Abstract:Purpose: To compare an optical coherence tomography (OCT) real-world reference database (RW-RDB) of "healthy" eyes obtained from optometry practices to a commercial reference database (RDB). Methods: OCT scans from 6804 individuals 18 years and older were sampled from a larger database tested at 10 optometry practices involved in refractive and screening services. Employing a reading center method, OCT scans from both eyes of 4932 (4.9K) individuals were judged to be of acceptable quality with an absence of pathology. The 4.9K RW-RDB was compared to a commercial RDB with 398 eyes (398 RDB). Results: The means and distributions of global circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (G-cpRNFL) and global ganglion cell layer (G-GCL) thickness, as well as five key anatomical parameters affecting cpRNFL thickness, were not significantly different for all but one parameter (fovea-to-disc distance) and one thickness metric (G-cpRNFL). In both cases, the difference amounted to less than 1.5%. By design, the number of 4.9K RW-RDB eyes 70 years and older (724, 14.7%) was greater than for the 398 RDB (40, 10.1%). The error bands on the 5% and 1% quantile regression lines (QRLs) were substantially narrower for the 4.9K RW-RDB. Conclusions: The 398 RDB and 4.9K RW-RDB have similar characteristics and appear to come from a similar population. However, the large size of the 4.9K RW-RDB leads to narrower error bands of the QRLs, which has the potential to increase accuracy. Translational relevance: The larger RW-RDB offers the opportunity to better characterize healthy eyes for clinical diagnosis and clinical trials by furthering our understanding of the patterns of artifacts, exploring covariates, developing separate RW-RDBs, and/or improving AI models.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To provide up-to-date information and analyse recent changes in lung cancer mortality trends among women. DESIGN The present study analysed subjects by geographical area in Spain during the period 1980-2005 using joinpoint regression models. Age-standardised mortality rates (ASR) for lung cancer were computed from death certificate data obtained from the official authorities in Spain. Joinpoint regression analysis was used to identify the years when significant changes in the linear slope of the temporal trend occurred. RESULTS The overall ASR changed during the period studied from 5.7 per 100,000 women in 1980 to 8.2/100,000 in 2005, with an average annual increase of 1.7%. Joinpoint regression analysis detected different trends in most Spanish communities. These changes occurred in the late 1980s or early 1990s. ASR among those women aged 35-64 years doubled during the period of study, from 5.6 in 1980 to 11.3 in 2005. CONCLUSIONS Time trends in lung cancer mortality among women are increasing sharply, especially in the age group 35-64 years, indicating the start of an epidemic phenomenon of lung cancer in women.
Repeatability of a Virtual Reality Headset Perimeter in Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertensive Patients

Abstract:Purpose: The VisuALL S is an automated, static threshold, virtual reality-based perimeter for mobile evaluation of the visual field. We examined same-day and 3-month repeatability. Methods: Adult participants with a diagnosis of glaucoma or ocular hypertension underwent two VisuALL 24-2 Normal T- Full threshold strategy tests at baseline and one additional exam at 3 months for each eligible eye. Spearman, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), and Bland-Altman plots were used to assess the correlation of individual point sensitivities and mean deviation (MD) among three tests. Results: Eighty-eight eyes (44 participants) were included. Average age was 68.1 ± 14.3 years, and 60.7% were male. VisuALL MD was highly correlated between tests (intravisit: r = 0.89, intervisit: r = 0.82; P < 0.001 for both). Bland-Altman analysis showed an average difference in intravisit MD of -0.67 dB (95% confidence interval [CI], -6.04 to 4.71 dB) and -0.15 dB (95% CI, -8.04 to 7.73 dB) for intervisit exams. Eight-five percent of pointwise intravisit ICCs were above 0.75 (range, 0.63 to 0.93), and 65% of pointwise intervisit ICCs were above 0.75 (range, 0.55 to 0.91). Conclusions: VisuALL demonstrated high correlation of MD between tests and good repeatability for individual point sensitivities among three tests in 3 months, except at the points around the blind spot and superiorly. Translational relevance: The preliminary reproducibility results for VisuALL are encouraging. Its portable design makes it a potentially useful tool for patients with glaucoma, enabling more frequent assessments both at home and in clinical settings.

