Abstract:In this article, we have proposed memory-type exponential and non-exponential estimators for population variance based on exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) statistic in stratified sampling. We drive mathematical expressions for mean square errors of the proposed estimators using Taylor and exponential expansions. Our analysis demonstrates that the proposed memory-type estimators outperform the conventional estimators under stratification, particularly, when the information of previous sample is utilized. The performances of the proposed estimators are evaluated mathematically by deriving the conditions in which the memory-type estimators would perform better than their corresponding conventional estimators under stratification. Through an extensive simulation, we evaluated the performance of the proposed estimators across various population parameters, revealing their enhanced efficiency in time-scaled survey. Additionally, a real data application is also used to support the mathematical findings, confirming the practical utility of the proposed estimators. The results of numerical study underscore the importance of the use of previous sampled information which significantly improves the accuracy and reliability of the proposed estimator for variance estimation for time-scaled surveys.

Abstract:A linear model for longitudinal data with continuous responses and error-prone covariates via quadratic in-ference functions methods is considered. Asymptotic normality of the parameter estimators is established by quadratic inference functions. In order to testing interested parameter,the statistic that proposed asymptotically follows a chi-squared distribution. The finite-sample properties of the procedures are studied through Monte Carlo simulations. At last,an application to a longitudinal study is used to illustrate the procedure developed here.

Abstract:This paper proposes a generalized class of difference-cum-exponential-type estimators for population mean under simple random sampling without replacement through known conventional and non-conventional auxiliary information. It is observed that some well-known estimators are the members of our proposed class. Moreover, proposed class of estimators behaves efficiently than competing estimators under some simple conditions. Theoretical findings are confirmed with numerical illustration by using six real-life datasets. In addition, Monte Carlo simulation study on four real populations also approved the potential of the proposed class against competing estimators.

Abstract:Missing information is a typical issue in sampling surveys. The analysts have perceived that statistical inference possibly ruined due to occurrence of non-response. Ratio type regression estimators under simple random sampling (SRS) scheme for estimating the population mean are commonly used when some of the data suffered with the issue of missingness. It is worth noting that this class is based on ordinary least square regression coefficient which is not suitable when extreme values present in the data set. In this research, primarily a modified class of estimators is presented by adapting the idea of Zaman and Bulut. Later on, a class of quantile regression type estimators is defined which is an effective technique in presence of extreme observations. The utilization of quantile regression in the idea of Zaman and Bulut's work empowered the proposed class of estimators for the estimation of population mean especially for missingness in the data. For mean square error (MSE), the hypothetical equations are also formulated for adapted and proposed estimators, on the basis of three possible cases of missingness. To justify the proposed work these hypothetical innovations are illustrated by the numerical demonstrations.

Abstract:Most of the research work in the theory of survey sampling only deals with the sampling errors under the assumptions: (i) there is a complete response and (ii) recorded information from individuals is correct but in practice it is not always true. Non-sampling errors like non-response and measurement errors (MEs) mostly creep into the survey and become more influential for estimators than sampling errors. Considering this practical situation of non-response and MEs jointly, we proposed an optimum class of estimators for population mean under simple random sampling using conventional and non-conventional measures. Bias and mean square error of the proposed estimators are derived up to first degree of approximation. Moreover, a simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of new estimators which proves that proposed estimators are more efficient than the traditional Hansen and Hurwitz estimator and other competing estimators.

Abstract:With an emphasis on memory-type approaches, this study presents a class of estimators specifically designed for estimating population variation in simple random sampling (SRS). The term 'memory-type' pertaining to the use of exponentially weighted moving averages (EWMA) statistic for the estimation, which utilizes the current and past information in temporal surveys. The study provides expressions for the bias and mean square error (MSE) of these estimators and establishes conditions under which their efficiency represses the conventional and other memory-type estimators. The theoretical findings are reinforced through a comprehensive simulation study conducted on hypothetically sampled populations. Additionally, the effectiveness of the proposed estimators is demonstrated utilizing real-life population data. The findings of simulation and real data application show the superiority of the proposed memory type estimator over the existing usual and memory type estimators.

Abstract:Time-based surveys often experience missing data due to several reasons, like non-response or data collection limitations. Imputation methods play an essential role in incorporating these missing values to secure the accuracy and reliability of the survey outcomes. This manuscript proposes some optimal class of memory type imputation methods for imputing missing data in time-based surveys by utilizing exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) statistics. The insights into the optimal conditions for incorporating our proposed methods are provided. A comprehensive examination of the proposed method utilizing simulated and real-life datasets is conducted. Comparative analyses against the existing imputation methods exhibit the superior performance of our methods, particularly in the scenarios characterized by developing trends and dynamic response patterns. The outcomes highlight the effectiveness of utilizing EWMA statistics into memory type imputation methods, displaying their flexibility to changing survey dynamics.

