Abstract:The main result is that the only non trivial closed ideal in the Banach algebra $L(L^p)$ of bounded linear operators on $L^p(0,1)$, $1\le p < \infty$, that has a left approximate identity is the ideal of compact operators. The algebra $L(L^1)$ has at least one non trivial closed ideal that has a contractive right approximate identity as well as many, including the unique maximal ideal, that do not have a right approximate identity.

Abstract:We study the lattice of closed ideals of bounded operators on two families of Banach spaces: the Baernstein spaces $B_p$ for $1<p<\infty$ and the Schreier spaces $S_p$ for $1\le p<\infty$. Our main conclusion is that there are $2^{\mathfrak{c}}$ many closed ideals that lie between the ideals of compact and strictly singular operators on each of these spaces, and also $2^{\mathfrak{c}}$ many closed ideals that contain projections of infinite rank. Counterparts of results of Gasparis and Leung using a numerical index to distinguish the isomorphism types of subspaces spanned by subsequences of the unit vector basis for the higher-order Schreier spaces play a key role in the proofs, as does the Johnson-Schechtman technique for constructing $2^{\mathfrak{c}}$ many closed ideals of operators on a Banach space.

Abstract:For a metric space $(K,d)$ the Banach space $\Lip(K)$ consists of all scalar-valued bounded Lipschitz functions on $K$ with the norm $\|f\|_{L}=\max(\|f\|_{\infty},L(f))$, where $L(f)$ is the Lipschitz constant of $f$. The closed subspace $\lip(K)$ of $\Lip(K)$ contains all elements of $\Lip(K)$ satisfying the $\lip$-condition $\lim_{0<d(x,y)\to 0}|f(x)-f(y)|/d(x,y)=0$. For $K=([0,1],| {\cdot} |^{\alpha})$, $0<\alpha<1$, we prove that $\lip(K)$ is a proper $M$-ideal in a certain subspace of $\Lip(K)$ containing a copy of $\ell^{\infty}$.

Abstract:We introduce and explore the concept of positive ideals for both linear and multilinear operators between Banach lattices. This paper delineates the fundamental principles of these new classes and provides techniques for constructing positive multi-ideals from given positive ideals. Furthermore, we present an example of a positive multi-ideal by introducing a new class, referred to as positive (p1,...,pm;r)-dominated multilinear operators. We establish a natural analogue of the Pietsch domination theorem and Kwapien's factorization theorem within this class.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a Banach algebra with the second dual $A^{**}$. If $A$ has a bounded approximate identity $(=BAI)$, then $A^{**}$ is unital if and only if $A^{**}$ has a $weak^* bounded approximate $$identity(=W^*BAI)$. If $A$ is Arens regular and $A$ \noindent has a BAI, then $A^*$ factors on both sides. In this paper we introduce new concepts $LW^*W$ and $RW^*W$- property and we show that under certain conditions if $A$ has $LW^*W$ and $RW^*W$- property, then $A$ is Arens regular and also if $A$ is Arens regular, then $A$ has $LW^*W$ and $RW^*W$- property. We also offer some applications of these new concepts for the special algebras $l^1(G), L^1(G), M(G)$, and $A(G)$.

Abstract:We characterize $M$-ideals in order smooth $\infty$-normed spaces by extending the notion of split faces of the state space to those of the quasi-state space. We also characterize approximate order unit spaces as those order smooth $\infty$-normed spaces $V$ that are $M$-ideals in $\tilde{V}.$ Here $\tilde{V}$ is the order unit space obtained by adjoining an order unit to $V.$ To prove these results, we develop an order theoretic version of the "Alfsen-Efffros' cone decomposition theorem" for order smooth $1$-normed spaces. (As a quick application of this result, we sharpen a result on the extension of bounded positive linear functionals on subspaces of order smooth $\infty$-normed spaces.)

Abstract:We establish inverse and direct theorems on best approximations in quasi-normed Abelian groups through bilateral Bernstein-Jackson inequalities with exact constants. Using integral representations for quasi-norms of functions $f$ in Lebesgue's spaces by decreasing rearrangements $f^*$ with the help of approximation $E$-functionals, error estimates are found. Examples of numerical calculations and spectral approximations of self-adjoint operators obtained by obtained estimates are given.

Abstract:A natural class of ideals, almost isometric ideals, of Banach spaces is defined and studied. The motivation for working with this class of subspaces is our observation that they inherit diameter 2 properties and the Daugavet property. Lindenstrauss spaces are known to be the class of Banach spaces that are ideals in every superspace; we show that being an almost isometric ideal in every superspace characterizes the class of Gurariy spaces.

