Abstract:Grid computing is becoming a new computing infrastructure for large-scale scientific computation and cooperative work. The Globus toolkit is the most popular grid environment and de facto grid standard, and it has adopted OGSA architecture to provide applications with grid service level. This study focuses on the requirement for scientists in engineering computation field and narrows the gap between grid service and the engineering community. The engineering computation architecture supplies the users with a visual application development and deployment environment for engineering computation. The whole is characterized by grid service. At the same time, QoS driven user-centric scheduling, community-based efficient authorization and flexible task management are designed and implemented.
A Public Grid Computing Framework Based on a Hierarchical Combination of Middleware

Abstract:Grids, as one implementation of public computing, can be deployed by some middleware to integrate all kinds of resources across institutional boundaries, to tackle complex problems in scientific and engineering computation, data storage, scientific visualization, etc. In this paper, we propose a public computing grid framework built upon the hierarchical combination of two popular middleware products, Globus Toolkit (GT) and Sun Grid Engine (SGE). The communication between them can be conducted by Transfer-queue Over Globus (TOG). We discuss issues related to the deployment and the usage of this kind of hybrid grids. We examine it using serial programs and parallel program codes, and compare it with the grids deployed by only GT or SGE, respectively. The case studies imply that this hybrid grid is suitable for loosely coupled applications with high computational complexity.

Abstract:Through analyzing the statuses of collaborative CAD technology, collaborative assembly (CA) design technology based on semantics in grid is promoted in point of the characters of large assembly. Using feature semantics, product data exchange and part modification of large assembly are implemented. Assembly semantics is the abstract and generalization of assembly constraints among parts. Research on product design based on semantics can prominently enhance the straight forwardness and efficiency of assembly design. Meanwhile, Grid computing technology enables a collection of grid computers to gain super computation power, so it can fast carry out manipulation and modification of large assembly. In this paper we present a novel CA system supporting heterogeneous CAD - GridCA, which is integrated with semantics and grid computing technology. A case study is further given to illustrate the effectiveness of the system.

Abstract:In this paper, we present our work on the integration of existing engineering applications using Grid Services. We address a visual grid framework that provides an integrated development environment for engineering computation applications. Furthermore, we demonstrate bow such services can interact with each other. These interactions enable a level of integration that assists the scientific application architect in leveraging applications running in heterogeneous runtime environments. Our framework is implemented by using the existing infrastructures and middleware, the Globus Toolkit. We test our framework for computation solid mechanics applications that require large data transferring, interactive steering, using of multiple platforms, visualization, and access via a portal with graphic interface.

Abstract:Comprehensions are a good query notation for database programming languages (DBPLs), which subsume query languages such as SQL and OQL in expressiveness. The AutoMed IQL is an intermediate query language based on comprehensions, which can be used to define the semantic relationships between schemas constructs. In this paper, we emphasize the query optimization problem for IQL queries. Since IQL can be smoothly integrated into several DBPLs, our approach is expected to be applied to semantic web environments.

Abstract:Ensuring the correctness and reliability of large-scale resource sharing and complex job processing is an important task for grid applications. From a formal method perspective, a grid service chain model based on state Pi calculus is proposed in this work as the theoretical foundation for the service composition and collaboration in grid. Following the idea of the Web Service Resource Framework (WSRF), state Pi calculus enables the life-cycle management of system states by associating the actions in the original Pi calculus with system states. Moreover, model checking technique is exploited for the design-time and run-time logical verification of grid service chain models. A grid application scenario of the dynamic analysis of material deformation structure is also provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed work.

Abstract:A campus grid is developed and deployed to integrate high performance computing resources in Zhejiang University.The architecture is based on a hierarchical combination of two grid middleware products,Globus Toolkit and Sun Grid Engine,in order to make use of their advantages.The campus grid is applied for scientific computation,bioinformatics,computational fluid dynamics,etc.Some test cases using Message Passing Interface(MPI) show that the campus grid can provide powerful and stable computing cycles.The campus grid also provides two collaborative visualization services,the local rendering and the server rendering,which can be customized by the user.Finally,the collaborative visualization service facilitates users to research and analyze cooperatively.

Abstract:Ensuring the reliability and robustness of complex scientific grid applications is a critical issue for managing and sharing expensive scientific instruments. However, guaranteeing the correct processing of grid applications under all circumstances is difficult and not fully addressed by existing grid infrastructure. Hidden flaws in the applications including unexpected internal behaviors, dissatisfaction of real-time constraints, incompatibility in service interactions, etc may lead to subtle failures in grid systems. This work tries to enhance the trustworthiness of grid applications by investigating existing formal techniques and their extensions. A formal framework based on extensions of Pi calculus is proposed which also integrates formal techniques of model checking and bisimulation analysis to enable the reasoning of grid applications from three perspectives: data, time and behavior. In addition, both application examples and our current implementation architecture are also concluded.

