Abstract:Abstract Aim To investigate the relationship among emotional intelligence (EI), resilience and academic procrastination (AP), and provide suggestions for the development of targeted intervention strategies and lowering of AP level of nursing undergraduates. Design A cross‐sectional study. Methods Three provincial universities offering nursing courses in China were investigated in this study. A convenience sample of 256 nursing undergraduates from May 2021 to September 2021 were recruited, with a response rate of 91.4%. Data were collected using face‐to‐face interviews. The survey tools included the General Information Questionnaire, Academic Procrastination Scale, Emotional Intelligence Scale and Resilience Scale. IBM SPSS v19.0 and Amos 22.0 were used for data analysis. Results The AP of sampled nursing undergraduates was at the middle level (54.4 ± 21.5). The AP of nursing undergraduates was negatively correlated with EI and resilience. Moreover, the analysis on the mediating role of resilience via structural equation model showed a good fit, with χ 2 /df = 2.34, RMSEA = 0.07, CFI = 0.99, GFI = 0.95, TLI = 0.98. Abstract:Objective: To investigate the relationship between personality traits and procrastination and the mediating role of emotional intelligence (EI) among a sample of Lebanese medical students. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between June and December 2019. A total of 296 students filled out a questionnaire that consisted of sociodemographic characteristics and the following scales: Procrastination Assessment Scale for Students, Big Five Personality Test, and Quick Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment Scale. Results: Since no bivariate associations were found between sociodemographic variables, they were not included in the mediation analysis. EI mediated the association between neuroticism and procrastination. Neuroticism was significantly associated with lower EI (P < .01) and lower procrastination (P < .001), whereas higher EI was significantly associated with lower procrastination (P < .001). EI mediated the association between openness to experience and procrastination. Openness to experience was significantly associated with higher EI and higher procrastination (P < .001), whereas higher EI was significantly associated with lower procrastination (P < .001). Conclusions: The results emphasize the role of EI in personality and procrastination and highlight its importance in clinical settings. It is important for clinicians, especially school and university counselors, to identify risk factors beyond low levels of adaptive personality traits such as EI within the clinical setting to reduce irrational procrastination and improve academic performance.

Abstract:Laparoscopic cholecystectomy becomes the most popular technique of the treatment of gallbladder lithiasis. The consequences of this procedure (including the influence of pneumoperitoneum on cardiorespiratory system, the increase of frequency of bile duct injury, shortening of hospital stay) are compared to classical cholecystectomy and minicholecystectomy. Further evaluation is necessary to choose between classical cholecystectomy, minicholecystectomy and laparoscopic cholecystectomy according to particular specificity of the patient.
The Mediating Role of Self-Compassion in the Relationship Between Anxiety and Procrastination

Abstract:Background: Procrastination is common among students. There are inconsistent evidence indicating the relationship between anxiety and procrastination. Similarly, underlying mechanisms of this relationship is not fully understood. One of these mechanisms may be self-compassion that may counteracts the negative effects of anxiety and procrastination. Hence, this research is aimed at investigating the mediating role of self-compassion in the relationship between anxiety and procrastination. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Shahed University. Subjects were selected from different faculties through cluster sampling method. Since a minimum sample size of 200 is necessary for Structural Equation Models, we distributed 300 questionnaires, but 210 questionnaires were appropriate to analysis. Students were asked to answer to tests, including anxiety, self-compassion, and procrastination scale. Results: Anxiety is correlated with procrastination and all subscales of self-compassion. Three components of self-compassion, including self-judgment (r = 0.305, P < 0.001), isolation (r = 0.225, P = 0.001), and over-identification (r = 0.288, P < 0.001) have significant correlation with procrastination. Results of calculation in AMOS showed self-judgment and over-identification explain the relationship between self-compassion and procrastination, and they are full mediators of the relationship between anxiety and procrastination (r = 0.236; P = 0.008; 95% CI (0.069, 0.453). Conclusions: Results are consistent with the researches and theory. There are anxiety provoking factors among students correlated with the academic performance and getting accepted by peers, leading to self-judgment and over identification that are related to negative results such as procrastination.

