Abstract:British Journal of Pain, Ahead of Print. The objective of this work was to evaluate the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability and minimal detectable difference (MDD) of pressure pain thresholds (PPTs) in pain-free participants with two examiners over two consecutive days in a cross-sectional study design. Examiners used a standardized method to measure and locate a specific testing site over tibialis anterior for PPT testing with a hand-held algometer. The mean of each examiner's three PPT measurements was used to calculate the intraclass correlation coefficient, inter-rater reliability, and intra-rater reliability. The minimal detectable difference (MDD) was calculated. Eighteen participants were recruited (11 female). The inter-rater reliability was 0.94 and 0.96 on day 1 and day 2, respectively. Intra-rater reliability for the examiners was 0.96 and 0.92 on day 1 and day 2, respectively. The MDD on day 1 was 1.24 kg/cm2 (CI: 0.76–2.03) and the MDD on day 2 was 0.88 kg/cm2 (CI: 0.54–1.43). This study demonstrates high inter- and intra-rater reliability and the MDD values for this method of pressure algometry.

Abstract:Recently, developing molecular biology and system biology, the mechanism of the circadian rhythm in which the inside of the body rhythm of the living thing is ruled is being clarified at the cell level. On the other hand, it is said that various sicknesses are related in the medicine and pharmacology to the disorder of the circadian rhythm. Therefore, it is thought that to restore an altered rhythm is a goal of these therapies. In this paper, we study the 10-states circadian model of Drosophila and propose a close-loop control based on flatness-based adaptive control to achieve circadian rhythm restoration.
Pain pressure threshold algometry in knee osteoarthritis: intra- and inter-rater reliability

Abstract:Introduction: Synovitis and effusion can cause pain sensitization in persons with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Pain Pressure Threshold (PPT) algometry is a means to quantify somatosensory abnormalities, including inflammatory-mediated pressure hyperalgesia. We investigated the reliability of PPT algometry with three raters. Methods: Twenty-seven persons (50 knees) with KOA, according to the American College of Rheumatology criteria, were included. The PPT of the most tender spot in the joint line of each knee, identified by palpation, was assessed using a digital pressure algometer with a round 1 cm2 rubber tip. The algometer was applied three times with at least twenty-second intervals by three physiotherapists each in a single session. Two of the physiotherapists had no experience with the procedure prior to the study. We estimated the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) model 2.1, 95% within-subject standard deviation (sw), and Minimal Detectable Difference (MDD). Results: The mean PPTs ranged from 39.94 to 41.81 Newton (N), the intra-rater ICC ranged from 0.909 to 0.956, the sw ranged from 6.44 to 10.77 N, and the related MDD ranged from 9.11 to 15.23 N. The three raters achieved an inter-rater ICC of 0.707, an sw of 17.68 N, and an MDD of 25.01 N. The results were homoscedastic. Conclusions: Our results indicate that PPT algometry is a suitable method for assessment of pain in osteoarthritic knees. After a short session of PPT procedure training, good intra-rater and acceptable inter-rater ICCs were achieved.

Abstract:High levels of serum amylase and CA19.9 were noted in a patient with papillary serous cystadenocarcinoma of the ovary. Electrophoresis identified isoamylases of salivary type. Both markers decreased rapidly after removal of the ovarian tumour. These considerations argue in favor of the early detection of amylase isoenzymes in patients in whom history, objective signs, and routine diagnostic studies fail to disclose a pancreatic disease.
Interrater reliability of auscultation of breath sounds among physical therapists

