Abstract:For a sequence $M=(m_{i})_{i=0}^{\infty}$ of integers such that $m_{0}=1$, $m_{i}\geq 2$ for $i\geq 1$, let $p_{M}(n)$ denote the number of partitions of $n$ into parts of the form $m_{0}m_{1}\cdots m_{r}$. In this paper we show that for every positive integer $n$ the following congruence is true: \begin{align*} p_{M}(m_{1}m_{2}\cdots m_{r}n-1)\equiv 0\ \ \left({\rm mod}\ \prod_{t=2}^{r}\mathcal{M}(m_{t},t-1)\right), \end{align*} where $\mathcal{M}(m,r):=\frac{m}{\gcd\big(m,{\rm lcm} (1,\ldots ,r)\big)}$.

Elementary Proofs of Two Congruences for Partitions with Odd Parts Repeated at Most Twice

Abstract:In a recent article on overpartitions, Merca considered the auxiliary function $a(n)$ which counts the number of partitions of $n$ where odd parts are repeated at most twice (and there are no restrictions on the even parts). In the course of his work, Merca proved the following: For all $n\geq 0$, \begin{align*} a(4n+2) &\equiv 0 \pmod{2}, \textrm{\ \ and} \\ a(4n+3) &\equiv 0 \pmod{2}. \end{align*} Merca then indicates that a classical proof of these congruences would be very interesting. The goal of this short note is to fulfill Merca's request by providing two truly elementary (classical) proofs of these congruences.

Abstract:For a positive integer $n$, let $B_{\ell_1,\dots,\ell_r}(n)$ denote the number of $(\ell_1,\ell_2,\cdots,\ell_r)$-regular multipartitions of $n$. If $\ell_1=\ell_2=\cdots=\ell_r=\ell$, then we denote $B_{\ell_1,\dots,\ell_r}(n)$ as $B_\ell^{(r)}(n)$. In this paper, we prove several infinite families of congruences satisfied by $B_\ell^{(r)}(n)$ for different values of $\ell$ and $r$.

Abstract:In this article we exhibit new explicit families of congruences for the overpartition function, making effective the existence results given previously by Treneer. We give infinite families of congruences modulo $m$ for $m = 5, 7, 11$, and finite families for $m = 13, 17, 19$.

Abstract:In 2002, Andrews, Lewis, and Lovejoy introduced the combinatorial objects which they called \emph{partitions with designated summands}. These are built by taking unrestricted integer partitions and designating exactly one of each occurrence of a part. In that same work, Andrews, Lewis, and Lovejoy also studied such partitions wherein all parts must be odd, and they denoted the number of such partitions of size $n$ by the function $PDO(n)$. Since then, numerous authors have proven a variety of divisibility properties satisfied by $PDO(n)$. Recently, the second author proved the following internal congruences satisfied by $PDO(n)$: For all $n\geq 0$, \begin{align*} PDO(4n) &\equiv PDO(n) \pmod{4},\\ PDO(16n) &\equiv PDO(4n) \pmod{8}. \end{align*} In this work, we significantly extend these internal congruence results by proving the following new infinite family of congruences: For all $k\geq 0$ and all $n\geq 0$, $$PDO(2^{2k+3}n) \equiv PDO(2^{2k+1}n) \pmod{2^{2k+3}}.$$ We utilize several classical tools to prove this family, including generating function dissections via the unitizing operator of degree two, various modular relations and recurrences involving a Hauptmodul on the classical modular curve $X_0(6)$, and an induction argument which provides the final step in proving the necessary divisibilities. It is notable that the construction of each $2$-dissection slice of our generating function bears an entirely different nature to those studied in the past literature.

Abstract:Let $B_{u,v}(n)$ denote the number of $(u,v)$-regular bipartitions of $n$. In this article, we prove that $B_{p,m}(n)$ is always almost divisible by $p,$ where $p\geq 5$ is a prime number and $m=p_1^{\alpha_1} p_2^{\alpha_2}\cdots p_r^{\alpha_r}, $ where $\alpha_i \geq 0$ and $p_i \geq 5$ be distinct primes with $\gcd(p,m)=1$ . Further, we obtain an infinities families of congruences modulo $3$ for $B_{3,7}(n),$ $B_{3,5}(n)$ and $B_{3,2}(n)$ by using Hecke eigenform theory and a result of Newman \cite{Newmann1959}. Furthermore, we get many infinite families of congruences modulo $7$, $11$ and $13$ respectively for $B_{2,7}(n)$, $B_{2,11}(n)$ and $B_{2,13}(n),$ by employing an identity of Newman \cite{Newmann1959}. In addition, we prove infinite families of congruences modulo $2$ for $B_{4,3}(n)$, $B_{8,3}(n)$ and $B_{4,5}(n)$ by applying another result of Newman \cite{Newmann1962}.