Abstract:We consider conic inequality systems of the type$F(x)\ge_K 0$, with approximate solution $x_0$ associated to a parameter $\tau$,where $F$ is a twice Fréchet differentiable function between Hilbert spaces $X$ and $Y$, and$\ge_K$ is the partial order in $Y$ defined by anonempty convex (not necessarily closed) cone $K\subseteq Y$.We prove that, under the suitable conditions,the system $F(x)\ge_K 0$is solvable, and the ratio of the distance from $x_0$ to the solution set $S$ over the distance from $F(x_0)$ to the cone $K$ has anupper bound given explicitlyin terms of $\tau$ and $x_0$. We show that the upper bound is sharp.Applications to analytic function inequality/equality systems on Euclidean spaces are given,and the corresponding results of Dedieu [ SIAM J. Optim. , 11 (2000), pp. 411--425] are extended and significantly improved.

Abstract:We consider a class of operator-induced norms, acting as finite-dimensional surrogates to the L2 norm, and study their approximation properties over Hilbert subspaces of L2 . The class includes, as a special case, the usual empirical norm encountered, for example, in the context of nonparametric regression in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHS). Our results have implications to the analysis of M-estimators in models based on finite-dimensional linear approximation of functions, and also to some related packing problems.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a unified and compact method for proving $L^p$ Hardy and Rellich-type inequalities. The most important feature of our method is that it allows us to extend these inequalities beyond the traditional Euclidean setting. More precisely, the applications of this method span diverse contexts, including the Heisenberg group, general Carnot groups, and operators represented as the sum of squares of vector fields. Notable examples include the sub-Laplacian on Carnot groups, the Heisenberg-Greiner operator, and the Baouendi-Grushin operator.

Abstract:This paper studies a question of Bourin on noncommutative L(p )spaces. Some inequalities due to Hayajneh et al. [Norm inequalities for positive semidefinite matrices and a question of Bourin II. Int J Math. 2021;32:2150043] and Hayajneh et al. [Norm inequalities for positive semidefinite matrices and a question of Bourin III. Positivity. 2022;26:23] are extended to the case of operators in noncommutative L-p spaces associated with a semifinite von Neumann algebra. We give a partial answer to a question of Bourin on noncommutative L-p spaces. Some related submajorization inequalities are also given.

Abstract:This paper explores the concept of approximate Birkhoff-James orthogonality in the context of operators on semi-Hilbert spaces. These spaces are generated by positive semi-definite sesquilinear forms. We delve into the fundamental properties of this concept and provide several characterizations of it. Using innovative arguments, we extend a widely known result initially proposed by Magajna in [J. London. Math. Soc., 1993]. Additionally, we improve a recent result by Sen and Paul in [Math. Slovaca, 2023] regarding a characterization of approximate numerical radius orthogonality of two semi-Hilbert space operators, such that one of them is $A$-positive. Here, $A$ is assumed to be a positive semi-definite operator.

Abstract:In this paper, we present and characterize the injective hull of a two-Lipschitz operator ideals and the definition of two-Lipschitz dual operator ideal. Also we introduce two methods for creating ideals of two-Lipschitz operators from a pair of Lipschitz operator ideals. Namely, Lipschitzization and factorization method. We show the closedness, the injectivity and the symmetry of these two-Lipschitz ideals according to the closedness, injectivity and symmetry of the corresponding Lipschitz operator ideals. Some illustrative examples are given.

Abstract:We establish a general identity (Theorem 1.2) that implies both the $L^{p}$-Hardy identities and the $L^{p}$-Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg identities (Theorems 1.3 and 1.4) and $L^{p}$-Hardy inequalities and the $L^{p}$-Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities (Theorems 1.5 and 1.6)). Weighted $L^{p}$-Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities with nonradial weights are also obtained. (Theorem 1.7). Our results provide simple interpretations to the sharp constants, as well as the existence and non-existence of the optimizers, of several $L^{p}$-Hardy and $L^{p}% $-Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. As applications of our main results, we are able to establish stabilities of a class of $L^{2}$ and $L^{p}% $-Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. (Theorems 1.8 and 1.9.) We also derive the best constants and explicit extremal functions for a large family of $L^{2}$ and $L^{p}$ Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg inequalities. (Corollaries 1.1 and 1.2.)

Abstract:Let $A$ be a commutative Banach algebra with non-empty character space $\Delta(A)$. In this paper, we change the concepts of convergence and boundedness in the classical notion of bounded approximate identity. This work give us a new kind of approximate identity between bounded approximate identity and bounded weak approximate identity. More precisely, a net $\{e_{\alpha}\}$ in $A$ is a \emph{c-w approximate identity} if for each $a\in A$, the Gel'fand transform of $e_{\alpha}a$ tends to the Gel'fand transform of $a$ in the compact-open topology and we say $\{e_{\alpha}\}$ is \emph{weakly bounded} if the image of $\{e_{\alpha}\}$ under the Gel'fand transform is bounded in $C_{0}(\Delta(A))$.