Abstract:Purpose: Compare estimated sensitivities of SITA-Standard to the RATA-Standard algorithm of the Radius virtual reality perimeter (VRP), and measure concordance in glaucoma staging.Methods: One hundred adult glaucoma patients-half with suspect or mild glaucoma, and half with moderate or severe-from five clinics performed four 24-2 visual field tests during a single visit, two with the Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) and two with Radius, in randomized order: HRHR or RHRH. Only one eye was tested per participant. We used the Wilcoxon rank sum test with Bonferroni correction to compare distributions of estimated sensitivities across all 54 test locations over the 15 to 40 dB measurement range of the Radius. Weighted kappa measured concordance in glaucoma staging between two masked glaucoma experts using Medicare definitions of severity.Results: A total of 62 OD and 38 OS eyes were tested. Estimated sensitivities for SITA-Standard and RATA-Standard were not significantly different for OD, but were for OS-likely because of SITA-Standard OD and OS being significantly different in our sample, but not for RATA-Standard. Low agreement was observed between 15 to 22 dB. Concordance in glaucoma staging was high for both graders: kappa = 0.91 and kappa = 0.93. Average test duration was 298 seconds for RATA-Standard and 341 seconds for SITA-Standard. The correlation in mean deviation was 0.94.Conclusions: Estimated sensitivities of RATA-Standard are comparable to SITA-Standard between 23 to 40 dB with high concordance in glaucoma staging.Translational Relevance: Radius VRP is statistically noninferior to HFA when staging glaucoma using Medicare definitions.

Abstract:Purpose: To determine normal threshold values for the 24-2 program of the VisuALL-K (Olleyes, Inc), a portable static automated virtual reality perimeter that uses a video game–based testing modality on an updated version of the algorithm and to repeat the test to assess retest variability. Methods: This prospective cohort study included 19 participants (aged 8 to 17 years) with healthy afferent systems. Participants performed two 24-2 automated perimetry tests on the virtual reality perimeter device. Results: Mean age was 12.7 ± 2.5 years; 53% were boys and 47% were girls. Mean test location threshold was 30.5 ± 4.0 dB for test 1 and 31.3 ± 2.8 dB for test 2. Sensitivity decreased with eccentricity as expected (−0.17 dB per degree). Bland-Altman analysis showed a repeatability coefficient of ±5.1 dB for mean deviation, meaning that 95% of retest values were within ±5 dB of the threshold value for the first test. Higher thresholds for the first test regressed toward the mean values in the second test, indicating a learning effect. Intraclass correlation coefficient for mean deviation between test 1 and test 2 was 0.70 (0.55 to 0.80, P < .0001). Mean time to completion for the virtual reality perimeter was 5.1 ± 1.5 min/eye. Conclusions: The VisuALL-K virtual reality perimeter provided an assessment of the visual field in normal children aged 8 to 17 years. A shallow hill of vision was demonstrated. Abstract:Purpose: To determine normal values of the visual field (VF), corrected for age and reaction time (RT) for semiautomated kinetic perimetry (SKP) on the Octopus 900 perimeter, create a model describing the age-dependency of these values, and assess test-retest reliability for each isopter. Methods: Eighty-six eyes of 86 ophthalmologically healthy subjects (age 11-79 years, 34 males, 52 females) underwent full-field kinetic perimetry with the Octopus 900 instrument. Stimulus size, luminance, velocity, meridional angle, subject age, and their interactions, were used to create a smooth multiple regression mathematical model (V/4e, III/4e, I/4e, I/3e, I/2e, I/1e, and I/1a isopters). Fourteen subjects (2 from each of 7 age groups) were evaluated on three separate sessions to assess test-retest reliability of the isopters. Reaction time (RT) was tested by presenting 12 designated RT-vectors between 10° and 20° within the seeing areas for the III/4e isopter (stimulus velocity, 3°/second). Four RT- vectors were presented at the nasal (0° or 180°), superotemporal (45°), and inferior (270°) meridians. Results: The model fit was excellent (r2 = 0.94). The test-retest variability was less than 5°, and the median decrease in this deviation attributed to aging, per decade, for all age groups and for all stimulus sizes was 0.8°. No significant learning effect was observed for any age group or isopter. Conclusion: Age-corrected and RT-corrected normative threshold values for full-field kinetic perimetry can be adequately described by a smooth multiple linear regression mathematical model. Translational relevance: A description of the entire kinetic VF is useful for assessing a full characterization of VF sensitivity, determining function losses associated with ocular and neurologic diseases, and for providing a more comprehensive analysis of structure-function relationships.

