Abstract:In the operation of pressurized water reactors, the bending deformation of fuel rods caused by mechanical fatigue accumulation represents a significant safety risk. In the past, deformation detection research primarily focused on spent fuel rods, the detection process was cumbersome, and the measurement data lacked reference value for the optimal design of the reactor. To address this issue, a real-time monitoring method for vector deformation of fuel rods using optical fiber sensing technology was investigated in this study. This method can withstand high temperature, high pressure, and complicated electromagnetic environment associated with reactor thermal simulation experimental devices. In this method, a $4\times $ 3 fiber Bragg grating (FBG) arrays are packaged in microgroove on the surface of the fuel rod in order to measure the stress–strain at various locations along the rod. Based on the principle of cross-sectional strain symmetry, temperature is separated from FBG wavelength drift signal, and achieved temperature compensation for strain measurement. A convolutional neural network (CNN) model is established to solve the vector deformation parameters of the rod, including bending position, direction, and deflection. The curvature distribution of the rod is calculated using the three-point interpolation method, which enables the 3-D reconstruction of the rod morphology. Experiments show that the proposed method can accurately detect the deformation parameters in a variable-temperature environment, and the bending reconstruction curve corresponds well with the mechanical simulation, meeting the accuracy requirements of the reactor thermal experiment.
