Abstract:The goal of acoustic Language Identiﬁcation (LID) is to identify the language of spoken utterances. The described system is based on parallel Hidden Markov Model (HMM) phoneme recognizers. The standard approach for parameter learning of Hidden Markov Model parameters is Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimation which is not directly related to the classiﬁcation error rate. Based on the Minimum Clas-siﬁcation Error (MCE) parameter estimation scheme we introduce Minimum Language Identiﬁcation Error (MLIDE) training that results in HMM model parameters (mean vectors) that give minimum classiﬁcation error on the training data. Using a large telephone speech corpus with 7 languages achieve a language classiﬁcation error rate of 4 . 7 % which is a 40 % reduction of error rate compared with a baseline system using ML trained HMMs. Even if the sys-tem trained on ﬁxed network telephone speech is applied to mobile network speech data MLIDE can greatly improve the system performance.

Abstract:BCR-ABL1 –positive acute leukemia can be classified into three disease categories: B-lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and mixed-phenotype acute leukemia (MPAL). We conducted an integrative analysis of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data obtained from 12 BCR-ABL1 –positive B-ALL, AML, and MPAL samples to evaluate its diagnostic utility. RNA-seq facilitated the identification of all p190 BCR-ABL1 with accurate splicing sites and a new gene fusion involving MAP2K2 . Most of the clinically significant mutations were also identified including single-nucleotide variations, insertions, and deletions. In addition, RNA-seq yielded differential gene expression profile according to the disease category. Therefore, we selected 368 genes differentially expressed between AML and B-ALL and developed two differential diagnosis models based on the gene expression data using 1) scoring algorithm and 2) machine learning. Both models showed an excellent diagnostic accuracy not only for our 12 BCR-ABL1 –positive cases but also for 427 public gene expression datasets from acute leukemias regardless of specific genetic aberration. This is the first trial to develop models of differential diagnosis using RNA-seq, especially to evaluate the potential role of machine learning in identifying the disease category of acute leukemia. The integrative analysis of gene expression data by RNA-seq facilitates the accurate differential diagnosis of acute leukemia with successful detection of significant gene fusion and/or mutations, which warrants further investigation.

Abstract:In recent years, scientific data on cancer has expanded, providing potential for a better understanding of malignancies and improved tailored care. Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) processing power and algorithmic development position Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) as crucial players in predicting Leukemia, a blood cancer, using integrated multi-omics technology. However, realizing these goals demands novel approaches to harness this data deluge. This study introduces a novel Leukemia diagnosis approach, analyzing multi-omics data for accuracy using ML and DL algorithms. ML techniques, including Random Forest (RF), Naive Bayes (NB), Decision Tree (DT), Logistic Regression (LR), Gradient Boosting (GB), and DL methods such as Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) and Feedforward Neural Networks (FNN) are compared. GB achieved 97 % accuracy in ML, while RNN outperformed by achieving 98 % accuracy in DL. This approach filters unclassified data effectively, demonstrating the significance of DL for leukemia prediction. The testing validation was based on 17 different features such as patient age, sex, mutation type, treatment methods, chromosomes, and others. Our study compares ML and DL techniques and chooses the best technique that gives optimum results. The study emphasizes the implications of high-throughput technology in healthcare, offering improved patient care.

Abstract:In general, leukemia is diagnosed by taking repeated complete blood counts, since this will enormously increase the blood cell count of the patient compared to normal people. The malignant cells resemble the normal blood cell which complicates the prediction process. So, this aliment must be detected and treated in early stages to avoid any complications. The methods already existing in laboratories are time consuming. This study presents a Machine Learning approach for detecting leukemia in patients. A dataset consisting of blood smear images was collected and preprocessed to extract relevant features. The features were then used to train and test various machine learning classification algorithms such as Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine and KNN. Then by evaluating the performance of the above-mentioned classifiers using different performance metrics like accuracy, precision, etc., the efficient one can be identified.