Abstract:Background and purpose: Although auscultation is routinely used in the assessment of respiratory status, the ability of the rater to accurately and consistently identify lung sounds has been questioned. The literature on this issue is sparse and has focused on reliability of auscultation of tape-recorded rather than in vivo lung sounds. The purposes of this study were to determine the interrater reliability of physical therapists in the direct auscultation of lung sounds based on their clinical experience in chest physical therapy and to determine whether the adoption of standardized nomenclature and education on proper technique and interpretation affects reliability. Subjects and methods: A group of 57 registered physical therapists were stratified by clinical experience into four groups. Sixteen therapists (ie, 4 in each stratum) were randomly chosen using a random number table. The following criteria were developed to delineate clinical experience. Group 1 subjects were senior chest physical therapists with at least 5 years of experience in this area of practice. Group 2 subjects were experienced therapists who had a minimum of 2 years of experience in chest physical therapy and were currently practicing in this area. Group 3 subjects were experienced physical therapists in other areas who were also practicing in chest physical therapy on occasional weekend service. Group 4 subjects were new graduates. Ten patients were evaluated by each group of 4 physical therapists using a teaching stethoscope with one diaphragm/bell and four pairs of earpieces. The education session consisted of discussion of the adoption of standardized nomenclature and education on proper technique and interpretation of auscultation. Interrater reliability was assessed before and after the education session using kappa (kappa) values. Comparisons were made between kappa values before and after the education session to determine the effect of education and between groups to determine the effect of clinical experience. Results: The kappa values before the education session were low, indicating poor reliability in detecting specific abnormal sounds (kappa = -.02-.59). Group 1 (seniors in respiratory therapy) and group 4 (new graduates) demonstrated the greatest reliability levels. The lowest kappa values were observed for detecting and categorizing the quality of breath sounds (normal, absent, bronchial, or decreased) (kappa = -.02-.25). Following the education session, there was a general improvement in reliability (kappa = -.30-.77), especially for group 3 (specialists in other areas). The most improvement was noted for the detection of the quality of breath sounds (kappa = .08-.50). Conclusion and discussion: Reliability of auscultation was poor to fair, in general, before the education session. There was a definite improvement in reliability after the education session. There was no clear effect of clinical experience on reliability, and the agreement among observers appeared to depend on the abnormal lung sound present. Abstract:The objectives of this study were to estimate the intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of the Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT) and Conditioned Pain Modulation (CPM) in healthy participants and patients with chronic shoulder pain. Additionally, the Standard Error of Measurement (SEM) and Smallest Detectable Change (SDC) were calculated. Thirty-one healthy volunteers and twenty patients with chronic shoulder pain were assessed using the PPT and CPM by two raters, with a 24 h interval between sessions. Excellent intra-rater reliability was demonstrated for PPT, with similar SEM and SDC when assessed by the same rater. The inter-rater reliability for PPTs in patients was moderate to good (ICC = 0.59–0.89) with higher SEM (73.83–121.98 kPa) and SDC (61.58–97.59) values than the asymptomatic group (ICC = 0.92–0.96, SEM = 49.61–103.12 kPa, SDC = 42.01–56.30) respectively. CPM's intra-rater reliability was good (ICC = 0.82) in the patients and moderate (ICC = 0.67) in the asymptomatic group, while inter-rater reliability was low for the asymptomatic group (ICC = 0.37) and extremely low (ICC = 0.074) for the patients, with comparable SEM and SDC outcomes in both groups. PPT and CPM measurements are highly reliable when conducted by the same rater on the same day. Patients had lower inter-rater PPT reliability but better intra-rater CPM reliability. Clinicians need to be mindful of potential variability when interpreting these test results.

Abstract:Introduction: Although the pressure biofeedback unit (PBU) is used for muscular assessment and training, there is little evidence of its reproducibility and repeatability. Objective: This study aims to assess intra- and inter-rater reproducibility and repeatability of the PBU in the assessment of the transverse abdominal (TrA), internal oblique (IO), low back multifidi, and deep neck flexors (DNF). Methods: Fifty individuals had three muscular groups tested: TrA/IO, lower back multifidi, and DNF. For repeatability, one rater did three consecutive measures; for intra-rater reproducibility the same rater did two measures with seven-day intervals, and for inter-rater reproducibility, three raters, on the same day, did the measures. Data were analyzed with: Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), Standard Error of Measurement (SEM), and Minimal Detectable Change (MDC). (α = 0,05). Results: Repeatability: TrA/IO (ICC = 0.847), Multifidi (ICC = 0.860), DNF (ICC = 0.831). Inter-rater reproducibility: TrA/IO (ICC = 0.876), Multifidi (ICC = 0.508), DNF (ICC = 0.442). Intra-rater reproducibility: TrA/IO (ICC = 0.747), Multifidi (ICC = 0.293), DNF (ICC = 0.685). Except for Multifidi, all the SEM values were less than 10 mmHg and the MDC values were less than 15 mmHg. Conclusions: The PBU can be used with reliability by different evaluators, although the evaluation of multifidi is not indicated.
Physical therapist perceptions and use of clinical pain mechanism assessment in the musculoskeletal setting: a survey analysis

