Abstract:A widely tunable dual-color mid-infrared source is demonstrated using 1064 nm laser pumped dual-crystal optical parametric oscillator. Two broadband transparent, high optical quality BaGa 4 Se 7 crystals are non-degenerate pumped to realize independent tuning of dual-color mid-infrared wave. With one idler fixed at 4.31 μm, the other idler is independently tunable from 3.05 μm to 4.85 μm except a tuning gap around 4.31 μm. Pump double-pass configuration has been utilized to improve the dual-color output and reduce the OPO threshold. The maximum dual-color output energy of 4.12 mJ/pulse is obtained under pump energy of 38 mJ/pulse, corresponding to the conversion efficiency of 10.84 %. The energy ratio of dual-color output is 2.18 which could be further reduced to achieve balanced output by increasing the pump intensity. The tuning gap caused by the coupling between the parametric processes is also analyzed and the minimum frequency difference of the independent dual-color outputs is measured to be ∼0.37 THz. It is believed that such a broadband tunable, compact dual-color mid-infrared source with high output energy has great significance in the practical applications like terahertz difference frequency generation and medical diagnosis.
