Abstract:Professor Guo Lingzhi is one of the most famous Chinese structural geologists, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and has been working for about 70 years on teaching and scientific study. In China, he is one of the earliest and outstanding scholars using plate theory to study China geology and tectonics Since the 1960's, he and his research group have been studying geotectonics of South China. They discovered, for the first time, the important evidence of Proterozoic plate movement in the early period of Earth evolution, including ophiolitic melange, CA-type volcanic rock series and island arc-type flysch, proposing the eight geological marks confirming ancient plate boundaries within continental block. In the past 70 years, he loves his motherland, devotes himself to geosciences and has acquired fruitful results in teaching and researching. The author introduced his learning experience, some important results and scholarships, displayed an older scientist's elegant demeanor and successful path.

Abstract:Nanophotonics has emerged as a cutting-edge interdisciplinary research field today. Its primary objective is to leverage the interaction between light and matter at the wavelength and sub-wavelength scales, with the purpose of designing and manufacturing miniaturized, multifunctional, and high-performance optical devices and systems. Professor Cheng Zhang from Huazhong University of Science and Technology has dedicated his career to nanophotonic device research. Abstract:III-V semiconductors are compound semiconductor materials formed by combining group-III and group-V elements. With properties such as direct bandgap, high electron mobility, good homogeneity of large-size crystals and good lattice matching, they are widely used in micro- and opto-electronics, integrated circuits, laser communications, etc., and promise great potentials. Our Light People is someone who has long been engaged in the research of III-V semiconductor materials, structures and devices. She is Prof. Lan Fu from the Australian National University (ANU).As an outstanding student of Prof. Chennupati Jagadish, President of the Australian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Fu is not only a leading researcher in her field, but also a scientist with an independent spirit. She is currently the Head of the Department of Electronic Materials Engineering, Research School of Physics, The Australian National University, where she leads a team in the research of III-V semiconductors.A sincere and humble person, Prof. Fu focuses on nurturing professional attitude, critical thinking and problem solving skills in her students.
