Abstract:In this research, a multi-objective frequency domain-constrained static output feedback control is developed for the delayed active suspension system with wheelbase preview information. Firstly, the model of the half-vehicle active suspension system with wheelbase preview information and time delay is constructed by employing the augmented method. Secondly, in vertical vibration, the human body senses are more intense when the frequency of the external disturbance is in the range of 4–8 Hz. Therefore, a finite frequency control method is proposed for the controller design with robust <span class="mathjax-tex">\( H_{\infty } \)</span> and generalized <span class="mathjax-tex">\( H_{2} \)</span> performance. Thirdly, considering that a full online knowledge of states is not available in practical suspension systems, a static output feedback strategy is proposed to guarantee the feasibility of the controller by using a two-stage method. Finally, simulation study is given to explain the effectiveness and superiority of the presented controller.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to design a multi - objective frequency - domain - constrained static output feedback controller in a delayed active suspension system with wheelbase preview information. Specifically, the main research objectives are as follows: 1. **Improve ride comfort**: Isolate vibrations caused by road surface disturbances by reducing vehicle body vibrations, especially the vertical acceleration (\(\ddot{z}_s\)) and pitch angular acceleration (\(\ddot{\theta}\)) in the sensitive frequency range of 4 - 8 Hz. 2. **Ensure safety**: Ensure the safety of the suspension system, including: - Suspension travel limitation: The suspension travel should be less than the maximum value, that is, \(|z_{sf}(t) - z_{uf}(t)| \leq z_{f\text{max}}\) and \(|z_{sr}(t) - z_{ur}(t)| \leq z_{r\text{max}}\). - Road surface adhesion: The tires should always be in contact with the rough road surface, and the dynamic loads of the front and rear wheels should not exceed their static loads, that is, \(|k_{tf}(z_{uf}(t) - z_{rf}(t))| \leq \left(\frac{l_2}{l_1 + l_2} m_s + m_{uf}\right) g\) and \(|k_{tr}(z_{ur}(t) - z_{rr}(t))| \leq \left(\frac{l_1}{l_1 + l_2} m_s + m_{ur}\right) g\). - Actuator saturation effect: The power value of the actuator has an upper limit, and the saturation effect of the actuator should satisfy \(|u_f(t)| \leq u_{f\text{max}}\) and \(|u_r(t)| \leq u_{r\text{max}}\). 3. **Robust performance**: The designed controller should make the closed - loop system asymptotically stable considering the time delay and satisfy the following performance indicators: - \(H_\infty\) performance: The \(H_\infty\) norm of the transfer function \(T_{z_1\omega}\) from \(\omega_g(t)\) to \(z_1(t)\) is less than the minimum positive value \(\gamma_\infty\) in the selected frequency range. - Generalized \(H_2\) performance: The generalized \(H_2\) norm of the transfer function \(T_{z_2\omega}\) from \(\omega_g(t)\) to \(z_2(t)\) is less than a certain determined constraint value \(\gamma_2\). To achieve the above objectives, the paper proposes a new finite - frequency robust controller design method and uses a two - stage method to linearize non - linear matrix inequalities, thereby searching for the optimal finite - frequency robust static output feedback controller. This method not only eliminates the need for all state information but also improves the control effect and maximizes the overall performance of the active suspension system.
