Abstract:Although national health-related quality of life population norms had been published based on the EuroQol 5-Dimensions 5-levels scale, China is a vast country with diverse cultural and social development in various regions. Therefore, regional population norms may better reflect the health status of residents in a given area. The purpose of the study was to derive the HRQoL population norm for adult general population in southern Jiangsu Province using the EQ-5D-5L scale and explore potential influencing factors. The data were based on a cross-sectional survey conducted in Liyang City from March 2019 to July 2020. EQ-5D-5L utility scores based on Chinese value set and EQ-VAS scores were used to assess HRQoL. The Tobit regression model and generalized linear model were performed to identify the association among potential covariates and HRQoL. The means (95% confidence interval) of the EQ-5D-5L utility scores and EQ-VAS scores were 0.981(0.980–0.983) and 83.6(83.2–83.9), respectively. Younger people (≤ 40 years old) were more likely to experience problems with anxiety or depression. Additionally, women had lower HRQoL scores although multivariate analysis found no statistical difference between the sexes. Lower HRQoL was associated with advanced age, lower socioeconomic status, no spouse, lack of regular physical activities, smoking cessation, and chronic non-communicable diseases. Subjects who declared that they were afflicted by diseases presented significantly lower utility scores, ranging from 0.823 (0.766–0.880) for memory-related diseases to 0.978 (0.967–0.989) for hepatic diseases. Regional population norms of HRQoL are needed in the health economic study owing to the great socioeconomic differences across regions in China. The present study provides HRQoL population norms for adults in southern Jiangsu. These norm values could help policy makers better allocate limited health resources and prioritize service plans.

Abstract:Purpose To evaluate the reliability and validity of the EQ-5D in a general population sample in urban China. Methods Thousand and eight hundred respondents in 18 communities of Hangzhou, China were recruited by multi-stage stratified random sampling. Respondents self-administered a questionnaire including the EQ-5D, the SF-36, and demographic questions. Test–retest reliability at 2-week intervals was evaluated using Kappa coefficient, the intraclass correlation coefficient. The standard error of measurement (SEM) was used to indicate the absolute measurement error. Construct validity was established using convergent, discriminant, and known groups analyses. Results Complete data for all EQ-5D dimensions were available for 1,747 respondents (97%). Kappa values were from 0.35 to 1.0. The ICCs of test–retest reliability were 0.53 for the EQ-5D index score and 0.87 for the EQ VAS score. The SEM values were 0.13 (9.22% range) and 4.20 (4.20% range) for the EQ-5D index and EQ VAS scores, respectively. The Pearson’s correlation coefficients between the EQ-5D and the SF-36 were stronger between comparable dimensions than those between less comparable dimensions, demonstrating convergent and discriminant evidence of construct validity. The Chinese EQ-5D distinguished well between known groups: respondents who reported poor general health and chronic diseases had worse HRQoL than those without. Older people, females, people widowed or divorced, and those with a lower socioeconomic status reported poorer HRQoL. Respondents reporting no problems on any EQ-5D dimension had better scores on the SF-36 summary scores than those reporting problems. Conclusions The Chinese version of the EQ-5D demonstrated acceptable construct validity and fair to moderate levels of test–retest reliability in an urban general population in China.

Abstract:Backgrounds Social Health Scale for the Elderly short version (SHSE-S) is a psychometrically sound instrument that comprehensively assesses the social health status of older adults in China. The aim of the present study was to establish continuous normative data of SHSE-S. Methods We conducted a multicenter cross-sectional study among 31 communities in eastern China. Older adults aged 60 years and above were invited to participate in the study. Each participant was interviewed in-person to finish a structured questionnaire. The SHES-S score was calculated and standardized for each participant. We split the sample into generation and validation datasets and compared the distribution of SHSE-S score between two datasets. Multivariable linear regression was used to assess the SHSE-S score and demographic variables. Regression-based norms were built using a four-step process. Results A total of 6089 participants (51.2% females) aged 60 years old and above (mean age = 71.3, SD = 8.0) were enrolled as the normative sample. No significant difference was found between the distribution of SHSE-S standardized score in the generation ( N = 2392) and validation ( N = 3697) datasets. Multivariable linear regression showed that females, higher education levels were positive indicators while aging, living alone, divorced or never married, multimorbidity were negative factors. The regression-based norm which taking demographic factors into account was established and a user-friendly worksheet was also provided to facilitate the scoring and norming of the SHSE-S. Conclusions The population-based regression norm of SHSE-S can be a useful tool for assessing the social health status of the Chinese elderly population.
Measuring health-related quality of life in elementary and secondary school students using the Chinese version of the EQ-5D-Y in rural China

