Abstract:This article introduces three-dimensional laser scanning technology for monitoring in the application field of mountain tunnels, and proposes a full cycle deformation point cloud processing method ICP algorithm for mountain tunnels. Firstly, the tunnel point cloud is cut into a single circular point cloud. After denoising the point cloud, the ICP algorithm is used to accurately register the two phase point clouds. After registration, the corresponding original point cloud and target point cloud with the closest and farthest Euclidean distance are calculated, which are the maximum deformation points. At the same time, after registration, the deformation settlement at the top of the tunnel can be obtained by calculating the highest point deformation. Leica Scanstation C10 is used to obtain the data of Qinghe project mountain tunnel, which proves that the method proposed in this paper has practical significance in tunnel section Deformation monitoring.

Abstract:Traditional survey techniques are increasingly difficult to meet the demands because they not only become simple and ineffective when gathering field data,but also consume massive manpower and high labour intensity.Moreover,it is dangerous when working on road.This article mainly introduces the current situation of 3D laser scanning in China compared with the traditional data-gathering methods,and application of 3D laser scanning to road engineering survey as well.The technique is used to gather field data.Virtual level survey,DEM modeling,contour and vertical and cross section models are generated by point cloud data processing.3D laser scanning is used in Jingtong Highway maintenance survey,the accuracy can meet the requirements of gathering data when compared with the traditional total station data collection method.The technique can overcome the shortcomings of traditional survey methods,meet the quality requirements and improve efficiency.The article also points out the difficulties of using 3D laser scanning generally in production departments.

Abstract:Terrestrial Laser Scanner technology provides a fast way acquiring 3-D point cloud data of earth surface objects,and could potentially be used to generate high resolution and accuracy digital terrain model(DTM).This paper investigates the method on high resolution and accuracy DTM generation from terrestrial laser scanner technology,with Fujiayan Landslide in Wanzhou district in Chongqing as a case study area.The paper is focused on point cloud data processing and key technology exploration.The laser scanned point data is relatively and absolutely positioned by combining traditional positioning technique with geodetic coordinates from differential GPS technology,followed with noise removal and mosaic.Point clouds with 3-D geodetic coordinates from different scenes can then be used to generate DTM using triangulation and vector-grid conversion techniques.The preliminary results show that this technology could be applied to acquiring high resolution and accuracy DTM at small scale.

Abstract:As an active remote sensor technology, the terrestrial laser scanner is widely used for direct generation of a three-dimensional (3D) image of an object in the fields of geodesy, surveying, and photogrammetry. In this article, a new laser scanner using array avalanche photodiodes, as designed by the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is introduced for rapid collection of 3D data. The system structure of the new laser scanner is first presented, and a mathematical model is further derived to transform the original data to the 3D coordinates of the object in a user-defined coordinate system. The performance of the new laser scanner is tested through a comprehensive experiment. The result shows that the new laser scanner can scan a scene with a field view of 30° × 30° in 0.2 s and that, with respect to the point clouds obtained on the wall and ground floor surfaces, the root mean square errors for fitting the two planes are 0.21 and 0.01 cm, respectively. The primary advantages of the developed laser scanner include: (i) with a line scanning mode, the new scanner achieves simultaneously the 3D coordinates of 24 points per single laser pulse, which enables it to scan faster than traditional scanners with a point scanning mode and (ii) the new scanner makes use of two galvanometric mirrors to deflect the laser beam in both the horizontal and the vertical directions. This capability makes the instrument smaller and lighter, which is more acceptable for users.

Abstract:A high precision micro-topographical laser scanner is presented in the paper.It has been used to extract the rough surface Digital Elevation Model (DGM).Models for morphological patterns of soil surface under sheet/concentrated flow and rainstorms,under different slopes and the same initial conditions are obtained.Through analysis of the morphology of soil surface,a preliminary attempt is made to estimate the influence of slope on upland and/or rill erosion.The patterns of rill network are presented visually.

Abstract:Traditional means of monitoring deformation in earth and rock dams encounter challenges such as low monitoring efficiency and limited coverage. Despite the potential of emerging technologies such as GPS and three-dimensional laser scanning, their adoption is expensive and hard to promote. This paper presents a deformation monitoring method for earth and rock dams based on the close-range photogrammetry technique. The proposed approach focuses on analytical algorithm the design and deployment of monitoring points, photographic schemes, camera checking and calibration, as well as deformation analysis methods. Initially, based on the analysis of the parsing algorithms' applicability, they are fused to address the shortcomings of common image parsing methods in meeting the requirements of high precision and multi-image processing for deformation monitoring of earth and rock dams. Subsequently, the fused algorithm is introduced to analyze the acquired image data for 3D reconstruction, and the deformation in earth and rock dams is assessed based on the generated dense point cloud model. The proposed deformation monitoring method is applied to Pine Bridge Reservoir Dam, and the results demonstrated its capacity to comprehensively analyze the deformation. Furthermore, the required equipment is simple and easy to operate, aligning with the requirements for deformation monitoring accuracy of earth and rock dams.

Abstract:Laser ranging is the technology which can use the the wireless data transfer module to complete the transfer of information of the slope monitoring automatically.Compared with the traditional monitoring instruments,laser ranging has some advantages in accuracy,timeliness and cost.Based on exploring the working principle of the laser ranging monitoring system,it has been applied in the 1# slope of a highway for a long-term monitoring.After a period time of working with total station together,it shows that the data by Laser ranging is favorable in precision and stability,and it also demonstrates that the laser ranging monitoring system is suit for long-term monitoring of slope.