Abstract:Anxiety among nursing students documented during the COVID-19 pandemic reflected their fear of contracting infections, adhering to the mandatory use of masks in public, engaging in the new experience of distance learning, having financial problems, and so on. The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of emotional intelligence (EI) on nursing students’ coping strategies and anxiety during the pandemic. This cross-sectional correlational study was conducted in a university in Jordan. An online survey was used to obtain data from a sample of 282 nursing students who had returned to on-campus learning during the summer semester of 2019/2020. The survey held four parts: (a) questions about sociodemographics, (b) the General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale, (c) the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire-Short Form (TEIQue-SF), and (d) the Brief-Coping Behavior Questionnaire (Brief-COPE). The results showed that EI had a fully mediating role in the relationship between problem-focused coping strategies and anxiety, and it partially mediated the emotion-focused and avoidant/dysfunctional coping strategies and anxiety relationships. Nursing students who used the problem-focused coping strategies had high levels of EI, and with increasing levels of EI, anxiety levels decreased. Promoting the development of EI among nursing students would enable them to manage their emotions effectively and control their anxiety, particularly in new circumstances such as those that occurred during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Abstract:Background: Nursing students often face high levels of stress due to demanding responsibilities during clinical placement. Emotional regulation, the ability to manage and regulate one's emotions effectively, is crucial for nursing students in dealing with stress and maintaining their overall well-being. Additionally, learning motivation plays a vital role in students' engagement and academic success. The current investigation aimed at studying the link that exists among stress, learning motivation, and emotional regulation among Saudi undergraduate nursing students. The study also aimed at investigating the sequential mediating effects that motivation might perform in this association. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional methodology was used in the present research, which recruited 367 Saudi undergraduate nursing students. Results: The results of the ANOVA showed that the level of perceived stress was linearly and negatively correlated with emotional regulation and motivation. Upon conducting structural equation modeling, significant direct and indirect effect pathways were identified between perceived stress, emotional regulation, and motivation, while only indirect pathways were identified between perceived stress and emotional regulation. Conclusions: This study provides evidence of the mediating role of learning motivation in the relationship between perceived stress and emotional regulation among Saudi nursing students. The results highlight the negative impact of stress on emotional regulation and learning motivation and emphasize the importance of addressing motivational factors in interventions aimed at enhancing emotional regulation among nursing students.

Abstract:Abstract Aim To assess the mediating role of emotion regulation and emotional intelligence in the relationship between stress and academic engagement among Saudi undergraduate nursing students. Design This study employed a quantitative cross‐sectional research design. Methods The study recruited 367 Saudi undergraduate nursing students at a major Saudi university. Structural equation modelling was used to explore the mediational model. Results The results of the ANOVA and Welch F ‐test demonstrated that the emotional intelligence, emotional regulation and academic engagement scores were statistically significantly different according to stress levels ( p ‐values <0.01). Perceived stress has a statistically significant moderate negative correlation with academic engagement and emotional intelligence and a strong negative correlation with emotional regulation. The results also showed that academic engagement had a statistically significant moderate positive association with emotional intelligence and emotional regulation. Results indicate that stress and academic engagement are negatively correlated among Saudi undergraduate nursing students. It focuses on the balancing functions of emotional regulation and emotional intelligence, highlighting their ability to lower stress levels and improve academic engagement. Abstract:The issue of academic procrastination is highly prevalent among university students. It not only has a deterimental effect on students' academic performance but also poses a risk to their physical and mental well-being. Anxiety, as a negative emotion, has attracted researchers' attention in relation to academic procrastination. Research indicates a correlation between state anxiety and academic procrastination, but the underlying mechanisms that drive this association remain unclear. When individuals experience ego-depletion, it can lead to psychological exhaustion, subsequently leading to procrastination. Gender role conceptions, shaped by sociocultural and psychological mechanisms, have profound implications on individuals' cognition, emotions, and behaviors. This study primarily aims to explore the relationship between state anxiety and academic procrastination among university students, with a particularly focus on the mediating role of ego-depletion and the moderating role of gender. A survey using the State Anxiety Scale, Ego-Depletion Scale, and Irrational Procrastination Scale was administered to 3370 undergraduates. State anxiety shows positive correlations with ego depletion and academic procrastination (r = 0.665, p < 0.01; r = 0.491, p < 0.01), while ego depletion is also positively linked to academic procrastination (r = 0.500, p < 0.01). State anxiety serves as a positive predictor of academic procrastination, with a confidence interval of 95% [0.626, 0.696]; additionally, ego depletion partially mediates the relationship between state anxiety and academic procrastination, with a confidence interval of 95% [0.168, 0.251]. Gender acts as a moderator in directly predicting the impact of state anxiety on academic procrastination and in the latter stage of mediating the effect of ego depletion. State anxiety can significantly and positively predict academic procrastination among university students. Ego-depletion partially mediates the relationship between state anxiety and academic procrastination. The direct predictive effect of state anxiety on academic procrastination, as well as the mediating role of ego-depletion, is moderated by gender. This provides educators and university students themselves with reference for addressing the issue of academic procrastination.

