Abstract:We study the following elliptic problem involving slightly subcritical non-power nonlinearity $$\left\{\begin{array}{lll} -\Delta u =\frac{|u|^{2^*-2}u}{[\ln(e+|u|)]^\epsilon}\ \ &{\rm in}\ \Omega, \\[2mm] u= 0 \ \ & {\rm on}\ \partial\Omega, \end{array} \right.$$ where $\Omega$ is a bounded smooth domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq 3$, $2^*=\frac{2n}{n-2}$ is the critical Sobolev exponent, $\epsilon>0$ is a small parameter. By the finite dimensional Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method, we construct a sign changing bubble tower solution with the shape of a tower of bubbles as $\epsilon$ goes to zero.

Abstract:We study the asymptotic and qualitative properties of least energy radial sign-changing solutions to fractional semilinear elliptic problems of the form \[ \begin{cases} (-\Delta)^s u = |u|^{2^*_s-2-\varepsilon}u &\text{in } B_R, \\ u = 0 &\text{in }\mathbb{R}^n \setminus B_R, \end{cases} \] where $s \in (0,1)$, $(-\Delta)^s$ is the s-Laplacian, $B_R$ is a ball of $\mathbb{R}^n$, $2^*_s := \frac{2n}{n-2s}$ is the critical Sobolev exponent and $\varepsilon>0$ is a small parameter. We prove that such solutions have the limit profile of a "tower of bubbles", as $ \varepsilon \to 0^+$, i.e. the positive and negative parts concentrate at the same point with different concentration speeds. Moreover, we provide information about the nodal set of these solutions.

Abstract:Quite differently from those perturbation techniques in \cite{DM}, we use the assumption of a $C^1$-stable critical point to construct positive or sign-changing bubbling solutions to the boundary value problem $-\Delta u=\lambda u|u|^{p-2}e^{|u|^p}$ with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition in a bounded, smooth planar domain $\Omega$, when $0<p<2$ and $\lambda>0$ is a small parameter. A sufficient condition on the intersection between the nodal line of these sign-changing solutions and the boundary of the domain is founded. Moreover, for $\lambda$ small enough, we prove that when $\Omega$ is an arbitrary bounded domain, this problem has not only at least two pairs of bubbling solutions which change sign exactly once and whose nodal lines intersect the boundary, but also a bubbling solution which changes sign exactly twice or three times; when $\Omega$ has an axial symmetry, this problem has a bubbling solution which alternately changes sign arbitrarily many times along the axis of symmetry through the domain.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following quasilinear Kirchhoff-Schrodinger-Poisson system: {-(a + b integral(R3) vertical bar del u vertical bar(2) dx) Delta u +V(x)u - 1/2u Delta(u(2)) + phi u = g(u), x is an element of R-3, -Delta phi = u(2), x is an element of R-3, where a, b are positive constants, V(x) is a smooth potential function and g is an appropriate nonlinear function. To overcome the technical difficulties caused by the quasilinear term, the perturbation method of adding 4-Laplacian operator is adapted to consider the perturbation problem, so that the corresponding functional has both smoothness and compactness in the appropriate space. Moreover, when g satisfies the appropriate hypotheses, a sign-changing solution u(0) of above problem can be obtained by taking advantage of constraint variational method, the quantitative deformation lemma and approximation technique, which has precisely two nodal domains.

Abstract:In this paper, the Saddle-point theorems are generalized to a new version by showing that there exists a “sign-changing” saddle point besides zero. The abstract result is applied to the semilinear elliptic boundary value problem-Δu=f(x,u)inΩ,u=0on∂Ωand the Schrödinger equation -Δu+Vλ(x)u=f(x,u),x∈RN,u(x)→0as|x|→∞,where Ω⊂RN is a bounded domain with smooth boundary ∂Ω; the Schrödinger operator -Δ+Vλ has both eigenvalues and essential spectrum. Abstract:We prove the existence of two smooth families of unbounded domains in $\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$ with $N\geq1$ such that \begin{equation} -\Delta u=\lambda u\,\, \text{in}\,\,\Omega, \,\, u=0,\,\,\partial_\nu u=\text{const}\,\,\text{on}\,\,\partial\Omega\nonumber \end{equation} admits a sign-changing solution. The domains bifurcate from the straight cylinder $B_1\times \mathbb{R}$, where $B_1$ is the unit ball in $\mathbb{R}^N$. These results can be regarded as counterexamples to the Berenstein conjecture on unbounded domain. Unlike most previous papers in this direction, a very delicate issue here is that there may be two-dimensional kernel space at some bifurcation point. Thus a Crandall-Rabinowitz type bifurcation theorem from high-dimensional kernel space is also established to achieve the goal.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the discrete logarithmic Kirchhoff equation $$ -\left(a+b \int_{\mathbb{Z}^3}|\nabla u|^{2} d \mu\right) \Delta u+(\lambda h(x)+1) u=|u|^{p-2}u \log u^{2}, \quad x\in \mathbb{Z}^3, $$ where $a,b>0, p>6$ and $\lambda$ is a positive parameter. Under suitable assumptions on $h(x)$, we prove the existence and asymptotic behavior of least energy sign-changing solutions for the equation by the method of Nehari manifold.