Abstract:Background: A mechanism-based approach to the evaluation and management of pain has been suggested across disciplines in contemporary research. However, the translation of pain mechanism assessment strategies in research to clinical practice is unclear. This study sought to explore perceptions and use of clinical pain mechanism assessment by physical therapists managing musculoskeletal pain. Methods: This was an electronic cross-sectional survey. After initial development, refinement, and piloting for comprehensiveness, comprehensibility and relevance, the survey was disseminated to members of the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy via email listserv. Data was maintained anonymously using the online database REDCap. Descriptive statistics and Spearman's correlations for non-parametric data were analyzed for frequencies and associations across variables. Results: In total, 148 respondents completed all aspects of the survey. Respondent age ranged from 26 to 73 years, with a mean (SD) of 43.9 (12.0). Most respondents (70.8%) reported performing clinical pain mechanism assessments at least 'sometimes'. A majority (80.4%) believed clinical pain mechanism assessments are useful in guiding management strategies while 79.8% reported specifically choosing interventions to alter aberrant pain mechanisms. The most commonly used pain severity, physical examination testing and questionnaires were the numeric pain rating scale, pressure pain thresholds and pain diagrams, respectively. However, the vast majority of instruments to clinically assess pain mechanisms were performed by a small proportion of respondents (< 30%). There were no significant correlations between age, years of experience, highest earned degree, completion of advanced training or specialist certification and testing frequency. Conclusion: The evaluation of pain mechanisms involved in the pain experience is becoming common in research. The clinical application of pain mechanism assessment is unclear. Based on the results of this survey, physical therapists in the orthopedic setting believe pain mechanism assessment is useful, but data suggests it is infrequently performed. Additional research to uncover clinician motivation related to pain mechanism assessment is warranted.
The Effectiveness of Instruction on Lumbar Spine Thrust Joint Manipulation Task Performance

Abstract:Introduction: Uncertainty exists regarding the best method for teaching thrust joint manipulation (TJM) to student physical therapists. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of Peyton's 4-step (P4) approach with the "see one, do one" (S1D1) approach for teaching students to perform a lumbar spine TJM task in an academic setting. Secondary objectives were to compare the effects of each instructional approach on students' attitudes and beliefs toward spinal TJM and on their motivation to learn to perform lumbar spine TJM. Review of literature: The S1D1 approach is used in the health care professions for teaching clinical tasks to students. It is unclear whether the P4 approach may better prepare students to practice TJM. Subjects: Student physical therapists. Methods: Using a factorial quasi-experimental design, an equal number of students were assigned to a P4 or S1D1 instruction group for the TJM task. Students' performance accuracy, time, and outcome performing TJM in an academic setting were measured. Paper surveys were used to collect data about students' attitudes and beliefs toward spinal TJM and their motivation to learn TJM. A generalized estimating equations approach was used for data analysis. Results: Fifty-eight students (29 per group) completed the study. There was an interaction between the instruction group and time on task performance accuracy favoring the P4 approach (P = .03). There was no interaction between the instruction group and task performance time, task performance outcome, attitudes and beliefs toward spinal TJM, or motivation to learn TJM (all P > .19). Discussion and conclusion: The P4 approach more effectively improved student accuracy when performing the TJM task in an academic setting than the S1D1 approach. However, no differences between instruction were found for performance time or outcome. Students reported a favorable perception of learning lumbar spine TJM. These preliminary results suggest that instructors may use the P4 approach to improve students' TJM procedural knowledge before task practice. However, limitations of the study may affect the internal validity and generalizability of results.

Abstract:This paper presents a MEMS surface micro-machined varactor. The dynamic range of this class of varactors is governed by pull-in instability which is ideally one-third of the initial gap between the two electrodes. This paper presents a simple T varactor, whose pull-in stability and hence its dynamic range are increased by applying two independent voltage sources. We introduce an electromechanical model for the proposed structure, and a full analytic solution to the attached pull in problem. Our varactor has capacitance ratio of 2.43:1.
Correspondence and Concordance of Retrospective and Concurrent Responses to Physiotherapists and Sport Psychology Questionnaire Items

