Abstract:Ranks of partitions play an important role in the theory of partitions. They provide combinatorial interpretations for Ramanujan's famous congruences for partition functions. We establish a family of congruences modulo powers of for ranks of partitions.

Abstract:In 2007, Andrews studied the odd Durfee symbols and their odd ranks. Let $N^0(m,k,n)$ denote the number of odd Durfee symbols of $n$ with odd rank congruent to $m$ modulo $k$. Motivated by Andrews' work, many authors obtained generating functions of $N^0(m,k,n)$ from which relations between odd ranks are proved. In this paper, we establish a family of congruences for odd ranks modulo powers of $5$.

Abstract:Based on work of Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer on partition rank difference functions, and more recent work of Lovejoy and Osburn, Mao has proved several inequalities between partition ranks modulo 10, and additional results modulo 6 and 10 for the M2$$M_2$$ rank of partitions without repeated odd parts. Mao conjectured some additional inequalities. We prove some of Mao’s rank inequality conjectures for both the rank and the M2$$M_2$$ rank modulo 10 using elementary methods.

Abstract:For a sequence $M=(m_{i})_{i=0}^{\infty}$ of integers such that $m_{0}=1$, $m_{i}\geq 2$ for $i\geq 1$, let $p_{M}(n)$ denote the number of partitions of $n$ into parts of the form $m_{0}m_{1}\cdots m_{r}$. In this paper we show that for every positive integer $n$ the following congruence is true: \begin{align*} p_{M}(m_{1}m_{2}\cdots m_{r}n-1)\equiv 0\ \ \left({\rm mod}\ \prod_{t=2}^{r}\mathcal{M}(m_{t},t-1)\right), \end{align*} where $\mathcal{M}(m,r):=\frac{m}{\gcd\big(m,{\rm lcm} (1,\ldots ,r)\big)}$.

Abstract:By applying the decomposition of the pairwise matrices over a division ring, we give a new proof of Marsaglia-Styan rank formula. We also obtain some equivalent characterizations of some new rank equalities of the partitioned matrices.

Abstract:For any non-negative integer $n$ and non-zero integer $r$, let $p_r(n)$ denote Ramanujan's general partition function. By employing $q$-identities, we prove some new Ramanujan-type congruences modulo 5 for $p_r(n)$ for $r=-(5\lambda+1), -(5\lambda+3), -(5\lambda+4), -(25\lambda+1)$, $-(25\lambda+2)$, and any integer $\lambda$.

Abstract:Zhao established a curious congruence, i.e., for any prime p≥3,∑i+j+k=pi,j,k>01ijk≡−2Bp−3(modp). In this note we prove that for any prime p≥3 and positive integer r,∑i+j+k=pri,j,k∈Pp1ijk≡−2pr−1Bp−3(modpr), where Pn denotes the set of positive integers which are prime to n.

Abstract:We study the partition rank function N(r, t; n), the number of partitions with rank congruent to r modulo t. We first show that it is monotonic in n above a given bound, and then show that it equidistributed as $n \rightarrow \infty $. Using this result we prove a conjecture of Hou and Jagadeeson on the convexity of N(r, t; n).

Abstract:Beck introduced two partition statistics $NT(r,m,n)$ and $M_{\omega}(r,m,n)$,which denote the total number of parts in the partition of $n$ with rank congruent to $r$ modulo $m$ and the total number of ones in the partition of $n$ with crank congruent to $r$ modulo $m$, respectively. Abstract:It is well known that Ramanujan conjectured congruences modulo powers of $5$, $7$ and and $11$ for the partition function. These were subsequently proved by Watson (1938) and Atkin (1967). In 2009 Choi, Kang, and Lovejoy proved congruences modulo powers of $5$ for the crank parity function. The generating function for the analogous rank parity function is $f(q)$, the first example of a mock theta function that Ramanujan mentioned in his last letter to Hardy. Recently we proved congruences modulo powers of $5$ for the rank parity function, and here we extend these congruences for powers of $7$. We also show how these congruences imply congruences modulo powers of $5$ and $7$ for the coefficients of the related third order mock theta function $\omega(q)$, using Atkin-Lehner involutions and transformation results of Zwegers. Finally we a prove a family of congruences modulo powers of $7$ for the crank parity function.

Abstract:In 2009, Bringmann <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0708.0691" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0708.0691">arXiv:0708.0691</a> [math.NT] used the circle method to prove an asymptotic formula for the Fourier coefficients of rank generating functions. In this paper, we prove that Bringmann's formula, when summing up to infinity and in the case of prime modulus, gives a Rademacher-type exact formula involving sums of vector-valued Kloosterman sums. As a corollary, in an upcoming paper, we will provide a new proof of Dyson's conjectures by showing that the certain Kloosterman sums vanish.

Abstract:The main result of the paper is the existence of an infinitely many families of Ramanujan-type congruences for $b_4(n)$ and $b_6(n)$ modulo primes $m \geq 2$ and $m \geq 5$, respectively. We provide new examples of congruences for $b_4(n)$ and $b_6(n)$. Moreover, we find two infinite explicit infinite families of congruences for $b_4(n)$ modulo $3$.

Abstract:We prove general fomulas for the deviations of two overpartition ranks from the average. These formulas are in terms of Appell--Lerch series and sums of quotients of theta functions and can be used, among other things, to recover any of the numerous overpartition rank difference identities in the literature. We give two illustrations.

Abstract:Let $\overline{p}_o(n)$ denote the number of overpartitions of $n$ into odd parts. The partition function $\overline{p}_o(n)$ has been the subject of many recent studies where many explicit Ramanujan-like congruences were discovered. In this paper, we provide three linear recurrence relation for $\overline{p}_o(n)$. Several connections with partitions into parts not congruent to $2 \pmod 4$, overpartitions and partitions into distinct parts are presented in this context.

Abstract:A partition statistic ` crank' gives combinatorial interpretations for Ramanujan's famous partition congruences. In this paper, we establish an asymptotic formula, Ramanujan type congruences, and q-series identities that the number of partitions with even crank $M_e(n)$ minus the number of partitions with odd crank $M_o(n)$ satisfies. For example, we show that $M_e(5n+4)-M_o(5n+4)\equiv 0 \pmod 5.$ We also determine the exact values of $M_e(n)-M_o(n)$ in case of partitions into distinct parts, which are at most two and zero for infinitely many $n$.

Abstract:We show that Ramanujan-type congruences are preserved by the action of the shallow Hecke algebra and provide several structure results for them. We discover a dichotomy between congruences originating in Hecke eigenvalues and congruences on arithmetic progressions with cube-free periods. The scarcity of the latter was investigated recently. We explain that they provide congruences among algebraic parts of twisted central $\mathrm{L}$-values. We specialize our results to partition congruences, for which we investigate the proofs of partition congruences by Atkin and by Ono, and develop a heuristic that suggests that their approach by Hecke operators acting diagonally modulo $\ell$ on modular forms is optimal. In an extended example, we showcase how to employ our conclusions to benefit experimental work.
