Abstract:In this paper we study the absolute values of non-trivial eigenvalues of a distance-regular graph and find that these usually have large absolute value. We also give a motivation concerning a conjecture of Bannai and Ito.

Abstract:In this paper, we classify distance regular graphs such that all of its second largest local eigenvalues are at most one. Also we discuss the consequences for the smallest eigenvalue of a distance-regular graph. These extend a result by the first author, who classified the distance-regular graph with smallest eigenvalue $-1-\frac{b_1}{2}$.

Abstract:Let D(G) be the distance matrix of a connected graph G and Ai(D)≥ ?? ≥An(D) be the eigenvalues of D(G).The study of distance eigenvalues can be traced back to the work of Graham and Pollack [Bell Syst.Tech.J.,1971,50:2495-2519] in which they described a relationship between the number of negative distance eigenvalues and the addressing problem in data communication system.In 2014,Aouchiche and Hansen gave a survey [Linear Algebra Appl.,2014,458:301-386] on various properties of distance eigenvalues.In this paper,we report new progress on the distance eigenvalues of graphs from 2014 to 2020.

Abstract:Let G = (V,E) be a simple graph with vertex set V(G) = {v(1), v(2), . . . , v(n)} and edge set E(G). In this paper, first some sharp upper and lower bounds on the largest and least eigenvalues of graphs are given when vertices are removed. Some conjectures in [M. Aouchiche. Comparaison Automatisee dInvariants en Theorie des Graphes. Ph.D. Thesis, Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, February 2006.] and [M. Aouchiche, G. Caporossi, and P. Hansen. Variable neighborhood search for extremal graphs, 20. Automated comparison of graph invariants. MATCH Commun. Math. Comput. Chem., 58:365384, 2007.] involving the spectral radius, diameter and matching number are also proved. Furthermore, the extremal graph which attains the minimum least eigenvalue among all quasi-tree graphs is characterized.

Abstract:For a distance-regular graph of diameter three Γ, the statement that distance-3 graph Γ3 of Γ is strongly regular is equivalent to that Γ has eigenvalue −1. There are many distance-regular graphs of diameter 3 having eigenvalue −1, such as the folded 7-cube, generalized hexagons of order (s,s) and antipodal nonbipartite distance-regular graphs of diameter 3. In this paper, we show that for a fixed positive integer α (β, respectively), there are only finitely many distance-regular graphs of diameter 3 having eigenvalue −1 and a3=α (b1c2=β and a3≠0, respectively). Such distance-regular graphs for small numbers α=1,2 or β=3 with a3≠0 are classified. We show that there are no distance-regular graphs with intersection array {44,35,3;1,5,42}. Moreover, we classify the distance-regular graphs with diameter 3 and smallest eigenvalue greater than −3.

Abstract:A non-complete geometric distance-regular graph is the point graph of a partial linear space in which the set of lines is a set of Delsarte cliques. In this paper, we prove that for a fixed integer m >= 2, there are only finitely many non-geometric distance-regular graphs with smallest eigenvalue at least -m, diameter at least three and intersection number c(2) >= 2. Abstract:In this paper, we will classify the 2-partially distance-regular graphs whose each local graph has second largest eigenvalue at most one. As an application, we classify the 2-walk-regular graphs with an eigenvalue −b12−1. These results generalize the results of Koolen and Yu for distance-regular graphs.

Abstract:For a distance-regular graph with second largest eigenvalue (resp. smallest eigenvalue) \mu1 (resp. \muD) we show that (\mu1+1)(\muD+1)<= -b1 holds, where equality only holds when the diameter equals two. Using this inequality we study distance-regular graphs with fixed second largest eigenvalue.

Abstract:Let G=(V,E) be a simple graph with vertex set V(G)={v1,v2,…,vn} and edge set E(G). Let D(G) be the distance matrix of G. For a given nonnegative integer k, when n is sufficiently large with respect to k, we show that λn−k(D)≤−1, thereby solving a problem proposed by Lin et al. (2014) [8]. The distance Laplacian spectral radius of a connected graph G is the spectral radius of the distance Laplacian matrix of G, defined asDL(G)=Tr(G)−D(G), where Tr(G) is the diagonal matrix of vertex transmissions of G. Aouchiche and Hansen (2014) [3] conjectured that m(λ1(DL))≤n−2 when G≇Kn, and the equality holds if and only if either G≅K1,n−1 or G≅Kn2,n2. In this paper, we confirm the conjecture.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the ratio of any two components of a maximal eigenvector of a non-regular graph corresponding to its spectral radius. These results are used to present a new upper bound for the spectral radius of a non-regular graph, which improves Stevanovic’s bound.