Abstract:Background and Objectives: Academic procrastination can have an adverse effect on students' educational, communicational, health, and career prospects. Therefore, recognizing the factors affecting academic procrastination among students is essential. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between academic procrastination with emotional intelligence and self-efficacy among operating room students of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional correlational study was performed on 95 operating room students of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Data collection tools included demographic information questionnaires, academic procrastination questionnaire, Scherer general self-efficacy scale and schutte self-report emotional intelligence scale. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficient and simultaneous multiple regression by SPSS software version 21. Results: The Mean±‌SD scores of academic procrastination, self-efficacy and emotional intelligence were 20.6±‌8.7, 63.1±‌9.3 and 119.2±‌17.6, respectively. There was a significant and inverse correlation between academic procrastination with self-efficacy (P‌=‌ 0.001, r‌=‌ -0.339) and emotional intelligence (P‌=‌0.007, r‌=‌ -0.276). The results of regression analysis showed that the model of predicting academic procrastination based on self-efficacy is significant (P‌=‌0.035). Academic procrastination based on emotional intelligence was not significant (P‌=‌0.474). Conclusion: The results of this study show that academic procrastination is less among students with higher self-efficacy and emotional intelligence.
Investigating fear, depressive symptoms and coping mechanisms among Egyptian nursing students amidst the covid-19 pandemic: a cross-sectional study

Abstract:Abstract Background Amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, nursing students' contribution to combating this global health crisis is becoming more significant. However, we need a more comprehensive understanding of the psychological impact of this crisis on these students. Therefore, this study holds immense importance as it offers valuable insights into the connection between COVID-19 pandemic fear, coping strategies, and depressive symptoms among nursing students. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted to collect and analyze data from 319 undergraduate nursing students. They participated in the study by responding to an online questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of the Fear of the Coronavirus Questionnaire, Brief Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced, and the Beck Depression Inventory-II. Results The study revealed that 45.5% of the participants had a severe fear of COVID-19, 21.9% showed severe depressive symptoms, and 64.6% used moderate coping mechanisms. A positive correlation ( r = 0.160, p = 0.01) was found between the fear of COVID-19 and depressive symptoms. Interestingly, this correlation turned negative ( r = -0.074, p = 0.01) when adaptive coping strategies such as religion, acceptance, planning, positive reframing, instrumental support, emotional support, active coping, and humor were used. However, when participants resorted to maladaptive coping strategies like venting, self-distraction, self-blame, behavioral disengagement, denial, and substance abuse, the correlation between high fear levels and depressive symptoms became positive ( r = 0.352, p = 0.01). Conclusion The study demonstrated that the fear of COVID-19 and depressive symptoms among nursing students are significantly correlated. However, the nature of this correlation is influenced by the type of coping strategies employed. Adaptive coping mechanisms can mitigate the impact of fear on depressive symptoms. In contrast, maladaptive coping can exacerbate the relationship between fear and depressive symptoms. Therefore, promoting adaptive coping strategies could be a crucial approach to managing the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract:Procrastination is associated with negative consequences concerning mental health, performance as well as physical and psychological well-being. Procrastination has been found to be an instinctive response to depression, anxiety and stress among college students. The study was conducted to investigate the impact of academic procrastination on psychological burden among students. This quantitative nature of study was completed through correlational research design. Survey was conducted as a method of data collection. Convenient sampling technique was used to select the sample of 251 college students. The collected data were analyzed on SPSS. Inferential statistics was utilized to test hypotheses. Pearson correlation and linear regression analysis was performed. Findings of the study reveal that academic procrastination is significant positive predictor of psychological burden (depression, anxiety and stress) among college students. Moreover, there is positive relationship between academic procrastination, depression, anxiety and stress.
Academic procrastination in university students: Associated factors and impact on academic performance