Abstract:Leukemia is a form of cancer that affects people of any age but is particularly frequently seen in kids aged between the ages of five and eight. One of two methods is typically used for diagnosing it. The first approach is the traditional method of manually examining samples of blood extracted from microscope pictures; however, this method has a drawback in that when leukemia cells and healthy ones are the same, the diagnosis procedure gets more complicated. The second method employs image categorization algorithms. Algorithms employed in data mining techniques are extremely important in the field of health care, particularly in the event of discovering previously unknown patterns or models in databases. The classification is becoming more popular in Machine Learning and Deep Learning methods. The purpose of this research is to examine ML and DL approaches for recognizing and forecasting leukemia. The present research attempts to uncover several ML and DL-based classification methods that exploit the greatest prediction accuracy for leukemia cancer cells in added to the existing methods.

Abstract:Abstract Blood cancer has been a growing concern during the last decade and requires early diagnosis to start proper treatment. The diagnosis process is costly and time-consuming involving medical experts and several tests. Thus, an automatic diagnosis system for its accurate prediction is of significant importance. Diagnosis of blood cancer using leukemia microarray gene data and machine learning approach has become an important medical research today. Despite research efforts, desired accuracy and efficiency necessitate further enhancements. This study proposes an approach for blood cancer disease prediction using the supervised machine learning approach. For the current study, the leukemia microarray gene dataset containing 22,283 genes, is used. ADASYN resampling and Chi-squared (Chi2) features selection techniques are used to resolve imbalanced and high-dimensional dataset problems. ADASYN generates artificial data to make the dataset balanced for each target class, and Chi2 selects the best features out of 22,283 to train learning models. For classification, a hybrid logistics vector trees classifier (LVTrees) is proposed which utilizes logistic regression, support vector classifier, and extra tree classifier. Besides extensive experiments on the datasets, performance comparison with the state-of-the-art methods has been made for determining the significance of the proposed approach. LVTrees outperform all other models with ADASYN and Chi2 techniques with a significant 100% accuracy. Further, a statistical significance T -test is also performed to show the efficacy of the proposed approach. Results using k-fold cross-validation prove the supremacy of the proposed model.

Abstract:This pioneering research investigates the manner in which cellular morphological responses are linked to the nature of genome information using deep learning. Leukemia is highly heterogeneous, meaning that different types of leukemia require different treatments and have different prognoses. Current clinical diagnostic and typing tests are complex and time‐consuming. In particular, all of these tests rely on bone marrow aspiration, which is invasive and leads to poor patient compliance, exacerbating treatment delays. Morphological analysis of peripheral blood cells (PBC) is still primarily used to distinguish between benign and malignant hematologic disorders, but it remains a challenge to diagnose and type these diseases solely by direct observation of peripheral blood(PB) smears by human experts. In this study, we apply a segmentation‐based enhanced residual network that uses progressive multigranularity training with jigsaw patches. It is trained on a self‐built annotated dataset of 21,208 images from 237 patients, including five types of benign white blood cells(WBCs) and eight types of leukemic cells. The network is not only able to discriminate between benign and malignant cells, but also to typify leukemia using a single peripheral blood cell. The network effectively differentiated acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) from other types of acute myeloid leukemia (non‐APL), achieving a precision rate of 89.34%, a recall rate of 97.37%, and an F1 score of 93.18% for APL. In contrast, for non‐APL cases, the model achieved a precision rate of 92.86%, but a recall rate of 74.63% and an F1 score of 82.75%. In addition, the model discriminates acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL) with the Ph chromosome from those without. This approach could improve patient compliance and enable faster and more accurate typing of leukemias for early diagnosis and treatment to improve survival.

Abstract:Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a type of blood cancer characterized by the rapid growth of immature white blood cells from the bone marrow. Therapy resistance resulting from the persistence of leukemia stem cells (LSCs) are found in numerous patients. Comparative transcriptome studies have been previously conducted to analyze differentially expressed genes between LSC+ and LSC- cells. However, these studies mainly focused on a limited number of genes with the most obvious expression differences between the two cell types. We developed a computational approach incorporating several machine learning algorithms, including Monte Carlo feature selection (MCFS), incremental feature selection (IFS), support vector machine (SVM), Repeated Incremental Pruning to Produce Error Reduction (RIPPER), to identify gene expression features specific to LSCs. One thousand 0ne hudred fifty-nine features (genes) were first identified, which can be used to build the optimal SVM classifier for distinguishing LSC+ and LSC- cells. Among these 1159 genes, the top 17 genes were identified as LSC-specific biomarkers. In addition, six classification rules were produced by RIPPER algorithm. The subsequent literature review on these features/genes and the classification rules and functional enrichment analyses of the 1159 features/genes confirmed the relevance of extracted genes and rules to the characteristics of LSCs.