Abstract:Godsil showed that if $\Gamma$ is a distance-regular graph with diameter $D \geq 3$ and valency $k \geq 3$, and $\theta$ is an eigenvalue of $\Gamma$ with multiplicity $m \geq 2$, then $k \leq\frac{(m+2)(m-1)}{2}$.In this paper we will give a refined statement of this result. We show that if $\Gamma$ is a distance-regular graph with diameter $D \geq 3$, valency $k \geq 2$ and an eigenvalue $\theta$ with multiplicity $m\geq 2$, such that $k$ is close to $\frac{(m+2)(m-1)}{2}$, then $\theta$ must be a tail. We also characterize the distance-regular graphs with diameter $D \geq 3$, valency $k \geq 3$ and an eigenvalue $\theta$ with multiplicity $m \geq 2$ satisfying $k= \frac{(m+2)(m-1)}{2}$.

Abstract:We study regular graphs whose distance-$2$ graph or distance-$1$-or-$2$ graph is strongly regular. We provide a characterization of such graphs $Γ$ (among regular graphs with few distinct eigenvalues) in terms of the spectrum and the mean number of vertices at maximal distance $d$ from every vertex, where $d+1$ is the number of different eigenvalues of $Γ$. This can be seen as a another version of the so-called spectral excess theorem, which characterizes in a similar way those regular graphs that are distance-regular.

Abstract:We find an inequality involving the eigenvalues of a regular graph; equality holds if and only if the graph is strongly regular. We apply this inequality to the first subconstituents of a distance-regular graph and obtain a simple proof of the fundamental bound for distance-regular graphs, discovered by Jurisic, Koolen and Terwilliger. Using this we show that for distance-regular graphs with certain intersection arrays, the first subconstituent graphs are strongly regular. From these results we prove the nonexistence of distance-regular graphs associated to 20 feasible intersection arrays from the book Distance-Regular Graphs by Brouwer, Cohen and Neumaier [3]. Abstract:We study the spectral radius of connected non-regular graphs. Let λ1(n,Δ) be the maximum spectral radius among all connected non-regular graphs with n vertices and maximum degree Δ. We prove that Δ−λ1(n,Δ)=Θ(Δ/n2). This improves two recent results by Stevanović and Zhang, respectively.

Abstract:In this paper, we classify non-geometric distance-regular graphs of diameter at least $3$ with smallest eigenvalue at least $-3$. This is progress towards what is hoped to be an eventual complete classification of distance-regular graphs with smallest eigenvalue at least $-3$, analogous to existing classification results available in the case that the smallest eigenvalue is at least $-2$.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the q -distance matrix for a distance-regular graph and show that the q -distance matrix of a distance-regular graph with classical parameters (D,q,α,β) has exactly three distinct eigenvalues, of which one is zero. Moreover, we study distance-regular graphs whose q -distance matrix has exactly one positive eigenvalue.

Note that if Gamma is bipartite, then its distance-2 graph is not connected. Abstract:The regular complete t-partite graphs Kt×s (s,t positive integers at least 2) with valency k=(t−1)s have smallest eigenvalue −s=−k/(t−1), and hence, for fixed t there are infinitely many of them. In this paper we will show that these graphs are exceptional graphs for the class of distance-regular graphs. For this we will show a valency bound for distance-regular graphs with a relatively large, in absolute value, smallest eigenvalue. Using this bound, we classify the non-bipartite distance-regular graphs with diameter at most three with smallest eigenvalue not larger than −k/2, where k is the valency of the graph. As an application we complete the classification of the 3-chromatic distance-regular graphs with diameter three, which was started by Blokhuis, Brouwer and Haemers.

Abstract:Suppose that the vertex set of a graph G is V(G)={v1,v2,...,vn}. The transmission Tr(vi) (or Di) of vertex vi is defined to be the sum of distances from vi to all other vertices. Let Tr(G) be the n×n diagonal matrix with its (i, i)-entry equal to TrG(vi). The distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of a connected graph G is the spectral radius of the distance signless Laplacian matrix of G, defined as L(G)=Tr(G)+D(G), where D(G) is the distance matrix of G. In this paper, we give a lower bound on the distance signless Laplacian spectral radius of graphs and characterize graphs for which these bounds are best possible. We obtain a lower bound on the second largest distance signless Laplacian eigenvalue of graphs. Moreover, we present lower bounds on the spread of distance signless Laplacian matrix of graphs and trees, and characterize extremal graphs.