Abstract:Though how a grid and its users interact is an important topic, it's almost ignored in the grid community as far as we know. This problem is quite challenging because of the openness and dynamics of grids. To meet this need, sophisticated interaction is developed, which is an extension of the traditional interaction. A model of sophisticated interaction, PRASP, is also presented and a theorem that PRASP is as powerful as PerRAM is proved. The concepts and views in this paper are the basis of our further work.

Abstract:Grid computing technology is a focused field in high performance computing. This paper describes an engineering computation oriented visual grid framework VGrid, which is capable to bridge the gap between currently deployed grid services and the computational applications. Based on the Globus toolkit, and coupled with a client component, a services pool and a server component, VGrid visually performs resource discovery, task schedule, and result processing. VGrid improves the efficiency of utilization of resources by introducing a logical resource concept. VGrid applications of numerical simulations in engineering sciences are demonstrated.

Abstract:The grid technology is expected to have the ability of resolving the problem of large-scale information resources sharing in virtual organizations, which deliver a number of grid services to publish large-scale information to end-users. We propose an intelligent client to grid services, which manipulate information resources at semantic level and provides end-users with a universal and intuitive semantic view for various grid services. Abstract:The popularity of service-oriented computing has not been accompanied by the necessary formalization of the notions being involved. This paper focuses on the development of a coalgebraic framework to support service-oriented application design. In this paper, the concepts are separated into three hierarchies - interfaces, contracts and services. Interfaces are specified by functors, and services are shown to be coalgebras of such functors, which should satisfy the axioms given in corresponding contracts. Different interfaces, contracts and services are related respectively by the morphisms between them. And the notion of bisimulation for services is derived from service morphisms, which captures the observational equivalence of services.

Abstract:A toolkit called DartGrid using technologies from either semantic Web or grid is introduced. It is build upon Globus Toolkit and uses RDF-based ontology to integrate heterogeneous relational databases. Technically, database resources are exposed as grid services and organized as an ontology-based virtual organization. By uniformly defined domain semantics, data resources are semantically registered to an semantic registration service and seamlessly integrated together to provide unified semantic query and semantic search service. Furthermore, a set of semantic tools are developed to raise the level of interaction with the system to a semantic level. A visual mapping tool is offered to help data provider to define semantic mapping from relational schema to shared ontology. A visual query tool which can automatically generated query interface based on ontology definitions, is provided to help specify complex semantic queries. A search-engine-like interface is offered to enable quickly search and semantically navigate data from one database to another database. DartGrid is a deployed system that currently provides query and search service at China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine .

Abstract:As a quantum counterpart of labeled transition system (LTS), quantum labeled transition system (QLTS) is a powerful formalism for modeling quantum programs or protocols, and gives a categorical understanding for quantum computation. With the help of quantum branching monad, QLTS provides a framework extending some ideas in non-deterministic or probabilistic systems to quantum systems. In this paper, we propose the notion of reactive quantum system (RQS), a variant of QLTS, and develop a coalgebraic semantics for both QLTS and RQS by an endofunctor on the category of convex sets, which has a final coalgebra. Such a coalgebraic semantics provides a unifying abstract interpretation for both QLTS and RQS. The notions of bisimulation and simulation can be employed to compare the behavior of different types of quantum systems and judge whether a coalgebra can be behaviorally simulated by another.

Abstract:Semantic heterogeneity and few compatible data sources are two problems in data grid service. This paper introduces a novel wrapper-mediator based semantic data grid service mechanism, it uses ontology based semantic information to wrap the heterogeneous data source, and employs mediator structure to supply accessing interface for the data sources. The extension of XML algebra with semantic query enhanced and semantic grid communication mechanism are also discussed to enable semantic querying on data gird environment.

Abstract:The large-scale sharing and reuse of Grid workflow,a basic grid service,are the core technologies in making grid an intelligentized and integrated environment for problem solving.Workflow composition can simplify the complex business logic or scientific application problems by reusing existing solution.A semantic-based approach for grid workflow composition reduces the complexity of workflow reuses which incurred from the knowledge required in details of syntactic expression.We described first a semantic grid workflow description template based on goal concept in use of knowledge expression technique in the paper,then presented a workflow management prototype system for achieving the semantic-based workflow composition,especially introduced in it the details of the realization of semantic-based workflow composition in workflow design tool.