Abstract:Orthopedic and sport-related injuries are a major public health concern and a common reason for referral to physical therapy. The use of psychological techniques by physical therapists has been assessed in research studies primarily with retrospective self-report questionnaires that have not been validated against concurrent assessments of the same behaviors. The primary purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which the results obtained from physical therapists' retrospective self-reports of their use of psychological techniques reflect their use of the techniques assessed concurrently. Physical therapists (N = 14) completed the Physiotherapists and Sport Psychology Questionnaire (PSPQ) at the beginning of this study and a checklist based on the PSPQ at the end of the sessions with patients (N = 306). Patients also completed the checklist at the end of the sessions. Across 12 psychological techniques, the physical therapists' retrospective (PSPQ) responses showed relatively weak correspondence (mean r = 0.31) and poor concordance with their concurrent (checklist) responses. Compared to the physical therapists' checklist responses, the patients' checklist responses showed weaker correspondence (mean r = 0.03) and better concordance with the physical therapists' PSPQ responses. The findings suggest that retrospective self-reports may not accurately reflect the use of psychological techniques by physical therapists and, consequently, that physical therapists should consider documenting their use of psychological techniques as close to their implementation as possible. Suggestions for improved assessment are provided.

Abstract:Pressure pain thresholds (PPTs) were measured in 12 healthy female volunteers with a hand-held electronic pressure algometer (Somedic). The PPTs over 30 points, mainly located on the trunk, were measured in a randomized order. The measurements were repeated after one week and again 10-13 weeks later. Three spots over nerve tissue had lower PPTs than nearby muscle. There were no consistent differences between muscle and periosteum within the same region. Overall there was a tendency for points in the nape region to have the lowest PPT, and those in the lumbosacral region to have the highest. The shoulder points had intermediate values. The interindividual differences were great. There was no difference between the mean PPTs from the first session and those from the second session. However, at the third session, 10 weeks later, the average PPT value was substantially higher than in the previous sessions.

Reliability and accuracy of an expert physical therapist as a reference standard for a manual therapy joint mobilization trial

Abstract:Objective: Previous studies on learning joint mobilization techniques have used expert practitioners as the reference standard as there is no current evidence on what ideal forces would be for effective mobilizations. However, none of these trials have documented the reliability or accuracy of the reference standard. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to report both the reliability and accuracy of an expert physical therapist (PT) acting as a reference standard for a manual therapy joint mobilization trial. Methods: A secondary analysis was performed using data from a published randomized, controlled, crossover study. The mobilization technique studied was the central posterior to anterior (PA) joint mobilization of the L3 vertebra. Reliability and accuracy data for the reference standard were collected over four time periods spanning 16 weeks. Results: Intrarater reliability of the expert PT for R1 and R2 joint forces was excellent (R1 Force ICC3,3 0.95, 95%CI 0.76–0.99 and R2 Force ICC3,3 0.90, 95%CI 0.49–0.99). Additionally, the expert PT was 92.3% accurate (mean % error±SD, 7.7 ± 5.5) when finding Grade III mean peak mobilization force and 85.1% accurate (mean % error±SD, 14.9 ± 8.3) when finding Grade IV mean peak mobilization force. Finally, correlations between actual applied forces and computed ideal forces were excellent (Pearson r 0.79–0.92, n = 24, P < 0.01 for all correlations). Discussion: The expert PT in this manual therapy joint mobilization trial showed excellent reliability and accuracy as the reference standard. The study supports the use of implementing quantitative feedback devices into the teaching of joint mobilization when a reliable and accurate reference standard has been identified. Abstract:Background The importance of the biopsychosocial model in assessment and management of chronic musculoskeletal conditions is recognized. Physical therapists have been encouraged to develop psychologically informed practice. Little is known about the process of physical therapists' learning and delivering of psychological interventions within the practice context. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate physical therapists' experiences and perspectives of a cognitive-behavioral–informed training and intervention process as part of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving adults with painful knee osteoarthritis. Design A qualitative design was used. Participants were physical therapists trained to deliver pain coping skills training (PCST). Methods Eight physical therapists trained to deliver PCST were interviewed by telephone at 4 time points during the 12-month RCT period. Interviews were audiorecorded, transcribed verbatim into computer-readable files, and analyzed using Framework Analysis. Results Thematic categories identified were: training, experience delivering PCST, impact on general clinical practice, and perspectives on PCST and physical therapist practice. Physical therapists reported positive experiences with PCST and program delivery. They thought that their participation in the RCT had enhanced their general practice. Although some components of the PCST program were familiar, the therapists found delivering the program was quite different from regular practice. Physical therapists believed the PCST program, a 3- to 4-day workshop followed by formal mentoring and performance feedback from a psychologist for 3 to 6 months and during the RCT, was critical to their ability to effectively deliver the PCST intervention. They identified a number of challenges in delivering PCST in their normal practice. Conclusion Physical therapists can be trained to confidently deliver a PCST program. The physical therapists in this study believed that training enhanced their clinical practice. Comprehensive training and mentoring by psychologists was crucial to ensure treatment fidelity.
Experimentally induced pain and paresthesia respond differently to parameter changes of cuff-based compression in pain-free young individuals