Abstract:Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia is a type of cancer that occurs when abnormal white blood cells are produced in the bone marrow which do not function properly, crowding out healthy cells and weakening the immunity of the body and thus its ability to resist infections. It spreads quickly in children's bodies, and if not treated promptly it may lead to death. The manual detection of this disease is a tedious and slow task. Machine learning and deep learning techniques are faster than manual detection and more accurate. In this paper, a deep feature selection-based approach ResRandSVM is proposed for the detection of Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in blood smear images. The proposed approach uses seven deep-learning models: ResNet152, VGG16, DenseNet121, MobileNetV2, InceptionV3, EfficientNetB0 and ResNet50 for deep feature extraction from blood smear images. After that, three feature selection methods are used to extract valuable and important features: analysis of variance (ANOVA), principal component analysis (PCA), and Random Forest. Then the selected feature map is fed to four different classifiers, Adaboost, Support Vector Machine, Artificial Neural Network and Naïve Bayes models, to classify the images into leukemia and normal images. The model performs best with a combination of ResNet50 as a feature extractor, Random Forest as feature selection and Support Vector Machine as a classifier with an accuracy of 0.900, precision of 0.902, recall of 0.957 and F1-score of 0.929.

Exploring Pattern of Relapse in Pediatric Patients with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia and Acute Myeloid Leukemia Undergoing Stem Cell Transplant Using Machine Learning Methods

Abstract:Background. Leukemic relapse remains the primary cause of treatment failure and death after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Changes in post-transplant donor chimerism have been identified as a predictor of relapse. A better predictive model of relapse incorporating donor chimerism has the potential to improve leukemia-free survival by allowing earlier initiation of post-transplant treatment on individual patients. We explored the use of machine learning, a suite of analytical methods focusing on pattern recognition, to improve post-transplant relapse prediction. Methods. Using a cohort of 63 pediatric patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and 46 patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who underwent stem cell transplant at a single institution, we built predictive models of leukemic relapse with both pre-transplant and post-transplant patient variables (specifically lineage-specific chimerism) using the random forest classifier. Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations, an interpretable machine learning tool was used to confirm our random forest classification result. Results. Our analysis showed that a random forest model using these hyperparameter values achieved 85% accuracy, 85% sensitivity, 89% specificity for ALL, while for AML 81% accuracy, 75% sensitivity, and 100% specificity at predicting relapses within 24 months post-HSCT in cross validation. The Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations tool was able to confirm many variables that the random forest classifier identified as important for the relapse prediction. Conclusions. Machine learning methods can reveal the interaction of different risk factors of post-transplant leukemic relapse and robust predictions can be obtained even with a modest clinical dataset. The random forest classifier distinguished different important predictive factors between ALL and AML in our relapse models, consistent with previous knowledge, lending increased confidence to adopting machine learning prediction to clinical management.

Abstract:Traditionally, researchers, doctors, and hematologists have faced difficulties in making a timely diagnosis of leukemia. Since, unlike other malignancies, leukemia typically does not create a (tumor) that can be seen in imaging techniques like X-rays or CT scans. As a result the procedures available at medical diagnosis centres of leukemia consumes a lot of time. Influenced by the capabilities of artificial intelligence techniques diagnosing the disease, the paper introduces advanced CNN models which includes InceptionV3, DenseNet201, Xception, ResNet152V2, and two hybrid models, i.e., InceptionResNetV2 and XceptionInceptionResNetV2 for identifying and classifying normal and leukemia cancer cells. Accuracy, root mean square error, recall, precision, F1 score, and loss are used to evaluate all applied advanced learning models. The Acute lymphoblastic leukemia dataset, which is separated into two classes: normal cells and malignant leukemia cells, is used in this study. During the pre-processing stage, every image undergo enhancement and are visually shown to fetch the color channels in the shape of an RGB histogram. Later the images are augmented to produce regions of interest by generating extreme points and employing adaptive thresholding techniques before being provided to the applied models for training. During the experimentation, it was discovered that InceptionResNetV2 had the highest validation accuracy of 98.59%. Similarly, DenseNet201 had the highest precision (97.57%), followed by InceptionV3 with recall (95.77%) and F1 score (95.56%). Moreover, the confusion matrix has also been generated to obtain the models' recall, precision, and F1 score values for different classes of the dataset.

