Abstract:Let $\mu$ denot the infinite convolution generated by $\{(N_k,B_k)\}_{k=1}^\infty$ given by $$ \mu =\delta_{{N_1}^{-1}B_1}\ast\delta_{(N_1N_2)^{-1}B_2}\ast\dots\ast\delta_{(N_1N_2\cdots N_k)^{-1}B_k} *\cdots. $$ where $B_k$ is a complete residue system for each integer $k>0$. We write $$ \nu_{>k}=\delta_{N_{k+1}^{-1} B_{k+1}} * \delta_{(N_{k+1} N_{k+2})^{-1} B_{k+2}} * \cdots. $$ Since the elements in $B_k$ may have very large absolute values, the infinite convolution may not be compactly supported. In this paper, we study the necessary and sufficient conditions for such infinite convolutions being a spectral measure. Generally, for such infinite convolutions, the necessary conditions for spectrality mainly depend on the properties of the polynomials generated by the complete residue systems. The main result shows that if every $B_k$ satisfies uniform discrete zero condition, and $\{\nu_{>k}\}_{k=1}^\infty$ is {\it tight}, then $\# B_k | N_k$ for all integers $k\geq 2$. For some special complete residue systems $\{B_k\}_{k=1}^\infty$, we provide the necessary and sufficient conditions for $\mu$ being a spectral measure.

Abstract:Let $\rho=(\frac{p}{q})^{\frac{1}{r}}<1$ for some $p,q,r\in\mathbb{N}$ with $(p,q)=1$ and $\mathcal{D}_{n}=\{0,1,\cdot\cdot\cdot,N_{n}-1\}$, where $N_{n}$ is prime for all $n\in\mathbb{N}$, and denote $M=\sup\{N_{n}:n=1,2,3,\ldots\}<\infty$. The associated Borel probability measure $$\mu_{\rho,\{\mathcal{D}_{n}\}}=\delta_{\rho\mathcal{D}_{1}}*\delta_{\rho^{2}\mathcal{D}_{2}}*\delta_{\rho^{3}\mathcal{D}_{3}}*\cdots$$ is called a Moran measure. Recently, Deng and Li proved that $\mu_{\rho,\{\mathcal{D}_{n}\}}$ is a spectral measure if and only if $\frac{1}{N_{n}\rho}$ is an integer for all $n\geq 2$. In this paper, we prove that if $L^{2}(\mu_{\rho, \{\mathcal{D}_{n}\}})$ contains an infinite orthogonal exponential set, then there exist infinite positive integers $n_{l}$ such that $(q,N_{n_{l}})>1$. Contrastly, if $(q,N_{n})=1$ and $(p,N_{n})=1$ for all $n\in\mathbb{N}$, then there are at most $M$ mutually orthogonal exponential functions in $L^{2}(\mu_{\rho, \{\mathcal{D}_{n}\}})$ and $M$ is the best possible. If $(q,N_{n})=1$ and $(p,N_{n})>1$ for all $n\in\mathbb{N}$, then there are any number of orthogonal exponential functions in $L^{2}(\mu_{\rho, \{\mathcal{D}_{n}\}})$.

Abstract:Let |ρ|>1 be a real number and let Q be a 2 × 2 orthogonal and involutory matrix. Let R={0,u,v}⊂Z2 such that det(u,v)≠0 and 3∤det(u,v) . In this paper, we prove that the Hilbert space L2(μρQ,R) generated by the general self-similar Sierpinski measure μρQ,R has an orthonormal basis of the form EΛ=e2πi〈λ,x〉:λ∈Λ with Λ⊂R2 , i.e., μρQ,R is a spectral measure, if and only if there exist three integers d,m,n such that d2∣(m2+n2) and ρQ=3md3nd3nd−3md in the standard expression. This provides new and different characterization of spectrality of self-similar measures in the plane and gives a counterexample to Łaba–Wang's conjecture in two dimension.

Our main results give several sufficient conditions so that the infinite convolution to be a spectral measure, that is, its Hilbert space admits a family of orthonormal basis of exponentials. As a concrete application, we give a complete characterization on the spectral property for certain infinite convolution on the plane in terms of admissible pairs.

Abstract:We consider multiple orthogonal polynomials associated with the exponential cubic weight e−x3 over two contours in the complex plane. We study the basic properties of these polynomials, including the Rodrigues formula and nearest-neighbor recurrence relations. It turns out that the recurrence coefficients are related to a discrete Painlevé equation. The asymptotics of the recurrence coefficients, the ratio of the diagonal multiple orthogonal polynomials and the (scaled) zeros of these polynomials are also investigated.