Abstract:Background To measure health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of elementary and secondary school students in rural China using the simplified Chinese version of the EQ-5D-Y. Method Both the samples of students were from a school-based cohort study in a county located in southwestern China. The students self-completed the EQ-5D-Y. Feasibility was evaluated according to the percentages of missing values. Known group validity was assessed by comparing the frequency of reporting EQ-5D-Y problems between groups known to differ in health status. Results A total of 1728 elementary students and 2116 secondary students were included in the analysis. Their respective mean age was 8.7 (range: 7–15) years and 14.8 (range: 11–18) years, with girls being 45.1 and 50.1%, respectively. The missing values in both samples were quite low. Elementary students were less likely to have problems on‘having pain or discomfort’ and ‘feeling worried, sad or unhappy’ dimensions, but more likely to report problems on the dimensions related to physical functioning. Gender difference in HRQOL was only detected for secondary students in terms of ‘doing usual activities’, ‘having pain or discomfort,’ and ‘feeling worried, sad or unhappy’ ( P < 0.05 for all). The significant differences in HRQOL were not observed for the other characteristics. Conclusions It appears that the EQ-5D-Y is feasible and valid instrument in school-aged children and adolescents in rural China; but it suffers from similar disadvantages to those found in other general populations. The HRQOL distributions measured by the EQ-5D-Y were also provided.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Childhood obesity is a growing public health concern in China. It not only compromises physical health, but also has negative impacts on psychosocial well-being. As obesity rates increase, finding out what the perceptions of Chinese youth are regarding their weight is important for intervention planning and evaluation. However, there is a paucity of available obesity-specific instruments for children and adolescents in China and youth weight-specific quality of life (QOL) has been little reported. This study aimed to evaluate the measurement properties of the Chinese version of the Youth Quality of Life Instrument - Weight Module (YQOL-W). METHODS:The Chinese version of the YQOL-W was administered to 840 youth aged 11-18 from nine schools. Measurement properties including measurement model, reliability, validity and burden were evaluated. RESULTS:Confirmatory factor analysis showed that a three-factor model had acceptable model fit. The instrument had robust internal consistency reliability with Cronbach's α ranging from 0.84 to 0.96 and acceptable test-retest reliability with the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) all higher than 0.7. The standard error of measurement (SEM) values for the Self, Social and Environment factors and total score were 10.352, 9.526, 12.086 and 8.425, respectively. The small real differences (SRDs) for the Self, Social and Environment factors and total score were 28.675, 26.387, 33.478, and 23.337, respectively. The Pearson's correlation coefficients between the YQOL-W and the PedsQL4.0 General Core Scales were stronger between comparable dimensions than those between less comparable dimensions, demonstrating convergent and discriminant evidence of construct validity. Significant differences were found in subscale and total scores across weight status, age and genders (P<0.01), supporting the known-groups validity of the instrument. CONCLUSION:The Chinese version of the YQOL-W has acceptable measurement properties and can be used to assess the weight-specific QOL of children and adolescents in China.

EQ-5D-5L Population Scores in Mainland China: Results From a Nationally Representative Survey 2021

Abstract:Objectives: There is a lack of monitoring changes in the population scores of the most recent version, EQ-5D-5L, in mainland China. This study aimed to address this knowledge gap by assessing the EQ-5D-5L scores in mainland China using a nationally representative sample. Methods: Data were extracted from the 2021 Survey of Health Index of Chinese Families, which covered 31 provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities in mainland China. The survey used a multistage quota sampling strategy encompassing 120 prefecture-level cities. Quotas were allocated to each prefecture-level city in accordance with the 2020 China Population Census. This approach resulted in a final sample of 11 030 eligible questionnaires. The utility index (UI) and EuroQol Visual Analog Scale (EQ VAS) scores were reported for the entire sample (age-gender-urban/rural weighted) and by the characteristics of the study participants. Results: The study participants had a weighted mean UI of 0.939 (SD 0.135) and EQ VAS score of 80.19 (SD 18.39). The most commonly reported problem was anxiety/depression (26.37%), whereas self-care was the least reported problem (6.18%). Those who were male, were younger, lived without chronic conditions and disabilities, had higher levels of education, earned higher monthly household income, and were covered by basic medical insurance for urban employees had higher scores in both the UI and EQ VAS. Conclusion: This study revealed slightly lower UI scores despite a much higher drop in EQ VAS scores whereas China maintained minimum cases of COVID-19 in 2021 compared with the population norms recorded in 2019. Further studies are warranted to unveil the full impacts of COVID-19 outbreaks.

