Abstract:For any non-zero complex number $q$, excluding finitely many roots of unity of small order, a linear basis for the $\mathrm{SL}(n)$ skein algebra of the twice punctured sphere is constructed. In particular, the skein algebra is a commutative polynomial algebra in $n-1$ generators, where each generator is represented by an explicit $\mathrm{SL}(n)$ web, without crossings, on the surface. This includes the case $q=1$, where the skein algebra is identified with the coordinate ring of the $\mathrm{SL}(n)$ character variety of the twice punctured sphere. The proof of both the spanning and linear independence properties of the basis depends on the so-called $\mathrm{SL}(n)$ quantum trace map, due originally to Bonahon-Wong in the case $n=2$. A consequence of the proof is that the polynomial algebra sits as a distinguished subalgebra of the Lê-Sikora $\mathrm{SL}(n)$ stated skein algebra of the annulus. We end by discussing the relationship with Fock-Goncharov duality.

Skein relations for punctured surfaces

Abstract:We investigate skein relations in cluster algebras from punctured surfaces, extending the work of Çanakçi-Schiffler and Musiker-Williams on unpunctured surfaces. Using a combinatorial expansion formula by O{ğ}uz-Yıldırım and Pilaud-Reading-Schroll, we provide explicit formulas for these relations. This work demonstrates that the punctured analogues of the bangle and bracelet functions form spanning sets for cluster algebras associated with a punctured surfaces. For surfaces with boundary and closed surfaces of genus 0, we further show that the bangles and bracelets form bases.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and a fixed invertible element $q^{\frac{1}{2}}$. Let $\mathcal{S}_n$ denote the Kauffman bracket skein algebra of the planar surface $\Sigma_{0,n+1}$ over $R$. When $q+q^{-1}$ is invertible in $R$, we find a generating set for $\mathcal{S}_n$, and show that the ideal of defining relations is generated by relations of degree at most $6$ supported by certain subsurfaces homeomorphic to $\Sigma_{0,k+1}$ with $k\le 6$. When $q+q^{-1}$ is not invertible, we find another generating set for $\mathcal{S}_n$, and show that the ideal of defining relations is generated by certain relations of degree at most $2n+2$.

Abstract:The sliced skein algebra of a closed surface of genus $g$ with $m$ punctures, $\mathfrak{S}=\Sigma_{g,m}$, is the quotient of the Kauffman bracket skein algebra $\mathcal{S}_\xi(\mathfrak{S})$ corresponding to fixing the scalar values of its peripheral curves. We show that the sliced skein algebra of a finite type surface is a domain if the ground ring is a domain. When the quantum parameter $\xi$ is a root of unity we calculate the center of the sliced skein algebra and its PI-degree. Among applications we show that any smooth point of a sliced character variety is a fully Azumaya point of the skein algebra $\mathcal{S}_\xi(\mathfrak{S})$. For any $SL_2(\mathbb{C})$--representation $\rho$ of the fundamental group of an oriented connected 3-manifold $M$ and a root of unity $\xi$ with odd $ord(\xi^2)$, we introduce the $\rho$-reduced skein module $\mathcal{S}_{\xi,\rho}(M)$. We show that $\mathcal{S}_{\xi,\rho}(M)$ has dimension 1 when $M$ is closed and $\rho$ is irreducible. We also show that if $\rho$ is irreducible the $\rho$-reduced skein module of a handlebody, as a module over the skein algebra of its boundary, is simple and has the dimension equal to the PI-degree of the skein algebra of its boundary.