Abstract:Visual field (VF) testing dates back to fifth century B.C. It plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis, management, and prognosis of retinal and neurological diseases. This review summarizes each of the different VF tests and perimetric methods, including the advantages and disadvantages and adherence to the desired standard diagnostic criteria. The review targets beginners and eye care professionals and includes history and evolution, qualitative and quantitative tests, and subjective and objective perimetric methods. VF testing methods have evolved in terms of technique, precision, user-friendliness, and accuracy. Consequently, some earlier perimetric techniques, often still effective, are not used or have been forgotten. Newer technologies may not always be advantageous because of higher costs, and they may not achieve the desired sensitivity and specificity. VF testing is most often used in glaucoma and neurological diseases, but new objective methods that also measure response latencies are emerging for the management of retinal diseases. Given the varied perimetric methods available, clinicians are advised to select appropriate methods to suit their needs and target disease and to decide on applying simple vs. complex tests or between using subjective and objective methods. Newer, rapid, non-contact, objective methods may provide improved patient satisfaction and allow for the testing of children and the infirm.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Virtual reality field testing may provide an alternative to standard automated perimetry. This study evaluates a virtual reality game-based automated perimetry in a healthy pediatric population.METHODS: A prospective series of pediatric patients at one institution who performed VisuALL perimetry (Olleyes Inc, Summit, NJ) using a game-based algorithm. Participants were examined by an experienced pediatric optometrist or ophthalmologist, who confirmed that there was no evidence of ocular disease expected to affect visual fields. Testing was performed binocularly, with the child wearing their spectacle correction in place. Age, refractive error, test duration, false positives, and stereoacuity were evaluated for associations with performance on VisuALL, as defined by mean deviation (MD) and pattern standard deviation (PSD).RESULTS: A total of 191 eyes of 97 patients (54% female) were included, with a mean age of 11.9 ± 3.1 years. The average MD was -1.82 ± 3.5 dB, with a mean foveal sensitivity of 32.0 ± 4.7 dB. Fifty-nine eyes (30.9%) had MD < -2 dB. Better performance, as assessed by MD and PSD, was associated with shorter test duration (P < 0.001) and older age (P < 0.001). False positives (P = 0.442), wearing spectacles (P = 0.092), Titmus stereoacuity (P = 0.197), and refractive error (P = 0.120) did not appear to be associated with improved performance, adjusting for age as a covariate.CONCLUSIONS: VisuALL virtual reality field testing was well tolerated in this pediatric study cohort. Older age and shorter test duration were associated with better performance on field testing.

Abstract:Purpose To investigate the robustness and variability of a novel kinetic visual field (VF) screening method termed rapid campimetry (RC). Methods In RC visual field (VF) screening is enabled via kinetic-based testing on any computer (10°/4.7 s at 40-cm viewing distance) and high contrast in a dark room (1 cd/cm 2 ). In experiment (1): 30 participants [20 healthy participants (HC), 5 glaucoma patients (GLA) and 5 patients with cataract (CAT)] were included to test the intra-session variability (fatigue effect) and the following effects on RC: room illumination (140 cd/m 2 ), ±3 D refractive errors, media opacity. In experiment (2): Inter-session variability (1–3 weeks apart) was assessed in 10 HC and 10 GLA. Since RC detects absolute scotomas, the outcome measure was the size of physiological (blindspot) and pathological (glaucoma) scotomas in degrees. A repeated measures ANOVA was employed in experiment 1 and intraclass correlation (ICC) in experiment 2. Results Neither the size of the blindspot nor the VF defects differed significantly between the different testing conditions. For intra-session variability, the average bias of blindspot size was −0.6 ± 2.5°, limits of agreement (LOA), in comparison to 0.3 ± 1.5° for VF defects, both with ICC of 0.86 and 0.93, respectively. For the inter-session repeatability, the average bias and LOA for blindspot size was 0.2 ± 3.85° in comparison 1.6 ± 3.1° for VF defects, both with ICC of 0.87 and 0.91, respectively. Conclusion RC was robust to suboptimal testing VF conditions and showed good-to-excellent reliability between VF testing visits holding high potential for teleophthalmology.