Abstract:Purpose:This study implemented the individualized Youth Quality of Life Instrument-Research Version (YQOL-R) to estimate the quality of life (QoL) among Chinese adolescents with three different Body Mass Index (BMI) levels. The study aims to explore and provide a reference for developing individualized QoL (IQoL) measurements in China.Methods:The sample consisted of 822 aged 11-18 from nine schools. The data collection included all participants' primary characters (age, sex, annual household income, parental education, and recruitment community) and their self-report QoL. Precisely, based on the generic measurement of YQOL-R, we developed IQoL measurements by asking adolescents' perceived five most important things to them (IQOLimportance) and the aspects they most want to change (IQOLchange) from 19 facets, respectively. The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied to compare total and subscale scores of IQOLimportance, IQOLchange, and YQOL-R among adolescents with three different weight status. Also, the data analysis used multivariable linear regression modeling to test the effects on scores of IQOLimportance and IQOLchange.Results:Overall, the obese adolescents identified "Having good physical health" as the most important (54.03%) and most like-to-change (42.65%); in contrast, the normal-weight group ranked "Being myself" as the top facet of IQOLimportance (52.42%) and "Having good friends" as the top facet of IQOLchange (43.12%). The obese adolescents' reported IQOLimportance scores are significantly lower than those of the normal-weight group (P=0.039). However, there is no significant difference in IQOLchange score among the three weight-status groups. The multivariable linear regression models indicated that adolescents who are girls (P=0.035), have higher educated fathers (P=0.049), and are overweight/obese (P=0.041) self-reported worse IQOLimportance score; yet, the girls (P=0.023) and older adolescents (P=0.004) answered lower IQOLchange scores. In addition, adolescents who had higher educated mothers (P=0.047; 0.023) and responded with higher total YQOL-R scores (P<0.001; <0.001) reported higher IQOLimportance and IQOLchange scores.Conclusion:In the current study, although the self-reported YQOL-R scores from different weight status did not present a significant difference, the obese group reported a statistical trend towards lower IQOLimportance scores than the normal-weight and overweight adolescents. These findings emphasize that IQOLimportance and IQOLchange could capture adolescents' perspectives with different weight statuses about their lives, which are unique as complementary health outcomes accompanying YQOL-R in health surveys and interventions among Chinese adolescents.

Results A total of 16,596 adults (18 years and older) with hypertension participated in this study. 62.4% were women. The mean utility score was 0.85 (standard deviation [SD] = 0.23). The proportion of participants reporting pain/discomfort problems was highest, while least patients reported problems in self-care dimension. Females, elderly, illiterate patients, ex-smokers and patients with longer duration of hypertension or comorbidities scored lower on HRQoL than others. Stroke, heart failure and coronary heart disease were associated with a larger negative impact on HRQoL among all comorbidities. Conclusions The HRQoL was lower in this rural hypertensive population than previously reported urban counterparts. To improve the HRQoL of hypertensive patients in rural areas, it is important to control hypertension and prevent its associated co-morbidities. More attention needs to be directed to elderly female patients with less education who scored much lower HRQoL than their male counterparts.

