Abstract:Holographic lenses (HLs) are part of holographic optical elements (HOE), and are being applied to concentrate solar energy on a focal point or focal line. In this way, the concentrated energy can be converted into electrical or thermal energy by means of a photovoltaic cell or a thermal absorber tube. HLs are able to passively track the apparent motion of the sun with a high acceptance angle, allowing tracking motors to be replaced, thus reducing the cost of support structures. This article focuses on a review of the materials used in the recording of a holographic lens (HL) or multiple HLs in photovoltaic and/or concentrating solar collectors. This review shows that the use of photopolymers for the recording of HLs enables high-performance efficiency in physical systems designed for energy transformation, and presents some important elements to be taken into account for future designs, especially those related to the characteristics of the HL recording materials. Finally, the article outlines future recommendations, emphasizing potential research opportunities and challenges for researchers entering the field of HL-based concentrating solar photovoltaic and/or concentrating solar thermal collectors.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the Paper Attempts to Solve This paper aims to review the materials used for holographic lenses (HLs) in solar applications and explore their applications in photovoltaic and/or concentrating solar collectors. Specifically, the paper focuses on the following points: 1. **Basic Concept of Holographic Lenses**: - As part of holographic optical elements, holographic lenses can efficiently focus sunlight to a point or a line. - This focused solar energy can be converted into electrical or thermal energy through photovoltaic cells or thermal absorption tubes. 2. **Material Selection and Optimization**: - The paper discusses in detail the materials used for recording holographic lenses, especially photopolymers, which can achieve high-efficiency energy conversion systems. - Important factors to consider in future designs are proposed, particularly issues related to the characteristics of holographic lens recording materials. 3. **Ability to Passively Track the Sun's Movement**: - Holographic lenses can passively track the apparent movement of the sun with a large acceptance angle, thereby replacing tracking motors and reducing the cost of support structures. 4. **Future Research Directions**: - The paper also outlines future research suggestions, highlighting potential research opportunities and challenges faced by researchers entering the field of holographic lens-based concentrating photovoltaic and/or concentrating solar thermal collectors. Through the above research, the paper aims to improve the energy efficiency of holographic optical elements in solar energy conversion methods and provides a set of methods for optimizing parameters and variables.