Abstract:Eye movements measured by high precision eye-tracking technology represent a sensitive, objective, and non-invasive method to probe functional neural pathways. Oculomotor tests (e.g., saccades and smooth pursuit), tests that involve cognitive processing (e.g., antisaccade and predictive saccade), and reaction time tests have increasingly been showing utility in the diagnosis and monitoring of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in research settings. Currently, the adoption of these tests into clinical practice is hampered by a lack of a normative data set. The goal of this study was to construct a normative database to be used as a reference for comparing patients’ results. Oculomotor, cognitive, and reaction time tests were administered to male and female volunteers, aged 18–45, who were free of any neurological, vestibular disorders, or other head injuries. Tests were delivered using either a rotatory chair equipped with video-oculography goggles (VOG) or a portable virtual reality-like VOG goggle device with incorporated infrared eye-tracking technology. Statistical analysis revealed no effects of age on test metrics when participant data were divided into pediatric (i.e.,18–21 years, following FDA criteria) and adult (i.e., 21–45 years) groups. Gender (self-reported) had an effect on auditory reaction time, with males being faster than females. Pooled data were used to construct a normative database using 95% reference intervals (RI) with 90% confidence intervals on the upper and lower limits of the RI. The availability of these RIs readily allows clinicians to identify specific metrics that are deficient, therefore aiding in rapid triage, informing and monitoring treatment and/or rehabilitation protocols, and aiding in the return to duty/activity decision. This database is FDA cleared for use in clinical practice (K192186).

Abstract:Purpose: We sought to validate the feasibility of Perimouse, an internet-based remote perimeter that allows for natural fixation and can be performed on most computers via a web page.Methods: In this cross-sectional study, Perimouse evaluated the visual field of 45 healthy people and 27 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma on a laptop. Participants used a mouse cursor to locate new dots on the screen that were determined by preset saccade vectors. A "click and confirm" strategy was used to eliminate the unwanted visual search. Dot brightness was either fixed at 12 dB in the suprathreshold program (screening program) or variable in the threshold program. We compared Perimouse outcomes with the Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) 24-2 Swedish Interactive Testing Algorithm standard program.Results: In the screening program, Perimouse showed moderate to high concordance with HFA. The intraclass coefficient ranged from 0.58 to 0.86 in different areas of Garway-Heath mapping. In the threshold program, normal subjects had threshold ranging from 19 to 16 dB, presenting sensitivity changes according to the "hill of vision". The test-retest difference was 0.09 dB. Habitual spectacle correction and environmental luminance (2-337 lux) had little impact on the central or peripheral threshold (P > 0.05). The correlation between Perimouse and HFA threshold sensitivity was strong (R = 0.950), although Perimouse mean defect was 4.40 dB higher than the HFA mean defect.Conclusions: Perimouse is a reliable visual field test that correlates strongly with HFA. It shows potential for population screening and monitoring visual field defects.Translational Relevance: Perimouse assesses the visual field using saccade vectors without eye trackers, enhancing its accessibility via a web page.

Abstract:Purpose Portable three-dimensional imaging systems are becoming increasingly common for facial measurement analysis. However, the reliability of portable devices may be affected by the necessity to take three pictures at three time points. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of portable devices for assessing the periocular region. Methods In 60 Caucasian volunteers (120 eyes), four facial scans (twice for each instrument) using the portable VECTRA H2 and static VECTRA M3 devices were performed; patients' heads were kept straight, looking ahead, with a neutral facial expression. One assessor set 52 periocular landmarks in the periocular area of each image and subsequently assessed intra- and inter-device reliability by comparing two within-device measurements and one between-device measurement, respectively. Results The mean absolute difference (MAD) (0.13 and 0.12 units), relative error of measurement (REM) (0.61 and 0.68%), technical error of measurement (TEM)(1.02 and 0.80 units), relative TEM (rTEM) (5.51 and 4.43%), and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) (0.89, 0.89) showed good intra-device reliability for M3 and H2; MAD (0.63, 0.62 units), REM (2.83, 2.69%), TEM (1.31, 1.10 units), rTEM (7.62, 5.57%), and ICC (0.79, 0.83) indicated that inter-device reliability deteriorated compared to intra-device reliability and that the inter-device reliability of the first scan (moderate) was lower than that of the average of the two scans (good). Conclusions The portable VECTRA H2 device proved reliable in assessing most periocular linear distances, curve distances, and angles; some improvement in inter-device reliability can be achieved by using the average of two scans.