Abstract:Introduction Academic procrastination is a specific sub-type of procrastination, assessing the tendency to delay academic tasks in connection with the preparation of courses or exams. Objectives To determine the impact of academic procrastination on studies and academic performances and identify associated factors. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study in students from three different universities: a medical school, a law school and an engineering school. Socio-demographic, clinical and academic data were collected. Procrastination was assessed using the Academic Procrastination Scale. We further administered the Short Version of the impulsive behaviour scale, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, the Perfectionism scale, and the one item Self-esteem Scale. Results Our sample consisted of 1019 students. The mean age was 22 ± 2.25 years, and 62% were females. About one third of study participants used tobacco or alcohol, and 10% used drugs (cannabis or others). We found a significant positive correlation between procrastination and academic failure (r=0.22 p= 0.00) and a negative correlation with academic success (r= -0.27 p=0.00). Multivariate regression analysis showed the following risk factors for academic procrastination: alcohol consumption (ORa= 1.74 [1.14; 2.67]), study field (with reference to medicine: law ORa= 1.50 [1.02; 2.19], engineering studies ORa= 2.01 [1.34; 3.02]), and impulsivity (ORa= 2.11 [1.55; 2.86]). Conclusions Academic procrastination has a negative impact on academic achievement and performance. This impact appears to differ depending on the field of study. It also seems closely related to impulsiveness and alcohol use. Our findings might contribute to find new ways of helping students to improve academic performance. Clinical environmental stressors and coping behaviors among undergraduate nursing students in Saudi Arabia: A cross-sectional study

Abstract:Objectives: This study aimed to explore the level of stress, stressors sources, and coping strategies used among female Saudi undergraduate nursing students during their clinical practice. Methods: A cross-sectional design was used. Using a convenience sampling technique, female nursing students in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Alahsa who enrolled in clinical courses were recruited from a governmental university from January to May 2022. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire including socio-demographic characteristics, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the Coping Behavior Inventory (CBI). Results: The degree of stress perceived by the 332 participants ranged from 3 to 99 (54.77 ± 0.95). Stress from assignments and workload was the most common type of stressor perceived by nursing students, with a score of 2.61 ± 0.94, followed by stress from the environment, with a score of 1.18 ± 0.47. Meanwhile, the students used staying optimistic as the most adopted strategy, with a score of 2.38 ± 0.95, followed by the transference strategy, a score of 2.36 ± 0.71, and the problem-solving strategy scored 2.35 ± 1.01. The coping strategy of avoidance is positively correlated with all of the stressor types (P < 0.01), while the problem-solving strategy is negatively correlated with stress from peers and daily life (r = -0.126, P < 0.05). Transference is positively correlated with stress from assignments and workload (r = 0.121, P < 0.05), and stress from teachers and nursing staff (r = 0.156, P < 0.01). Lastly, staying optimistic is negatively correlated with stress from taking care of patients (r = -0.149, P < 0.01), and with stress from lack of professional knowledge and skills (r = -0.245, P < 0.01). Conclusions: These research findings are significant for nursing educators to identify nursing students' main stressors and coping strategies used. Effective countermeasures should be taken to promote a healthy learning environment, decrease the level of stressors and improve students' coping strategies during clinical practice.

