Numerical Heat Transfer Part A Applications
Abstract:The current computational work investigates the buoyancy-driven flow and heat transfer in and around an Infrared suppression device (IRS) with perforated cylindrical funnels. It reports the effects of three critical parameters: the louver size (0.025≤d/D≤0.2), diameter ratio of the funnel (1.02≤DR≤1.3), and Rayleigh number (1010≤Ra≤1012) on the heat transfer rate, mass suction rate, thermal plume, and velocity vectors. It also proposes suitable correlations for the average Nusselt number and mass suction rate, having an accuracy of 5%, and 6%, respectively. The study's outcomes show that the heat transfer rate increases with the louver size, only up to a particular value of diameter ratio, beyond which it reduces. However, the heat transfer rate with a louvered funnel is more than the plane funnels, except when DR =1.15 and 1.2 and d/ D = 0.2 (approximately). The work also reports the temperature versus time curve for the IRS.