Estimating an EQ-5D-Y-3L Value Set for China

Abstract:The standard EQ-5D-Y-3L valuation protocol applies DCE data as the primary preference source to model the relative importance of dimensions while cTTO data served to anchor the DCE coefficients onto the QALY scale. This study aims to estimate an EQ-5D-Y-3L value set for China following this protocol, but with a larger cTTO design to better understand the role of cTTO data in estimating EQ-5D-Y-3L value sets. In total, 150 choice sets and 28 EQ-5D-Y-3L health states were valued using DCE and cTTO methods with two independent samples, respectively. General public from 14 different regions were recruited using quota sampling method to achieve representativeness. We compared two modelling strategies: (1) fit the DCE data with mixed logit model with correlated coefficients and a subsequent mapping procedure for anchoring; (2) fit the DCE and TTO data jointly in a hybrid model. Two evaluation criteria (1) coefficient significance and monotonicity; (2) prediction accuracy of the observed cTTO values were used to select the value set. In total, 1476 individuals participated in the study, with 1058 participated the DCE interview and 418 participated the cTTO interview. The highest mean TTO value was 0.924 for state 11112 and the lowest mean TTO value was − 0.088 for state 33333. The hybrid model with an A3 term performed the best and was selected as the value set. Following the international protocol and using a larger cTTO design, this study established the EQ-5D-Y-3L value set using a hybrid model for China. Future EQ-5D-Y-3L valuation study could consider using a larger cTTO design for estimating the value set.

Abstract:Social determinants are closely related to health and play a significant role in shaping the quality of life of a population. This study aimed to explore the differences in HRQoL (health-related quality of life) scores of residents in the eastern province of Zhejiang and the western province of Qinghai and probe factors affecting the HRQoL among the two populations. A sample of 4210 residents from a cross-sectional survey was included in the analysis. The EQ-5D-3L instrument was used to measure the HRQoL of residents. A Chi-square test and a t-test were used to examine the differences between different variables and analysis of variance (ANOVA) with interaction effects was used to analyze factors associated with the HRQoL between the two provinces. Residents' EQ-5D index score (EQ VAS score) was 0.963 (82.71) and 0.962 (81.51), respectively, in Zhejiang and Qinghai. Generally, residents in Qinghai displayed significantly worse HRQoL scores than those in Zhejiang. The differences between the two regions lay on mobility, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depressions. In both regions, an increased education level and being employed were most strongly associated with a positive HRQoL; increased age and presence of chronic diseases were most strongly associated with a negative HRQoL. When formulating health policies, the significant health disparities between western and eastern provinces must be given greater consideration. The health of vulnerable groups should be particularly focused on to improve the observed health disparities.
Psychometric Comparison of EQ-5D-Y, CHU-9D, and PedsQL 4.0 in Chinese Children and Adolescents With Functional Dyspepsia: A Multicenter Study

Abstract:Objectives: This study aimed to assess and compare psychometric properties of the 3 health-related quality of life (HRQOL) instruments EQ-5D Youth version (EQ-5D-Y), Child Health Utility 9D (CHU-9D), and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL 4.0) in children and adolescents with functional dyspepsia (FD) in China. Methods: A consecutive sample of FD outpatients were recruited from 6 tertiary medical centers in Hangzhou. The patients self-completed the 3 instruments in random order. Their feasibility, acceptability, construct validity (convergent, divergent, and known-group validity), and sensitivity were assessed. Multiple linear regression was used for identifying HRQOL-associated factors. Results: A total of 1100 patients (mean age, 9.2 years; girl, 56.8%) completed the survey with no missing responses. Ceiling effect was quite higher in EQ-5D-Y (60.9%) than CHU-9D (33.8%) and PedsQL 4.0 (1.0%). The EQ-5D-Y and CHU-9D utility scores and PedsQL 4.0 total score were highly correlated (|r| = 0.593-0.661), except for the EuroQol visual analog scale score (EQ-VAS). The intraclass correlation coefficient between the 2 utility scores was fair (0.542). Most conceptually similar dimensions among the 3 instruments showed moderate to high correlations (|r| > 0.3) as hypothesized. The difference was statistically significant for the 2 utility scores and PedsQL 4.0 total score in varied severity groups (P < .001), and PedsQL 4.0 total score had higher relative efficiency and effect size values. The child's age, severity of FD symptoms, and their guardian's education had significant impact on HRQOL (P < .001). Conclusions: EQ-5D-Y, CHU-9D, and PedsQL 4.0 demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties in Chinese children with FD. PedsQL 4.0 showed superior sensitivity and is recommended. EQ-5D-Y and CHU-9D utility scores were not interchangeable. The measurement properties of EQ-VAS need to be further explored.
An evaluation of EQ-5D-3L health utility scores using five country-specific tariffs in a rural population aged 45–69 years in Hua county, Henan province, China