Abstract:In this study, the relationship between negative core self-evaluation, emotional regulation, and academic procrastination in college students was investigated, and whether emotional regulation behavior had a moderating effect in the relationship between negative core self-evaluation and academic procrastination behavior. A questionnaire survey was conducted among college students using the negative core self-evaluation scale, the emotional regulation scale, and the academic procrastination scale, and the data collected from 225 students were analyzed. Using SPSS 24.0, descriptive statistics and correlation analysis of major variables were performed, and hierarchical regression analysis was performed to confirm whether emotional regulation behavior had a moderating effect in the relationship between negative core self-evaluation and academic procrastination. In addition, the interaction effect was verified using the SPSS PROCESS Macro. The analysis results are summarized as follows. First, as a result of correlation analysis of major variables, there was a positive correlation between negative core self-evaluation and academic procrastination, and negative correlation with emotional regulation. Second, in the relationship between negative core self-evaluation and academic procrastination, emotional regulation behavior was found to have a moderating effect. Third, in the relationship between negative core self-evaluation and academic procrastination, the moderating effects of self-emotional regulation behavior and others’ emotional regulation behavior, which are sub-factors of emotional regulation behavior, were statistically significant. Finally, in order to improve academic procrastination behavior in counseling for college students with high negative core self-evaluation tendencies, educational intervention methods using emotional regulation behaviors, limitations of the study, and suggestions for follow-up studies were discussed.
The Contribution of Both Personal Traits and Emotional Intelligence in Predicting Academic Procrastination Patterns Among a Sample of Female Students at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah

Abstract:The study aimed to investigate the impact of personality traits and emotional intelligence on predicting academic procrastination patterns among a sample of female students at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. The researcher employed a descriptive correlational methodology to achieve the study objectives. The study sample consisted of 250 female students from various scientific, administrative, humanitarian, and health disciplines at King Abdulaziz University, selected randomly. The researcher utilized Abu Qouidar's (2022) Personality Traits Scale, Ben Amr's (2017) Emotional Intelligence Scale, and Faisal and Saleh's (2018) Academic Procrastination Patterns Scale in the study. The results revealed the most prevalent personality traits among the study sample, with the trait of agreeableness emerging as the most common. The findings also indicated a high level of emotional intelligence among the students. The most common academic procrastination pattern among the study sample was perfectionist procrastination. The results further demonstrated a correlation between personality traits and emotional intelligence. However, no significant correlation was found between personality traits and academic procrastination patterns, except for agreeableness, which exhibited a positive correlation with procrastination patterns. Dedication, on the other hand, showed a negative correlation with academic procrastination patterns. The remaining dimensions of personality traits were not correlated with academic procrastination patterns. Additionally, the results showed an inverse relationship between emotional intelligence and academic procrastination patterns. The findings suggested that certain personality traits (agreeableness, dedication) and emotional intelligence significantly contribute to predicting academic procrastination patterns among female students at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah.
The association between perfectionism and academic procrastination among undergraduate nursing students: The role of self‐efficacy and resilience

