Abstract:In this paper the recently introduced concept of equidistant dimension $eqdim(G)$ of graph $G$ is considered. Useful property of distance-equalizer set of arbitrary graph $G$ has been established. For Johnson graphs $J_{n,2}$ and Kneser graphs $K_{n,2}$ exact values for $eqdim(J_{n,2})$ and $eqdim(K_{n,2})$ have been derived, while for Johnson graphs $J_{n,3}$ it is proved that $eqdim(J_{n,3}) \le n-2$. Finally, exact value of $eqdim(J_{2k,k})$ for odd $k$ has been presented.

Abstract:We study perfect $2$-coloring of the Johnson graphs $J(n,3)$ associated with the third largest eigenvalue and symmetric quotient matrix, which exists only when $n \in \{6, 10\}$. We survey the known constructions in the case $n=6$, give a new construction for the two known perfect $2$-colorings in the case $n=10$, and prove that these are the only possible ones.

Abstract:We study the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues over a collection of matrices associated with a graph. Lower bounds are derived based on the existence or non-existence of certain cycle(s) in a graph. A key result proves that every Johnson graph has a signed variant with exactly two distinct eigenvalues. We also explore applications to weighing matrices, linear ternary codes, tight frames, and compute the minimum rank of Johnson graphs. Further results involve the minimum number of distinct eigenvalues for graphs in association schemes, distance-regular graphs, and Hamming graphs. We also draw some connections with simplicial complexes and higher-order Laplacians.

A Note on the Asymptotic Value of the Isoperimetric Number of $J(n,2)$

Abstract:Let $G$ be a graph on $n$ vertices and $S$ a subset of vertices of $G$; the boundary of $S$ is the set, $\partial S$, of edges of $G$ connecting $ S $ to its complement in $G$. The isoperimetric number of $G$, is the minimum of $\left| \partial S \right|/\left| S \right|$ overall $S \subset V(G)$ of at most $n/2$ vertices. Let $k \le n$ be positive integers. The Johnson graph is the graph, $J(n,k)$, whose vertices are all the subsets of size $k$ of $\{1,\dots,n\}$, two of which are adjacent if their intersection has cardinality equal to $k-1$. In this paper we show that the asymptotic value of the isoperimetric number of the Johnson graph $J(n,2)$ is equal to $ (2-\sqrt{2})n$.

Abstract:In this paper, both edge and mixed metric dimensions of Johnson graphs $J_{n,k}$ are considered. A new tight lower bound for $\beta_E(J_{n,k})$ based on hitting sets has been obtained. Using this bound, exact values for $\beta_E(J_{n,2})$ and $\beta_M(J_{n,2})$ have been derived, and it is proved that $\beta_E(J_{n,2}) = \beta_M(J_{n,2})$.

Symmetry Integrability and Geometry Methods and Applications

Abstract:In this short note, we prove equidistribution results regarding three families of three-colour partitions recently introduced by Schlosser and Zhou. To do so, we prove an asymptotic formula for the infinite product ( with and a root of unity) when lies in certain sectors in the right half-plane, which may be useful in studying similar problems. As a corollary, we obtain the asymptotic behaviour of the three-colour partition families at hand.

Abstract:We show that the maximum cardinality of an equiangular line system in $\mathbb R^{18}$ is at most $59$. Our proof includes a novel application of the Jacobi identity for complementary subgraphs. In particular, we show that there does not exist a graph whose adjacency matrix has characteristic polynomial $(x-22)(x-2)^{42} (x+6)^{15} (x+8)^2$.

Crank equidistribution and $(k,j)$-overlined partitions

Abstract:In a paper published in 2023, Wagner introduced and studied Jacobi forms with complex multiplication, and gave several applications. One such application was in constructing a new doubly-infinite family of partition-theoretic objects, called $(k,j)$-coloured overpartitions and labelled by $\overline{p}_{k,j}$, and using the Jacobi forms to construct crank functions which explain the Ramanujan-type congruences satisfied by $\overline{p}_{k,j}$. In this note, we give an asymptotic formula for the number of $(k,j)$-coloured overpartitions and prove that any crank constructed by Wagner is asymptotically equidistributed on arithmetic progressions, following several recent papers in the literature.

Abstract:We consider noncrossing partitions of [n] under the action of (i) the reflection group (of order 2), (ii) the rotation group (cyclic of order n) and (iii) the rotation/reflection group (dihedral of order 2n). First, we exhibit a bijection from rotation classes to bicolored plane trees on n edges, and consider its implications. Then we count noncrossing partitions of [n] invariant under reflection and show that, somewhat surprisingly, they are equinumerous with rotation classes invariant under reflection. The proof uses a pretty involution originating in work of Germain Kreweras. We conjecture that the "equinumerous" result also holds for arbitrary partitions of [n].