Abstract:Let be a compatible tower on and let be the Moran measure generated by infinite convolutions of discrete measures induced by them. In this paper, we first prove that under certain situations, the compatible tower condition can ensure that is a spectral measure, that is the Hilbert space admits an exponential orthonormal basis. Furthermore, if we restrict to be a class of generalized Sierpinski-type family, then we obtain that the existence of compatible tower and the spectrality of are equivalent.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the spectrality of a class of Moran measures $\mu_{\mathcal{P},\mathcal{D}}$ on $\mathbb{R}$ generated by $\{(p_n,\mathcal{D}_n)\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$, where $\mathcal{P}=\{p_n\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ is a sequence of positive integers with $p_n>1$ and $\mathcal{D}=\{\mathcal{D}_{n}\}_{n=1}^{\infty}$ is a sequence of digit sets of $\mathbb{N}$ with the cardinality $\#\mathcal{D}_{n}\in \{2,3,N_{n}\}$. We find a countable set $\Lambda\subset\mathbb{R}$ such that the set $\{e^{-2\pi i \lambda x}|\lambda\in\Lambda\}$ is a orthonormal basis of $L^{2}(\mu_{\mathcal{P},\mathcal{D}})$ under some conditions. As an application, we show that when $\mu_{\mathcal{P},\mathcal{D}}$ is absolutely continuous, $\mu_{\mathcal{P},\mathcal{D}}$ not only is a spectral measure, but also its support set tiles $\mathbb{R}$ with $\mathbb{Z}$.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic zero distribution of type II multiple orthogonal polynomials associated with two Macdonald functions (modified Bessel functions of the second kind). On the basis of the four-term recurrence relation, it is shown that, after proper scaling, the sequence of normalized zero counting measures converges weakly to the first component of a vector of two measures which satisfies a vector equilibrium problem with two external fields. We also give the explicit formula for the equilibrium vector in terms of solutions of an algebraic equation. (C) 2010 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A new interpretation and applications of the 'Diophantine' and factorization properties of finite orthogonal polynomials in the Askey scheme are explored. The corresponding twelve polynomials are the ( q -)Racah, (dual, q -)Hahn, Krawtchouk and five types of q -Krawtchouk. These ( q -)hypergeometric polynomials, defined only for the degrees of 0,1,...,N , constitute the main part of the eigenvectors of N + 1-dimensional tri-diagonal real symmetric matrices, which correspond to the difference equations governing the polynomials. The monic versions of these polynomials all exhibit the 'Diophantine' and factorization properties at higher degrees than N . This simply means that these higher degree polynomials are zero-norm 'eigenvectors' of the N + 1-dimensional tri-diagonal real symmetric matrices. A new type of multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials belonging to these twelve polynomials could be introduced by using the higher degree polynomials as the seed solutions of the multiple Darboux transformations for the corresponding matrix eigenvalue problems. The shape-invariance properties of the simplest type of the multi-indexed polynomials are demonstrated. The explicit transformation formulas are presented.

Abstract:Let {p(n) (x)}(n greater than or equal to 0) be the set of orthonormal polynomials with respect to the exponential weight w (x) = e(-v(x)), where v (x) = x(2m) + ... is a monic polynomial of degree 2 m with m greater than or equal to 2 and is even. An asymptotic approximation is obtained for p(n)(x), as n --> infinity, which holds uniformly for 0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to O(n(1/2m)). As a corollary, a three-term asymptotic expansion is also derived for the zeros of these polynomials.

Abstract:In this paper, we study polynomials orthogonal with respect to a Pollaczek-Jacobi type weightwpJ(x,t)=e-txx alpha(1-x)beta,t >= 0,alpha>0,beta>0,x is an element of[0,1].The uniform asymptotic expansions for the monic orthogonal polynomials on the interval (0,1) and outside this interval are obtained. Moreover, near x=0, the uniform asymptotic expansion involves Airy function as sigma=2n2t ->infinity,n ->infinity, and Bessel function of order alpha as sigma=2n2t -> 0,n ->infinity; in the neighborhood of x=1, the uniform asymptotic expansion is associated with Bessel function of order beta as n ->infinity. The recurrence coefficients and leading coefficient of the orthogonal polynomials are expressed in terms of a particular Painleve III transcendent. We also obtain the limit of the kernel in the bulk of the spectrum. The double scaled logarithmic derivative of the Hankel determinant satisfies a sigma-form Painleve III equation. The asymptotic analysis is based on the Deift and Zhou's steepest descent method.

Abstract:Multiple orthogonal polynomials are a generalization of orthogonal polynomials in which the orthogonality is distributed among a number of orthogonality weights. They appear in random matrix theory in the form of special determinantal point processes that are called multiple orthogonal polynomial (MOP) ensembles. The correlation kernel in such an ensemble is expressed in terms of the solution of a Riemann-Hilbert problem, that is of size (r+1) x (r+1) in the case of r weights. A number of models give rise to a MOP ensemble, and we discuss recent results on models of non-intersecting Brownian motions, Hermitian random matrices with external source, and the two matrix model. A novel feature in the asymptotic analysis of the latter two models is a vector equilibrium problem for two or more measures, that describes the limiting mean eigenvalue density. The vector equilibrium problems involve both an external field and an upper constraint.

Abstract:In this article, we show that Fourier eigenmeasures supported on spheres with radii given by a locally finite sequence, which we call $k$-spherical measures, correspond to Fourier series exhibiting a modular-type transformation behaviour with respect to the metaplectic group. A familiar subset of such Fourier series comprises holomorphic modular forms. This allows us to construct $k$-spherical eigenmeasures and derive Poisson-type summation formulas, thereby recovering formulas of a similar nature established by Cohn-Gonçalves, Lev-Reti, and Meyer, among others. Additionally, we extend our results to higher dimensions, where Hilbert modular forms yield higher-dimensional $k$-spherical measures.