Abstract:Laser-controlled land leveling system can obviously improve the planeness of the field and enhance the efficiency of irrigation. The 3D topographic information was needed for project design and evaluation of laser land leveling. In order to obtain the topographic information efficiently, an onboard field 3D topography surveying system was developed. The surveying system consisted of a measuring laser receiver, a GPS receiver, a controller and a hydraulic system. Besides topographic measurement, the system could also achieve laser land leveling. The measuring laser receiver was used to obtain the elevation and the GPS receiver was employed to obtain the longitude and latitude data. The data was fused in the controller to get the 3D topographic information. Field experiments were carried out in different speed and compared with the data from the fixed-point surveying method. The result showed the surveying system had a good consistency with the fixed-point surveying method in slower speed.

Abstract:Abstract The measurement of earthwork excavation in hydropower project construction is an important control process in engineering construction. The traditional measurement and calculation process is not only inefficient, but also easy to cause errors. In this paper, the 3D laser scanner is applied to continuously measure the excavation process of the soil material yard and the efficient processing method of registration, compression and extraction process of excavation point cloud data is established respectively. At the same time, two fast calculation methods of excavation volume based on point cloud data are established. The practical application proves the data processing method established in this paper can shorten the data processing time by more than 80%, and ensure the accuracy of the data, and can control the calculation error of the excavation volume within 1%.

Abstract:Aiming at the characteristics of traditional monitoring methods of slope deformation, such as low efficiency of single point measurement, limited operation area, time-consuming and laborious and difficulty in analyzing the overall deformation of slope. Taking the high cutting slope of a certain ramp section of suizi expressway as the research object, 3D laser scanning technology was used to scan the slope and obtain 3D point cloud data of the slope in different periods. The original data were pre-processed by point cloud registration, noise reduction, algorithm filtering and so on to obtain a 3D fined model, so as to realize the overall deformation analysis of the slope and the key monitoring of characteristic parts. The results show that 3D laser scanning technology can obtain more comprehensive 3D spatial information of the slope and realize the high efficiency and high precision monitoring of slope deformation, which is of significance for the real-time monitoring of slope deformation and disaster early warning.
Application of 3D Laser Scanning to Monitoring the Landform Changes of Collapsing Hill and Gully:A Case Study of Liantanggang Collapsing Hill and Gully in the Wuhua County of Guangdong

Abstract:The complex topography and dynamic erosion process are the key problems to be taken into consideration for collapsing hill and gully monitoring. 3D laser scanning is a very useful tool which is of high accuracy, non-contact, penetrating and rapidity. This paper has introduced the principles of 3D laser scanning technology and its application. By surveying Liantanggang collapsing hill and gully in the Wuhua County of Guangdong for 6 times during the last 3 years by 3D laser scanner (Leica ScanStation 2), the paper analyzes the data acquired on June 3rd, 2011 and May 12th, 2012 by ArcGIS. The results indicate that Liantanggang collapsing hill and gully erosion volume is 1 007 m3/a, i.e. 1 380 t/a, and the erosion modulus is 269 268 t/(km2·a). The erosion rate on the middle-lower zones of the collapsing hill and gully is higher than that of the upper, and the intense erosion zones appear at the elevation between 111~116 m and 116~121 m with the erosion volumes of 202 and 178 m3/a, respectively, where there are collapsing soils which are easily erodible by sheet wash and gully flow. The collapsing soil erosion makes the collapsing hill present such a form that the higher the elevation is, the steeper the headwall would be. The lower zones at the elevation between 96~101 m and 101~106 m also have an intense erosion with the erosion volumes of 151 and 157 m3/a, respectively. In those areas, the main gully with serveral tributary gullies, has intense lateral and down-cutting erosions during rainy season, that can trigger gravitational erosion to make the collapsing hill and gully keep in the mature phrase with a high erosion rate and steep headwall. 3D laser scanning can break through the space limits of traditional monitoring and so can effectively obtain topographic details of collapsing hill and gully. The comparative analyses of continuous monitoring data not only can obtain the information of the collapsing hill and gully erosion rate, but also the quantitative terrain changes, as well as a possible explanation for the erosion sediment sources from the collapsing hill and gully. 3D laser scanning may be a promising technology for collapsing hill and gully monitoring.

In the past ten years, the terrestrial laser scanner as a physical representative of the three-dimensional laser scanning technology has been applied in some industries such as electric power, archaeology, factories, cities, Bridges, hotels, ships, criminal investigation to represent its immeasurable value. In this paper, these cases applied in the hotel, sculpture, landscape wall, karst cave are more representative to show a variety of terrestrial laser scanner applications.

Abstract:Abstract With the development and application of 3D laser scanning technology, the efficiency and accuracy of 3D reverse modeling have been greatly improved. In this paper, 3D laser scanning technology is used to establish the 3D model of the hydropower house and main equipments of Fuchunjiang Hydropower Plant, which can truly restore the internal structure and equipments layout of the power station, and solve the difficulties in realizing the digital power station construction due to incomplete or missing drawings of the old power station. The 3D model of the hydropower house and main equipments of Fuchunjiang Hydropower Plant established in this paper not only forms the valuable virtual assets of the power station, but also lays the foundation for flood control emergency plan simulation and 3D maintenance training of the power station, which has a wide field of application with good prospects.

Abstract:Terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) can provide the measurement of a large number of physical points distributed on the observed surface. A fast earthwork calculating method is proposed based on the redundant number of acquired points, which leads to a very accurate and high resolution reconstruction of the observed surfaces. This paper describes the three main steps of the method, namely the acquisition of the earthwork data based on TLS, the pre-processing of point cloud data, the earthwork calculation and accuracy evaluation based on point cloud data. Furthermore, it illustrates the performance of the proposed method with a validation experiment.