Abstract:The blood and bone marrow are affected by leukemia, a deadly kind of cancer, that significantly impacts the quality of life of those diagnosed. Early identification and precise diagnosis are crucial for improving survival rates. Fortunately, recent advancements in medical image analysis, particularly deep learning-based techniques, have greatly improved the ability to distinguish leukemia cells from healthy ones through microscopic cell images. This research introduces a deep learning-based leukemia cancer classifier, specifically a CNN pre-trained model, utilizing microscopic cell images to detect malignant cells. Using pre-processing techniques such as picture scaling, Region of Interest (RoI) extraction, and Improved Anisotropic Filtering (IAF) and feature extraction, the blood cell image dataset is first cleaned. After that leukemia-affected and healthy cells are evaluated using various classification algorithms and neural networks, with optimal features identified to improve classifier performance. The results suggest that neural networks function well as a classifier algorithm to detect whether the person is cancerous or non-cancerous, with the proposed CNN pre-trained model providing precision of 98.9%, which is higher than any other method mentioned. The proposed model prioritizes recall, a key performance metric, to reduce the number of false negatives. Accurate diagnosis and treatment are critical, as misdiagnosing a patient with cancer as not having cancer can lead to severe consequences. With the main objective of minimizing inadvertent mistakes made by physicians, the proposed model performs better than kNN, Decision Trees, Random Forest, SVM, and Logistic Regression models. Using deep learning-based techniques to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment is essential. Improving survival rates and the quality of life for individuals with leukemia requires early identification and accurate diagnosis. This research can help doctors make more accurate diagnoses, leading to more effective treatments and better outcomes for patients.

A Hybrid Feature Fusion Deep Learning Framework for Leukemia Cancer Detection in Microscopic Blood Sample Using Gated Recurrent Unit and Uncertainty Quantification

Abstract:Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most malignant form of leukemia and the most common cancer in adults and children. Traditionally, leukemia is diagnosed by analyzing blood and bone marrow smears under a microscope, with additional cytochemical tests for confirmation. However, these methods are expensive, time consuming, and highly dependent on expert knowledge. In recent years, deep learning, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), has provided advanced methods for classifying microscopic smear images, aiding in the detection of leukemic cells. These approaches are quick, cost effective, and not subject to human bias. However, most methods lack the ability to quantify uncertainty, which could lead to critical misdiagnoses. In this research, hybrid deep learning models (InceptionV3-GRU, EfficientNetB3-GRU, MobileNetV2-GRU) were implemented to classify ALL. Bayesian optimization was used to fine tune the model's hyperparameters and improve its performance. Additionally, Deep Ensemble uncertainty quantification was applied to address uncertainty during leukemia image classification. The proposed models were trained on the publicly available datasets ALL-IDB1 and ALL-IDB2. Their results were then aggregated at the score level using the sum rule. The parallel architecture used in these models offers a high level of confidence in differentiating between ALL and non-ALL cases. The proposed method achieved a remarkable detection accuracy rate of 100% on the ALL-IDB1 dataset, 98.07% on the ALL-IDB2 dataset, and 98.64% on the combined dataset, demonstrating its potential for accurate and reliable leukemia diagnosis.

Automated Peripheral Smear Recognition and Classification of LGL Leukemia Using Machine Learning