Abstract:In this article, we propose a general family of exponential-type estimators for enhanced estimation of population mean in simple random sampling. These estimators are based on the available parameters of the auxiliary variable such as coefficient of skewness, coefficient of kurtosis, standard deviation and coefficient of variation etc. Expressions for bias, mean squared error and minimum mean squared error of the proposed family are derived up to first degree of approximation. Five natural populations are considered to assess the performance of the proposed estimators. Numerical findings confirm that the proposed estimators dominate over the existing estimators such as sample mean, ratio, regression, Singh et al. (2008, 2009), Upadhyaya et al. (2011), Yadav and Kadilar (2013) and Kadilar (2016) in terms of mean squared error.

Abstract:Estimation of population mean is of prime concern in many studies and ratio estimators are popular choices for it. It is a common practice to use conventional measures of location to develop ratio estimators using information on auxiliary variables. In this article, we propose a class of ratio estimators for a finite population mean using information on two auxiliary variables with the help of some non-conventional location measures. We have incorporated tri-mean, Hodges-Lehmann, mid-range and decile mean of the two auxiliary variables to serve the purpose. The properties associated with the proposed class of ratio estimators are evaluated using mean square error. We have presented efficiency comparisons of the proposed class of ratio estimators with other existing estimators under the optimal conditions. An empirical study is also included for illustration and verification purposes. From theoretical and empirical study, we observed that the proposed estimators perform better as compared to the usual ratio and the existing estimators consider in this study.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a new estimator of the change point in variance of measurement errors in terms of U -statistics based on characteristic functions. We also investigate the strong consistency and convergence rates of the estimator. In addition, we develop the asymptotic distribution of the change point estimator under local alternative hypothesis, which is a two-side Brownian motion with a drift. Simulation results show that our estimator is significantly better than the estimator posed in [C.L. Abstract:We introduce a correction for covariate measurement error in nonparametric regression applied to longitudinal binary data arising from a study on human sleep. The data have been surveyed to investigate the association of some hormonal levels and the probability of being asleep. The hormonal effect is modeled flexibly while we account for the error-prone measurement of its concentration in the blood and the longitudinal character of the data. We present a fully Bayesian treatment utilizing Markov chain Monte Carlo inference techniques, and also introduce block updating to improve sampling and computational performance in the binary case. Our model is partly inspired by the relevance vector machine with radial basis functions, where usually very few basis functions are automatically selected for fitting the data. In the proposed approach, we implement such data-driven complexity regulation by adopting the idea of Bayesian model averaging. Besides the general theory and the detailed sampling scheme, we also provide a simulation study for the Gaussian and the binary cases by comparing our method to the naive analysis ignoring measurement error. The results demonstrate a clear gain when using the proposed correction method, particularly for the Gaussian case with medium and large measurement error variances, even if the covariate model is misspecified.

Abstract:Consider a repeated measurement regression model yij=g(xi)+εij where i=1,…,n, j=1,…,m, yij's are responses, g(·) is an unknown function, xi's are design points, εij's are random errors with a one-way error component structure, i.e. εij=μi+νij, μi and νij's are i.i.d random variables with mean zero, variance σμ2 and σν2, respectively. This paper focuses on estimating σμ2 and σν2. It is well known that although the residual-based estimator of σν2 works very well the residual-based estimator of σμ2 works poorly, especially when the sample size is small. We here propose a difference-based estimation and show the resulted estimator of σμ2 performs much better than the residual-based one. In addition, we show the difference-based estimator of σν2 is equal to the residual-based one. This explains why the residual-based estimator of σν2 works very well even when the sample size is small. Another advantage of the difference-based estimation is that it does not need to estimate the unknown function g(·). The asymptotic normalities of the difference-based estimators are established.

Abstract:A control chart is one of the important industrial tools used for monitoring the stability of manufacturing processes. The performance of the control charts can be affected in the presence of measurement error, which also leads to erroneous conclusions. In this article, we examined the effect of measurement error on an adaptive exponentially weighted moving average (AEWMA) control chart by using simple random sampling (SRS) and ranked set sampling (RSS) schemes. The linear covariate model is used to evaluate the control chart in the presence of measurement error. The case of multiple measurements and linear increasing variance is also investigated in the presence of measurement error. The average run length (<i>ARL</i>) and the standard deviation of run length (<i>SDRL</i>) are used as the performance measurement tool. Our results from the simulations and real data application demonstrated that measurement error affects the performance of control charts and multiple measurements are recommended to be used to avoid the effects of measurement error.

Abstract:There are relatively few discussions about measurement error in the accelerated failure time (AFT) model, particularly for the semiparametric AFT model. In this article, we propose an adjusted estimation procedure for the semiparametric AFT model with covariates subject to measurement error, based on the profile likelihood approach and simulation and exploration (SIMEX) method. The simulation studies show that the proposed semiparametric SIMEX approach performs well. The proposed approach is applied to a coronary heart disease dataset from the Busselton Health study for illustration.