Abstract:Visualizing and characterizing microvascular abnormalities with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has deepened our understanding of ocular diseases, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. Two types of microvascular defects can be detected by OCTA: focal decrease because of localized absence and collapse of retinal capillaries, which is referred to as the non-perfusion area in OCTA, and diffuse perfusion decrease usually detected by comparing with healthy case-control groups. Wider OCTA allows for insights into peripheral retinal vascularity, but the heterogeneous perfusion distribution from the macula, parapapillary area to periphery hurdles the quantitative assessment. A normative database for OCTA could estimate how much individual's data deviate from the normal range, and where the deviations locate. Here, we acquired OCTA images using a swept-source OCT system and a 12×12 mm protocol in healthy subjects. We automatically segmented the large blood vessels with U-Net, corrected for anatomical factors such as the relative position of fovea and disc, and segmented the capillaries by a moving window scheme. A total of 195 eyes were included and divided into 4 age groups: < 30 (n=24) years old, 30-49 (n=28) years old, 50-69 (n=109) years old and >69 (n=34) years old. This provides an age-dependent normative database for characterizing retinal perfusion abnormalities in 12×12 mm OCTA images. The usefulness of the normative database was tested on two pathological groups: one with diabetic retinopathy; the other with glaucoma.

Hepatoprotective potential of isoquercitrin against type 2 diabetes-induced hepatic injury in rats

Abstract:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a main complication of type 2 diabetes. Isoquercitrin are employed for antidiabetic therapies, but the effects on liver function and the hepatocytes are unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of isoquercitrin on the T2DM-induced hepatic injury in rats. Isoquercitrin (10 mg/kg/d, 30 mg/kg/d), sitagliptin phosphate (10 mg/kg/d) was given orally for 21 days. The administration of isoquercitrin at 10 mg/kg/d and 30 mg/kg/d showed a dose dependent. Compare to the negative control (treated with saline), rats medicated with isoquercitrin (30 mg/kg/d) and sitagliptin phosphate (10 mg/kg/d) improved the clinical symptoms, FBG and glucose tolerance, reduced serum ALT, AST and IR, but increased TP, Alb, SOD, GSH, MDA, HDL-C, INS and GLP-1. On histology, Rats of these to groups presented nearly normal liver tissue and Langerhans, degeneration, necrosis and apoptosis were markedly reduced. Instead, hepatocytes showed regenerate. These two groups also showed significant increase in mRNA expression of PKA, AKT, PKCa, InsR and PI3K, and a decrease in DPP-IV mRNA level. These results indicated that treatment with isoquercitrin protects against hepatic injury by T2DM.
Hypoxia-inducible Factor 1α Is Regulated by the Mammalian Target of Rapamycin (mTOR) via an mTOR Signaling Motif*

Abstract:Tumors that form as a result of heightened mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling are highly vascularized. This process of angiogenesis is regulated through hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-mediated transcription of angiogenic factors. It is recognized that inhibition of mTOR with rapamycin can diminish the process of angiogenesis. Our work shows that activation of mTOR by Ras homologue enriched in brain (Rheb) overexpression potently enhances the activity of HIF1α and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A secretion during hypoxia, which is reversed with rapamycin. Mutants of Rheb, which do not bind guanine nucleotide (D60K, D60V, N119I, and D122N) and are unable to activate mTOR, inhibit the activity of HIF when overexpressed. We show that regulatory associated protein of mTOR (Raptor) interacts with HIF1α and requires an mTOR signaling (TOS) motif located in the N terminus of HIF1α. Furthermore, a mutant of HIF1α lacking this TOS motif dominantly impaired HIF activity during hypoxia and was unable to bind to the co-activator CBP/p300. Rapamycin treatments do not affect the stability of HIF1α and modulate HIF activity via a Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL)-independent mechanism. We demonstrate that the high levels of HIF activity in cells devoid of TSC2 can be reversed by treatments with rapamycin or the readdition of TSC2. Our work explains why human cancers with aberrant mTOR signaling are prone to angiogenesis and suggests that inhibition of mTOR with rapamycin might be a suitable therapeutic strategy.