Abstract:AIMS: This study aimed to investigate the associations between perfectionism and undergraduate nursing students' academic procrastination, the mediating effects of self-efficacy and the moderating role of resilience.DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey.METHODS: The survey was conducted from March to May 2022 with a sample of 587 undergraduate nursing students in two undergraduate universities in China. A descriptive statistical approach, Pearson's correlation analysis and the Hayes' PROCESS Macro model 4 and 14 were used to analyse the available data.RESULTS: Adaptive perfectionism and maladaptive perfectionism negatively and positively predicted academic procrastination in nursing undergraduates, respectively. Self-efficacy played a partially mediating role in the association between adaptive perfectionism and academic procrastination. Furthermore, resilience played a moderating role in the association between adaptive perfectionism and academic procrastination.CONCLUSIONS: Maladaptive perfectionism and low levels of resilience and self-efficacy may increase the risk of academic procrastination among nursing undergraduates. Nursing educators can take measures to decrease the risk of academic procrastination among nursing undergraduate students by guiding them to cultivate adaptive perfectionism tendencies and improve their self-efficacy and resilience.IMPACT: The findings of this study can be used to develop targeted coping and prevention measures for nursing educators to reduce the incidence of academic procrastination among nursing undergraduates.PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: Five hundred eighty-seven undergraduate nursing students from two undergraduate universities participated in the study and responded to questions on perfectionism and academic procrastination, etc.

Abstract:Abstract Background Climate change, a pervasive global phenomenon, exerts discernible impacts on the physical, social, and psychological dimensions of well-being. The apprehension surrounding this complex environmental issue has reached a critical juncture, with over 76,000 individuals across more than thirty nations expressing profound levels of concern, characterizing their anxiety as either "very" or "extremely" pronounced. This surge in awareness regarding the potential consequences of climate change has given rise to an emergent and escalating challenge known as climate anxiety. This distinctive form of anxiety manifests through profound feelings of fear, helplessness, and despair elicited by the impending repercussions of climate change. Notably, the intersection of climate anxiety with occupational domains, particularly within the context of Nursing University Colleagues, suggests a nuanced relationship with job engagement, wherein the psychological responses to climate change may influence professional commitment and involvement. Aim of the study To examine the correlation among Climate Anxiety, Environmental Attitude, and Job Engagement among Nursing University Colleagues comprising eight distinct nursing faculties. Design A multicenter descriptive, cross-sectional research design study followed. Subject Three hundred fifty-nine participants from the Centre, Delta, West, Suez Canal, and Upper regions of Egypt using a stratified random cluster sampling technique. Measurements Social and health related to climate data structured questionnaire, climate anxiety scale, environmental attitude inventory, and job engagement scale. Results The influence of demographics on climate anxiety, environmental attitude, and job involvement was not observed. Nevertheless, geographical variations emerged as a noteworthy factor. A statistically significant inverse correlation was identified between climate anxiety, job engagement dimensions, and the overall score of environmental attitudes. Conclusion Climate anxiety was strongly associated with environmental attitudes and job engagement among nursing university colleagues. Higher climate anxiety is associated with a lower attitude towards the environment and decreased job engagement. Additionally, a higher attitude towards the environment is associated with decreased overall engagement in participants’ jobs. Implications The study's patterns make it clear how important it is to provide targeted psycho-educational interventions to help reduce climate anxiety among the group of nursing university colleagues. The imperative lies not only in alleviating the immediate psychological distress associated with heightened climate anxiety but also in fostering adaptive coping mechanisms. By doing so, these interventions serve as instrumental tools in nurturing resilience, thereby fortifying the mental well-being of nursing professionals amidst the evolving landscape of climate-related concerns.

Academic Procrastination and Cognitive Emotional Regulation among Young Adults

Abstract:More than often, there are instances when there is a gap between our intentions to do something and actually doing something, this gap is what we refer to as procrastination. This in turn induces an imbalance in our emotional equilibrium. By a lot of research academic procrastination has been associated with numerous factors such as low motivation, self- esteem issues, perception of a task as difficult etc. The present research aims to study the relation between academic procrastination and cognitive emotional regulation in young adults. A sample of 40 students, aged 18-25 was taken and standardized tools were used. The results found out that there is a significant negative correlation between procrastination and cognitive emotional regulation. Further it was suggested that division of tasks in a proper manner should be implemented so as to prevent emotional overload. Positive and realistic affirmations could also be very effective in regulating the feelings. Lastly, Cognitive Behaviour therapy (CBT) is also one of the strongest interventions that could be employed.
