Abstract:The Semantic Grid commonly refers to a branch subject under the umbrella of Grid Computing. In a typical semantic grid application, the network resources and services are described in a meaningful way so that the resources can be discovered, aggregated, joined up more readily and automatically. The description typically draws upon the technology from the Semantic Web, such as the Resource Description Framework (RDF) and Web Ontology Language (OWL). Abstract:The emerging grid infrastructure presents many challenging security issues that demand new access approach due to its inherent heterogeneity, multidomain characteristic and highly dynamic nature. In order to protect the secure sharing and coordinated use of diverse resources in distributed "virtual organizations", fine-grained access control in grid computing is therefore very necessary and important. In this paper, a semantic-aware access conrtol(SAAC) extending the RBAC with the semantic specification is proposed. Supplying semantic specification by the implementation of semantic inference engine (SIE), the administration for the applicability of users' role memberships to particular permissions is much more easy and precise. The enforcement of the SAAC model for grid application is presented. An experimental evaluation of its overheads is also described.

Abstract:The grid technology is expected to have the ability of resolving the problem of large-scale information resources sharing in virtual organizations, which deliver a number of grid services to publish large-scale information to end-users. We propose an intelligent client to grid services, which manipulate information resources at semantic level and provides end-users with a universal and intuitive semantic view for various grid services. With a series of semantic plug-ins in semantic browser, end-users can gain richer interaction with grid services and resolve complex domain problems in a more intuitive and friendly environment.

Abstract:Grid is a newly developed technology for complex system with large-scale resource sharing, wide-area communication, multi-institutional collaboration, etc. A service-based approach for Grid can improve the extensibility and interoperability. In this paper, Service Oriented Grid Hierarchical Architecture is proposed within the OGSA framework, which gives a new approach to build the Grid. The need of semantic component in Grid to discover and describe the resources is analyzed and a Star Model of Ontology is introduced to describe services semantically. A Grid Service Matchmaking Semantic method is presented on the base of the ontology.

However, the lack of explicit and formal expression of data semantics prevents the grid-enabled database systems from expanding into more sophisticated applications. To remedy it, ontology grids are proposed to explore important aspects of service-oriented and semantic-based data management, that is, how to integrate ontologies with a service-oriented grid and support semantic-based data access and integration services on the grid.

Abstract:Meteorology is a complex, interdisciplinary area. Meteorology Grid Computing tries to offer a flexible, secure, coordinated resource sharing and problem-resolving environment by making good use of semantic grid ideas. In this paper, a semantic architecture in Meteorology Grid Computing is presented. With the architecture, we firstly discussed the Semantic Computing Service according to the semantic descriptions of grid computing resource. Then Semantic Data Access Service is illuminated by constructing automatic metadata mapping, which provides users with the convenience to quickly access data storage facilities in on-demand manner. Finally, Meteorology Grid Expert System is presented, and it will offer meteorology knowledge environments to facilitate the forecasters and scientists with analyzing the future weather situation.

Abstract:ITSGrid is an undergoing joint engineering project designed and developed by advanCed Computing aNd sysTem (CCNT) Lab in Zhejiang University and Hangzhou Enjoyor Electronics Co. Ltd (Enjoyor). The new features of ITSGrid are originated from two important research projects -- DartGrid and DartFlow, and one key engineering project -- JTang Application Server, in CCNT Lab. Its goal is to build an integrated intelligent transportation information and service platform (ITISP), to integrate traffic data resources collected by Enjoyor and cooperate existing ITS subsystems and services deployed by Enjoyor, finally serve for transportation construction in China. During building this project, we utilize systematically the Grid technology, the Semantic Web technology, the Web Service technology, the Messaging Oriented Middleware technology.

Abstract:Inter-organization collaboration is recently acknowledged as an important vision of the grid research, however there are not many well implemented system and not many applications that are in large-scale real use either. This paper present a VO(Virtual Organization) Ontology Model Framework that simplifies the Inter-organization collaboration of the future grids. Thanks to the semantic technology, we can develop semantic based model framework to implement interoperability even in heterogeneous environments. The framework, consisted of a bunch of ontologies, definitely defines and describes which attributes of the VOs should define. We define and implement the semantic model of Virtual Organizations and Grid Resources and introduce the basic concepts and mechanisms to represent them and apply them to the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CATCM). The prototype presented in this paper is also applicable to other VO application projects.

Abstract:The task of improving the semantic interoperability of distributed data sources is one of the focuses in Semantic Grid research. For integrating and sharing scientific data in materials science, this paper proposes a semantic model for materials scientific data and an ontology-based data integration method. The semantic model covers the key factors in materials science and is considered as the global conceptual model. In the method, Mapping ontology and data source description ontology are designed to represent the two types of mappings formally. Furthermore, the architecture and query process are also presented. The experimental prototype is implemented to show the usefulness of the method in heterogeneous data environment for materials science.

Abstract:The large-scale sharing and reuse of Grid workflow,a basic grid service,are the core technologies in making grid an intelligentized and integrated environment for problem solving.Workflow composition can simplify the complex business logic or scientific application problems by reusing existing solution.A semantic-based approach for grid workflow composition reduces the complexity of workflow reuses which incurred from the knowledge required in details of syntactic expression.We described first a semantic grid workflow description template based on goal concept in use of knowledge expression technique in the paper,then presented a workflow management prototype system for achieving the semantic-based workflow composition,especially introduced in it the details of the realization of semantic-based workflow composition in workflow design tool.

Abstract:Grid computing is appropriate for supporting cooperative work Many designers and engineers from different companies or institutions can dynamically form a virtual organization for a given design task. In order to protect each company's sensitive data and services, access control is therefore necessary and important. In this paper, we present a new approach to authorize and administrate access requests, in which the requests are obliged to negotiate with a policy enforcement point in order to gain access to the target grid service. The new access control model will exploit semantic Web technology, and use machine reasoning about the messages and policies at a semantic level.

Abstract:A toolkit called DartGrid using technologies from either semantic Web or grid is introduced. It is build upon Globus Toolkit and uses RDF-based ontology to integrate heterogeneous relational databases. Technically, database resources are exposed as grid services and organized as an ontology-based virtual organization. By uniformly defined domain semantics, data resources are semantically registered to an semantic registration service and seamlessly integrated together to provide unified semantic query and semantic search service. Furthermore, a set of semantic tools are developed to raise the level of interaction with the system to a semantic level. A visual mapping tool is offered to help data provider to define semantic mapping from relational schema to shared ontology. A visual query tool which can automatically generated query interface based on ontology definitions, is provided to help specify complex semantic queries. A search-engine-like interface is offered to enable quickly search and semantically navigate data from one database to another database. DartGrid is a deployed system that currently provides query and search service at China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine .

In this paper, we presented a semantic-based meteorology grid service registry, discovery and composition framework by combining grid technologies and the advantages of semantic web techniques. The main objective of the framework is to support automating the discovery, selection, and workflow composition of semantically described heterogeneous meteorological grid services, which offers the possibility of facilitating geographically distributed meteorological scientists to resolve complex scientific problems cooperately. With this framework, the key technologies such as semantic registry, semantic matchmaking, QoS ranking and composition model, will be discussed.