Abstract:Background: Machine learning can augment clinical decision support, especially in cases where complex diagnostic criteria are necessary. In making a diagnosis of LGL leukemia, a pathologist must review the peripheral smear thoroughly, which is a tedious process. Supervised machine learning has been successfully implemented in such cases by training on very large image-based datasets, followed by a corrective phase of updating the model weights and finally demonstrating a high degree of successful predictions in an independent dataset. We sought to assess whether a supervised machine learning model can automate histopathological image analysis and provide a degree of confidence in supporting a pathologist's manual review. Methods: We searched the published literature from 2016-2022 for high-definition peripheral smear images with confirmed cases. The samples were downloaded, pre-processed with the Segment Anything Model (SAM), and labeled as training, testing, or validation data. Non-pathological controls, defined as peripheral smears confirmed negative for LGLL, were also obtained from published literature and labeled manually. The neural network was written and trained on TensorFlow using the open-source Keras library with parallel threading and on a multicore GPU machine. The resulting predictive model had a binary classification task: Does the presented image have cells that resemble LGL cells, returning true or false. Every “true” label returned from the classifier also creates a stack of probable positives that need pathology review. Feedback from each pathologist review further updates the model weights to increase the probability of successful prediction in the future. Results: We screened 57 publications to obtain 163 high-definition peripheral smear images that had confirmed LGLL and 100 non-pathological smears. Two cohorts were created: 200 smears in a training cohort comprised of 100 LGLL smears and 100 non-pathological smears, and 63 smears in the validation cohort. To remain agnostic towards image orientation, we created 7 views of each smear, and 1400 total images underwent feature extraction using SAM. The resulting data was labeled and used for model training and our process is depicted visually below in Figure 1. During validation, our model accurately predicted LGL-cells in 56/63 cases with an 8% false positive rate, 2% false negatives and 2% unclassifiable. After updating model weights and re-training with Adaptive Boosting, the accuracy increased to 60/63 smears with a false-positive rate of 3%. Our trained classification model achieved an AUC of 0.8144. Conclusion: Supervised machine learning model with Adaptive Boosting can be used to label a peripheral smear image with a high likelihood of containing LGL cells and, in turn, help a pathologist review smears with higher priority in a timely fashion. Our initial training data was limited, which hindered the performance of our model; however, with a sufficiently large training dataset, we can drastically improve our accuracy. A more extensive training set with robust hardware can transform our image-recognition model into a foundational model where other clinical parameters can be added, and the final diagnostic probability will be based on multiple data streams. Our work takes a meaningful step in this direction, and future work at Karmanos Cancer Center will focus on extending our classifier to more sophisticated deep-learning algorithms. Our open-source platform will eventually support several niches in the future that are currently only served by commercial applications.

Abstract:This abstract describes a machine learning model for predicting the prognosis of cancer patients with leukemia. The model is based on analyzing patient data such as age, gender, diagnosis, lab results, treatment history, and prior hospitalizations. The model employs supervised learning techniques such as random forests and gradient boosting to generate predictions of survival probabilities. Additionally, the model uses feature engineering to identify important features and reduce noise in the data. The model is evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and other metrics. The results indicate that the model has good predictive accuracy and can be used to identify high-risk patients and guide clinical decisions. The goal of this project is to develop a machine learning model for the diagnosis and prognosis of leukemia in Indian patients. The model will use a progressive analysis of patient data to identify the characteristics associated with leukemia, including genetic markers, environmental exposures, lifestyle factors, and demographic information. Using this information, the model will be used to accurately predict the risk of developing leukemia in Indian patients. Additionally, the model will be used to identify the most effective treatments for those diagnosed with leukemia and to monitor the disease progression. Finally, the model will be evaluated for its accuracy and effectiveness in a clinical setting.

Abstract:In this study novel machine learning based neural and neuro-fuzzy prognostic models for leukemia clinical outcome prediction have been developed, based on clinical and morphometric diagnostic data. Motivation was to enable better prediction of complete cytogenetic response (CCgR) for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, compared to traditional and well-established scoring systems. Computational intelligence and machine learning have been applied to a wide range of problems to assist in decisionmaking, especially artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems and powerful hybrid neuro-fuzzy approaches have already proven their strong potentials in medicine. Despite that, applications in hematology are still scarce. This prospective study included a consecutive series of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) who were started on imatinib therapy. Analysis was performed with CCgR at different time intervals as the outcome variables. Machine learning based computationally intelligent neural and neuro-fuzzy models that were developed included EUTOS score on diagnosis and one of the angiogenesis morphometric parameters. The major finding of this study is that machine learning models using the morphometric parameters, available at diagnosis of chronic phase of the CML, may improve prediction of CCgR for patients on imatinib drug therapy, in comparison particularly to the EUTOS score being the standard prognostic scoring system and regression models using the same inputs.