Abstract:Neuropathic pain is a significant therapeutic challenge due to the co-occurrence with other neurological symptoms such as paresthesia. Human-based models such as cuff algometry can enhance our understanding of pain-paresthesia relationships. This experiment aimed to characterize (psychophysically) pain and paresthesia evoked by stimuli of different temporal and intensity parameters and to demonstrate the reliability of experimental induction of these two symptoms using cuff algometry. Forty participants, aged 18-35, were exposed to mechanical pressure stimuli at three intensities (100, 150, 200 mmHg) and three durations (90, 120, 150s). Skin Conductance (SC) was continuously monitored, and participants rated pain and paresthesia in real-time using a computerized visual analog scale. The General Linear Model analysis revealed significant differences in paresthesia across all durations (p<0.01), but not all intensities, as paresthesia did not increase from 150 to 200 mmHg (p>0.05). Conversely, pain responses showed significant differences across all pressure intensities (p<0.05) but not durations, as pain did not increase from 90 to 120 and from 120 to 150s (p>0.05). No interaction effects were found for either symptom. SC analysis showed no significant main or interaction effects. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) indicated moderate to good reliability for pain and paresthesia induction across different durations and intensities (ICC: 0.52-0.90), while SC showed poor to moderate reliability (ICC: 0.21-0.73). In conclusion, computerized cuff algometry seems to be an effective and reliable method for simultaneously inducing and assessing pain and paresthesia, revealing that these symptoms follow different patterns based on pressure duration and intensity.

Case-Based Peer Teaching for Pain Medicine Fellows: A Curriculum for Diverse Residency Backgrounds

Abstract:Introduction: Pain medicine is an advanced medical subspecialty incorporating trainees from diverse primary disciplines. A curriculum that does not assess or promote the trainees' differential expertise developed from their primary specialties may silo instead of promoting collaborative learning in a multidisciplinary subspecialty. Methods: We created a Kern-guided curriculum for the pain medicine fellowship utilizing case-based modules and a novel note-taking and knowledge-sharing format. Nine faculty-led, case-based modules of increasing complexity were developed based on pain medicine competency content. Pain medicine fellows were instructed to actively designate prior and new knowledge into four categories: Prior knowledge that is accurate and relevant, inaccurate prior knowledge, new knowledge gained from peers, and new knowledge for all trainees. After each case study, each fellow acknowledged "new knowledge gained from peers" and prepared a brief teach-back of "new knowledge for all trainees" at the beginning of the next session. Fellow participants were assessed for their reactions to the curriculum via anonymized surveys. Results: The curriculum was implemented at a single institution pain medicine fellowship from 2021 to 2023. At the end of this curriculum, 90% of participants reported improved knowledge retention through participating in this case-based curriculum compared to the traditional didactic format, and 80% participants reported increased respect for their peers. Discussion: We created a novel note-taking and knowledge-sharing platform, anchored by a well-established case-based educational strategy, to improve the learning environment and knowledge retention for multidisciplinary trainees with heterogeneous baseline knowledge.
Training physiotherapy students to educate patients: A randomised controlled trial

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of a training intervention on physiotherapy students' self-efficacy and skills in the area of patient education.METHODS: Final year physiotherapy students were randomised to an intervention group or a wait-list control group. The intervention group participated in a 3.5h training intervention about patient education that included video observation, simulated patient practice and structured feedback. The control group did not receive any training. Self-efficacy was assessed at baseline (T1) and after the intervention (or no intervention for the control group) (T2). Patient education performance was assessed by a blinded rater from a video-recorded standardised clinical examination.RESULTS: 83 students were randomised to the intervention group and 81 students to the control group. There were no differences in demographic variables or self-efficacy between groups at baseline. There was significant improvement in self-efficacy for the intervention group, but no change for the control group. The intervention group performed significantly better than the control group for nine of the eleven performance items, with significantly higher scores overall.CONCLUSION: A training intervention enhances physiotherapy student self-efficacy and performance in patient education.PRACTICE IMPLICATION: Use of patient education training is recommended to enhance student self-efficacy and performance.