Abstract:Let $M=(m_{i})_{i=0}^{\infty}$ be a sequence of integers such that $m_{0}=1$ and $m_{i}\geq 2$ for $i\geq 1$. In this paper we study $M$-ary partition polynomials $(p_{M}(n,t))_{n=0}^{\infty}$ defined as the coefficient in the following power series expansion: \begin{align*} \prod_{i=0}^{\infty}\frac{1}{1-tq^{M_{i}}} = \sum_{n=0}^{\infty} p_{M}(n,t)q^{n}, \end{align*} where $M_{i}=\prod_{j=0}^{i}m_{j}$. In particular, we provide a detailed description of their rational roots and show, that all their complex roots have absolute values not greater than $2$. We also study arithmetic properties of $M$-ary partition polynomials. One of our main results says that if $n=a_{0}+a_{1}M_{1}+\cdots +a_{k}M_{k}$ is a (unique) representation such that $a_{j}\in\{0,\ldots ,m_{j+1}-1\}$ for every $j$, then \begin{align*} p_{M}(n,t)\equiv t^{a_{0}}\prod t^{a_{j}}f(a_{j}+1,t^{m_{j}-1}) \pmod{g_{k}(t)}, \end{align*} where $f(a,t):=\frac{t^{a}-1}{t-1}$ and $g_{k}(t):=\gcd \big(t^{m_{1}+m_{2}-1}f(m_{2},t^{m_{1}-1}),\ldots ,t^{m_{k}+m_{k+1}-1}f(m_{k+1},t^{m_{k}-1})\big)$. This is a polynomial generalisation of the well-known characterisation modulo $m$ of the sequence of $m$-ary partition.

A bijection proof of Andrews-Merca integer partition theorem

Abstract:Andrews and Merca [J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 203 (2024), Art. 105849] recently obtained two interesting results on the sum of the parts with the same parity in the partitions of $n$ (the modulo $2$ case), the proof of which relies on generating functions. Motivated by Andrews and Merca's results, we define six statistics related to the partitions of $n$ and show that the two triples of the six statistics are equidistributed. From this equidistributed result, we derive modulo $m$ extensions of Andrews and Merca's results for all integers $m\ge 2$. The proof of the main result is based on a general bijection on the set of partitions of $n$.

Abstract: Let $b_k(n)$ denote the $k-$regular partitons of a natural number $n$. In this paper, we study the behavior of $b_k(n)$ modulo composite integers $M$ which are coprime to $6$. Specially, we prove that for arbitrary $k-$regular partiton function $b_k(n)$ and integer $M$ coprime to $6$, there are infinitely many Ramanujan-type congruences of $b_k(n)$ modulo $M$.

Abstract:The primary focus of this paper is overpartitions, a type of partition that plays a significant role in $q$-series theory. In 2006, Treneer discovered an explicit infinite family of congruences of overpartitions modulo $5$. In our research, we have identified explicit infinite families of congruences of overpartitions modulo $3,7,11$. This work reveals the connection between overpartitions and half-integral modular forms.

Elementary Proofs of Congruences for POND and PEND Partitions

Abstract:Recently, Ballantine and Welch considered various generalizations and refinements of POD and PED partitions. These are integer partitions wherein the odd parts must be distinct (in the case of POD partitions) or the even parts must be distinct (in the case of PED partitions). In the process, they were led to consider two classes of integer partitions which are, in some sense, the ``opposite'' of POD and PED partitions. They labeled these POND and PEND partitions, which are integer partitions wherein the odd parts cannot be distinct (in the case of POND partitions) or the even parts cannot be distinct (in the case of PEND partitions). In this work, we study these two types of partitions from an arithmetic perspective. Along the way, we are led to prove the following two infinite families of Ramanujan--like congruences: For all $\alpha \geq 1$ and all $n\geq 0,$ \begin{align*} pond\left(3^{2\alpha +1}n+\frac{23\cdot 3^{2\alpha}+1}{8}\right) &\equiv 0 \pmod{3}, \textrm{\ \ \ and} \\ pend\left(3^{2\alpha +1}n+\frac{17\cdot 3^{2\alpha}-1}{8}\right) &\equiv 0 \pmod{3} \end{align*} where $pond(n)$ counts the number of POND partitions of weight $n$ and $pend(n)$ counts the number of PEND partitions of weight $n$. All of the proof techniques used herein are elementary, relying on classical $q$-series identities and generating function manipulations, along with mathematical induction.