Abstract:Graham and Pollak showed that the vertices of any graph $G$ can be addressed with $N$-tuples of three symbols, such that the distance between any two vertices may be easily determined from their addresses. An addressing is optimal if its length $N$ is minimum possible. In this paper, we determine an addressing of length $k(n-k)$ for the Johnson graphs $J(n,k)$ and we show that our addressing is optimal when $k=1$ or when $k=2, n=4,5,6$, but not when $n=6$ and $k=3$. We study the addressing problem as well as a variation of it in which the alphabet used has more than three symbols, for other graphs such as complete multipartite graphs and odd cycles. We also present computations describing the distribution of the minimum length of addressings for connected graphs with up to $10$ vertices. Motivated by these computations we settle a problem of Graham, showing that most graphs on $n$ vertices have an addressing of length at most $n-(2-o(1))\log_2 n$.

Abstract:Let G be a graph of order n >= 6 with minimum degree delta(G) >= 4. Arkin and Hassin ['Graph partitions with minimum degree constraints', Discrete Math. 190 (1998), 55-65] conjectured that there exists a bipartition S, T of V(G) such that [n/2] -2 <= broken vertical bar S broken vertical bar, broken vertical bar T broken vertical bar <= [n/2] + 2 and the minimum degrees in the subgraphs induced by S and T are at least two. In this paper, we first show that G has a bipartition such that the minimum degree in each part is at least two, and then prove that the conjecture is true if the complement of G contains no complete bipartite graph K-3,K-r, where r = [n/2] - 3.

Abstract:We exhibit a one-to-one correspondence between $3$-colored graphs and subarrangements of certain hyperplane arrangements denoted $\mathcal J_n$, $n \in \mathbb N$. We define the notion of centrality of $3$-colored graphs which corresponds to the centrality of hyperplane arrangements. Via the correspondence, the characteristic polynomial $\chi_{\mathcal J_n}$ of $\mathcal J_n$ can be expressed in terms of the number of central $3$-colored graphs, and we compute $\chi_{\mathcal J_n}$ for $n = 2, 3$.

Abstract:Abstract Associated to a graph G is a set S( G ) of all real-valued symmetric matrices whose off-diagonal entries are nonzero precisely when the corresponding vertices of the graph are adjacent, and the diagonal entries are free to be chosen. If G has n vertices, then the multiplicities of the eigenvalues of any matrix in S ( G ) partition n ; this is called a multiplicity partition. We study graphs for which a multiplicity partition with only two integers is possible. The graphs G for which there is a matrix in S ( G ) with partitions [ n − 2, 2] have been characterized. We find families of graphs G for which there is a matrix in S ( G ) with multiplicity partition [ n − k , k ] for k ≥ 2. We focus on generalizations of the complete multipartite graphs. We provide some methods to construct families of graphs with given multiplicity partitions starting from smaller such graphs. We also give constructions for graphs with matrix in S ( G ) with multiplicity partition [ n − k , k ] to show the complexities of characterizing these graphs.
Jordan Type stratification of spaces of commuting nilpotent matrices

Abstract:An $n\times n$ nilpotent matrix $B$ is determined up to conjugacy by a partition $P_B$ of $n$, its Jordan type given by the sizes of its Jordan blocks. The Jordan type $\mathfrak D(P)$ of a nilpotent matrix in the dense orbit of the nilpotent commutator of a given nilpotent matrix of Jordan type $P$ is stable - has parts differing pairwise by at least two - and was determined by R. Basili. The second two authors, with B. Van Steirteghem and R. Zhao determined a rectangular table of partitions $\mathfrak D^{-1}(Q)$ having a given stable partition $Q$ as the Jordan type of its maximum nilpotent commutator. They proposed a box conjecture, that would generalize the answer to stable partitions $Q$ having $\ell$ parts: it was proven recently by J.~Irving, T. Košir and M. Mastnak. Using this result and also some tropical calculations, the authors here determine equations defining the loci of each partition in $\mathfrak D^{-1}(Q)$, when $Q$ is stable with two parts. The equations for each locus form a complete intersection. The authors propose a conjecture generalizing their result to arbitrary stable $Q$.

Abstract:A tripartite-circle drawing of a tripartite graph is a drawing in the plane, where each part of a vertex partition is placed on one of three disjoint circles, and the edges do not cross the circles. The tripartite-circle crossing number of a tripartite graph is the minimum number of edge crossings among all its tripartite-circle drawings.