When beta = 0, this turn to be the well-known Brezis-Nirenberg problem. We show that, for each fixed beta < 0, this system has a sign-changing solution in the following sense: one component changes sign and has exactly two nodal domains, while the other one is positive. We also study the asymptotic behavior of these solutions as beta -> -infinity and phase separation appears. Precisely, two components of these solutions tend to repel each other and converge to solutions of the Brezis-Nirenberg problem in segregated regions.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the logarithmic elliptic equations with critical exponent \begin{equation} \begin{cases} -\Delta u=\lambda u+ |u|^{2^*-2}u+\theta u\log u^2, \\ u \in H_0^1(\Omega), \quad \Omega \subset \R^N. \end{cases} \end{equation} Here, the parameters $N\geq 6$, $\lambda\in \R$, $\theta>0$ and $ 2^*=\frac{2N}{N-2} $ is the Sobolev critical exponent. We prove the existence of sign-changing solution with exactly two nodal domain for an arbitrary smooth bounded domain $\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^{N}$. When $\Omega=B_R(0)$ is a ball, we also construct infinitely many radial sign-changing solutions with alternating signs and prescribed nodal characteristic.

Abstract:On a closed Riemannian manifold $(M^n ,g)$ with a proper isoparametric function $f$ we consider the equation $\Delta^2 u -\alpha \Delta u +\beta u = u^q$, where $\alpha$ and $\beta$ are positive constants satisfying that $\alpha^2 \geq 4 \beta$. We let ${\bf m}$ be the minimum of the dimensions of the focal varieties of $f$ and $q_f = \frac{n-{\bf m}+4}{n-{\bf m}-4}$, $q_f = \infty$ if $n\leq {\bf m}+4$. We prove the existence of infinitely many nodal solutions of the equation assuming that $1<q<q_f$. The solutions are $f$-invariant. To obtain the result, first we prove a $C^0-$estimate for positive $f$-invariant solutions of the equation. Then we prove the existence of mountain pass solutions with arbitrarily large energy.

Abstract:Some parameter-depending linking theorems are established, which allow to produce a bounded and sign-changing Palais–Smale sequence. For even functionals, a parameter-depending fountain theorem is obtained which provides infinitely many bounded and sign-changing Palais–Smale sequences. A variant mountain pass theorem is built in cones which yields bounded, positive and negative Palais–Smale sequences. The usual Palais–Smale type compactness condition and its variants are completely not necessary for these theories. More exact locations of the critical sequences can be determined. The abstract results are applied to the Schrödinger equation with (or without) critical Sobolev exponents:−Δu+V(x)u=β|u|2*−2u+f(x,u),x∈RN,β⩾0, where 2* is the critical Sobolev exponent. The existence of (multiple) sign-changing solutions is obtained. The positive and negative solutions are also gained as by-products. We will also show that this Schrödinger problem with jumping nonlinearity is independent of the Fučík spectrum.

Abstract:We consider the following problem involving supercritical exponent and polyharmonic operator: $$\begin{aligned} (-\Delta )^mu=K(|y|)u^{m^*-1+\varepsilon }, \;u>0, \hbox { in } B_1(0), \; u \in {\mathcal {D}}_0^{m,2}(B_1(0)), \end{aligned}$$ where $$B_1(0)$$ is the unit ball in $${\mathbb {R}}^{N}$$ , $$m^*=\frac{2N}{N-2m}$$ is the critical exponent, $$\; N\ge 2m+2$$ , $$ m \in {\mathbb {N}}_+$$ , $$\varepsilon > 0$$ , K(|y|) is a nonnegative bounded function. We prove that if $$\varepsilon > 0$$ is small enough, this problem has large number of bubble solutions, and the number of its bubbles varies with the parameter $$\varepsilon $$ at the order $$\varepsilon ^{-1/(N-2m+1)}$$ as $$\varepsilon \rightarrow 0^+$$ . Moreover, all bubbles of the solutions approach the boundary of $$B_1(0)$$ as $$\varepsilon $$ goes to $$0^+$$ .