Abstract:Abstract Background This study aims to compare the performance of the recently developed Chinese (city) tariff of the EQ-5D-3L against the UK, US, Japanese and Korean tariffs in a general rural population in China. Methods From November 2015 to September 2016, 12,085 permanent residents aged 45–69 from 257 villages randomly selected from Hua County, Henan Province, China, were interviewed using EQ-5D-3L, and a one-on-one questionnaire investigation was used to collect data on factors associated with HRQOL. The health utility scores were calculated using the UK, US, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (city) tariffs. The agreement, known-groups validity and sensitivity of these five tariffs were evaluated. Transition scores for pairs of observed EQ-5D-3L health states were calculated and compared. Results The Korean tariff yielded the highest mean health utility score (0.963), followed by the Chinese (city) (0.948), US (0.943), UK (0.930) and Japanese (0.921) tariffs, but the differences in the scores of any two tariffs did not exceed the MCID. The Chinese (city) tariff showed higher ICC values (ICCs> 0.89, 95% CI:0.755–0.964) and narrower limits of agreement (0.099–0.167) than the Korean tariff [(ICCs> 0.71, 95% CI:0.451–0.955); (0.146–0.253)]. The Chinese (city) tariff had a higher relative efficiency and effect size statistics in 10 out of 11 variables as compared to the UK, US and Japanese tariffs. The Chinese (city) tariff (0.215) was associated with moderate mean absolute transition scores compared with the UK (0.342), US (0.230), Japanese (0.149) and Korean (0.189) tariffs for 1485 observed pairs of the EQ-5D-3L health states. Conclusions Health utility scores derived from the five tariffs differed. The Chinese (city) tariff was the most suitable of these tariffs and was without obvious weakness. We recommend adopting the Chinese (city) tariff when applying EQ-5D-3L to assess quality of life among the elderly in China’s agricultural region with socio-economic status similar to Hua County. Results of this study had provided a crucial basis for health surveys, health promotion projects, health intervention trials, and health economic evaluation taking HRQOL as a target in rural areas of China.

Abstract:Background: The Child Health Utility 9D (CHU9D), a new generic preference-based health-related quality of life (HRQoL) instrument, has been validated for use in young people in both the UK and Australia. The main objectives of this study were to examine the feasibility of using a Chinese version of the CHU9D (CHU9D-CHN) to assess HRQoL and to investigate the association of physical activity, homework hours and sleep duration with HRQoL in children and adolescents in Mainland China.Methods: Data were collected using a multi-stage sampling method from grades 4-12 students in May 2013 in Nanjing, China. Consenting participants (N = 815) completed a self-administered questionnaire including the CHU9D-CHN instrument and information on physical activity, homework and sleep duration, self-reported health status, and socio-demographic characteristics. Descriptive and multivariate linear regression analyses were undertaken. CHU9D-CHN utility scores were generated by employing two scoring algorithms currently available for the instrument, the first derived from UK adults utilising the standard gamble (SG) valuation method and the second derived from Australian adolescents utilising the best-worst scaling (BWS) method.Results: It was found that CHU9D utility scores discriminated well in relation to self-reported health status and that better health status was significantly associated with higher utility scores regardless of which scoring algorithm was employed (both p < 0.001). The adjusted mean utilities were significantly higher for physically active than inactive students (0.023 by SG, 0.029 by BWS scoring methods, p < 0.05). An additional hour of doing homework and sleep duration were, separately, associated with mean utilities of -0.019 and 0.032 based on SG, and -0.021 and 0.040 according to BWS scoring algorithms (p < 0.01).Conclusion: The CHU9D-CHN shows promise for measuring and valuing the HRQoL of children and adolescents in China. Levels of self-reported physical activity, homework and sleep time were important influencers of utility scores.

