executed. Results show that the decision module has become more efficient in assigning the task to either the mobile device or cloud resources.

A Context Aware Modeling Framework for Pervasive Applications

Abstract:It is a challenge to recommend Web services under multiple contexts. To address this challenge, we propose a context-aware collaborative filtering (CaCF) approach for service recommendation. Three types of contextual information, i.e. time, location and interest of user, are considered. In this approach, users' interests are extracted from service invocation records and represented as term-weight vectors. Neighbors are chosen according to the Cosine similarities of these vectors. Then, neighbors are filtered into close neighbors by location and time. At last, these close neighbors recommend service to a target user. We evaluate our method through comparing with other service recommendation approaches. The experimental results show that it achieves better precision and satisfaction rate than other two methods.

Abstract:Interaction migration system in multi-device and multimodal environment has recently been in the spotlight. Web-service based framework is raised to meet the requirements under such environment. In this paper, we propose a context-driven method of Human-Computer Interaction(HCI) service selection for web-service based interaction migration framework. We adopt service-oriented concept, which associates interactions with several services, and provide service selection mechanism to achieve interaction migration. Context-awareness is supported by collecting user and environment contexts and making proper reaction towards context change. Moreover, user history is utilized to form user preference which aids service selection process. We illustrate how our service selection method finds appropriate services in a typical smart home scenario.

Abstract:Based on the principles in context-aware computing, a framework was proposed which can utilize the large number of contexts which can be collected by the mobile devices and then integrated those contexts to a context integrated situation. This framework could make use of this context integrated situation as the basis to provide better services. This framework used the cloud computing technology to address the challenge brought by the scale of the contexts. MapReduce algorithm was used to aggregate context. The performance of the context aggregation by the cloud infrastructure compared with the performance of the aggregation by PC, which reaches a conclusion that the cloud computing has great advantages when there are a large scale of contexts.

Abstract:Due to the limited capabilities and resources, edge servers cannot meet the increasingly complex and diverse service requirements in mobile edge computing environments. In this circumstance, how to dispatch the component tasks of service requests to edge and cloud servers to reduce the time delay has become a crucial problem. Therefore, we focus on this problem and propose a heuristic algorithm called GAMEC (combined Genetic algorithm and simulated Annealing algorithm for service selection in Mobile Edge Computing systems). The simulated experiments have demonstrated the high effectiveness of the method.

Abstract:Driven by the development of the mobile Internet and the emergence of heterogeneous mobile devices, context-aware applications are attracting growing interest. Based on the idea of transparent computing, the authors propose a novel context-aware service provision (CASP) architecture to transparently and actively provide suitable services to clients. In this article, they present the system model and describe a series of key technologies in CASP, including the client parameter acquisition scheme, the user behavior analysis approach, the service choice algorithm, and the transmission optimization method. Based on the established architecture, they developed software and ran a performance evaluation, proving that CASP offers a good user experience and outstanding generality.
