Abstract:Mathematics quality is an important part of science and technology talents' scientific quality. To improve math quality is a crucial task of university mathematics education. With the help of college mathematical contests, the training method and approach of engineering students' mathematical quality is explored deeply. Abstract:In the first part of this paper we will introduce the activity of “Chinese Middle School Mathematical Modelling Competition” from 1997–2000. The activity consists of three parts:We offer some open mathematics application problems and let some students bring them to go home and use three days to solve them by using any tools and references. We translate some problems from Chinese into English. Many problems are very open, that means that according to analysis of real situation students can give some models to solve them. We’d like to say that students enjoy this kind of problems very much.To ask some students to complete a little papers in which the students need to find some problem in their real life and to use their mathematics and subject knowledge and methods to solve them. It is very surprises to us that we receive more than 4000 papers of students some of that are very excellent. We are very glad to introduce some papers of students in our talk.To ask some students to complete an examination of mathematics application problems. We will give some examples. There are more than 70000 students which attend the activity and they are very glad to enjoy it.

Abstract:The Summer Camp of Mathematical Modeling in China is a recently created experience designed to further Chinese students’ academic pursuits in mathematical modeling. Students are given more than three months to research on a mathematical modeling project. Researchers and teams with outstanding projects are invited to the Summer Camp to present their findings and techniques. These projects are based on real-world problems and train students to apply their mathematical knowledge into practice. Students communicate their research ideas with experts, peers, and practitioners of relevant fields during the weeklong Camp. This paper will illustrate the Summer Camp of Mathematical Modeling’s origin and motivation, organizational structure, development, sponsorships, and activities and modeling tasks.

Abstract:Writing and communication are essential skills for success in the workplace or in graduate school, yet writing and communication are often the last thing that instructors think about incorporating into a mathematics course. A mathematical modeling course provides a natural environment for writing assignments. This article is an analysis of the type of writing assigned in my mathematical modeling course. Where the assignments are unusual, they are thoroughly described and I share my experiences on what worked well and what was not as successful. Where the assignments are more traditional, I offer an analysis of problems and pitfalls in teaching writing. Formal project reports for the class teach students how to write scientific articles. Unusual reflective assignments help students integrate their learning and apply it in new contexts.

Abstract:Mathematical modeling occupies an unusual space in the undergraduate mathematics curriculum: typically an “advanced” course, it nonetheless has little to do with formal proof, the usual hallmark of advanced mathematics. Mathematics departments are thus forced to decide what role they want the modeling course to play, both as a component of the mathematics major and as a course with potential cross-disciplinary appeal. This article takes the position that a modeling course de-emphasizing mathematical formalism in favor of scientific computing, data analysis, and communication skills is both an appropriate upper-level mathematics course and an effective means of training real-world problem solvers. Designing a course that serves a broad range of students while remaining practically relevant and mathematically sophisticated can be a challenge, however. Here the author distills key features of his recent course with a group of 20 undergraduates from widely different majors. Comments about course outcomes are contextualized by a broader discussion about real-world modeling practices. The piece concludes with a list of concrete ideas about target competencies and the ways in which they can be achieved.

Abstract:Mathematical modeling literacy is one of the six core literacies in high school mathematics and occupies an important place in the objectives of the high school mathematics curriculum. "The core element of mathematical modeling literacy is to abstract mathematically from real problems, express them in mathematical language, and construct models to solve them with mathematical methods. The STEAM education concept has received much attention in the education field because of its effective integration of "science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics" in the practice of education and teaching, which not only makes up for the shortage of traditional teaching in knowledge inquiry, but also helps to improve the problems of traditional classrooms. This paper explores the development of mathematical modeling literacy in high school by drawing on the STEAM education concept, and examines the effectiveness of the integration of the two through specific teaching cases.

Abstract:Abstract Mathematical application plays an irreplaceable role in various scientific fields, especially in engineering technology and economic management. Mathematics is the basic subject of nine-year compulsory education, which occupies a large proportion on quality education in China. Mathematics learning is undoubtedly very important for engineering college students. If the university mathematics teaching integrates the mathematical modeling thought, the student will be more convenient to study the abstruse mathematics question. This method can effectively improve the teaching efficiency and students’ interest. At the same time, with the development of science and technology, computer technology has provided a lot of convenience for our study work, and the active use of computer-assisted technology in teaching can greatly improve the efficiency of education. Based on this, this article discusses the function of mathematical modeling and uses computer-aided technology to analyze the existing problems in mathematical teaching. Finally, the paper puts forward the innovative reform method of mathematics teaching.

Abstract:In this paper, a simulation assistant teaching system for mathematical modeling course based on the characteristics of the teaching in the discipline of information and computational science is developed, The simulation assistant teaching system can import the typical cases of mathematical modeling into teaching practice by computer simulation technology, and visually simulate the mathematical modeling, the solution and the results presentation processes. By using this system, students can refine their thinking of mathematical modeling effectively, and learn with the teacher actively. The application results show that the developed simulation assistant teaching system is an effective way for teaching in mathematical modeling course.

Abstract:Abstract With the development of computer, computer application technology has been widely penetrated into various industries. Among them, MATLAB is a commercial mathematical software, which is second to none in mathematical science and technology application software. In this paper, the mathematical modeling strategy is studied by MATLAB software. Mathematical modeling is an effective mode of cultivating mathematical thinking, which is of great significance to the cultivation of students’ logical thinking ability. The strong practicality of mathematical modeling cultivates students’ innovative consciousness, the diversity of problems cultivates students’ innovative ability, and the interdisciplinary nature enhances students’ innovative knowledge reserve. This paper first analyses the role of mathematics education in cultivating innovative thinking, and then puts forward effective strategies for developing mathematical modeling activities. It is hoped that the idea of mathematical modeling can be better integrated into the mathematics teaching in Colleges and universities.