Abstract:Abstract Purpose To develop an EQ-5D-3L social value set based on Chinese rural population’s preferences using the time trade-off (TTO) method, and to compare the differences in preferences on health states between China urban and rural population. Methods Between Sep 2013 and Nov 2013, a total of 1201 participants were recruited from rural areas of five Chinese cities (Beijing, Chengdu, Guiyang, Nanjing, and Shenyang) using a quota sampling method. Each respondent valued 13 health states using the TTO, and a total of 97 EQ-5D-3L health states were directly valued for estimating the value set. Various models with different specifications were explored at both aggregate and individual levels. The final model was determined by a set of predefined selection criteria. Findings An ordinary least square model at the aggregate level included 10 dummy variables for specifying the level 2 and 3 for each dimension and an N3 term presenting any dimension on level 3 was selected as the final model. The final model provides a value set ranges from − 0.218 to 0.859. The predicted utility values were highly correlated with but consistently lower than that of the published Chinese EQ-5D-3L value set (for urban population). Conclusion The availability of the China rural value set provides a set of social preferences weights for researchers and policy decision-makers for use in China rural area.

Abstract:Background Due to the rising standard of living and advances in public health and medical care in recent years in China, the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has been increasingly acknowledged as an important part of health management of adults. This study aimed to analyze the HRQoL of Chinese adults and identify the influencing factors, proposing specific recommendations for improvement. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1,291 selected adults from four provinces spanning different regions in China aged ≥18 years from July 2021 and January 2022. The EuroQol-5D-5L (EQ-5D-5L) was used to conduct the HRQoL survey, and a general questionnaire was administered to collect demographic characteristics, general information, and health behaviors of participants. The health utility value was measured, and one-way analysis of variance was performed. The Tobit regression model was employed to analyze the factors influencing the HRQoL of Chinese adults. Results The mean health utility values and visual analog scale scores for adults were 0.9400 ± 0.1197 and 84.09 ± 14.392, respectively. Notably, 60.3% of respondents reported no difficulties in any of the five dimensions of EQ-5D. However, a substantial proportion faced challenges in anxiety/depression (27%) and pain/discomfort (26.2%). Tobit regression model revealed that age, marital status, educational level, diet, sleep, mental state, mood, and chronic diseases significantly impact the HRQoL of Chinese adults. Conclusion The HRQoL among Chinese adults is generally satisfactory, but pay particular attention on areas such as pain, psychological anxiety, chronic diseases, and negative emotions is needed. The factors such as stress associated with marriage and the demands of high-skilled occupations might influence the overall health of the population. According to our findings, public health strategies to improve HRQoL should be developed to promote relatively healthy environments and lifestyles for older adults. Moreover, proactive measures are crucial for mitigating the potential health impacts associated with marital stress and high-skilled employment.

Abstract:Background The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) has become one of the most widely used measurement tools in child and adolescent mental health work across the globe. The SDQ was originally developed and validated within the UK and whilst its reliability and validity have been replicated in several countries important cross cultural issues have been raised. We describe normative data, reliability and validity of the Chinese translation of the SDQ (parent, teacher and self report versions) in a large group of children from Shanghai. Methods The SDQ was administered to the parents and teachers of students from 12 of Shanghai's 19 districts, aged between 3 and 17 years old, and to those young people aged between 11 and 17 years. Retest data was collected from parents and teachers for 45 students six weeks later. Data was analysed to describe normative scores, bandings and cut-offs for normal, borderline and abnormal scores. Reliability was assessed from analyses of internal consistency, inter-rater agreement, and temporal stability. Structural validity, convergent and discriminant validity were assessed. Results Full parent and teacher data was available for 1965 subjects and self report data for 690 subjects. Normative data for this Chinese urban population with bandings and cut-offs for borderline and abnormal scores are described. Principle components analysis indicates partial agreement with the original five factored subscale structure however this appears to hold more strongly for the Prosocial Behaviour, Hyperactivity – Inattention and Emotional Symptoms subscales than for Conduct Problems and Peer Problems. Internal consistency as measured by Cronbach's α coefficient were generally low ranging between 0.30 and 0.83 with only parent and teacher Hyperactivity – Inattention and teacher Prosocial Behaviour subscales having α > 0.7. Inter-rater correlations were similar to those reported previously (range 0.23 – 0.49) whilst test retest reliability was generally lower than would be expected (range 0.40 – 0.79). Convergent and discriminant validity are supported. Conclusion We report mixed findings with respect the psychometric properties of the Chinese translation of the SDQ. Reliability is a particular concern particularly for Peer Problems and self ratings by adolescents. There is good support for convergent validity but only partial support for structural validity. It may be possible to resolve some of these issues by carefully examining the wording and meaning of some of the current questions.
