Abstract:Dr. Brian Collier, the former Editor‐in‐Chief of the Journal of Neurochemistry from 1996 to 2006, passed away January 4th, 2024. Brian's illustrious career spanned the fields of neurochemistry and pharmacology. He published his findings on mechanisms of acetylcholine synthesis and storage in the Journal of Neurochemistry, and his contributions remain landmarks in neurochemical research. Abstract:Journal of Dental Research, Ahead of Print. Harold (Hal) C. Slavkin, DDS, the 22nd president of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (1993 to 1994), died on December 22, 2023. During a career that spanned almost 6 decades, Hal distinguished himself as an international authority on craniofacial biology and an advocate for oral health equity. He served as dean of the University of Southern California's dental school, founded the school's Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology, created the nation's first PhD program in craniofacial biology, and served as the sixth director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. Hal's studies of the molecular and cellular underpinnings of craniofacial malformations prepared him to champion translational research later in his career, when his work with patient advocates revealed the importance of applying new discoveries to clinical practice. A visionary thinker, skilled administrator, progressive educator, compelling communicator, researcher, scholar, and mentor, Hal was known as a Renaissance leader. He rejoiced in fostering collaborative synergies among people and organizations. Throughout his life, family was his central grounding force. He and his wife, Lois, advanced a wide range of social and community initiatives and took great pride in their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We remember Hal for his indelible spirit, unflappable enthusiasm for science, fierce advocacy for social justice, and infectious zest for life. Here, we outline his multidimensional accomplishments through the lenses of academia, government, and nonprofit organizations. Although it is with heavy hearts that we bid goodbye to this remarkable man, our spirits are lightened by the many gifts he left behind.

Abstract:The journal Nucleosides, Nucleotides & Nucleic Acids initiated publication in 1982, and I have had the privilege of being the Executive Editor since that time, and we are now in volume 43 for 2024. Last year I decided that it was time (well past time, I think) to retire and that someone younger and with new ideas and enthusiasm should take over. I suggested to Taylor & Francis that they consider our Associate Editor for Europe, Dr. Suzanne Peyrottes of the University of Montpellier. After appropriate consideration they have appointed Dr. Peyrottes as the Executive Editor, and I am sure that she will do an outstanding job.

After a long wait of almost 12 years from the first stand, the scientific journal of the Department of Analyst Health (Medical Laboratory Technology) Universitas Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya can be published. BJMLT is published every 6 months (2 issues/year) every October and April. The aim of this journal is to publish high-quality articles dedicated to all aspects of the latest outstanding developments in the field but not limited to Blood transfusion, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Histopathology, Immunology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Toxicology, Food and Beverage Analysis, Molecular Biology, Medical Biology, and related fields that are of interest to medical laboratory technologies, such as epidemiology, health promotion, professional ethics, and laboratory management, It was first published online in October 2018 using Open Journal System (OJS) 3.1 platform with e-ISSN 2622-6111 by URL http://journal.umpr.ac.id/index.php/bjmlt. This edition contains 5 articles on Hematology, Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, and Epidemiology. Editorial boards are fully aware that there is still room for improvement in this edition, hence with all humility, willing to accept constructive suggestions and feedback for improvements to the publication for the next editions. The publication of BJMLT certainly participates in disseminating the results of research and review of science and technology development conducted by lecturers and researchers from UM Palangkaraya and other universities. Minimally Invasive Therapy & Allied Technologies

Abstract:In recent months, there has been a gradual shift in the direction of the journal Minimally Invasive Therapy and Allied Technologies (MITAT). Eiji Kanehira has retired as editor-in-chief but will remain active as editor emeritus. It is customary for the new editor to say something about his predecessor. In many cases, the relationship between the two is limited to occasional meetings during professional events. This is not the situation here, as with Eiji we share the privilege of a common mentor, Gerhard Buess, founder of this journal, thus having enjoyed a dear personal friendship for many years.

Abstract:On March 19-20, 2017; Howard University hosted a Festschrift inspired by Dr. Leffall's writings (Fig. 1). The celebrants highlighted the broad spectrum of Dr. Leffall's contributions in mentorship, leadership in American Surgery, breast cancer, endocrine cancer, pancreatic cancer, and familial polyposis coli. Perhaps most inspirational was the awe inspiring consistency the presenters demonstrated in describing the personal characteristics Dr. Leffall brings to his academic discourse: his encyclopedic knowledge and recall, his charm, eloquence, humility, and his total dedication to the patient, his students, and trainees. We are greatly indebted to Kirby Bland M.D., FACS for offering the pages of The American Journal of Surgery to illuminate this celebration.

Abstract:Radiation oncology, medicine, and the world lost one of its most kindhearted and gifted leaders and mentors on 1 March 2024, with the passing of Dr. C. Norman Coleman. His life was fully dedicated to service to others and marked by numerous achievements, providing inspirational mentoring, caring, and generosity. His impact on those he touched directly and on all who benefited from his leadership in cancer research and treatment is impossible to calculate. It is a tragic irony that a giant in the field succumbed to advanced cancer. Although much progress has been made in cancer diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Coleman's loss illustrates that our work is far from being done.
