Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{q}>2$ be a prime number, $\chi$ a primitive Dirichlet character modulo $\mathfrak{q}$ and $f$ a primitive holomorphic cusp form or a Hecke-Maass cusp form of level $\mathfrak{q}$ and trivial nebentypus. We prove the subconvex bound $$ L(1/2,f\otimes \chi)\ll \mathfrak{q}^{1/2-1/12+\varepsilon}, $$ where the implicit constant depends only on the archimedean parameter of $f$ and $\varepsilon$. The main input is a modifying trivial delta method developed in [1].

Abstract:Given a half-integral weight holomorphic Kohnen newform f on \Gamma_{0}(4) , we prove an asymptotic formula for large primes p with power saving error term for \sum_{\chi \pmod{p}}^{\qquad{}{}_{\scriptsize{*}}}| L(1/2,f,\chi) |^{2}. Our result is unconditional, it does not rely on the Ramanujan–Petersson conjecture for the form f . This gives a very sharp Lindelöf-on-average result for Dirichlet series attached to Hecke eigenforms without an Euler product. The Lindelöf hypothesis for such series was originally conjectured by Hoffstein. There are two main inputs. The first is a careful spectral analysis of a highly unbalanced shifted convolution problem involving the Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight forms. The second input is a bound for sums of products of Salié sums in the Pólya–Vinogradov range. Half-integrality is fully exploited to establish such an estimate. We use the closed form evaluation of the Salié sum to relate our problem to the sequence \alpha n^{2} \pmod{1} . Our treatment of this sequence is inspired by work of Rudnick–Sarnak and the second author on the local spacings of \alpha n^{2} modulo 1.

If L_2 is isometric to ( [ 0 1/2; 1/2 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ε⟩ or ( [ 0 1/2; 1/2 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ 2ε⟩ or ( [ 0 1; 1 0 ]) ^κ ⟨ε⟩ with ε∈ℤ_2^× and κ :=k-1/2 , then ℳ(L;2):=T_2^2.ℳ(L)+T_2^2^2. ℳ(L) is stable under the Hecke operator T_2^2 . Furthermore, we determine some invariant subspaces of the cusp forms for the Hecke operators.

Abstract:We prove two results on converse theorems for Hilbert modular forms over totally real fields of degree $r>1$. The first result recovers a Hilbert modular form (of some level) from an $L$-series satisfying functional equations twisted by all the unramified Hecke characters. The second result assumes both the 'unramified' functional equations and an Euler product, and recovers a Hilbert modular form of the expected level predicted by the shape of the functional equations. Our result generalizes the current converse theorems for $\mathrm{GL}_2$ in the case of Hilbert modular forms in that we completely remove the assumptions on ramified twists.

Abstract:We examine the distribution of zeroes of half-integral weight Hecke cusp forms on the manifold $\Gamma_0(4)\backslash\mathbb H$ near a cusp at infinity. In analogue of the Ghosh-Sarnak conjecture for classical holomorphic Hecke cusp forms, one expects that almost all of the zeroes sufficiently close to this cusp lie on two vertical geodesics $\Re(s)=-1/2$ and $\Re(s)=0$ as the weight tends to infinity. We show that for $\gg K^2/(\log K)^{3/2}$ of the half-integral weight Hecke cusp forms in the Kohnen plus subspace with weight bounded by a large constant $K$, the number of such "real" zeroes grows almost at the expected rate. We also obtain a weaker lower bound for the number of real zeroes that holds for a positive proportion of forms. One of the key ingredients is the asymptotic evaluation of averaged first and second moments of quadratic twists of modular $L$-functions.

Abstract:Let $\pi$ be a unitary cuspidal automorphic representation of $\text{GL}_{4}(\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{Q}})$. Let $f \geq 1$ be given. We show that there exists infinitely many primitive even (resp. odd) Dirichlet characters $\chi$ with conductor co-prime to $f$ such that $L(s, \pi \otimes \chi)$ is non-vanishing at the central point. Our result has applications for the construction of $p$-adic $L$-functions for $\text{GSp}_{4}$ following Loeffler-Pilloni-Skinner-Zerbes, the Bloch-Kato conjecture and the Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture for abelian surfaces following Loeffler-Zerbes, strong multiplicity one results for paramodular cuspidal representations of $\text{GSp}_{4}(\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{Q}})$ and the rationality of the central values of $\text{GSp}_{4}(\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{Q}})$ $L$-functions in the remaining non-regular weight case.

Abstract:For a given irreducible and monic polynomial $f(x) \in \mathbb{Z}[x]$ of degree $4$, we consider the quadratic twists by square-free integers $q$ of the genus one quartic ${H\, :\, y^2=f(x)}$ \[ H_q \, :\, qy^2=f(x). \] We say that a curve $C$ is everywhere locally soluble (ELS) if it has a solution in $\mathbb{R}$ and in $\mathbb{Q}_p$ for every prime $p$ (i.e. if $C(\mathbb{R})\neq \emptyset$ and $C(\mathbb{Q}_p)\neq \emptyset$ for all primes $p$). Let $L=\{q\in \mathbb{N} :\, q \text{ is square-free and } H_q \text{ is ELS}\}$ denote the set of positive square-free integers $q$ for which $H_q$ is everywhere locally soluble. For a real number $x$ let ${L(x)= \#\{q\in L:\, q<x\}}$ be the number of elements in $L$ that are less then $x$.
