Abstract:In [1], Gu and Tian [Chuanqing Gu, Zhaolu Tian, On the HSS iteration methods for positive definite Toeplitz linear systems, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 224 (2009) 709-718] proposed the special HSS iteration methods for positive definite linear systems Ax=b with A@?C^n^x^n a complex Toeplitz matrix. But we find that the special HSS iteration methods are incorrect. Some examples are given in our paper.

Anal., 14 (2020), pp. 1773-1792 concerning certain notions of the numerical range in the max algebra <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://setting.To" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> do this we also include a study of the charactristic max polynomial and correspondingly the max $k-$spectrum and the $k-$tropical spectrum. We also pose a nonresolved open questions.

Abstract:In the above paper (H. H. Choi, IEEE Trans. Automat. Contr., vol. 46, pp. 504-8, 2001), new methods to obtain upper matrix bounds for a discrete algebraic Riccati equation (DARE) have been established, but the author assumes that the system matrix A is nonsingular and DARE has a positive-definite solution. In this note, some similar results can be obtained when a solution is positive-semidefinite and there are no extra assumption that A is nonsingular. In reply the original author explains some of the underlying assumptions and comments on the computational burdens in the inequality in the commenters' note.
