Abstract:Natural healing of a tooth-extraction socket, particularly in the esthetic zone, results in a significant decrease in the height and width of the alveolar ridge. 1 Minimizing alveolar atrophy and maintaining a sufficient bone volume for future implantation requires alveolar ridge preservation surgery. To date, despite considerable research into alveolar ridge preservation techniques with the use of various biological materials, including bovine or porcine bone particles, collagen-combined bone granules, allograft particles, and autologous blood-derived products, 2–4 outcomes of these practices remain inconsistently satisfied or even lead to postoperative infections. 5 Therefore, stimulating spontaneous alveolar bone regeneration after tooth extraction without exogenous biomaterials seems much safer and cost-effective.