Abstract:Objective: Standard automated perimetry (SAP) visual field (VF) results are more repeatable using Goldmann stimulus size V (stimV) in eyes with moderate/severe deficits due to glaucoma. There are few reports relating VFs using stimulus size V and III, typically used in the clinic for glaucoma, and none for non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). We hypothesized that we could compare and relate the VFs with both stimuli for glaucoma and NAION. Methods: We utilized 1992 same-day pairs of stimIII and stimV SAP VFs using the 24-2 strategy for eyes with glaucoma or NAION. We explored the optimal threshold to censor the raw sensitivities, prior to calculating age-standardized total deviations (TD). We determined the mean and standard deviation of the differences among all TD pairs. We computed a line of best fit to determine closeness to the line of unity. Results: The ideal censoring conversion threshold was 21 dB for stimIII and 24 dB for stimV. The difference between stimV and stimIII censored (0.0 +/- 1.9 dB) and uncensored (0.4 +/- 2.6 dB) TD pairings strongly correlate with each other (r2 = 0.70, p < 0.001). The line of best fit from these pairings has a slope of 0.92, which is similar to that of the line of unity (m = 1). Conclusion: Censoring plus age correction is a valid method of comparison between stimIII and stimV SAP VFs with moderate to severe VF loss due to optic nerve disorders. Translational Relevance: StimIII and stimV TDs are interchangeable in clinical practice.

OCT-based Visual Field Estimation Using Segmentation-free 3D CNN Shows Lower Variability than Subjective Standard Automated Perimetry

Abstract:Purpose: To train and evaluate a segmentation-free 3D convolutional neural network (3DCNN) model for estimating visual field (VF) from optical coherence tomography (OCT) images and to compare the residual variability of OCT-based estimated VF (OCT-VF) with that of Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) measurements in a diverse clinical population. Design: Retrospective cross-sectional study. Participants: 5,351 patients (9,564 eyes) who underwent macular OCT imaging and Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) tests (24-2 or 10-2 test patterns) at a university hospital from 2006 to 2023. The dataset included 47,653 paired OCT-VF data points, including various ocular conditions. Methods: We trained a segmentation-free 3DCNN model based on the EfficientNet3D-b0 architecture on a comprehensive OCT dataset to estimate VF. We evaluated the model's performance using Pearson's correlation coefficient and Bland‒Altman analysis. We assessed residual variability using a jackknife resampling approach and compared OCT-VF and HFA datasets using generalized estimating equations (GEE), adjusting the number of VF tests, follow-up duration, age, and clustering by eye and patient. Main Outcome Measures: Correlations between estimated and measured VF thresholds and mean deviations (MDs), and residual variability of OCT-VF and HFA. Results: We observed strong correlations between the estimated and measured VF parameters (Pearson's r: 24-2 thresholds 0.893, MD 0.932; 10-2 thresholds 0.902, MD 0.945; all p < 0.001). Bland‒Altman analysis showed good agreement between the estimated and measured MD, with a slight proportional bias. GEE analysis demonstrated significantly lower residual variability for OCT-VF than for HFA (24-2 thresholds: 1.10 vs. 2.48 dB; 10-2 thresholds: 1.20 vs. 2.48 dB; all p < 0.001, Bonferroni-corrected), with lower variability across all test points, severities, and ages, thus highlighting the robustness of the segmentation-free 3DCNN approach in a heterogeneous clinical sample. Conclusions: A segmentation-free 3DCNN model objectively estimated VF from OCT images with high accuracy and significantly lower residual variability than subjective HFA measurements in a heterogeneous clinical sample, including patients with glaucoma and individuals with other ocular diseases. The improved reliability, lower variability, and objective nature of OCT-VF highlight its value for enhancing VF assessment and monitoring of various ocular conditions, potentially facilitating earlier detection of progression and more efficient disease management.
