Abstract:This study focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and study of new perovskite-type materials as cathodes in SOFC. The doped perovskites were successfully synthesized with high purity. The electrochemical performance of these materials was extensively examined through the characterization of I-V-P and EIS curves at the three temperatures, 750, 800, and 850 °C, where it reveals a substantial reduction in total resistances, accompanied by an impressive increase in power densities. The cell featuring La0.01Sr0.99Co0.5Fe0.5O3 exhibited the most commendable electrochemical properties at each temperature, following which were SrCo0.5Fe0.5O3, Pr0.01Sr0.99Co0.5Fe0.5O3, and Sm0.01Sr0.99Co0.5Fe0.5O3.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to develop new high - performance solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) cathode materials. Specifically, the research focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of a series of perovskite - type materials \( \text{RE}_{0.01}\text{Sr}_{0.99}\text{Co}_{0.5}\text{Fe}_{0.5}\text{O}_3 \) doped with lanthanide elements (La, Pr, and Sm) as the cathode of SOFC. These materials are aimed at improving the electrochemical performance of the cell, especially significantly reducing the total resistance and significantly increasing the power density at high temperatures. ### Research Background - **Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC)**: SOFC is a device that can directly and efficiently convert the chemical energy in fuel into electrical energy, usually operating at a temperature of 600 - 800°C. However, high - temperature operation can lead to material diffusion, affecting the long - term stability and performance of the cell. - **Perovskite Materials**: Perovskite materials have attracted wide attention due to their excellent electrical and optical properties. They have high stability, corrosion resistance, and a flexible structure, and their properties can be adjusted by changing the chemical composition. ### Research Objectives - **Synthesize High - Purity Perovskite Materials**: Synthesize \( \text{RE}_{0.01}\text{Sr}_{0.99}\text{Co}_{0.5}\text{Fe}_{0.5}\text{O}_3 \) materials by freeze - drying method, where RE is La, Pr, and Sm respectively. - **Characterize the Electrochemical Performance of Materials**: Evaluate the electrochemical performance of materials at 750, 800, and 850°C through I - V - P curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). - **Optimize Cell Performance**: Look for the best combination of cathode materials to achieve the highest electrochemical performance and stability. ### Main Findings - **Significant Improvement in Electrochemical Performance**: At the test temperatures, the La - doped material exhibited the best electrochemical performance, followed by the undoped SrCo\(_{0.5}\)Fe\(_{0.5}\)O\(_3\), and then the Pr - and Sm - doped materials. - **Significant Reduction in Total Resistance**: The total resistance of the doped materials was significantly reduced, which helps to increase the output power density of the cell. - **Microstructure Analysis**: The materials were characterized in detail by X - ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy - dispersive X - ray spectroscopy (EDX), confirming the structure and composition of the materials. ### Conclusion This research successfully synthesized high - purity \( \text{RE}_{0.01}\text{Sr}_{0.99}\text{Co}_{0.5}\text{Fe}_{0.5}\text{O}_3 \) perovskite materials and verified their excellent performance in SOFC through electrochemical tests. In particular, the La - doped material exhibited the best electrochemical performance at all test temperatures, providing a new material choice for future SOFC applications.
