Abstract:The notion of trivial extension of a ring by a module has been extensively studied and used in ring theory as well as in various other areas of research like cohomology theory, representation theory, category theory and homological algebra. In this paper we extend this classical ring construction by associating a ring to a ring $R$ and a family $M=(M_i)_{i=1}^{n}$ of $n$ $R$-modules for a given integer $n\geq 1$. We call this new ring construction an $n$-trivial extension of $R$ by $M$. In particular, the classical trivial extension will be just the $1$-trivial extension. Thus we generalize several known results on the classical trivial extension to the setting of $n$-trivial extensions and we give some new ones. Various ring-theoretic constructions and properties of $n$-trivial extensions are studied and a detailed investigation of the graded aspect of $n$-trivial extensions is also given. We end the paper with an investigation of various divisibily properties of $n$-trivial extensions. In this context several open questions arise.

Abstract:Let $R\ltimes M$ be a trivial extension of a ring $R$ by an $R$-$R$-bimodule $M$. We first study how to construct torsion pairs over $R\ltimes M$ from torsion pairs over $R$. Some characterizations of finitely generated (presented) modules, flat modules and coherent rings relative to a torsion pair over $R\ltimes M$ are obtained. Then we discuss the transfers of torsion pairs over $R\ltimes M$ to $R$. Finally, some applications are given in Morita context rings.

Extending torsors under quasi-finite flat group schemes

Abstract:Let $R$ be a discrete valuation ring of field of fractions $K$ and of residue field $k$ of characteristic $p > 0$. In an earlier work, we studied the question of extending torsors on $K$-curves into torsors over $R$-regular models of the curves in the case when the structural $K$-group scheme of the torsor admits a finite flat model over $R$. In this paper, we first give a simpler description of the problem in the case where the curve is semistable. Secondly, if $R$ is assumed to be Henselian and Japanese, we solve the problem of extending torsors even if the structural group does not admit a finite flat $R$-model.

Abstract:Let R be a ring. A left R-module M (respectively right R-module N) is called FI-injective (respectively FI-flat) if Ext1(G,M)=0 (respectively Tor1(N,G)=0) for any FP-injective left R-module G. Suppose R is a left coherent ring. It is shown that a left R-module M is FI-injective if and only if M is a direct sum of an injective left R-module and a reduced FI-injective left R-module; a finitely presented right R-module M is FI-flat if and only if M is a cokernel of a flat preenvelope of a right R-module. These modules together with the left derived functors of Hom are used to study the FP-injective dimensions of modules and rings.

Abstract:Let $S/R$ be a Frobenius extension with $_RS_R$ centrally projective over $R$. We show that if $_R\omega$ is a Wakamatsu tilting module then so is $_SS\otimes_R\omega$, and the natural ring homomorphism from the endomorphism ring of $_R\omega$ to the endomorphism ring of $_SS\otimes_R\omega$ is a Frobenius extension in addition that pd$(\omega_T)$ is finite, where $T$ is the endomorphism ring of $_R\omega$. We also obtain that the relative $n$-torsionfreeness of modules is preserved under Frobenius extensions. Furthermore, we give an application, which shows that the generalized G-dimension with respect to a Wakamatsu module is invariant under Frobenius extensions.

Abstract:Let R⋉M be a trivial extension of a ring R by an R - R -bimodule M . We first describe explicitly the structure of a dual module over R⋉M . Then we characterize Mittag-Leffler modules and f -projective modules over R × M . Finally, we investigate when R⋉M is a left Π-coherent ring. In addition, some applications are given in formal triangular matrix rings.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the closeness of strongly (co)-hopfian properties under some constructions such as the ring of Morita context, direct products, triangular matrix, fraction ring etc. Also, we prove that if M(X) is strongly hopfian (resp. strongly co-hopfian) in R(X)-Mod, then M is strongly hopfian (resp. strongly co-hopfian) in R-Mod.

Abstract:Let $B \subseteq A$ be an extension of finite dimensional algebras. We provide a sufficient condition for the existence of triangle equivalences of singularity categories (resp. Gorenstein defect categories) between $A$ and $B$. This result is applied to trivial extensions, Morita rings and triangular matrix algebras to give several reduction methods on singularity categories and Gorenstein defect categories of algebras.

Abstract:We prove that if $B\subseteq A$ is an extension of finite dimensional algebras such that the projective dimension of $A/B$ as a $B$-bimodule is finite, if $A$ has finite finitistic dimension, then so does $B$. We exhibit examples demonstrating that the algebra $B$ appearing in such an extension can be more complicated than $A$.

Abstract:Let $A={\mathbb F}_q[t]$ be the polynomial ring over a finite field ${\mathbb F}_q$ and let $\phi $ and $\psi$ be $A-$Drinfeld modules. In this paper we consider the group ${\mathrm{Ext}}^1(\phi ,\psi )$ with the Baer addition. We show that if $\mathrm{rank}\phi >\mathrm{rank}\psi$ then $\mathrm{Ext^1}(\phi,\psi)$ has the structure of a \tm module. We give complete algorithm describing this structure. We generalize this to the cases: $\mathrm{Ext^1}(\Phi,\psi)$ where $\Phi$ is a \tm module and $\psi$ is a Drinfeld module and $\mathrm{Ext^1}(\Phi, C^{\otimes e})$ where $\Phi$ is a \tm module and $C^{\otimes e}$ is the $e$-th tensor product of Carlitz module. We also establish duality between $\Ext$ groups for \tm modules and the corresponding adjoint ${\mathbf t}^{\sigma}$-modules. Finally, we prove the existence of $"\Hom-\Ext"$ six-term exact sequences for \tm modules and dual \tm motives. As the category of \tm modules is only additive (not abelian) this result is nontrivial.

Abstract:We study base field extensions of ordinary abelian varieties defined over finite fields using the module theoretic description introduced by Deligne. As applications we give algorithms to determine the minimal field of definition of such a variety and to determine whether two such varieties are twists.

Abstract:Let S be a ring extension of R, and let τR=(TR,FR) and τS=(TS,FS) be torsion theories for right R-modules and right S-modules respectively. Using functors HomR(−,S) and −⊗RS, we get the connection between τR and τS, introduce torsion theory extensions related to ring extensions and establish some relations between finite normalizing extensions and torsion theory extensions. Furthermore, we consider some applications of torsion theory extensions and generalize some results of excellent extensions (almost excellent extensions) to the setting of torsion theories.

Abstract:We use the algorithms Bottomup and Topdown to study the finitistic dimensions of a class of extension algebras: the trivially twisted extensions of monomial algebras. A hybrid algorithm for determination of the finitistic dimension of the aforementioned extension is presented, and in particular, conditions for construction of such extensions that have relatively larger finitistic dimension are investigated.