Peer teacher training (PTT) program for health professional students: interprofessional and flipped learning

Abstract:Background: The need for developing healthcare professional students' peer teaching skills is widely acknowledged, and a number of discipline-based peer teacher training programs have been previously reported. However, a consensus on what a student peer teaching skills program across the health professions should entail, and the associated benefits and challenges, has not been previously described. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the design and implementation of an interprofessional Peer Teacher Training (PTT) program, and explore outcomes and participant perceptions, using Experience-Based Learning (ExBL) theory. Methods: In 2016, an interprofessional team of academics from across three healthcare faculties: Medicine, Pharmacy and Health Sciences, developed and implemented a six module, flipped learning, interprofessional PTT program. Pre- and post questionnaires, using a Likert scale of 1-5, as well as open ended questions, were distributed to students. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse quantitative data, and thematic analysis was used to analyse qualitative data. Results: Ninety senior students from across the three faculties participated. Eighty nine percent of participants completed a pre- and post-course questionnaire. Students felt the required pre-class preparation, including online pre-reading, discussion board, videos, and teaching activities enhanced their face-to-face learning experience. In class, students valued the small-group activities, and the opportunities to practice their teaching skills with provision of feedback. Students reported increased confidence to plan and deliver peer teaching activities, and an increased awareness of the roles and responsibilities of health professionals outside of their own discipline, and use of different terminology and communication methods. Students' suggestions for improving the PTT, included; less large group teaching; more online delivery of theory; and inclusion of a wider range of health professional disciplines. Conclusion: The PTT program provided a theoretically informed framework where students could develop and practice their teaching skills, helping to shape students' professional values as they assume peer teaching responsibilities and move towards healthcare practice. The flipped learning, interprofessional format was successful in developing students' skills, competence and confidence in teaching, assessment, communication and feedback. Importantly, participation increased students' awareness and understanding of the various roles of health professionals.
Exploring Anesthesia Provider Preferences for Precision Feedback: Preference Elicitation Study

Abstract:Background: Health care professionals must learn continuously as a core part of their work. As the rate of knowledge production in biomedicine increases, better support for health care professionals' continuous learning is needed. In health systems, feedback is pervasive and is widely considered to be essential for learning that drives improvement. Clinical quality dashboards are one widely deployed approach to delivering feedback, but engagement with these systems is commonly low, reflecting a limited understanding of how to improve the effectiveness of feedback about health care. When coaches and facilitators deliver feedback for improving performance, they aim to be responsive to the recipient's motivations, information needs, and preferences. However, such functionality is largely missing from dashboards and feedback reports. Precision feedback is the delivery of high-value, motivating performance information that is prioritized based on its motivational potential for a specific recipient, including their needs and preferences. Anesthesia care offers a clinical domain with high-quality performance data and an abundance of evidence-based quality metrics. Objective: The objective of this study is to explore anesthesia provider preferences for precision feedback. Methods: We developed a test set of precision feedback messages with balanced characteristics across 4 performance scenarios. We created an experimental design to expose participants to contrasting message versions. We recruited anesthesia providers and elicited their preferences through analysis of the content of preferred messages. Participants additionally rated their perceived benefit of preferred messages to clinical practice on a 5-point Likert scale. Results: We elicited preferences and feedback message benefit ratings from 35 participants. Preferences were diverse across participants but largely consistent within participants. Participants' preferences were consistent for message temporality (α=.85) and display format (α=.80). Ratings of participants' perceived benefit to clinical practice of preferred messages were high (mean rating 4.27, SD 0.77). Conclusions: Health care professionals exhibited diverse yet internally consistent preferences for precision feedback across a set of performance scenarios, while also giving messages high ratings of perceived benefit. A "one-size-fits-most approach" to performance feedback delivery would not appear to satisfy these preferences. Precision feedback systems may hold potential to improve support for health care professionals' continuous learning by accommodating feedback preferences.