Abstract:We develop a theory of stated SL(n )‐skein modules, Sn(M,N) , of 3‐manifolds M marked with intervals N in their boundaries. These skein modules, generalizing stated SL(2)‐modules of the first author, stated SL(3)‐modules of Higgins', and SU(n)‐skein modules of the second author, consist of linear combinations of framed, oriented graphs, called n ‐webs, with ends in N , considered up to skein relations of the Uq(sln) ‐Reshetikhin–Turaev functor on tangles, involving coupons representing the anti‐symmetrizer and its dual. We prove the Splitting Theorem asserting that cutting of a marked 3‐manifold M along a disk resulting in a 3‐manifold M′ yields a homomorphism Sn(M)→Sn(M′) for all n . That result allows to analyze the skein modules of 3‐manifolds through the skein modules of their pieces. The theory of stated skein modules is particularly rich for thickened surfaces M=Σ×(−1,1) , in whose case, Sn(M) is an algebra, denoted by Sn(Σ) . One of the main results of this paper asserts that the skein algebra of the ideal bigon is isomorphic with Oq(SL(n)) and it provides simple geometric interpretations of the product, coproduct, counit, the antipode, and the cobraided structure on Oq(SL(n)) . (In particular, the coproduct is given by a splitting homomorphism.) We show that for surfaces with boundary Σ every splitting homomorphism is injective and that Sn(Σ) is a free module with a basis induced from the Kashiwara–Lusztig canonical bases. Additionally, we show that a splitting of a thickened bigon near a marking defines a right Oq(SL(n)) ‐comodule structure on Sn(M) , or dually, a left Uq(sln) ‐module structure. Furthermore, we show that the skein algebra of surfaces Σ1,Σ2 glued along two sides of a triangle is isomorphic with the braided tensor product Sn(Σ1)⊗̲Sn(Σ2) of Majid. These results allow for geometric interpretation of further concepts in the theory of quantum groups, for example, of the braided products and of Majid's transmutation operation. Building upon the above results, we prove that the factorization homology with coefficients in the category of representations of Uq(sln) is equivalent to the category of left modules over Sn(Σ) for surfaces Σ with ∂Σ=S1 . We also establish isomorphisms of our skein algebras with the quantum moduli spaces of Alekseev–Schomerus and with the internal algebras of the skein categories for these surfaces and g=sl(n) .

It is shown that to each embedded graph $G\subset\Sigma$ satisfying that $\Sigma\setminus G$ is homeomorphic to a disk and some other mild conditions, one can associate a generating set for $\mathcal{S}(\Sigma;R)$, and the ideal of defining relations is generated by relations of degree at most $6$ supported by certain small subsurfaces.

Abstract:We prove that the quantum moduli algebra associated to a possibly punctured compact oriented surface and a complex semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ is a Noetherian and finitely generated ring; if the surface has punctures, we prove also that it has no non-trivial zero divisors. Moreover, we show that the quantum moduli algebra is isomorphic to the skein algebra of the surface, defined by means of the Reshetikhin-Turaev functor for the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{g})$, and which coincides with the Kauffman bracket skein algebra when $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{sl}_2$.

Abstract:We generalize the positivity conjecture on (Kauffman bracket) skein algebras to Roger–Yang skein algebras. To generalize it, we use Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind to give candidates of positive bases. Moreover, the polynomials form a lower bound in the sense of [9] and [10]. We also discuss a relation between the polynomials and the centers of Roger–Yang skein algebras when the quantum parameter is a complex root of unity.

Abstract:We study the skein algebras of surfaces associated to the exceptional Lie group $G_2,$ using Kuperberg webs. We identify two 2-variable polynomials, $P_n(x,y)$ and $Q_n(x,y),$ and use threading operations along knots to construct a family of central elements in the $G_2$ skein algebra of a surface, $\mathcal{S}_q^{G_2}(\Sigma),$ when the quantum parameter $q$ is a $2n\text{-th}$ root of unity. We verify these elements are central using elementary skein-theoretic arguments. We also obtain a result about the uniqueness of the so-called transparent polynomials $P_n$ and $Q_n.$ Our methods involve a detailed study of the skein modules of the annulus and the twice-marked annulus.

Abstract:We extend some results of Bonahon, Bullock, Turaev and Wong concerning the skein algebras of closed surfaces to L^e's stated skein algebra associated to open surfaces. We prove that the stated skein algebra with deforming parameter +1 embeds canonically into the centers of the stated skein algebras whose deforming parameter is an odd root unity. We also construct an isomorphism between the stated skein algebra at +1 and the algebra of regular function of a generalization of the SL2-character variety of the surface. As a result, we associate to each isomorphism class of irreducible or local representations of the stated skein algebra, an invariant which is a point in the character variety.