Abstract:In the field of medicine, decision support systems play a crucial role by harnessing cutting-edge technology and data analysis to assist doctors in disease diagnosis and treatment. Leukemia is a malignancy that emerges from the uncontrolled growth of immature white blood cells within the human body. An accurate and prompt diagnosis of leukemia is desired due to its swift progression to distant parts of the body. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is an aggressive type of leukemia that affects both children and adults. Computer vision-based identification of leukemia is challenging due to structural irregularities and morphological similarities of blood entities. Deep neural networks have shown promise in extracting valuable information from image datasets, but they have high computational costs due to their extensive feature sets. This work presents an efficient pipeline for binary and subtype classification of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The proposed method first unveils a novel neighborhood pixel transformation method using differential evolution to improve the clarity and discriminability of blood cell images for better analysis. Next, a hybrid feature extraction approach is presented leveraging transfer learning from selected deep neural network models, InceptionV3 and DenseNet201, to extract comprehensive feature sets. To optimize feature selection, a customized binary Grey Wolf Algorithm is utilized, achieving an impressive 80% reduction in feature size while preserving key discriminative information. These optimized features subsequently empower multiple classifiers, potentially capturing diverse perspectives and amplifying classification accuracy. The proposed pipeline is validated on publicly available standard datasets of ALL images. For binary classification, the best average accuracy of 98.1% is achieved with 98.1% sensitivity and 98% precision. For ALL subtype classifications, the best accuracy of 98.14% was attained with 78.5% sensitivity and 98% precision. The proposed feature selection method shows a better convergence behavior as compared to classical population-based meta-heuristics. The suggested solution also demonstrates comparable or better performance in comparison to several existing techniques.

ALL/AML Cancer Classification by Gene Expression Data Using SVM and CSVM Approach

Abstract:Cancer classification plays an important role in cancer treatment. There has been no general approach for this problem now. The tasks for cancer classification are of two aspects: identifying new cancer classes and assigning tumors to known classes, which are called class discovery and class prediction by Golub et al. [1]. From mathematical point of view, class discovery is a cluster analysis problem, while class prediction is usually called classification problem (we’ll use the later name to keep consist with pattern recognition literatures). Until now, cancer classification has been based primarily on morphological appearance of tumor [1]. This has serious limitations because of ambiguity. Golub et al. presented a new approach to cancer classification based on gene expression monitoring by DNA microarrays in [1]. They chose acute leukemia as a test case, and the target is to distinguish between ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) and AML (acute myeloid leukemia), which is a typical cancer classification problem not well solved despite many years of efforts. This paper is a report of our work on the classification (prediction) part of this problem following their original work. Golub et al. adopted a feature selection (gene selection) procedure before classification. A metric was defined to evaluate the correlation of each gene to the classification. After some “good” genes were selected from all the 6817 genes, the classification is done by a weighted voting scheme. The classifier was trained on a 38-sample training set, and another 34-sample set was used for testing. With leave-one-out cross-validation on the training set with 50 selected genes, 36 out of 38 samples were correctly classified and 2 were rejected (no-call). The performance on the test set was that 29 samples out of 34 were correctly classified and the other 5 were rejected. If the classifier were compelled to give these 5 no-calls a prediction, the prediction would be wrong. Since the feature selection procedure is of single selection type, and the classification method is also an intuitive one, we believe that there is still much space for the performance to be improved. In our approach to the problem, we took all the genes for the classification (the selection problem will be discussed in another paper), and applied the support vector machine(SVM) method and one of its improved version CSVM as the classifier. Thanks to the better generalization ability of SVM and CSVM, much better performance was obtained.

Abstract:Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a highly heterogeneous disease. The current AML classifications are based mainly on molecular markers, including cytogenetics features, fusion genes, and the presence or absence of mutations. In this study, we investigated mutation status in AML patients through RNA-seq data in link with differential gene expression. We applied seven machine learning algorithms to identify the presence or absence of NPM1, IDH1/IDH2, and FLT3-ITD mutations, reaching 95%, 93%, and 87% accuracy, respectively. In each case, the best performing models were complex models, suggesting highly complex biological processes at work behind AML.
