Abstract:We present the resummation of one-jettiness for the color-singlet plus jet production process pp→(γ*/Z→l+l−)+jet at hadron colliders up to the fourth logarithmic order ( N3LL ). This is the first resummation at this order for processes involving three colored partons at the Born level. We match our resummation formula to the corresponding fixed-order predictions, extending the validity of our results to regions of the phase space where further hard emissions are present. This result paves the way for the construction of next-to-next-to-leading order simulations for color-singlet plus jet production matched to parton showers in the geneva framework. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.109.094009 Published by the American Physical Society under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the paper attempts to solve This paper aims to solve the N3LL resummation (four - order logarithmic resummation of one - jettiness) in the Z - boson plus jet (Z+jet) process produced at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Specifically, the goals of the paper include: 1. **High - precision theoretical prediction**: Provide a higher - precision theoretical prediction to match the accuracy of the experimental measurement of the Z - boson transverse momentum (\(q_T\)) spectrum. This requires combining the next - to - next - leading - order (NNLO) prediction and \(q_T\) resummation in order to accurately describe this distribution across the entire momentum range. 2. **Logarithmic resummation of multi - scale processes**: For multi - scale processes such as Z+jet, logarithmic terms between different energy scales may lead to poorer convergence of the fixed - order perturbative theory. Therefore, it is necessary to resum these logarithmic terms through the renormalization group (RG) evolution to improve the prediction accuracy. 3. **New physics background**: Provide an accurate background model for new physics searches. By accurately describing the background in the Z+jet process, possible new physics signals can be more effectively identified. 4. **Technical challenges**: Achieving resummation at N3LL precision requires solving multiple technical problems, including the calculation of high - order perturbative components of hard, soft, beam and jet functions and their corresponding anomalous dimensions. In addition, it is necessary to handle the calculation of two - loop soft boundary terms, which have not been fully addressed in previous work. ### Main contributions - **First implementation of N3LL resummation**: This is the first time that resummation at N3LL precision has been achieved in a Born - level process involving three colored partons. - **Matching with fixed - order predictions**: Match the resummation formula with the corresponding fixed - order predictions, expanding the effective range of the results so that they are applicable to the phase - space regions containing additional hard emissions. - **Framework construction**: Lay the foundation for the matching of the next - to - next - leading - order simulation of the color - singlet plus jet generation process with the parton shower algorithm, especially in the GENEVA framework. ### Conclusion By achieving the N3LL resummation of one - jettiness, this research provides important support for high - precision theoretical predictions of the Z+jet process, which is helpful for the accurate interpretation of experimental data and the exploration of new physics.
