Abstract:Dredged soils are often challenging due to their high-water content and low bearing capacity, making sustainable stabilization techniques crucial. This study investigates the effectiveness of lime stabilization in enhancing the geotechnical characteristics of dredged soil. Dredged soil from Dal Lake Shalimar Road was mixed with varying percentages of lime (0–10%), and the permeability, California Bearing Ratio (CBR), and compaction behavior were assessed. Results indicate that 6% lime content produces optimal improvements, including a 5.93% increase in maximum dry density, a decrease in optimum moisture content from 32.58 to 27.58%, a 159% improvement in unsoaked CBR, a 573% improvement in soaked CBR, and an 82.8% reduction in permeability coefficient. Microstructural and mineralogical analyses support these findings, revealing significant changes in soil structure and composition post-treatment. This research demonstrates the potential of lime stabilization as a sustainable method for enhancing dredged soil's engineering characteristics, promoting their use in construction projects and supporting eco-friendly dredged soil management approaches.