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following Schrödinger equations with critical growth−Δu+(λa(x)−δ)u=|u|2⁎−2u,x∈RN, where N≥4, 2⁎ is the critical Sobolev exponent, a(x)≥0 and its zero sets are not empty, λ>0 is a parameter, δ>0 is a constant such that the operator (−Δ+λa(x)−δ) might be indefinite for λ large. We prove that if the zero sets of a(x) have several isolated connected components Ω1,⋯,Ωk such that the interior of Ωi(i=1,2,…,k) is not empty and ∂Ωi(i=1,2,…,k) is smooth. Then for λ sufficiently large, the equation admits, for any i∈{1,2,⋯,k}, a solution which is trapped in a neighborhood of Ωi. The key ingredients of the paper are using a flow argument and a combination of global linking and local linking.

Abstract:In this article, we establish the existence of solutions to the following critical Hartree equation \begin{align*} \begin{cases} -\Delta u=\left(\int_{\Omega_\varepsilon}\frac{u^{2_{\mu}^*}}{|x-y|^{\mu}}dy\right)u^{2_{\mu}^*-1}, &\text{ in } \Omega_\varepsilon, \\ u=0, &\text{ on } \partial\Omega_\varepsilon, \end{cases} \end{align*} where $2_{\mu}^*=\frac{2N-\mu}{N-2}$ is the upper critical exponent in the sense of the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality, $N\geq 5$, $0<\mu<4$ with $\mu$ sufficiently close to $0$, $\Omega_\varepsilon:=\Omega\backslash B(0,\varepsilon)$ and $\Omega$ is a bounded smooth domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, which contains the origin, and $\varepsilon$ is a positive parameter. As $\varepsilon$ goes to zero, we construct bubble solution which blows up at the origin.

Abstract:We study the following coupled Schrödinger equations which have appeared as several models from mathematical physics:{−Δu1+λ1u1=μ1u13+βu1u22,x∈Ω,−Δu2+λ2u2=μ2u23+βu12u2,x∈Ω,u1=u2=0on ∂Ω. Here Ω⊂RN (N=2,3) is a smooth bounded domain, λ1,λ2, μ1,μ2 are all positive constants. We show that, for each k∈N there exists βk>0 such that this system has at least k sign-changing solutions (i.e., both two components change sign) and k semi-nodal solutions (i.e., one component changes sign and the other one is positive) for each fixed β∈(0,βk).

Abstract:We consider the following anisotropic sinh-Poisson tpye equation with a Hardy or Hénon term: $$-\mathrm{div} (a(x)\nabla u)+ a(x)u=\varepsilon^2a(x)|x-q|^{2\alpha}(e^u-e^{-u}) \quad\mathrm{in}\quad \Omega,$$ $$\frac{\partial u}{\partial n}=0,\quad \mathrm{on}\quad \partial\Omega,$$ where $\varepsilon>0$, $q\in \bar\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^2$, $\alpha \in(-1,\infty)- \mathbb{N}$, $\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^2$ is a smooth bounded domain, $n$ is the unit outward normal vector of $\partial \Omega$ and $a(x)$ is a smooth positive function defined on $\bar\Omega$. From finite dimensional reduction method, we proved that this problem has a sequence of sign-changing solutions with arbitrarily many interior spikes accumulating to $q$, provided $q\in \Omega$ is a local maximizer of $a(x)$. However, if $q\in \partial \Omega$ is a strict local maximum point of $a(x)$ and satisfies $\langle \nabla a(q),n \rangle=0$, we proved that this problem has a family of sign-changing solutions with arbitrarily many mixed interior and boundary spikes accumulating to $q$. Under the same condition, we could also construct a sequence of blow-up solutions for the following problem $$ -\mathrm{div} (a(x)\nabla u)+ a(x)u=\varepsilon^2a(x)|x-q|^{2\alpha}e^u\quad \mathrm{in} \quad\Omega,$$ $$\frac{\partial u}{\partial n}=0, \quad \mathrm{on}\quad \partial\Omega.$$