Abstract:We propose a skein model for the quantum cluster algebras of surface type with coefficients. We introduce a skein algebra $\mathscr{S}_{\Sigma,\mathbb{W}}^{A}$ of a walled surface $(\Sigma,\mathbb{W})$, and prove that it has a quantum cluster structure. The walled surfaces naturally generalize the marked surfaces with multi-laminations, which have been used to describe the quantum cluster algebras of geometric type for marked surfaces by Fomin--Thurston [FT18]. Moreover, we give skein theoretic interpretation for some of quasi-homomorphisms [Fra16] between these quantum cluster algebras.

Abstract:Continuing to our previous work [IY21](<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2101.00643" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2101.00643">arXiv:2101.00643</a>) on the $\mathfrak{sl}_3$-case, we introduce a skein algebra $\mathscr{S}_{\mathfrak{sp}_4,\Sigma}^{q}$ consisting of $\mathfrak{sp}_4$-webs on a marked surface $\Sigma$ with certain "clasped" skein relations at special points, and investigate its cluster nature. We also introduce a natural $\mathbb{Z}_q$-form $\mathscr{S}_{\mathfrak{sp}_4,\Sigma}^{\mathbb{Z}_q} \subset \mathscr{S}_{\mathfrak{sp}_4,\Sigma}^q$, while the natural coefficient ring $\mathcal{R}$ of $\mathscr{S}_{\mathfrak{sp}_4,\Sigma}^q$ includes the inverse of the quantum integer $[2]_q$. We prove that its boundary-localization $\mathscr{S}_{\mathfrak{sp}_4,\Sigma}^{\mathbb{Z}_q}[\partial^{-1}]$ is included into a quantum cluster algebra $\mathscr{A}^q_{\mathfrak{sp}_4,\Sigma}$ that quantizes the function ring of the moduli space $\mathcal{A}_{Sp_4,\Sigma}^\times$. Moreover, we obtain the positivity of Laurent expressions of elevation-preserving webs in a similar way to [IY21](<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2101.00643" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2101.00643">arXiv:2101.00643</a>). We also propose a characterization of cluster variables in the spirit of Fomin--Pylyavksyy [FP16](<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1210.1888" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1210.1888">arXiv:1210.1888</a>) in terms of the $\mathfrak{sp}_4$-webs, and give infinitely many supporting examples on a quadrilateral.

Abstract:We study the skein algebra of the genus 2 surface and its action on the skein module of the genus 2 handlebody. We compute this action explicitly, and we describe how the module decomposes over certain subalgebras in terms of polynomial representations of double affine Hecke algebras. Finally, we show that this algebra is isomorphic to the $t=q$ specialisation of the genus two spherical double affine Hecke algebra recently defined by Arthamonov and Shakirov.

Abstract:We investigate two algebra of curves on a topological surface with punctures - the cluster algebra of surfaces defined by Fomin, Shapiro, and Thurston, and the generalized skein algebra constructed by Roger and Yang. By establishing their compatibility, we resolve Roger-Yang's conjecture on the deformation quantization of the decorated Teichmuller space. We also obtain several structural results on the cluster algebra of surfaces. The cluster algebra of a positive genus surface is not finitely generated, and it differs from its upper cluster algebra.

Abstract:To a compact oriented surface of genus at most one with boundary, we associate a quantized $K$-theoretic Coulomb branch in the sense of Braverman, Finkelberg, and Nakajima. In the case where the surface is a three- or four-holed sphere or a one-holed torus, we describe a relationship between this quantized Coulomb branch and the Kauffman bracket skein algebra of the surface. We formulate a general conjecture relating these algebras.

Abstract:We introduce a joint generalization, called LRY skein algebras, of Kauffman bracket skein algebras (of surfaces) that encompasses both Roger-Yang skein algebras and stated skein algebras. We will show that, over an arbitrary ground ring which is a commutative domain, the LRY skein algebras are domains and have degenerations (by filtrations) equal to monomial subalgebras of quantum tori. For surfaces without interior punctures, this integrality generalizes a result of Moon and Wong to the most general ground ring. We also calculate the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of LRY algebras and show they are Noetherian if the ground ring is. Moreover they are orderly finitely generated. To study the LRY algebras and prove the above-mentioned results, we construct quantum traces, both the so-called X-version for all surfaces and also an A-version for a smaller class of surfaces. We also introduce a modified version of Dehn-Thurston coordinates for curves which are more suitable for the study of skein algebras as they pick up the highest degree terms of products in certain natural filtrations.
